I had breakfast twice, and was severely disappointed at the outrageous price for the poor, poor quality of every aspect of the food--coffee is burnt and thick like mud, toast burnt, side vegetables unbelievably expensive with NO quality. The fresh orange juice is good. And that's it. Otherwise, the hotel is just wonderful.

Pros: **keep in mind, review is for guests who didn't park at all** Shower is by far the best of the hotels I have stayed at. The room was clean (but small, true to San Fran /Japanese style). Bed was also very comfortable. TV was small (~42 inches) but had a nice stand that could be angled alnost 180 degrees. Cleaning staff was very thorough and even organized our toilet trees for us that we left on the sink (I thought this was cool, others may see it differently). Overall clean and fancy facilities, nice staff. Good location in reference to Union Square.
Cons: We witnessed someone getting beat up by at least 4 individuals in an ally right across the street from the hotel. We still didn't feel unsafe in the hotel or around San Francisco, but maybe we should have? Other hotels wouldn't be immune to this problem either (to my best estimate). $6 waters in the room. No prices in the gift shop (yes I can afford it, but maybe I don't get the chips for $2.5 and just go for the $3.50 water instead or go to Starbucks that is attached to the hotel for $2 waters).

Pros: I stayed at the Nikko Hotel for one night during the Nike Women's Half Marathon. Not only was a beautiful, and luxurious hotel but it was also in the perfect location in Union Square for the Nike Women's Half Marathon and Expotique. The customer service was phenomenal and they even extended check out for NWM participants. This was great because it enabled us to shower before our journey home. Thank you Nikko Hotel for such top notch accommodations! I will definitely stay here again next year!

Pros: I liked that we were able to find a great place on such short notice. The Manager on Duty, I think her name was Susan, was very helpful after one of the reservation agent accidentally mixed up our checkout time- and another Agent Brandon wasn't very kind to us. I ate most of my meals at the hotel, breakfast lunch and dinner- and I had three different bartender/servers during my stay that were all so very pleasant. Some even gave me directions to buy a hoodie at a nearby store because I didn't realize it would be colder there this time of year still. And the chef made me an awesome salad when I wanted to exchange tuna for chicken on the salad that comes with Lemon Dressing- it was absolutely fantastic. I highly recommend this substitution as the combination of greens and dressing go amazing with Tuna! It will cost you 2 dollars more as Tuna is more expensive (rightfully so) but it I ate the entire thing. I couldn't stop myself.

Cons: The hotel presents itself to be a resort facility and charges accordingly including a resort fee but there are few if any resort features to it. There is no pool or hot tub no view of any sort except going outside, no breakfast available. The rooms are small and it shows that they have been carved out of an old apartment (or office) complex. They have expresso machines in the rooms in place of coffee makers we found them difficult to get them to work.

Pros: The room has a very hip vibe that is a hit with my kids ages 12-17. They love it! The hotel is just a block away from the cable car when we came back from a night at the downtown area. No hassle when we went around SF downtown and back. It is also within the activities from the pier. It is far enough from the main noise but near enough for a few minutes walk. Very accessible to all the great restaurants and activities around the area.

Cons: Upon checking in, they didn't have our room available until the next day. Not sure how that even happens, but after talking to the manager, he miraculously was able to get our room. I had an allergic reaction to the laundry detergent they use on the bed sheets and my eyes swelled up. I was told that if you have allergies, you need to call in advance to make sure they wash the bedding with hyper-allergenic detergent (they normally use Dawn). For the inconveniences, they did comp me my room service.

Pros: If you're looking for convenience and a great location with amazing customer service, pay the extra cash and stay at the the Marriott Marquis. The convenience and hospitality here was amazing. I felt like I was treated like a VIP while staying in a basic room. Housekeeping was gracious, and welcoming coming and going every single day. Anytime I needed the smallest of things they were delivered promptly (toothpaste, towels, silverware, soaps, etc). I needed some mail delivered, they took it for me. Anytime my girlfriend and I needed directions or suggestions on great places to go the information desk were our saviors. VERY knowledgeable about the entirety of San Fran. The 55th floor bar has a great view of the city, the bartender was also great. There is a little convenient store as well as Starbucks located on the main floor for convenience. Great hotel!

Cons: They tried to steal my luggage when I first came in, took them over 4 hours to bring my stuff up. I said enough of this bs and went to go down myself and get all my stuff to find it hiding in a room away from everyone else while the guy at the front was telling me "it'll be there shortly were a little backed up". Then to top it all off I find $35 of charges from the hotel of stuff I never used. I've never been so disrespected by a hotel in my life. Shady workers I highly recommend you don't stay here.

Pros: Good arrival and wait staff were both friendly and efficient. The door man was great and the team inside were extremely helpful. I have stayed in other SF hotels in the past and Hotel Zelos is a nice addition to the city. City hotel rooms can sometimes be small but the rooms at Zelos are very spacious! I also would like to say thank you for an overall smooth and fun experience! From booking on line with Kayak to speaking directly with the hotel, to checking in & out, everyone was super friendly and consistently would go out of their way to be helpful.

Then the confusion in the garage, mind you I thought I lost my ticket to return however I unpacked it when I arrived back home this evening. There was a problem between the hand written sign in log from the valet and the printed report from the front desk and the hotel's portion of valet claim check system also did not work. I retrieved my vehicle because I brought the only two matching keys and I have matching handmade key chains attached. Breakfast table with two nice chairs rather than a rolling office chair. That was weird. But it was also SF PRIDE weekend so who cares!

Pros: The service at the San Francisco Palomar was excellent. The front desk staff and doormen deserve top marks. They were helpful in every circumstance from procuring a taxi to giving directions or making suggestions regarding nearby attractions and walking distances. The hotel was clean, the restaurant was superb....fantastic breakfast! And the wait staff was superior. We would stay here again in a heartbeat and look forward to that happening in the near future. Hats off to the Palomar staff!!!!!!!

If I wasn’t pregnant we would hve definetly used them. Everything in the city was a quick walk or uber ride. Restaurant on the 5th floor was surprisingly great. Super great stay here. Almost didn’t want to write this review because I don’t want this hotel to get super busy and raise prices!

Pros: The location of the hotel was excellent. There were many nice dining, shopping and entertainment options very close by. It is also very close to a BART station so getting there from the airport is very easy. San Francisco is a surprisingly easy city to drive in as well, though parking is very expensive.

Granted we got a deal on the cost of the room, so we're not complaining too much but the actual cost of the rooms are very expensive and then to add over $150 of addtional fees when checking out is a little crazy. I know this is due to covid and them being careful but which person what to stay in a room that’s not being cleaned?! On the 3rd day I asked for my room to be cleaned and since they have a time that cleaning is done - it was done on the 4th day.

Pros: We stayed a night since it was near our morning meeting. The layout and lobby is great, and the staff is very welcoming. Unfortunately let down by mediocre room experience (deluxe king) and we could not have a good rest.
Cons: The thermostat in our room was broken and it was way too hot. We tried re-setting it several times but it kept blowing hot air even though it was 75F. It was very difficult to sleep and sweated through the night. The shower pressure was very low. Having both shower head choices was nice, but it was difficult to feel clean because the water pressure was very low and so it took much longer to soap off. For a business hotel, you had to pay for internet. We used a hotspot instead. It felt a bit confused whether it was a luxury hotel or a business hotel, and for the price point I would stay somewhere else that has better value for money. Not having a good night sleep really affected my work day

Pros: I hosted a bachelorette party at the Intercontinental and it was great!! The staff was very accommodating and helped us with making sure all the girls were taken care of. The rooms were beautiful and spacious, and the hotel was extremely spacious.

He required every girl to have a key in their hand to get in, even though we just had one person per room have a key because we didn't think it was necessary. Cons: I booked this reservation months in advance for a large group, and still, upon check-in there was alot of miscommunication and confusion about the reservation (how many rooms, names on the reservation, etc). Staff was not warm or particularly helpful at all, there was an obvious lack of hospitably and willingness to help that you receive at most hotels. The hotel itself is average, its very old and outdated inside, the walls are thin so u hear conversations next door, and the rooms are small. There were very limited hours for the restaurant/lounge downstairs, and overall was just someolace you'd go to sleep and thats it. It really was just ok. Many other hotels in the area that offered more for the price. I wouldnt stay there again.

Pros: Loved the boutique vibe that the hotel has, it seems SF is lacking modern hotels that are similar to the Ace and plentiful of tacky hotels. The decor is very minimal, with concrete floors- it feels similar to a loft you would want to live in. The restaurant downstairs had a really great brunch and the staff were very friendly. The actual location is pretty central, so it's not that difficult to leave the touristy area of Union Square.
Cons: There wasn't a mention of the $45 (plus tax) for the valet. So that got a bit expensive. You also have to call 30 minutes ahead. The shower is also a lukewarm temperature. And a bit difficult to work with it being stuck.

Pros: Although the hotel is getting an exterior facelift, the facilities were great. They are affiliated with the Marriott and Marriott rewards program. There is a nice restaurant and bar adjacent to the lobby area. Our room was spacious and clean. Also, there was free wifi throughout the property, which didn't need a password, very convenient for jumping on and off of the network. There was a little doggy bowl at the front desk, so I would assume that they are pet friendly.
Cons: The bell desk and front desk were separated by a huge pillar which made it awkward as you could only see one of them at a time during check in/out. I'd imagine that this is very cumbersome during busy operations. maybe they will be addressing this issue during their remodel.

The air condition smelled like mildew and gave me a headache the following day. My roommate kept coughing the whole night which we suspect was due to the mildew coming out of the A/C vent. Bathroom floor was not cleaned. Found gross hair (and other too gross to mention) on the floor. Corners underneath the sink have dust balls. the bathroom toilet plastic seat was burned that it looked like you poured acid on it. I cannot believe they have not replaced it. The electric plug in the bathroom is not secured and about to fall off, the hair dryer would not turn on because of the faulty plug. (Again, really????) So disappointing as when I think of Hilton, I think safe, clean and decent...not the SF union square. Front desk was very unfriendly. No welcome or "enjoy your stay" greeting. He couldn't find our reservation. When I showed him the confirmation number, he gave me the look and said "oh that's hotel.com's"...whatever that meant. As if he was treating us 3rd class as we had not booked it directly with them. After a few minutes, he finally found our reservation. Again, very unpleasant.

Might not have been the hotel's fault maybe the booking site should've mentioned this, but still this is important information. Other complaint, probably more universal: really going to charge $14 to use hotel WiFi in one's room?! In 2015? First time rentimg hotel in San Francisco. Is this the norm? Free on lobby, though. Cons: The rooms are small, which I expected from an old building. The mattresses are awful (truly, truly awful), which I din't expect and the price is high for low amenities and low quality. Also, the valet parking is $60/day. When we checked out, they asked how our stay was and I told them the mattresses were really uncomfortable and they just sort of ignored that. They probably hear it all the time. I won't stay there again.

Cons: Location is in a difficult side of town. Hidden costs such as a $22.00 tax. We made them take it off. $59.00 for parking we were not told about the cost. Then our account was charged other amounts we had no idea what they were.

Pros: Overall the hotel was a good value. The bed was comfortable and the room was nice enough. The staff was courteous and helpful. The hotel did waive the additional $20 hotel fee when we informed them of our experience, which was nice.
Cons: There was a crack in the sink in the bathroom. The decor was a little gaudy. The worst part of the stay was having to listen to the people in the adjacent room scream and cry from 1:15am to 2:30am. We called the front desk a little after 1:30am and security did show up around 1:45am, but that didn't stop these people from continuing for another 45 minutes.

Pros: Beautiful art deco building and lobby are aged but maintained and give a romantic and intimate vibe. Central location, competitive rates, and onsite as well as nearby eating options are plusses. The staff were excellent and helpful, enhancing the atmosphere.

Pros: I typically stay at a large chain hotel but couldn't get one on a short notice - the price was right and I really enjoyed taking a break from the same large business hotels. The lobby takes you to another place in time and everyone was very friendly. The room was clean and quaint. My colleague was staying at the much larger Hilton right across the street and loved the Serrano when he stopped by. It was a nice break from the usual and well worth it!

Cons: Room wasn't that clean, dust balls and items under the beds. Beds very soft as mattresses were old. Bathrooms looked very tired and were cramped. Wallpaper scuffed up badly. Needed remodel. Also there are a lot of homeless in this area, I got woken up every morning in the early hours with neurotic screaming and shouting from people sleeping outside.

Pros: The lobby was beautiful, the staff was very helpful & accommodating. Easy check in, ready available bell staff & quick valet service. Checking in & out was a freeze. Our room was quaint & adorable. Comfortable beds & clean. Walking distance to union square, shopping & restaurant & entertainment! We will be using this hotel as our future staple!

Pros: I have stayed at the Hotel Whitcomb several times. It is very centrally located and is an excellent value for the money. It is an older hotel, but the owners have upgraded those parts of the rooms and hotel with which the guest regularly interacts. The rooms are clean and spacious. The beds are comfortable. The staff is courteous and attentive. The BART station is very close and the cable car terminus is about six blocks down Market Street. Again, it is a good value for the dollar.

Pros: I loved the location of the hotel. We went to a concert at the Bill Graham Auditorium and we were less than a 5 minute walk away.
Cons: i didn't like the confusion of the check-out and how you needed a reciept for check out in order to get your car out of valet. It was a process that valet didn't tell us about and picking our car up was a long process.

Cons: The rooms are small, even the beds are small and short. I hope you like it close and cozy with your partner. Our room smelled really bad like urin, so we changed the room. But even the other room had a wiered smell. I don't know how to describe it. The bathroom is o.k. the tub was old and yellow but you saw it was cleaned up. What made me really angry was the parking situation! I paied 38 dollars plus tax per night. I mean you are in San Francisco where you can see broken windows in cars all over the place. It is not like you can have your car on the street or somewhere else. Especially cause Market Street is not a good area at all. You shouldn't go out there at night. So for me it was much saver to place the car at the hotel but it was to expensive!

Pros: I stayed at the hotel the night before and after my trip to Burning Man. It has a great location, just a block from where I caught the Burner Express. It's also right on the subway and streetcar lines, and within walking distance to a lot of shopping. The hotel itself looks like an elegant hotel that has seen better times. The lobby is highly decorated in an old style and is beautiful. The hotel is very large. It was quite a walk to my room. The room itself was fine, but nothing too special. There is a Starbucks and a nice restaurant attached to the hotel.
Cons: When I arrived the first day in middle of the afternoon, they were a little understaffed, and at one point there was a about a 5 minute span that no one was at the desk to check people in.

Cons: The Kayak lists parking as an amenity. This is false. Ended up leaving the hotel immediately after getting my room keys from a jerk at the front desk and learning I could not park anywhere. Even when I attempted to pay for their valet parking which cost over 50% of the value of the room, I was denied service due to the fact that I have a pet in the car (a pet that would have stayed in the car over night). I'm now going through hoops and loops to get a refund (surprise! So far no and later a weak maybe), since the booking was made based on false information on the Kayak listing. Can you guys help facilitate the refund?

Pros: + THE STAFF: Every single staff member we encountered went above and beyond their duties to be very friendly and extremely helpful! + THE BEDS!!!: Oh my gosh those beds and those pillows were heavenly! + THE HISTORY: I initially chose to stay here because of the hotel's great history, but I was thrilled to see that on the Mezzanine level they actually have a "Hall of History" with wonderful artifacts from the Whitcomb's heyday along with a couple of glass cabinets throughout the lobby area with even more old artifacts. There is also an art gallery dedicated to a couple of the local theaters/acts with pictures etc, that date from the early Jazz age to around WW2. The Hotel Whitcomb served as the City Hall after the 1906 earthquake while the original one was being rebuilt, and I read that there are still jail cells that in the basement that you can see if you ask, but unfortunately I didn't have time to do that this time but I'll be sure to ask next time because I will definitely be coming back
