Excellent 10,0
Pros: I couldnt find one fault with my stay. Lovely hosts.
Excellent 10,0

Excellent 10,0

Cons: Nothing!
Excellent 10,0

Cons: Nothing negative
Excellent 10,0
Pros: Really lovely and welcoming family, a very beautiful and comfortable house. I would highly recommend and would come back. Thank you x
Cons: N/A
Excellent 8,0
Pros: I like the coffee & kettle in room, soft bedding, i also liked that its opposite a beach. & free parking on front.
Cons: No breakfast cause of Covid 19. But could of had something left in room that reflects the price. Felt like it was pricy for a back room with no view. Front room with beach view would of been worth paying the full £50 in mid June. feel it was £15 over priced as also no breakfast included. The late check in also isn’t great! - I would of liked to of checked in from 12 rather than from 4pm
Good 7,0
Pros: The room was quite spacious for a B&B. It smelt nice and was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was a good size too. The location was brilliant as it was directly opposite the beach and within a 5-minute walking distance from two beautiful parks and shops/cafes.
Cons: I didn't like the fact that they didn't have a mini-fridge in the room or that when I asked for fresh towels, they were left on the floor outside my room because I was out at the time. They should have been left on the bannister or given to me once I was back. I also would have liked them to be more attentive by asking if I needed fresh teacups, teabags etc.
Good 7,2
Pros: Warm & efficient welcome Very comfortable room Good breakfast Convenient location
Cons: No guest's lounge

Excellent 8,0
Pros: It is a very well run hotel with friendly helpfull staff and when I did have a slight problem in the early hours it was resolved without any fuss. keep up the good work.
Good 6,0
Pros: Lovely hotel and great food
Cons: My room was a shoebox, but I guess you get what you pay for. Also, I was told at reception that breakfast was not served until 8.30 on weekends. I needed to leave for my work by 8.30. I discovered that breakfast started at 8.00 when I went a few minute early to see if I could grab something. I trust this will be corrected as I passed the info onto the hotel.
Good 6,0
Pros: Great location, right on the seafront, lovely views from the restaurant area out across the bay. Comfortable, modern, clean, friendly, good parking facilities. Breakfast was first class.
Cons: Bathroom was very cold even with the towel radiator on. I stayed in one of the junior suites on the top floor, with no central heating. Heating was via the air conditioning unit, central heating would have been much preferable.
Good 7,0
Pros: pleasent and friendly staff good food
Good 7,7
Pros: The staff was very welcoming. The hotel is very clean and the food was excellent.Very pleased with everything.
Good 7,6
Pros: Staff very friendly and helpful. Excellent food and very good choice. General cleanliness throughout.
Cons: Our only complaint was that whereas we were booked in for 5 nights,Monday to Saturday - we were very disturbed to have our bill pushed under the door early on Friday morning which informed us that we were expected to check out that day. The young lady on the Reception Desk was extremely helpful and did get it sorted out, but we feel that it was something that should not have occurred.
Okay 5,2
Pros: Lovely atmosphere in restaurant & terrace
Cons: Room very hot. No hot water for shower/wash. Light over mirror in bathroom flashing on & off all night.
Good 6,8
Pros: The position is excellent. It was a short walk from Thorpe Bay station. Every one was very friendly. The sun shone!

Excellent 8,0
Pros: The bed was very comfortable and it as peacefully quite
Cons: There wasn’t anything I didn’t like
Excellent 9,0
Pros: The room was lovely: beautifully decorated and with a very comfy bed, tea and coffee making facilities and toiletries in the bathroom. The location was perfect, in a quiet area but close to the town centre. Wonderful breakfast and a very nice breakfast room. The very best thing about our stay were the hosts, Penny and Gary, who were warm, welcoming and extremely helpful. They manage just the right pitch of being friendly but non-intrusive and made our stay both enjoyable and completely stress free.
Cons: The shower could be updated a little but really that's just being fussy.
Excellent 10,0
Pros: Nice staff, good breakfast, clean room and bathroom. Would stay again. Good location. Felt comfortable staying on my own.
Excellent 10,0

Excellent 10,0
Pros: This is our second stay at the Gleneagles and to be honest it was so good first time around we booked for this visit and have booked again for August......The location is great for the town nice view of the sea. The owners and staff are very friendly and accomadating the rooms are lovely and the breakfast is fantastic.....can't say anymore looking forward to August. Thank you.
Mediocre 3,3
Pros: Nothing
Cons: The central heating didn't work. I was welcomed by a confused say 15 year old boy. there was a birthday party of the 13 year old daughter in the residents lounge. I didn;t get the seaview room I boooked. they didn;t eeven have my on line booking. In fact there was not on redeeming facot.
Mediocre 3,7
Cons: I did not like the size of the room it was far to small is my knees were touching the shower when sat on the loo. The drains needed sorted as this caused my room to smell and it was far to cold.
Good 7,0
Pros: friendly staff. was made welcome.
Cons: nothing
Excellent 8,0
Pros: The historic significance and the hotel's representation of all that is good and traditional about English "superior guest-house" hospitality.
Cons: I seriously cannot think of any.

Pros: The room was comfy, spacious and lovely decor, view of sea was lovely to wake up to
Cons: Nothing at all
Good 6,4
Pros: slept as i was working localy

Okay 5,2
Pros: The room was a sea view room and very large, bedroom and bathroom very clean, very very close to southend pier and amusements and to the town centre itself
Cons: bed was hard but that is a personal prefernce and not one that should be held accountable towards the hotel, the noise from the floorboards from the room above was rather loud both in the night and in the morning so not one for the light sleeper

Excellent 10,0
Pros: We travelled from the North East to attend my mum's funeral the following day. We were so grateful to the hotel for being able to accommodate us in the current situation, Jamie was polite, maintained social distancing and had good protocols in place to protect us and himself. Hotel room was excellent, very clean, comfortable, well maintained and excellent value for money. Highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay again.
Excellent 10,0
Pros: Really friendly staff great location 10meters from the sea. Their restaurant is amazing
Cons: Nothing
Excellent 8,0
Pros: Great location, Lovely room.!
Cons: Only gripe that i have was that the shower was a bit of a nightmare, but that’s all, i love the hotel & it’s location.
Good 6,0
Pros: The view
Cons: The restaurant
Excellent 9,0
Pros: Very polite and helpful staff. Clean and fresh room
Excellent 10,0
Pros: Very clean and tidy
Cons: Parking out the back massive pot hole luckily no damage to my alloys
Excellent 10,0
Pros: Fantastic staff, was given an upgrade due to a late function booking and they didn’t want us to be disturbed. This was awesome as it was our 12th wedding anniversary treat. Suite was impeccably clean and a lovely view of the beach. Would definitely stay again
Cons: There wasn’t anything we didn’t like about our stay.
Good 6,3
Pros: The view from the suite window.
Cons: Cook, turned up for breakfast after we did when we were there waiting at 8am. The waitress was also distraught waiting for him to turn up as she could not get into the hotel. We wanted an early start for a 6 hour drive to Cornwall but had to wait for breakfast as we had already decided to have breakfast before we left, but had to wait for a young cook (not chef) to turn up for work because he was probably pissed from the night before and didn't care about any of the guests. Not very professional and I would certainly dismiss him on this occasion. Gives young people who really want to work a bad name. He doesn't deserve a job.
Good 6,7
Pros: Hotel is maintained to a high standard, staff very friendly
Cons: rooms are small
Good 7,3
Pros: We had a most comfortable stay and enjoyed dinner on the night we arrived. The staff were excellent and helpful. We had trouble finding the hotel mainly because of the road works in town and it was dark when we arrived but it would have hleped had the hotel's name been more prominently displayed. Parking was not a problem.
Cons: There was nothing we did not like. As stated, we had a very comfortable stay.
Okay 5,6
Pros: Peace and quite
Good 6,0
Pros: The staff were pleasant and the breakfast good. The room was good too and the bed comfortable.
Cons: We were located opposite the hotel in the annexe across a small alley leading to the car park, which we didn't know about beforehand. Very open, but on a rainy windy night, not pleasant getting to the other side. No faults otherwise except for lack of hairdrier in room maybe?
Good 7,7
Pros: The room was fantastic, it was a suite. the views were beautiful in the daylight and at night. The food was really good, and reasonably priced as was the bar. I liked the separate apartments block with their own entrance. The breakfast was very good and fresh.
Okay 4,8
Pros: The room was smart and clean. The bathroom was particulary new and fresh.
Cons: No TV remote control in the room. Feint smell of cigarette smoke. Breakfast ok but serve yourself.
Good 7,6
Pros: Very nice hotel. 1 mile from the pier so encouraged walking. Large carpark at the back which was great.

Excellent 10,0
Pros: The service and also the food was amazing, many thanks for the stuff that helped me through
Cons: There is nothing to say bad about it
Okay 4,7
Pros: Staff helpful and welcoming
Cons: Parking arrangements a disappointment, low shower pressure, slightly shabby decor, noise of heating system from early hours. This would be ok as a 2 star but is a poor 4 star and I cant see how this is comparable to other 3 star hotels in the area.
Excellent 8,0
Pros: The nice proprietors
Good 6,7
Pros: The hotel is in a quiet location, close to the beach with parking, staff were polite and the room was clean and comfortable
Cons: I expected a greater variety of food but what was available was good
Good 6,3
Pros: The friendly and helpful staff
Good 7,3
Pros: Awesome, fantastic, welcoming staff. This extended through from reception to managers who were hard working and extremely helpful. I may well need to stay in Southend again, and would return to this hotel without hesitation. My wife booked this hotel based on feedback from previous guests, and I was not disappointed.
Cons: It's probably a bit pricey - but in view of the value, I would be prepared to ignore that in the future. You always get what you pay for, and this place is seriously good.
Good 6,4
Pros: The breakfast was really good (a lot of choise), and staff was nice and friendly and the location is very good.
Cons: was noisy. In front of the hotel were few tables and chairs. Other guests were noisy, and we couldnt sleep.

Excellent 9,0
Pros: Despite the current situation, and the closure of the restaurant, we had a lovely stay. The room service dinner was excellent. Staff were very welcoming and the kids really enjoyed it.
Cons: Coronavirus
Excellent 10,0
Pros: The scenery was beautiful!!

Excellent 8,0
Pros: Excellent quiet room, comfortable bed, friendly helpful staff, food was good. Facilities exceeded expectations overall, including parking.
Cons: There was nothing to dislike.
Good 7,1
Pros: Staff lovely, food great, bar open late, close by wedding venue we attended
Cons: Most people’s rooms were boiling hot and no way to make cooler, quite expensive overall, spa facilities a little tired and dated
Excellent 10,0
Pros: Fantastic - very friendly and helpful staff. Called before arrival to give an update about a function that was going on in the hotel til midnight and to welcome us for our stay. Great food and service. Highly recommend!
Okay 4,7
Pros: The function attended on Sat 27th November was well organised
Cons: Our room was too cold and reception staff/mangement were not very helpful or understanding of the situation. It was a very cold period and no account of this was taken into account - almost an attitude that nothing could be done!!
Good 7,3
Pros: The hotel overall was really good and I thought the housekeeping team did a wonderful job. The room was a good size, as was the bathroom. I particularly loved the open fires in the lounge areas.
Cons: ~There was not really enough wardrobe space.
Good 7,6
Pros: Room, easy wi-fi, good food, good location
Good 6,0
Pros: comfortable bed, good location
Cons: poor quality TV
Okay 5,0
Pros: I am always extremely fair when writing reviews as I realise these can strongly affect a business. I have to say that the approach to the Hotel and the building itself is lovely and the room was very clean. The grounds are well kept and on first impression we were delighted with the Hotel.
Cons: There were 7 of us (4 rooms) staying at the Hotel as we were attending a function in the evening locally. We arranged to meet up in the afternoon in the bar for a snack although we were only allowed to sit in a small unnatractive private lounge with no character, more like a waiting room, as there was a Wedding Reception about to arrive. We came back down to the bar before we went out for the evening although again were not allowed in the bar. We had a loveley evening and returned to the Hotel about 11.45pm, there were no other guests to be seen. We had to find the 1 member of staff on duty to get a drink and sit in a corridor. Breakfast was awful and staff did not seem particularly interested in us at all.
Okay 5,6
Pros: Clean, comfortable, staff helpful.
Cons: Intermittent loud noise (? fridge; aircon? )about hourly which woke us up.
Good 7,6
Pros: Perfect place, facilities are fantastic, staff is helpful, and allow you to use the swimming pool even out of the planned hours, good experience
Cons: Gym was a bit small and always full, however, fantastic place for jogging around the hotel!
Okay 5,6
Pros: Nice setting, quite
Cons: Restaurant quite formal, fussy menu
Good 7,2
Pros: Comfort and quality was very good
Cons: $review.cons
Excellent 8,0
Pros: The use of a private room for the 70th birthday dinner we attended. Excellent facilities at the indoor pool, and the offer from reception staff to open at 7 am. Pleasant friendly atmosphere from staff. We had an executive room with sitting room at £135 - good value, bu would have been content with a bedroom only at a lesser cost had we been able to book earlier - our problem. Hope to return Oct.
Cons: It would have been nicer at breakfast to have had pineapple juice as one of the juices, also more choice of fresh/tinned fruit, individual bowls rather than one mixed bowl. Nevertheless I enjoyed my Continental breakfast

Cons: in places the room and decor was a bit tired, wall paper starting to come off wall, door handle to balcony fell off for example, get the little things sorted and spot on, and then you have an outstanding place. in a nutshell its just the little things that are letting you down a bit
Excellent 10,0
Pros: Host were lovely and very welcoming, room impeccableand had an absolutely lovely stay.
Cons: Nothing.
Poor 1,0
Pros: When we eventually settled in, we were vaguely comfortable in the room. The shower was good. The lights worked. The bed was quite comfy.
Cons: We arrived to a bad start. I telephoned the establishment two days before our arrival to book an extra night (the Friday night). I was told that the booking was all okay. We went to check in and were told that no booking existed, by an owner managing all bookings on her iPhone. She scrambled around for a spare room. She offered us a room telling us there was a sea view and that it was worth £120 per night, but it was good because she got us a good deal of £100 for the night. I refused to pay this as we came prepared to pay £65 for the night, as told over the phone a few days prior. We were then shoved in an empty room by the front door, which was definitely not worth £65 per night. We looked online for the room that we were told was £120. There was no room at the Waverly that was £120, or even £100 for the night. We were lied to so more money could be taken. We were not happy about this and felt on edge about our accommodation for the rest of the evening. We also had moments where we came out of our room to a smell of fresh cigarette in the hallway. Despite the 'no smoking' signs on the walls. Moving on, the wifi did not work for our entire stay. I went and asked a member of staff and was told to use next doors. HOWEVER, the Waverly did not have permission to use Pebbles Guest House's Wifi. I found this out as I asked for the passcode. I was told that they do not know it, but try a number of different phrases. I was not comfortable with this. The staff member then came in to our room to show us how to get the wifi to work. The wifi never worked. Overall, we were not happy with our stay and would not recommend this hotel.
Good 6,0
Pros: The view, balcony, comfy bed clean and tidy room more than adequate for a weekend break.
Cons: The bathroom lacked a hand shower it was very difficult to rinse your hair in the bath the tap was a hidden filler tap which was all very nice but made rinsing your hair (in this day and age) with the plastic jug provided the jug had to be filled at the wash hand basin difficult if you are a solo traveler and no bathroom toiletries provided this needs to be advertised before hand.
Okay 5,7
Pros: Warm welcome, friendly atmosphere made me feel very at ease.
Good 6,0
Pros: The room was clean and well stocked with tea and coffee, the staff were friendly.
Good 6,3
Pros: Very friendly owner and freshly decorated.
Okay 5,7
Pros: Very friendly owners
Okay 5,7
Pros: Location. Breakfast. Owners.
Cons: Almost booked a nearby place at half the price, but was swung by the prospect of an 'Executive Room'. The Waverley has some really lovely rooms... but not all of them it seems, & unfortunately the room we got was a disappointing one - duvet had cigarette burn; carpet was most stained I've ever seen; room was cramped; had to stand on the bed to operate tv from the top (no remote). It's a shame as some rooms looked great, but that just makes it even more disappointing when you pay the same money for one of the poorer ones. We asked if there was another room - but they were all reserved, which shows that people in the know, do return. For a lovely stay ask for one of the more recently refurbished rooms, otherwise you might be disappointed
Okay 5,6
Pros: Lovely styled room, nice suprise. loved the sofa. loads of tea, sugar and milk always an asset
Cons: Heating didnt work. toilet was heavily stained and smelt, holes in the sheets blinds didnt close at the bottom, had to stand on sofa to draw the curtain. fire alarm sounds 'fire in zone 1. there wasnt any members of staff on site so I dealt with it, muting the alarm and calling a number. My guess is a smoker but if it hadnt been we could have been in trouble
Good 6,4
Pros: Good clean family run hotel. Pleasant staff, good facilities and close to attractions. a great bar/bistro with a seaside outlook was situated on the beach a few yards away.
Cons: None

Excellent 10,0
Pros: Rooms good size Beds Comfortable. Staff pleasant and helpful.Food very good ( and particularly for young children) near Adventure Island and the beachfront restaurants.
Good 7,0
Pros: Great location... reception lad was very helpful
Cons: Room was very dusty ... cleaners obviously didnt polish it ....
Good 7,0
Pros: The building from outside is exceptional as it is very old. The inside is ok but doesn’t reflect the beauty on the outside. The staff are lovely and helpful. The views of the pier and sea from my room are amazing. The room was comfortable and fairly clean.
Cons: The toilet doesn’t flush very well. Some of the attachments in the bathroom are loose e.g the shower head holder and toilet roll holder. But these things could be fixed easily. The carpets in the property need to be renewed and a lick of paint is needed in some areas, as well as repairs to doors and walls in corridors.
Excellent 8,0
Pros: Good location... great reception staff ... great location
Cons: Nothing ... all good
Excellent 9,0
Pros: Loved the location, the vibe, the value for money, the staff ( Shout out to James, in particular) the room with the view.... So sad to leave......
Cons: Rather overpriced bar prices
Good 6,0
Pros: The room was very spacious and the bed was comfortable and large. I asked for a quiet room and this request was met.
Cons: The hotel clearly needs refurbishment. The bathroom was run down. The toilet didn't flush properly, the shower needed re-sealing. The front door lock was broken. Unfortunately the biggest issue was the lack of cleanliness. The shower had scummy tiles that clearly hadn't been cleaned properly in some time. The toilet smelled like it wasn't properly clean and both chairs were very dirty, with questionable stains on the armchair and a desk chair that was sticky until I cleaned it. The bed sheets had what looked like a fresh coffee stain on them, not welcoming. I ordered room service and was sent a small bowl of icecream that wasn't the brand on the menu, with a dirty spoon and a £3 charge to bring it to my room, totalling £8.50 for a small bowl of low quality icecream. Not pleasing. Due to faulty security cards, I had to request a new room key 3 times and noted that because it wasn't working, the fire doors were being propped open to allow guests to enter their floors. Staff were always very friendly, and helpful, but the facilities are letting them down. The hotel isn't worth the money I paid in its current state.
Excellent 8,0
Pros: Room service excellent, concierge very helpful.
Cons: Think it was overpriced, especially the food in the restaurant... It was like paying London prices.
Excellent 9,4
Pros: Giving carpark discount for over night stay was helpfull. Good choice of breakfast buffet and very helpfull staff
Cons: The coldness of the room on arrival other that that the room was clean and comfortable with a seaview
Good 7,0
Pros: We like the location of the hotel, on both our stays we had sea view rooms and our next stay will also be in a sea view room to make the most of the location. We think that Southend had been improved by the redevelopment of the Hotel.
Cons: Our first stay was one night and the second two nights, our only complaint is the cost of parking and leaving our car in the car park opposite. The first stay cost us approximately £15.00 and the second £24.00. I completely understand that the car park is not the hotels juresdiction but the discount the hotel gets for its guests is a paltry one.
Good 7,3
Pros: Extremely clean room, lovely flat screen on well, very comfy bed. This hotel has a lovely residents bar and is right at the end of the high street. You could not get a better location.
Cons: Nothing we got to check in v. early, got our room slightly upgraded, staff were lovely, tea & coffee in our room - no negatives.

Cons: £20 premium for sea view is a bit high. No hotel car park
Okay 4,8
Pros: Central situation!
Cons: Your clerical provisions need improvment! The opening line of this enquiry has opened with 'Dear Ferris' Perhaps a prefix of 'Mr.' would have been wise!! Soft drinks were ridiculously expensive!

Pros: every thing wonderful
Mediocre 3,7
Pros: The staff seemed nice
Cons: Although it is not far from the airport, it is not possible to walk to the airport. I travelled on the train and had to get a taxi from the train and then in the morning back to the airport (c. £7.50 each way) . Consider this when compared to the other airport hotels. - The two big problems with the hotel were- 1. The carpet in my room was physically soaked by the door to the bathroom. I did not realise to just before I was going to sleep as I had my shoes on before. I left very early in the morning and there was nobody at reception to tell them in the morning. I had read a number of reviews saying that the place smelled like there had been a flood. It would seem to me that the issue is more fundamental, whether it's a plumbing or a ground water issue, there are some serious issues. 2. More annoying probably, the WiFi didn't work. I needed to do some work and had to tether to my phone to get any internet.
Excellent 10,0
Pros: A great little hotel approximately 5 minutes from airport in a cab. The staff were very helpful and even cooked me a lovely meal after arriving late in the evening. They ordered my taxi for 5ams back to the airport on my arrival. Nothing was too much bother. To be honest it was more than I expected from a 3* hotel! Thank you
Good 7,5
Pros: The reception booked a cab for us and it appeared on time.
Cons: It was more than a mile from the airport, hence was not walkable.

Pros: Nice clean room at back of hotel ideally located near shopping and Frankie and bennys next door.
Cons: Breakfast was terrible. Went down at 8.30- no croissants or pastries, bread was just thin bought bread dried up. Fruit salad was nearly empty and didn’t look very good. Only spread no butter. No one to ask as receptionist busy doing other things. I paid £5.95 for a coffee and a slice of dry toadt(don’t eat spreads). For an extra £2 I could have gone next door for a full cooked plus pastries. Dreadful
