Pros:
The breakfast was very good, tasty and very filling which set us up for the rest of the day. The location was superb and within easy reach to all Southend's amenities and finding lifts down to the promenade was an added bonus. The discounted parking charge is excellent value and was easily set up by the guesthouse owner with no hassle.
Cons:
The only downside was having the bed right next to the wall so only one side had access to a bedside table and direct access to the bathroom, without having to climb over the other person should you need to get up in the night. An additional shelf in the bathroom would be useful too. Having said that we were aware when we booked it was a small double room so for a short 2-day break this did not spoil our stay at this lovely guesthouse.

Pros:
Thick bacon rashes, tasty granary bread and many other quality breakfast products all from locally sourced suppliers. Perfectly located close to the cliff railway, the beach, pier and esplanade. Parking charges only £2.50 per day with the hotels concessionary rate instead of £14.20. All the staff extremely pleasant and helpful.

Pros:
Staff were lovely, free WiFi, tea and coffee facilities.
Cons:
Room was a bit dated however it had all the necessities. A few stray hairs found in bathroom and bed, nothing major... could do with cleaning/dusting under beds. The pictures in internet are a bit misleading as they are a birds eye view and appears you could walk over the road onto the beach. In reality over the road is a cement break/ wall.

Pros:
The leisure facilities (in our case the swimming pools indoor and outdoor) were excellent, as were the staff in charge of them. Also for the evening meal we ate in the less formal Bar area, the food was excellent as was the service.
Cons:
Lead to believe by reviews that breakfast was prepared on an individual basis, this was not the case as we were confronted by a buffet style arrangement, unfortunately the food presented this way on both mornings was somewhat "less hot" than we expected. This was brought to the attention of staff who checked (by hand) that all was well! Asking about this matter at reception I was informed that freshly cooked (individual) breakfast was only available when guest numbers at the hotel did not exceed a certain number, if they did the chef would be unable to cope and breakfasts were then served on the buffet style service which we experienced, a little disappointing I'm afraid. Maybe this is just a personal Quirk of mine, but I like to take breakfast in peace and quiet not with local commercial radio + adverts ringing in my ears!!!Very nice hotel

Almost booked a nearby place at half the price, but was swung by the prospect of an 'Executive Room'. The Waverley has some really lovely rooms... but not all of them it seems, & unfortunately the room we got was a disappointing one - duvet had cigarette burn; carpet was most stained I've ever seen; room was cramped; had to stand on the bed to operate tv from the top (no remote). It's a shame as some rooms looked great, but that just makes it even more disappointing when you pay the same money for one of the poorer ones. We asked if there was another room - but they were all reserved, which shows that people in the know, do return. For a lovely stay ask for one of the more recently refurbished rooms, otherwise you might be disappointed

Heating didnt work. toilet was heavily stained and smelt, holes in the sheets blinds didnt close at the bottom, had to stand on sofa to draw the curtain. fire alarm sounds 'fire in zone 1. there wasnt any members of staff on site so I dealt with it, muting the alarm and calling a number. My guess is a smoker but if it hadnt been we could have been in trouble

Pros:
A large room with good sea views and all the usual facilities. The bed was a super king size, or something similar, and was extremely comfortable. Good parking opposite although a little on the expensive side. The hotel will validate the parking ticket to provide a £5 reduction.
Cons:
Two of the lights in the bedroom weren't working and the aircon was a bit on the noisy side. A tray of leftovers was in the corridor outside our room throughout our stay. A good breakfast but rather lukewarm.

Pros:
We loved the location.
Cons:
We didn’t like the cleanliness. There were huge stains on the carpet in our room and in the hallways, stains on the shower tray and the wall tiles. The bed sheets were torn and not changed for the 2 days we stayed there. The door to the bathroom would not shut and it also creaked, consequently disturbing us when used during the night. The windows were not clean. We expected better for the price!

Cons:

Cons:
Rude night staff, sea view room right next to the fun fair so no peace in the day, king size bed was just two singles pushed together and the sofa bed was out when we got in the room.

Pros:
I was really keen to stay here as it was close to my family and I knew the area.
Cons:
I was disappointed that the door card keys were not consistent and had problems with the electrics working due to both cards having problems the shower water was stone cold at 10pm and the shower itself was dirty. I was so tired I climbed into bed to sleep as I was fed up trying to get lights to work. I woke up to find I had slept in a bed with black bobbles and black dye on the sheets not from My white might wear. It also had blood spots on the sheets which again was not mine. The breakfast was mediocre. I complained and to be fair to lovely receptionist she was very apologetic offered to get the manager. She was lovely and I felt bad she had to hear my complaints. Unfortunately after waiting for the manager to appear the receptionist informed me the Manager said I could have a 20% refund and they reimbursed the breakfast fee. I felt bad for this young lady as the manager didn’t have the audacity to actually to come and talk to me. It’s such a shame as I have never felt the need to give a bad review about a hotel before so I would say please think first about the good deal you seem to get with this hotel. I was so keen to stay here and when I was told last night we had been upgraded to a sea view I was overjoyed. In reality it Was a side room with a view of Staff car park a night club and a bit of sea but a better view than one of the shopping centre. I’m sad that a hotel I have known and wanted to stay on for years turned out to be a massive disappointment.

Pros:
The staff seemed nice
Cons:
Although it is not far from the airport, it is not possible to walk to the airport. I travelled on the train and had to get a taxi from the train and then in the morning back to the airport (c. £7.50 each way) . Consider this when compared to the other airport hotels.
- The two big problems with the hotel were-
1. The carpet in my room was physically soaked by the door to the bathroom. I did not realise to just before I was going to sleep as I had my shoes on before. I left very early in the morning and there was nobody at reception to tell them in the morning. I had read a number of reviews saying that the place smelled like there had been a flood. It would seem to me that the issue is more fundamental, whether it's a plumbing or a ground water issue, there are some serious issues.
2. More annoying probably, the WiFi didn't work. I needed to do some work and had to tether to my phone to get any internet.

Pros:
- Location close by to where I needed to visit. - Good parking facility - staff were great and very accommodating - excellent breakfast
Cons:
WiFi - I was allocated a room in the Anex building. Property was advertised with free WiFi but there was no internet connectivity there. Called up reception and they advised me you only get WiFi in the main building. I really needed WiFi so in the end I had to tether my phone with my laptop and use my phone data. Heating - Also the air con continuously blowed cold air when I wanted the heating on. Had to contact reception 3 times to get it sorted. Bathroom - countertop edges rotting away and was sellotaped down along the side. Towels looked really old so was not sure if they were just re-folded / washed. Overall - the room was a little out dated. Need a bit of TLC. Staff were great and excellent breakfast.

Pros:
We stayed at the hotel because our flight landed late at night and we didn't fancy a two-hour drive, so we decided to book a cheap hotel close by, and this is only a five-minute drive away. The staff at the hotel were friendly.
Cons:
The hotel is horrible, possibly the worst I've stayed in. The hotel is extremely dated, maintenance doesn't appear to have been a priority for some time. The mattress was awful, I wouldn't be surprised if it's never been replaced, it's like something out of a doss house. The room was covered in dust, the bathroom was in desperate need of a deep-clean (the shower head was particularly disgusting) and the walls are paper in so we could hear every word of the TV and conversation from next door. In retrospect, we wish we had a couple of strong coffees and driven home. Avoid this place.

Pros:
The rooms are a really good size and the building is nice with a decent size bar, breakfast was nice and worth having with a quick service. I was very sceptical about staying here after reading the reviews but honestly it's a 2 star hotel, don't expect the hilton and you won't be disappointed.
Cons:
The smells in the corridors, absolutely dreadful. The carpets are old but it's a cheap hotel so acceptable, the pictures in room 41!! What on earth are they!!

Pros:
We seemed to have the room right over the bar where the live band where playing until midnight and the music finished at 1AM. Didn’t really concern us, but might have others. The accommodation was better than expected with a good breakfast for the price we paid. Would go back again.
Cons:
I didn’t like the bed, but my wife slept like a log, she said it was comfortable. The light in the bathroom could have been brighter & TV could have been bigger.

Pros:
Nice clean room at back of hotel ideally located near shopping and Frankie and bennys next door.
Cons:
Breakfast was terrible. Went down at 8.30- no croissants or pastries, bread was just thin bought bread dried up. Fruit salad was nearly empty and didn’t look very good. Only spread no butter. No one to ask as receptionist busy doing other things. I paid £5.95 for a coffee and a slice of dry toadt(don’t eat spreads). For an extra £2 I could have gone next door for a full cooked plus pastries. Dreadful
