Pros: It is cozy, charming hotel, with the ocean almost touching your room. Amazing location and good international food.
Cons: Random hours for housekeeping.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Very beautiful hotel, perfect location and helpful staff. Confortable room, pretty swimming pool and direct access to a really nice beach (the best in Zanzibar). Sunset just in front of the pool. Different dinning options at a walking distance.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Close to the beach
Cons: Long drive from the airport
8,3 Excellent
Pros: A great resort on a beautiful beach and plenty to do nearby
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything is fine, good restaurants, great pool area.
Cons: Not enough gym
8,8 Excellent
Pros: GREAT LOCATION AND FUN TO WATCH THE LOCALS ACTIVITIES ON THE BEACH IN THE EVENING
Cons: LIMITED BEACH DECKCHAIRS SO YOU HAVE TO BE UP EARLY TO BOOK A SPACE ON THE BEACHFRONT. THERE ARE PLENTY OF CHAIRS AROUND THE POOL BUT WE CHOSE THIS HOTEL FOR A BEACH HOLIDAY.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is perfectly located at the white sand beach.
Cons: I took the half board. But to be honest it doesn’t make sense at all even if taking starter, main and dessert. Without half board I would have payed less for the same meals. However the food at the Saruchin Restaurant was really really good.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect place
Cons: Nothing
9,3 Excellent
Pros: We had some trouble with our reservation (I made a mistake) and celine was very efficient and kind to repair that. Also julie was really understanding and carrying about our complain about some noise. The staff of the hotel is really helpful and polite. The pool service is great. The hotel has a beautiful rooftop bar, a very good restaurant (saruche) where you can be served at the beach, feet on the sand! Very pleasant! You can also stay in your room and have a drink at the balcony, which was nice. We didn’t have the urge to go out of the hotel. The sea view room is confortable and has a beautiful view specially at sunset! They also have great beach chairs, just don’t sleep late otherwise you will loose the best spots! I highly recommend this hotel for a nungwi stay!
Cons: There are too many differences between the same standards rooms. The same garden room booked can be nice or not for exemple... Because of our own mistake booking we had to change rooms and got a garden view room and a sea view room during our stay. Our garden view room was actually a restaurant view. We couldn’t open the curtains and we could listen the sound of people dinning.... also in this room we heard the staff arriving to prepare breakfast... that was one awful room... and apparently just a bad luck case because it seems that the other garden view rooms were better. When we changed for the sea view room it was perfect! Beautiful view of the ocean! But we also observed that there ate other sea view rooms with not so good views (depending on floors and trees in the front)... since I don’t like to rely on luck, I believe we should see exactly what we are paying for...

Pros: We had a beautiful room and the staff were wonderful! Happy hour cocktails and the pool were also highlights.
Cons: nothing it was fabulous!

Pros: Amazing helpful staff, nothing is too much trouble for them
Cons: Sometimes couldn’t swim in the sea when it was high tide,
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Must say great place, the staff is truly amazing especially her name is “Leah”. Gave good care and hospitality. Location was great and the vibe was amazing. Highly recommend
Cons: When I missed 2 days of breakfast (that we paid for) I asked the staff if I can go into lunch instead just as a one timer, they did not allow and weren’t considered.

Pros: Booked Doubletree Nungwi but the Kayak stuffed up the booking and created a reservation with a hotel in a different city.
Cons: Wasted over an hour on the phone to Kayak who refused to find us an alternate hotel in Nungwi. Still waiting for a refund. Terrible booking experience. A good way to ruin a holiday.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Had the best experience at this resort. Staff was super nice. They remember uour face and make sure you are comfortable and part of the group. Room was stunning and right on the beach
Cons: As a vegetarian, i didn't have too many options. It was either rice with veggies or potatoes. Maybe add more options
3,0 Mediocre
Pros: The bed was very comfortable and the view from my porch was lovely.
Cons: That the AC was leaking (this was a premium seaview room by the way), the shower did not have a door so the water leaked out. When I called one day to have housekeeping bring a towel to clean up the water, the lady who dropped off the towels had an attitude. One security guard made me walk to the check-in desk so he could verify my stay at the property. Sad to say that this property is more welcoming to Swedes, Americans, Norwegians, but not local Africans or people from the diapora.
7,0 Good
Pros: Great view from our room, but don’t expect too much as the bathrooms were not Hilton standard. Very friendly staff but food was average.

Pros: Location , staff very friendly .
Cons: The pool area was tired and in need of some tic.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The landscaping done in the resort. The cheerfulness of the staff. Awesome food. Everything was clean. During the dinners on the beach, and the pool: the serving staff would join the entrainment group for dancing, which was extremely fun.
Cons: Booking taxis and transportation through the hotel incurs a premium.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Swimming pools 4 of them
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Food, location, staff, gorgeous beach, facilities, rooms are stunning.
Cons: The price was crazy. To pay that for a few hours is insane. Check out is at 10am which is not policy anywhere else.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The whole holiday experience was fantastic. The service was great and we enjoyed a most relaxing time. The meals were also great and the Christmas eve dinner was exceptional.
Cons: The first day of our stay was marred by an exceptionally rude guest who accused us of stealing his pool/beach towel and pool loungers. It turned out that, without our knowledge, the pool attendant had taken the guest's towel and moved the loungers for our use. We noticed that contrary to the hotel booking rules this rude individual (with wife and one child) helped himself on a daily basis to 3 loungers in the shade and two loungers in the sun. On the one day, they did not use the loungers for 6 hours. Rules must be enforced for guest convenience.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Its Africa. Dont expect real 5 European stars but the hotel is really good. Beautiful beach, nice swimming pools and friendly staff. Rooms need a bit renewal but they are still ok. Food is fine, only sea food is missing - i have found only octopus through 7 days stay.
Cons: The road from airport to hotel is horrible. Last 500 m is local road and the hotel should inmediatelly invest in it. If You pay 500 usd per night You might expect at least safe road!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The property is very large, so my family (parents and three grown up kids) stayed for two weeks and we didn't get bored just by staying at the hotel, taking walks on the beach and renting a boat three times to snorkel on the islands nearby (I swam with dolphins in the wild (they just showed up out of the blue), there are lots of live corals and beautiful fish and sea turtles (these are rare though)). All inclusive makes life really easy and the staff is very very nice. The rooms (ocean suite) were very large with great bathrooms and overlooking the beach and ocean. There are so many pools for young and old and one directly overlooking the ocean. The beach beds are everywhere, so you have a choice to sit by the beach (not on the public beach though which is good because you feel your things are protected by the hotel Masai guards :) ) or near any of the pools. I did feel safe every where though but it feels great to see Masai guards everywhere in the hotel as well and also exotic haha. The beach water was super warm and clear and the tide does not affect the swimming at this hotel which is important because the other top hotel on the end of Nungwi village which we were considering basically doesn't have a beach when its high tide and no water when its low tide. It seems like only the area around Royal Zanzibar (going down to Kendwa and up a bit) isn't impacted by swimming quality at low tide. What was good about this beach was also that it wasn't too close to the central public beach (all beaches are public, but the hotel is not in the busy public area, which is great). There is hotel entertainment for everyone. Yoga and stretching on the terrace overlooking the sea for me; beach volley ball, soccer, and waterpolo for my brothers; local music and performances in the evening for my parents (all free of charge). There is a spa beauty treatment (no sauna) right above the beach - great relaxing massage with ocean waves in the background.
Cons: Generally everything was really good. If I had to make some comments it would be - the rooms have aircon which works great, but it would be nice to have normal ceiling fans too, simply to circulate the air without having to turn on the aircon. The food was generally very good with a lot of choices between fresh fruits, salads, meat, fish, octopus, squid, etc... however if people are expecting typical bland European or Western hotel food, its not like that anywhere in Zanzibar. Its more African /Asian influence. There are lots of juices available, but it would be great if more of them were fresh. And the only real improvement that I could suggest would be to cool the main restaurant more, e.g. install ceiling fans or more aircon.

Pros: Family holiday in Tanzania. Visited Zanzibar for a four night stay at Royal Zanzibar Beach resort. Our fourth time to Zanzibar amazing hotel loved every minute.
Cons: Everything was spot on. Staff were amazing.Ju
6,3 Good
Pros: They have a nice pool and they have a wonderful beach.
Cons: For all inclusive it was WAY over priced. They served us raw pork and their fish was way over cooked. Bar service was incredibly slow and they ran out of tonic water, ice and other items. The grounds need a lot of maintenance.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Great location with great pools and a wonderful beach. Food is fantastic and the staff are so great

10,0 Excellent
Pros: EVERYTHING! But most the staff!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great location close to Nungwi although not walking distance. The hotel team were brilliant and the food excellent.
Cons: There wasn’t anything to dislike.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff and grounds.
6,8 Good
Pros: The rooms were very clean and spacious! Upon arrival we were kindly upgraded to a big suite / villa which was a great treat! The space was huge, and had a lovely private outside area with a plunge pool, table and deck chairs, sun loungers and a swing chair! The shower was also great, very hot water and spacious! The staff were very friendly too, and super helpful with anything we needed! It is also quite close to the main part of Nungwi Beach which was handy!
Cons: The overall decor of the property was quite dated. The gardens had long grass, and the vibe felt rather traditional. Also, there were not many guests so it was very quiet (although that could be due to low season) - probably not suitable for 3 young girls. Lastly, the food was not great. Breakfast was nice, but the cocktails and a la carte menu were sub par. Overall, I think the hotel is quite overpriced for the offering (food, design / decor, vibe and rooms).
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Calm , nice , silance , for partners , honeymoon.
Cons: A little bit far away to centre.7 dolar each 1 way transfer.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The friendly, helpful and professional staf of this hotel, made me feel welcome and safe. I always returned to a perfectly clean room. I liked the quiet location with an amazing view, only a 30 min walk from the busier area.
Cons: nothing
9,3 Excellent
Pros: The staff were all really friendly and very helpful, from the manager Cynthia to Elizabeth on the bar and Rosa the cleaner. The rooms were turned 2/3 times a day so it was always fresh and great towel origami by Rosa!
Cons: The only minor negatives were the internet dropped out a lot and my one comment would be for all the hotels on the road to club together to get the stretch tarmac’d.
6,8 Good
Pros: The room was nice and the staff was polite
Cons: They took forever to prepare meals. Their breakfast was not good at all. Some things on their menu where not available.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The food was amazing, the staff was incredible. They were so accommodating. Amazing place to stay.
Cons: The massage was ok.

8,0 Excellent
Pros: The location was perfect. One day the coconuts were being picked from the trees and we were offered one by the staff when we showed an interest in how skilled they were to climb up so high without harnesses or safety equipment.
Cons: Breakfast took ages to come out. You needed to ask for menus rather than them being given by staff. We asked for our lunch on the beach one afternoon and the lady there rolled her eyes and huffed. Receptionists, maintenance and security staff were really helpful. Wait staff were terrible, there's a reason everyone eats elsewhere for lunch and dinner.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The location was great. Away from the tourist area but close enough to get to. Room was a good size. Bed very large. Serviced everyday with new sheets and towels. Has been renovated recently and a little bit to finish.
Cons: The breakfast menu needs work but adequate. Constant work on the 3rd floor and the pool was a distraction and a disruption.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: I loved the peace and quietness on this place. Nice rooms and a really friendly staff.
Cons: There was constructionwork on the rooms next to us and also to the swimmingpool that was a disappointment for such a tranquil environment.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: When we arrived the property moved us to another hotel for one night (which was a little inconvenient) as the other hotel was not as good. However, they gave us a discounted rate at checkout which was fab! I appreciated the fact that they did all that without we even asking them for one! The customer service at the hotel is much more advanced than others in zanzibar! Thank you to the team!
3,8 Mediocre
Pros: Close to the beach
Cons: The hotel was fixing the pool could not sit round it banging and dust .,we did not have a hot shower one day. No hot water we told reception every day . We could not stay in our. Room they where doing repairs banging one morning 730am. Every day banging. .. why the management chose to do repairs in the high tourist season. I wonder ? We ordered a chicken club sandwich first day all chicken fat did not eat there again. .. breakfast. Ok but not one order was right till the last morning I s the staff though very friendly dissa
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Nice staff, away from the most crowded areas and from beach boys, not the most beautiful beach in nungwi but within a few minutes of walk you can reach any place in the city. It’s also located in a point where the tide begins to become evident so you can both enjoy the swimming at any time in the day but also the long walks on the beach when it’s low tide ( just walk east)
8,8 Excellent
Pros: We loved our stay at Smiles Beach resort! It was perfect for relaxing, so we spent a lot of time by the poolside. The room and bathroom were very big and clean. The beds were big too and very comfortable (including mosquito nets). We also really liked our little balcony! Breakfast was nice, there was a lot of choice and the staff was friendly + helpfull. We really recommend the place if you want a relaxing and comfortable stay in Nungwi!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything, but especially Giuseppe and his staff who helped me with the marriage proposal to my fiancee :) The maasai warrior managing the security was also a very kind and funny person. Sundown view is incredible!
3,8 Mediocre
Pros: Really was very disappointed that it was based on an 8.3 rating and really did not deserve that score. There was very little other than a potentially good location.
Cons: No water in the morning to flush toilet Cold shower in the morning Waited 50 minutes for an omelette Were told we had to wait for coffee at 7am Nobody smiled during our stay other than the fake reception guy when we got there No alcohol available on the premises Food was limited and had to go to Jerry’s down the road for a lovely meal The sides of the bed were dirty with foot marks everywhere We were told we could not even swim when there was no water in the taps. Normally I give really good scores but this was just terrible and we could not wait to go to our next destination
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The location was good although Nungwi is too busy for us, which is not the hotels fault.
Cons: The hotel is dry, ie; no alcohol which I don’t recall reading before we left for our trip.

Pros: We stayed with the half board option and the food was good, breakfast was the standard Zanzibari fare of fruit and eggs, All very good. Situated away from the hustle and bustle Nungwi beach clubs. Great views from deck.
Cons: Rooms slightly on small side, but one only needs it for sleeping. A kettle in the room would have been a good idea.

Cons: Nothing to say. Everything was great
6,8 Good
Pros: The management was very flexible with changing check out date. Great swimming pool and amazing view

Pros: We loved our stay here. We had stayed on the north coast before but this resort was much nicer. The place was away from the crowded beach resorts, the price (which included breakfast and dinner), the rooms were very nice. Service was also excellent.
Cons: No beach during high tides that are directly at the hotel. It's a short walk down the street to a public beach.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was amazing. So friendly and accomidating. Made me feel very welcome and at home.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Located at the edge of the cliff and in a nicely landscaped area. All staff at the hotel were helpful, cheerful and friendly. We enjoyed our stay in this hotel, though it was short.

Pros: The areas to relax by the sea, lovely staff (Andrew was very helpful at meal times)- they even went into town to get pain meds when our kids got ear infections.
Cons: Not 5 star fancy but I actually liked the simple better. No salespeople bothering us (a stand is set up to book excursions), just the quiet and peace.
