Cons: At Reservation, called the 800 number. I was told they only had two suites available. No rooms. Two minutes later, I went on Kayak and booked two rooms with no issue. Service was in no way exceptional. It was a little irritating that bell desk couldn't get cab. Food/bar is terrible Surcharge for internet access is ludicrous

Cons: In-room dining is awful. I had breakfast twice, and was severely disappointed at the outrageous price for the poor, poor quality of every aspect of the food--coffee is burnt and thick like mud, toast burnt, side vegetables unbelievably expensive with NO quality. The fresh orange juice is good. And that's it. Otherwise, the hotel is just wonderful.

Cons: The walls are quite thin, and because the toilets are vacuum toilets, they are louder than average toilets, and you can hear everyone flushing. The bathroom door is also a stylish (but not noise-blocking) glass barn door, so if you are sharing the room with someone, they will hear everything that is happening in the bathroom. There is a $25 fee to use the gym and pool, which I was not aware of when I booked the room.

Pros: I stayed at the Nikko Hotel for one night during the Nike Women's Half Marathon. Not only was a beautiful, and luxurious hotel but it was also in the perfect location in Union Square for the Nike Women's Half Marathon and Expotique. The customer service was phenomenal and they even extended check out for NWM participants. This was great because it enabled us to shower before our journey home. Thank you Nikko Hotel for such top notch accommodations! I will definitely stay here again next year!

Cons: The hotel presents itself to be a resort facility and charges accordingly including a resort fee but there are few if any resort features to it. There is no pool or hot tub no view of any sort except going outside, no breakfast available. The rooms are small and it shows that they have been carved out of an old apartment (or office) complex. They have expresso machines in the rooms in place of coffee makers we found them difficult to get them to work.

No hassle when we went around SF downtown and back. It is also within the activities from the pier. It is far enough from the main noise but near enough for a few minutes walk. Very accessible to all the great restaurants and activities around the area.

I spent a week at Hotel Zelos, and had a great stay. The staff was always super-friendly at all hours of the day, the rooms were clean and comfy, and the location was pretty convenient. There are nearby grocery/convenience stores, restaurants, and good proximity to the Embarcadero for waterfront runs. The rooms were pretty "stock" hotel rooms, but they were clean, the linens and towels were good quality, and the bed was nice. If you're sensitive to noise, I had a room over the front entrance, and you could definitely hear traffic and sirens, but I think that's just part of staying in a dense city. Definitely nothing the hotel can really do much about! I would have liked breakfast hours at the restaurant (7-10) to start a little earlier, but the one meal I ate there was tasty (if a bit expensive). Overall, I had a great stay, and would happily return on a future visit.

It is also very close to a BART station so getting there from the airport is very easy. San Francisco is a surprisingly easy city to drive in as well, though parking is very expensive.

Pros: The service at the San Francisco Palomar was excellent. The front desk staff and doormen deserve top marks. They were helpful in every circumstance from procuring a taxi to giving directions or making suggestions regarding nearby attractions and walking distances. The hotel was clean, the restaurant was superb....fantastic breakfast! And the wait staff was superior. We would stay here again in a heartbeat and look forward to that happening in the near future. Hats off to the Palomar staff!!!!!!!

I have stayed in other SF hotels in the past and Hotel Zelos is a nice addition to the city. City hotel rooms can sometimes be small but the rooms at Zelos are very spacious! I also would like to say thank you for an overall smooth and fun experience! From booking on line with Kayak to speaking directly with the hotel, to checking in & out, everyone was super friendly and consistently would go out of their way to be helpful.

Then the confusion in the garage, mind you I thought I lost my ticket to return however I unpacked it when I arrived back home this evening. There was a problem between the hand written sign in log from the valet and the printed report from the front desk and the hotel's portion of valet claim check system also did not work. I retrieved my vehicle because I brought the only two matching keys and I have matching handmade key chains attached. Breakfast table with two nice chairs rather than a rolling office chair. That was weird. But it was also SF PRIDE weekend so who cares!

Pros: I liked that we were able to find a great place on such short notice. The Manager on Duty, I think her name was Susan, was very helpful after one of the reservation agent accidentally mixed up our checkout time- and another Agent Brandon wasn't very kind to us. I ate most of my meals at the hotel, breakfast lunch and dinner- and I had three different bartender/servers during my stay that were all so very pleasant. Some even gave me directions to buy a hoodie at a nearby store because I didn't realize it would be colder there this time of year still. And the chef made me an awesome salad when I wanted to exchange tuna for chicken on the salad that comes with Lemon Dressing- it was absolutely fantastic. I highly recommend this substitution as the combination of greens and dressing go amazing with Tuna! It will cost you 2 dollars more as Tuna is more expensive (rightfully so) but it I ate the entire thing. I couldn't stop myself.

I couldn't tell what time of day it was, kind of like that feeling you get when you are in a Vegas Casino. Granted we got a deal on the cost of the room, so we're not complaining too much but the actual cost of the rooms are very expensive and then to add over $150 of addtional fees when checking out is a little crazy. But, overall, we would be willing to stay here in the future, if we make it to the west coast again.

Pros: Very luxurious and clean. The staff was friendly and helpful, especially the management. When things went wrong, they were accommodating to benefit me for the inconveniences.
Cons: Upon checking in, they didn't have our room available until the next day. Not sure how that even happens, but after talking to the manager, he miraculously was able to get our room. I had an allergic reaction to the laundry detergent they use on the bed sheets and my eyes swelled up. I was told that if you have allergies, you need to call in advance to make sure they wash the bedding with hyper-allergenic detergent (they normally use Dawn). For the inconveniences, they did comp me my room service.

Pros: I originally was trying to book this hotel via the QANTAS website however they had problems, so I rang the hotel direct and they were most helpful. Not only did they book me in, but they beat the original price and converted it for me to $AUD for my small brain. I drove to SFO from LAX - on arrival bell hop service was excellent, didn't miss any bags or jackets that were in my car. Stayed in the main building - Fairmont Queen room Clean and tidy Free WiFi BathTub Excellent staff Late checkout Food selection and room service Tonga room is a must see Location very central to anywhere you'd like to be in SFO

The refurbished rooms are good, but the particular room I was in the door didn't fully open because the wall gets in the way, so for room service the trolley couldn't be wheeled in, food had to be carried in from the door, and there wasn't really any table to put the food on, only the writing desk or the fold out mini bar. Pros: Great place to stay if you want to be treated like royalty at a very reasonable price. We highly recommend staying here and also having drinks at the Top of the Mark. Excellent views of the "city by the bay" and the music and service is awesome! Do yourself a favor and stay here. We do every year for almost 20 years. You won't regret it!

Cons: I booked this reservation months in advance for a large group, and still, upon check-in there was alot of miscommunication and confusion about the reservation (how many rooms, names on the reservation, etc). Staff was not warm or particularly helpful at all, there was an obvious lack of hospitably and willingness to help that you receive at most hotels. The hotel itself is average, its very old and outdated inside, the walls are thin so u hear conversations next door, and the rooms are small. There were very limited hours for the restaurant/lounge downstairs, and overall was just someolace you'd go to sleep and thats it. It really was just ok. Many other hotels in the area that offered more for the price. I wouldnt stay there again.

The decor is very minimal, with concrete floors- it feels similar to a loft you would want to live in. The restaurant downstairs had a really great brunch and the staff were very friendly. The actual location is pretty central, so it's not that difficult to leave the touristy area of Union Square.
Cons: There wasn't a mention of the $45 (plus tax) for the valet. So that got a bit expensive. You also have to call 30 minutes ahead. The shower is also a lukewarm temperature. And a bit difficult to work with it being stuck.

That may not have been as much of an issue on a higher floor, though. Also, $50 for one night of parking!? That's half of what the room cost!

Cons: But they were so understaffed. We checked in at 430pm and did not receive our crib for the baby until close to 10pm! We had to call them once to remind and I had to remind them at the counter when I came back from the store. We also added some items for them to bring up like baby shampoo and toothpaste, etc. when housekeeping came up at 930pm, he only brought the small items. I asked about the pack and play and he said they never told him. I assumed he was going to ring our toothpaste and the bedding for the baby, no. They didn't tell him about the toothpaste either!!!!! He had to come back twice!!! It was late and waaaaay past the kids bedtime. Sooooo annoying. The ladies at the counter made it seem like they would take care of everything but they didn't. One of them even asked me about the crib check in. Very disappointed.

Cons: I requested the earliest possible check in time, and after my flight landed on the day of check in, the Hotel text me and said that I couldn't check in until after 3pm. I didn't have a rental car so I had to drag my luggage around downtown SF. I also requested to have a room with a view and a room on the highest floor possible. I was put on the 3rd floor with a window facing the hotels interior roof top. Zero view. There were large cobwebs above the bathroom door frame, the top sheet of my bed was yellowed on the underside and there were a few small stain marks on the sheets that were either wine, juice, or blood. King size bed was not comfortable at all. I HATE the hotels TV/entertainment system. The remote has a rollerball to control a mouse on the screen that is so small you can't read it unless you are sitting in the chair at the desk. Least user-friendly system I've ever used in a hotel. It's like you are watching tv through the computer's "tv application". Really strange.

Pros: The hotel was clean and convenient to getting around the city, especially the piers and fidi, which is why we chose it. The neighborhood is very touristy, which means the restaurants aren't great, nor is the shopping, but it's close to some tourist attractions if that's the purpose of your visit. The outdoor pool and spa were an added bonus! The hotel also offered laundry machines on each floor which was nice (though detergent should be included in the cost!). The room itself was very clean, comfortable and modern. There were USB plugs and big, bright windows as well as an ottoman for lounging while working. The included wifi isn't super fast, but can be upgraded if needed.
Cons: Some of the desk staff was less knowledgeable and friendly than I would have expected, but others were great and made up for it!

Pros: Although the hotel is getting an exterior facelift, the facilities were great. They are affiliated with the Marriott and Marriott rewards program. There is a nice restaurant and bar adjacent to the lobby area. Our room was spacious and clean. Also, there was free wifi throughout the property, which didn't need a password, very convenient for jumping on and off of the network. There was a little doggy bowl at the front desk, so I would assume that they are pet friendly.
Cons: The bell desk and front desk were separated by a huge pillar which made it awkward as you could only see one of them at a time during check in/out. I'd imagine that this is very cumbersome during busy operations. maybe they will be addressing this issue during their remodel.

The room itself was not luxurious by any means. We felt that it could get away with anything because it was right downtown. The long lines for both check in and the "continental breakfast" were not convenient.

Pros: Overall the hotel was a good value. The bed was comfortable and the room was nice enough. The staff was courteous and helpful. The hotel did waive the additional $20 hotel fee when we informed them of our experience, which was nice.

The worst part of the stay was having to listen to the people in the adjacent room scream and cry from 1:15am to 2:30am. We called the front desk a little after 1:30am and security did show up around 1:45am, but that didn't stop these people from continuing for another 45 minutes.

Cons: The rooms are small, which I expected from an old building. The mattresses are awful (truly, truly awful), which I din't expect and the price is high for low amenities and low quality. Also, the valet parking is $60/day. When we checked out, they asked how our stay was and I told them the mattresses were really uncomfortable and they just sort of ignored that. They probably hear it all the time. I won't stay there again.

Pros: I typically stay at a large chain hotel but couldn't get one on a short notice - the price was right and I really enjoyed taking a break from the same large business hotels. The lobby takes you to another place in time and everyone was very friendly. The room was clean and quaint. My colleague was staying at the much larger Hilton right across the street and loved the Serrano when he stopped by. It was a nice break from the usual and well worth it!

Cons: The hotel is surrounded by a large homeless population right outside. Parking is an additional $51 a day that was not disclosed at booking. The WiFi “package” which is a mandatory fee of $35 a night was also not disclosed. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Pros: + THE STAFF: Every single staff member we encountered went above and beyond their duties to be very friendly and extremely helpful! + THE BEDS!!!: Oh my gosh those beds and those pillows were heavenly! + THE HISTORY: I initially chose to stay here because of the hotel's great history, but I was thrilled to see that on the Mezzanine level they actually have a "Hall of History" with wonderful artifacts from the Whitcomb's heyday along with a couple of glass cabinets throughout the lobby area with even more old artifacts. There is also an art gallery dedicated to a couple of the local theaters/acts with pictures etc, that date from the early Jazz age to around WW2. The Hotel Whitcomb served as the City Hall after the 1906 earthquake while the original one was being rebuilt, and I read that there are still jail cells that in the basement that you can see if you ask, but unfortunately I didn't have time to do that this time but I'll be sure to ask next time because I will definitely be coming back

Pros: Almost nothing. The lobby was pretty I guess. A few members of the staff made it bearable.
Cons: Incredibly rude manager and staff. Had an issue at check in and was met with aggression and condescension. There is literally nothing that makes this hotel stand out. Also watch out for this Kayak contract, you can end up with no room and no refund if you're not careful. Would not recommend, probably won't be booking through this service for a hotel again.

Pros: I loved the heritage features of this hotel. Beautiful wood mouldings, marble and crystal light fixtures make you feel like you've stepped back in time. The hotel rooms are simple, but nicely appointed. This hotel was good value for money. It is a 3 star hotel and I think it was very nice for a 3 star hotel, better than most, but if you are looking for 4 or 5 star hotel features and amenities then this probably isn't the hotel for you.
Cons: Amenities are a bit limited, no room service, no mini fridge or coffee maker, no pool. Pay per view movies weren't working during our stay, but we weren't there to watch movies so it wasn't a big issue. The hotel is in a bit of a rough area, but I still felt safe on the streets. No one bothered me. A short walk or tram ride takes you to Union Square and beyond to the Piers and Fisherman's Wharf, so you are close to better areas and it's very central.

Pros: It is a historic hotel, so that is charming.
Cons: The rooms are small, even the beds are small and short. I hope you like it close and cozy with your partner. Our room smelled really bad like urin, so we changed the room. But even the other room had a wiered smell. I don't know how to describe it. The bathroom is o.k. the tub was old and yellow but you saw it was cleaned up. What made me really angry was the parking situation! I paied 38 dollars plus tax per night. I mean you are in San Francisco where you can see broken windows in cars all over the place. It is not like you can have your car on the street or somewhere else. Especially cause Market Street is not a good area at all. You shouldn't go out there at night. So for me it was much saver to place the car at the hotel but it was to expensive!

Pros: I stayed at the hotel the night before and after my trip to Burning Man. It has a great location, just a block from where I caught the Burner Express. It's also right on the subway and streetcar lines, and within walking distance to a lot of shopping. The hotel itself looks like an elegant hotel that has seen better times. The lobby is highly decorated in an old style and is beautiful. The hotel is very large. It was quite a walk to my room. The room itself was fine, but nothing too special. There is a Starbucks and a nice restaurant attached to the hotel.
Cons: When I arrived the first day in middle of the afternoon, they were a little understaffed, and at one point there was a about a 5 minute span that no one was at the desk to check people in.

Pros: Yes it was an old building... We were ready for that... They seem to be doing the best they can with the building at hand. Our room was clean. Staff wasn't rude just wasn't pleasant either.

Cons: The Kayak lists parking as an amenity. This is false. Ended up leaving the hotel immediately after getting my room keys from a jerk at the front desk and learning I could not park anywhere. Even when I attempted to pay for their valet parking which cost over 50% of the value of the room, I was denied service due to the fact that I have a pet in the car (a pet that would have stayed in the car over night). I'm now going through hoops and loops to get a refund (surprise! So far no and later a weak maybe), since the booking was made based on false information on the Kayak listing. Can you guys help facilitate the refund?

Cons: One person in front desk at any time - lineup is long. Staff is abrupt and rude. Neighbourhood is scary and dangerous. No food - only Starbucks, no restaurant (it looks like it went out of business). Cons: My room was not clean, it had a previous occupant's dirty laundry and drug paraphernalia under the bed. Uncomfortable mattress. Desk staff were pretty rude to each other and to hotel guests. When I handed in a comment card at the end of my stay, the receptionist put it in a pile of paper on top of the copier and said "I hope they read it." All of this would have been fine for a cheap hotel in the city, but this was not a cheap hotel.

Pros: The hotel was in a central location, close to everything and easy to get an Uber. The free high-speed internet was definitely a plus.
Cons: The bed was very uncomfortable and very disappointing. The hotel was situated in a sketchy party of town. I also saw some staff members get very impatient with someone whose English was clearly not their first language when asking for their last name a few times because they didn't initially understand the question.

Pros: I liked that it was close to the muni which made travel easy. The rooms were nice enough and comfortable. It was a quiet hotel and historic restorations were nice.
Cons: I did not like the location being in the tenderloin for the price. A block in any direction would make ty out feel unsafe. Especially at night. There was construction immediately next door which no site listed and they started at 7am on a Saturday morning. The staff could have been more courteous and informative. The ac stopped working after the second night.

Pros: Location. Easy approach from the south. Close proximity to public transport (BART and MUNI entrance is a steps from the front door). Nice bed and bedding. Old school decor and large rooms. Helpful staff though some weren't particularly friendly.

Pros: The location is great, the hotel is really really nice and for a good value. Nice staff and management. The only complaint is that there is almost no steer parking because of the location and hotel parking is valet for $43/day when we went. Bit pricey I think for a hotel guest to pay, but the valet staff was always helpful and available.

Pros: We were amazed at the design, this hotel is 103 years old and we loved the history. The staff were very friendly and warm. The rooms are small which is due to the age of the hotel, but the room was very clean and smelled wonderful.

Pros: The location is great. Couldn't be closer to the BART, so if you're coming or going to SFO this is super convenient. Market St is pretty happening, so that's fun. The bed was comfy. The place across the street has an unbelievably good breakfast burrito- yum!
Cons: It's historic, but rather stodgy. My cell phone didn't have service, and the wifi is kind of pain. WiFi always eventually worked. Market St can get a bit adventurous, so at night you might want to walk in pairs.

Pros: I loved the location of the hotel. We went to a concert at the Bill Graham Auditorium and we were less than a 5 minute walk away.
Cons: i didn't like the confusion of the check-out and how you needed a reciept for check out in order to get your car out of valet. It was a process that valet didn't tell us about and picking our car up was a long process.
