7,1 Good
Pros: Central location to Stadium, Suncoast casino and restaurants and Durban Country Club & Marina. Really enjoyed the golf. Around corner from hotel we had best Thai massage ever and returned two days later. Happy Hour in Peaky Blinders Bar was great. Nice safe area. We used Uber Taxis which were inexpensive. Enjoyed our first time in Durban.
Cons: Property dated.
4,0 Okay
Pros: Staff were mostly friendly.
Cons: We unfortunately stayed here for 9 nights. The rooms were extremely musty and damp - It was unhealthy and we had to request to be moved to alternative rooms (if the facility was unable to move us, we would have had to find alternate accommodation). The property is also in desperate need of maintenance (most windows are difficult to open and close due to rot, leaking roof gutters which drip on your head on the pathways to the rooms and rotten timber handrails at stairways which are wobbly and insecure). On one occasion we came back to find that the french doors and security gate to our rooms were left wide open with all our valuables inside. The owner is extremely unfriendly and unapproachable (he did not bother to introduce himself). When we were discussing the dampness of the rooms with the manager (Vincent), the owner walked past and overheard our the above discussion and interjected and dismissed the dampness/musty smell of the rooms and stated that it was due to the days of rain and big overhanging tree as the cause and then walked away. We pre-arranged onsite parking for our long stay, however this was not guaranteed, as we discovered it was based on a first-come. first-serve basis. I felt that this was very unethical, as we were not even discussing this problem with him, he simply blurted out his comments and proceeded to walk away. The advert states that they have wifi and DSTV channels (satellite TV/channels) which is extremely misleading as there are very few satellite channels which are pre-selected by the management and the guests have no control of choosing/selecting channels, as there is no remote/set top box to do so. The wifi signal is slow/non-existent - which the owner stated was "due to the rain and damage to infrastructure". The lighting in the rooms and mosquito's at the property are a problem. The breakfast was average, as the same thing is served everyday and some items ie. fruit salad werent fresh.

Cons: Nothing
1,0 Poor
Cons: first I was put in a damp room smelling of wetness, after i was transfered to a different room, there were in dining pages missing on the menu.I then called house keeping/reception it took 45minutes for me to get the menu and only then I could order a slice of cake which then took 15 minute to arrive. I was not expecting this kind of service and room standard in a 5star hotel.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. Location is best in Umghlanga.on the beach front and easy walking distance to shops and restaurants. The swimming pool was wonderful and service at pool outstanding . Rooms were immaculate and serviced twice a day. Breakfast was varied and delicious but service at breakfast was a little disappointing. Difficult often to find someone to give a toast order.
Cons: Not much apart from breakfast service
7,0 Good
Pros: The property is clean and in a great location with stunning sea views...
Cons: Breakfast team staff, they’ve got terrible service towards black people cause other races which were around the restaurant were given an exceptional service... Firstly no one assisted with sitting, when we helped ourselves the young African waitress came and removed us with an attitude and told us that the table is occupied and she didn’t offer us another table,we found another unprepared table and we asked the middle age African lady to sort out the table for us as it needed cutlery and breakfast condiments, she took for ever to bring those things as she was busy chatting with other staff members next to the cutlery cabinet...As I was walking towards the buffet the African guy who declared himself as a ‘supervisor’ asked me if “are we being taken good care of “and “I said no I need tea”He brought the tea within few minutes and I asked for a manager, guess who He brought the very same lady that she was ignoring us,the one I asked the cutlery from...&I asked her “why are we being ignored like this as if we are some sort of “gatecrashers” or we don’t belong in their space??she apologized just to let it slide, and she didn’t even explain if you get the full hot breakfast on the buffet or you need to order some of the things...I had to asked that myself as my son wanted the pancakes.... On the Buffet area, the 2 indian guys who were frying eggs they were no where to be seen and I thought they were gone, then 2 white ladies came to the buffet then “Boom “the guys were there with big smiles & asking if they needed any fried eggs/omelettes???It was a like a circus”I never felt so disrespected and humiliated in my whole entire life and it’s so sad and annoying that you get this kind of treatment in your own country, while in other countries people are treated the same and with an exceptional & first class treatment!!!

Pros: The owners and host Tosca and Gary are very hands-on , make you feel at home.
Cons: Room 8 Wi-Fi network was down, otherwise there is nothing to dislike about the place.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was excellent and well presented Location was within 10minutes of our function
Cons: Struggled a wee bit entering at the gate- not enough space to turn into parking when using a Large Van
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Spacious rooms, aircon that actually works, beautiful house, safe and the hosts are awesome people. Loved the breakfast too!
Cons: One of thee most beautiful guest houses I had stayed at. The hosts are amazing and if I come to Durban, you'll find me lodging here!
5,8 Okay
Pros: Gary was Amazing. Very warm and caring individual. Our stay was only favorable due to the hospitality received from Gary. He has a good heart with a very friendly approach to people. The place was beautiful, which is expected from most B&B's and Guesthouses etc. But when thinking of the whole experience it was just Gary that we can give accolades to for making our stay enjoyable. The main house is beautiful and fortunately there are only two rooms that are under the roof parking. The breakfast is standard, not buffet, however Gary cooked up a delicious meal and his hospitality was amazing as always. Gary saw us out on departure and was Amazing throughout.
Cons: The location is in a very small street. On arrival we pressed the intercom to enter the premises however the neighbor across the road needed to enter her property. As a result we were forced to move our car so she can get into the property. On returning back to the intercom we were met with an very abrupt lady (will not disclose her name even though known); who was clearly upset with us for not being at the intercom when she came on. This is what set off a distasteful taste in the start of our trip, so as we all know if things start off distasteful its going to end that way. We were then met with a disgruntled lady who appeared still upset that she had to walk to the gate to meet us. We remained pleasant however already feeling discomfort. She then took us to our room which is a beautiful room. Very spacious and private, however there was a smell of damp in the air. The room is situated under a roof parking so that could have been the reason, however on my stating there is a damp smell in the room, this made the lady get even more riled up. She offered to take us to another room however she was already at this point trying to be helpful however in a very unfriendly disgruntled manner. She had already deducted the full amount for the accommodation, even though booking.com, stated we would only be charged when we get to the location, so we were forced to take it. We were offered a better room but by this time were so uncomfortable at being there due to the reaction from her. The second room that was offered was warmer with no damp smell as it was in the main house. We got ourselves ready and left the premises. She did not offer us the WIFI password like other B&B's and guesthouses etc offer. We had to ask Gary for it in the morning before we left. We were basically greeted with a smile by Gary but not from the Lady throughout our stay!

5,0 Okay
Pros: Beautiful gardens.
Cons: Did we stay at a Conference Centre or a hotel? Difficult to say. The Executive Rooms are located just above the Conference/Event Rooms and there is constant noise and bustle throughout the day/evening. It appears that more emphasis is placed on these events than their guests' comfort. The unsecure social WIFI (when it works) is just not acceptable. The restaurant staff need further training.

Pros: Always good.
Cons: Restaurants need work.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Gorgeous view of the sunrise. Great location. The staff were welcoming, and gracious.
Cons: Our room felt like a converted broom closet. For a hotel of this rating, I expected something a bit more spacious. Be wary of windows that open wide without any safety precautions. It was a bit hairy being on the tenth floor, and leaning out of the window with nary a safety net in sight!
3,0 Mediocre
Pros: The Sunday breakfast was lovely with a wonderful spread.
Cons: The breakfast buffet was lovely, the hotel was extremely disappointing staff are rude and unhelpful, the hotel was dirty with the sewage leaking in the basement and the stench was horrid. As a 4 star establishment it was so poor over priced. On arrival they did not have the promised complementary items as promised, the bathroom sink did not work, the corridors were busy with people shouting and was extremely unpleasant.

Pros: beach
Cons: no shuttle service available. They said they could get someone to take me to the airport. I wanted a registered shuttle service. Breakfast pork sausages still raw in the middle. I tried calling reception because my bedroom patio door wouldn't lock . They didn't answer. I had to go downstairs and there wasn't anybody around. Eventually a staff member came up in the lift and he was very nice and helpful. He got the man at reception to help come and put it back on rails so I could lock it. Surely these things should be checked when you are paying R1600 a night. I am staying in Umdloti on way back for R980 a night as I wasn't impressed with your hotel. I felt i was inconveniencing the man at reception when I asked for something.

Pros: The property was conveniently close to the centre of Umhlanga, Breakfast was very good, bedrooms were very comfortable and owners and staff were very friendly and more than accommodating. Very good Value for money. We were there for a family 21st birthday and it was the day of the Rugby World Cup Final. They had no problem with the Happy Birthdays and were happy for us to stay after leaving time to watch the match. And our cars got rinsed off !!
Cons: Quite a bit of construction in the area and no braai facilities

Pros: Summerhill unveils a generous amount of hospitality delivered with passion by this family owned culinary retreat. The accommodation allows for a comfortable nights rest with beautiful views that I suspect are lush in summer. BUT the main reason you will visit, is to savour their Living Room "Restaurant" that with a limited hosted 24 guests per seating offers a hidden culinary experience serving a 4, 5 or 7 course menu with handpicked wine parings. No pretences, its is beautifully plated food, sustainably sourced, and available.
