Pros: Very friendly staff who were very helpful in arranging a dinner reservation.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Besides the room being exceptionally beautiful, the attention given to the small details was the absolute highlight of our stay. It was my evening after our wedding. The staff went out of their way to make our stay extra special with an incredible turn down service. We arrived back at the hotel room with rose petals scattered all over the room, and a chilled bottle of champagne at the foot of the bed. The manager had breakfast set in a separate room to the main restaurant to give us some added privacy. We could not be more impressed.
Cons: Nil.

Pros: Good location to the beach, rooms overlook pool which makes for a quiet outlook. Spacious rooms which were clean. Breakfast was good, breakfast chef was lovely - great sense of humour! Very well manicured gardens.
Cons: Although the property is very well kept and clean, the room was a little worn in places.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Nice place. There was a nice big pool at the property. We only stayed one night in Port Elizabeth before our flight so it was sufficient for us. Good value for money.
8,3 Excellent
Cons: Bad experience with the owners. After contacting them and letting them know that i was running late my reception was very cold and unprofessional. People with such bad manners and attitude should not be dealing with the public. It is quite a pity as your guesthouse is really cute and you are blessed with lovely staff thanks to your staff I had a bearable time. Your people skills needs serious attention. Check in and check out was both a nightmare due to you and your Sons rudeness.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Very good breakfast,
Cons: Bed was little bit to soft, there is a tube inside the pool
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent little gem..superb attention to detail with wonderful attentive and friendly hosts

Cons: We needed some help and the hosts didn’t want to help us since it was late (22:30)

Pros: Nothing
Cons: Everything
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The bed was comfortable and the shower hot and powerful. There was also a bath. The garden was very pretty. There was a well stocked honesty bar/fridge. The room was huge.
Cons: I stayed here 22 years ago and was impressed so it was my first choice when returning to PE. However, the room felt dated and tired. For example the large folding doors to the pool did not open as in the photo rather you had to struggle to open a sliding door in the corner which was stiff and opened only half way. Most of the literature in the info book predated 2009 and the reviews were even older. On arrival I would describe the host as polite but not particularly welcoming. I asked for recommendations to eat but she did not have any and said we should head to Stanley Street but could not direct us as too complicated (we did not have sat nav and no map in room). There were no sunbeds to sit by the pool.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Location, great facilities, garden. Leonie is a star!!!
Cons: n/a
10,0 Excellent

Cons: —
7,1 Good
Pros: Nice area. Comfy bed. Good breakfast.
Cons: Needs updating. All a bit tired. The info in the room was very old and dog eared eg some of the restaurants recommended no longer exist.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: I expected a small nondescript b&B, but was pleasantly surprised. Large comfortable rooms. I will definitely stay here again.
Cons: The table in the room is poorly located in a corner of the room. Far from plugs so you can't do any work on it, and you can't have a meal and catch up on the tv news.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful room and gardens.
Cons: The shower was difficult to adjust to correct temperature

Cons: Limited breakfast
8,8 Excellent
Pros: A confortable and convenient stay, close to all the main amenities in Summerstrand. Great breakfast! Attention to detail, like beach towels, the dvd library and umbrellas makes for a great stay. The rooms are spacious and well equipped.
Cons: We booked quite late, as we had a change of plans quite late in the day. The staff was a bit annoyed with us showing up only 15 minutes before the front desk closed. However, the reason for us arriving so late was beyond our control due to delayed flights etc. Not the best start in terms of service and attitude, but once we arrived at the property things improved drastically.

Pros: Location and facilities.
Cons: We were very happy.

Cons: Was away from the restaurants on the beachfront, would have needed to walk or get a cab - but the food in the hotel was perfectly fine, but limited so if staying longer than 1 might I may have travelled up the beachfront

7,1 Good
Pros: Bed was very comfortable. Location is very good, not to far from most places. Staff were very friendly.. Made stay enjoyable
Cons: Breakfast was a little plain, could do with some spicing up. Shower in bathroom, is too short, I am only 1.83m and i still could stand straight.
7,0 Good
Pros: Very convenient to airport. But only arrived at 6 pm and left at 5 am the next morning for a very early flight. The host (Carl) was very nice and so was Buddy! Room was comfortable, cannot comment on the food as we weren’t there long enough.
7,1 Good
Pros: The location was good, close to restaurants and shops
Cons: The host told me rudely I was unwelcome to stay at the premises beyond the check out time 10am. I vacated my room at 9am and just wanted to remain at the premises until 11h30 sitting quietly at a table doing some work on my computer as I only had to be at the airport at 12h30. Ended up having to go to a WIMPY restautant where I enjoyed a cup of coffee and was made to feel welcome. Wont be back

10
8,9 Excellent (138 reviews)

Overview Reviews
The Windermere by Mantis is located a street away from the Port Elizabeth beach front where the King's Beach markets takes places every weekend. Built for intimacy around a central garden courtyard with vine covered walls, a swimming pool, and patio where guests are served complimentary afternoon tea, daily. The hotel has 10 very spacious rooms with large bathrooms. Close to restaurants and beachfront activities while just 10 minutes from the airport and business districts.
3,8 Mediocre
Pros: The staff was friendly & the food was fine although dinner took a while to prepare.
Cons: The main door to two interconnecting rooms did not lock, the decor is old & basic. The hotel looks nothing like the pictures online and does not deserve a five star rating or prices. It is more a 3 star. Meals & drinks are overpriced with a limited selection.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable bed; large, spacious bed; separate toilet cubicle with a door! Very tasty omelette filling. Very warm, friendly welcome.
Cons: The parking was too cramped for our Amarok: with the front of the vehicle touching the wall and the sides of the entrance too narrow to enter without retracting the side mirrors the sliding door had to be pushed over the tow hitch from the outside of the garage in order to close!
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable bed

6,0 Good
Cons: We had no water in the morning and was unable to shower or flush the bathroom toilets. Nobody in the facility took the initiative to tell us and when we inquired, it was actually an issue with quite a few rooms. There was also no partial refund or compensation for the inconvenience.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The room is very spacious and nicely decorated, bathroom is very big, breakfast delicious. It was well located also. I recommend it.
Cons: Everything was great. There was a little problem with our bathtub and with the door, but the staff was really attentive and tried her best to fix it.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The great ladies that made up the happenings of the night before.
Cons: After reading all the amazing reviews it feels a bit off to give some less good feedback. The room itself was huge and the area looks very nice. Unfortunately we had dinner there as well, but they let the guard do the service and the poor man had no idea... also the diner was not what we would expect (fish was quite dry and the fries were still quite raw), but we did not want to complain because they try hard. But then we were so unlucky that there was a group of guests. They kept us awake from 23.30 until 01.30 talking out loud, putting music on, calling next to our window. We did not want to complain directly, but after some time we really wanted to sleep and we had to call the guard 2 times! The morning after we spoke to the ladies in the hotel, the felt really sorry and informed us that this should not have been the case. They offered us to move to another room and when we came back that afternoon they had put a nice cheese platter in our room as an apology. These ladies really understand well what customer service means and we are happy to also see that side of the hotel that probably most guests have seen! Luckily the second night we slept really well and in the morning the ladies asked again if everything was as we expected. Well done!

Pros: The simple breakfast. The decor.
Cons: The shower doors were dirty and the inside of the shower was not clean. There was no mirror in the room near the plug point to dry your hair. The mirror was lying loose inside the cupboard.
3,8 Mediocre
Pros: The poorest Breakfast we have ever had in a B n B accommodation in 35 years of our lives as a couple. We were given cereal with a toast of brown bread and milk for the cereal, no margarine, just assorted jams. As a result, I never touched the yoghurt or fruits on offer. Two slices of brown bread given, I took only a slice. I would rather be in a place without breakfast, than this one. I found management to be very unfriendly to us for the following reasons: The morning we were to check out was the only day we had breakfast for the duration of our stay. My wife went for breakfast ahead of me. I followed later, after my wife returned from breakfast. When I got there, I met two ladies in the reception, including the one who welcomed us the night of our arrival. I think she said she was Lin..... something, the owner. She was on the phone, so I greeted the other lady I was meeting for the first time and the helper. I went to the dining room to have breakfast. This owner last saw us when we arrived on the night of 6 November. She was seeing us again on the morning we were supposed to be checking out on 8 November. Soon after her telephone call, I saw her driving out of the compound without saying hello, when I was just next door having breakfast. Any friendly and welcoming host, who values my business for her as a guest, would have spent 10 seconds to say hello, how are we enjoying our stay, then excuse herself and disappear. She just left unconcerned. When I got back to the room, I told my wife what had happened. She said to me that I was even lucky I found her on the phone. With her, this lady was not on the phone, but couldn't careless to inquire whether she was okay or not and enjoying her stay with them, until she finished her breakfast and left.
Cons: Our first night, we were met with the dirtiest bathroom. There were ants crawling all over the bathroom; the walls, especially around the window sills were filthy and needed serious scrubbing. The bathroom was dusty all over and the floor mats in front of the toilet bowl and shower will not be used even in a squatter camp, let alone a guest house. We wondered if this room was ever inspected by management before allocating it to us. I took pictures of the condition of the bathroom to support whatever I am saying here. I can make it available for viewing. I even regretted not taking a video of the crawling ants in the filthy bathroom. We were expecting a guest house in this city to provide a complementary soap (those small cakes) in a bathroom in case a guest forgot to carry soap. That is what happened to us. We were just taken to our room and shown how to operate this and that. After that we were on our own. Tired as we were, after travelling such a long distance, we had to drive out to the shop to buy soap to bath before sleeping. We were allocated Room 5 and there was a couple guest allocated in Room 4. It was the noisiest night from that room. The lady laughed unceasingly and so loudly, and their television blurred loud music until after 23:00. We don't remember when we fell asleep, and there was nobody around to complain to. I intended complaining to the management the following day, but the business for which we came to PE, we left the establishment even before breakfast and came back late and therefore, could have the chance to inform management about our observations.

Pros: We were not given options for Breakfast, the owner just asked how would we like our eggs done, Then boom breakfast came, the sausage was poor, the lettuce was old. Overall the breakfast was of very poor standard with no options to choose from. What happens if you dont like hot beans, bacon,, no option for you.
Cons: The guy that served was grumpy and not welcoming and the place was smelly of tobacco from the guy. His kids (i assume) were making noise during breakfast time and collecting left overs to eat.

Pros: location was excellent and the breakfast good
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The property was lovely..nicely laid out grounds with the boardwalk in the back..view was very nice overlooking the ocean, room was excellent..clean, comfortable and the breakfast was amazing!
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Fab hotel, stayed for 2 nights and really enjoyed it. Staff were very helpful and organised transfers to and from the airport. Great value for money.
7,0 Good
Pros: Room was excellent, large, spacious and very clean and comfortable. Wonderful views of the beach front. Breakfast was good although the standard has dropped over the years.
Cons: I got the impression that this hotel is battling financially. Our Air Conditioning did not work so they upgraded us to another lovely room. In this room, the one wash basin was blocked, the safe did not work, and neither did about 10 of the TV channels. When reported nothing was done about these things.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Especially Noxolo in Smoking cigar lounge went the xtra mile with her beautiful smile
6,0 Good
Pros: The location of the hotel is great, overlooking the sea and the room was superb with amazing views and great facilities. All the staff were fantastic. Always willing to help and provide information in every way. They do a brilliant job.
Cons: I was disappointed and surprised that the only bar in the hotel was designated for smokers. All non-smokers have to sit out in the lounge or on the terrace and rely on waitered service. I questioned the reception staff why their smoking policy was contrary to all other hotels and they agreed that The Boardwalk is different. It is strange that such an iconic hotel discriminates against non-smokers in this way. I also noticed that smoking and non-smoking bedrooms are on the same floor which means you have to walk down smoky corridors to get to your room.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We were upgraded to a suite. Everything were outstanding, from the start to the end. Highly recommended.
Cons: There was not a flat sheet on the bed, only a duvet to cover us with.
7,0 Good
Pros: i liked that its just a walk away from the beach and there's everything around. you can actually stay there without having to drive around.
Cons: The carpets must just go. The smell of carpets is something that i cannot stand at all. Too many flies.

Pros: The fact that the restaurant Ginger where we had our year-end was close to our rooms. everything were comfortable. Thank you
Cons: it was a bit hot in the rooms and the air-cons must cool the room not the individual people on the bed.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly stuff. Nice terrace for drinks.
Cons: During check-in they deliver a card to join for dinner at a restaurant of the hotel, but it is not indicated that booking is needed. Luckily many other options available in the same hotel. Stuff enter in your room the same day of arrival after checking-in without permission or notice. That I found it weird.

Pros: A largish hotel right on the seafront which we visited at the end of our stay in SA so we could have a beach day before our journey back to the UK. Good location, lovely beach, a few bars and restaurants
Cons: No negative comments - it was what we needed for a one night stay - don't think I would have liked to have stayed much longer.
