I had breakfast twice, and was severely disappointed at the outrageous price for the poor, poor quality of every aspect of the food--coffee is burnt and thick like mud, toast burnt, side vegetables unbelievably expensive with NO quality. The fresh orange juice is good. And that's it. Otherwise, the hotel is just wonderful.

Pros: **keep in mind, review is for guests who didn't park at all** Shower is by far the best of the hotels I have stayed at. The room was clean (but small, true to San Fran /Japanese style). Bed was also very comfortable. TV was small (~42 inches) but had a nice stand that could be angled alnost 180 degrees. Cleaning staff was very thorough and even organized our toilet trees for us that we left on the sink (I thought this was cool, others may see it differently). Overall clean and fancy facilities, nice staff. Good location in reference to Union Square.
Cons: We witnessed someone getting beat up by at least 4 individuals in an ally right across the street from the hotel. We still didn't feel unsafe in the hotel or around San Francisco, but maybe we should have? Other hotels wouldn't be immune to this problem either (to my best estimate). $6 waters in the room. No prices in the gift shop (yes I can afford it, but maybe I don't get the chips for $2.5 and just go for the $3.50 water instead or go to Starbucks that is attached to the hotel for $2 waters).

Pros: I stayed at the Nikko Hotel for one night during the Nike Women's Half Marathon. Not only was a beautiful, and luxurious hotel but it was also in the perfect location in Union Square for the Nike Women's Half Marathon and Expotique. The customer service was phenomenal and they even extended check out for NWM participants. This was great because it enabled us to shower before our journey home. Thank you Nikko Hotel for such top notch accommodations! I will definitely stay here again next year!

Pros: I enjoyed the hotel staff. What a wonder job the staff performs to ensure my stay was comfortable and one to remember. In most cases, when I requested services the response time was quick and expedient. If I had a question, the staff went well above my expectations to find a solution or answer. Stay here if you want to just run in auto-pilot and allow the staff of Nikko to do the rest.

Cons: The walls are quite thin, and because the toilets are vacuum toilets, they are louder than average toilets, and you can hear everyone flushing. The bathroom door is also a stylish (but not noise-blocking) glass barn door, so if you are sharing the room with someone, they will hear everything that is happening in the bathroom. There is a $25 fee to use the gym and pool, which I was not aware of when I booked the room.

Pros: I liked that we were able to find a great place on such short notice. The Manager on Duty, I think her name was Susan, was very helpful after one of the reservation agent accidentally mixed up our checkout time- and another Agent Brandon wasn't very kind to us. I ate most of my meals at the hotel, breakfast lunch and dinner- and I had three different bartender/servers during my stay that were all so very pleasant. Some even gave me directions to buy a hoodie at a nearby store because I didn't realize it would be colder there this time of year still. And the chef made me an awesome salad when I wanted to exchange tuna for chicken on the salad that comes with Lemon Dressing- it was absolutely fantastic. I highly recommend this substitution as the combination of greens and dressing go amazing with Tuna! It will cost you 2 dollars more as Tuna is more expensive (rightfully so) but it I ate the entire thing. I couldn't stop myself.

Cons: The hotel presents itself to be a resort facility and charges accordingly including a resort fee but there are few if any resort features to it. There is no pool or hot tub no view of any sort except going outside, no breakfast available. The rooms are small and it shows that they have been carved out of an old apartment (or office) complex. They have expresso machines in the rooms in place of coffee makers we found them difficult to get them to work.

Pros: The room has a very hip vibe that is a hit with my kids ages 12-17. They love it! The hotel is just a block away from the cable car when we came back from a night at the downtown area. No hassle when we went around SF downtown and back. It is also within the activities from the pier. It is far enough from the main noise but near enough for a few minutes walk. Very accessible to all the great restaurants and activities around the area.

Pros: Very luxurious and clean. The staff was friendly and helpful, especially the management. When things went wrong, they were accommodating to benefit me for the inconveniences.
Cons: Upon checking in, they didn't have our room available until the next day. Not sure how that even happens, but after talking to the manager, he miraculously was able to get our room. I had an allergic reaction to the laundry detergent they use on the bed sheets and my eyes swelled up. I was told that if you have allergies, you need to call in advance to make sure they wash the bedding with hyper-allergenic detergent (they normally use Dawn). For the inconveniences, they did comp me my room service.

I also noticed a lack of the sort of amenities one might expect in a luxury hotel of this caliber—no bathrobes, WiFi was an extra charge, etc. Hard not to feel a little nickel-and-dimed which didn’t seem in keeping with the luxury atmosphere.

Pros: I originally was trying to book this hotel via the QANTAS website however they had problems, so I rang the hotel direct and they were most helpful. Not only did they book me in, but they beat the original price and converted it for me to $AUD for my small brain. I drove to SFO from LAX - on arrival bell hop service was excellent, didn't miss any bags or jackets that were in my car. Stayed in the main building - Fairmont Queen room Clean and tidy Free WiFi BathTub Excellent staff Late checkout Food selection and room service Tonga room is a must see Location very central to anywhere you'd like to be in SFO

The refurbished rooms are good, but the particular room I was in the door didn't fully open because the wall gets in the way, so for room service the trolley couldn't be wheeled in, food had to be carried in from the door, and there wasn't really any table to put the food on, only the writing desk or the fold out mini bar. I had to call for slippers

Pros: If you're looking for convenience and a great location with amazing customer service, pay the extra cash and stay at the the Marriott Marquis. The convenience and hospitality here was amazing. I felt like I was treated like a VIP while staying in a basic room. Housekeeping was gracious, and welcoming coming and going every single day. Anytime I needed the smallest of things they were delivered promptly (toothpaste, towels, silverware, soaps, etc). I needed some mail delivered, they took it for me. Anytime my girlfriend and I needed directions or suggestions on great places to go the information desk were our saviors. VERY knowledgeable about the entirety of San Fran. The 55th floor bar has a great view of the city, the bartender was also great. There is a little convenient store as well as Starbucks located on the main floor for convenience. Great hotel!

Cons: They tried to steal my luggage when I first came in, took them over 4 hours to bring my stuff up. I said enough of this bs and went to go down myself and get all my stuff to find it hiding in a room away from everyone else while the guy at the front was telling me "it'll be there shortly were a little backed up". Then to top it all off I find $35 of charges from the hotel of stuff I never used. I've never been so disrespected by a hotel in my life. Shady workers I highly recommend you don't stay here.

I have stayed in other SF hotels in the past and Hotel Zelos is a nice addition to the city. City hotel rooms can sometimes be small but the rooms at Zelos are very spacious! I also would like to say thank you for an overall smooth and fun experience! From booking on line with Kayak to speaking directly with the hotel, to checking in & out, everyone was super friendly and consistently would go out of their way to be helpful.

Then the confusion in the garage, mind you I thought I lost my ticket to return however I unpacked it when I arrived back home this evening. There was a problem between the hand written sign in log from the valet and the printed report from the front desk and the hotel's portion of valet claim check system also did not work. I retrieved my vehicle because I brought the only two matching keys and I have matching handmade key chains attached. Breakfast table with two nice chairs rather than a rolling office chair. That was weird. But it was also SF PRIDE weekend so who cares!

They were helpful in every circumstance from procuring a taxi to giving directions or making suggestions regarding nearby attractions and walking distances. The hotel was clean, the restaurant was superb....fantastic breakfast! And the wait staff was superior. We would stay here again in a heartbeat and look forward to that happening in the near future. Staff was not warm or particularly helpful at all, there was an obvious lack of hospitably and willingness to help that you receive at most hotels. The hotel itself is average, its very old and outdated inside, the walls are thin so u hear conversations next door, and the rooms are small. There were very limited hours for the restaurant/lounge downstairs, and overall was just someolace you'd go to sleep and thats it. It really was just ok. Many other hotels in the area that offered more for the price. I wouldnt stay there again.

Pros: Loved the boutique vibe that the hotel has, it seems SF is lacking modern hotels that are similar to the Ace and plentiful of tacky hotels. The decor is very minimal, with concrete floors- it feels similar to a loft you would want to live in. The restaurant downstairs had a really great brunch and the staff were very friendly. The actual location is pretty central, so it's not that difficult to leave the touristy area of Union Square.
Cons: There wasn't a mention of the $45 (plus tax) for the valet. So that got a bit expensive. You also have to call 30 minutes ahead. The shower is also a lukewarm temperature. And a bit difficult to work with it being stuck.

Pros: Although the hotel is getting an exterior facelift, the facilities were great. They are affiliated with the Marriott and Marriott rewards program. There is a nice restaurant and bar adjacent to the lobby area. Our room was spacious and clean. Also, there was free wifi throughout the property, which didn't need a password, very convenient for jumping on and off of the network. There was a little doggy bowl at the front desk, so I would assume that they are pet friendly.
Cons: The bell desk and front desk were separated by a huge pillar which made it awkward as you could only see one of them at a time during check in/out. I'd imagine that this is very cumbersome during busy operations. maybe they will be addressing this issue during their remodel.

Cons: The bed was rock hard. I asked the front desk for a pad, they didn't have one but props to housekeeping for trying; they put a comforter under the sheets which helped some. It just didn't feel like the high end hotel it advertises as.

The air condition smelled like mildew and gave me a headache the following day. My roommate kept coughing the whole night which we suspect was due to the mildew coming out of the A/C vent. Bathroom floor was not cleaned. Found gross hair (and other too gross to mention) on the floor. Corners underneath the sink have dust balls. the bathroom toilet plastic seat was burned that it looked like you poured acid on it. I cannot believe they have not replaced it. The electric plug in the bathroom is not secured and about to fall off, the hair dryer would not turn on because of the faulty plug. (Again, really????) So disappointing as when I think of Hilton, I think safe, clean and decent...not the SF union square. Front desk was very unfriendly. No welcome or "enjoy your stay" greeting. He couldn't find our reservation. When I showed him the confirmation number, he gave me the look and said "oh that's hotel.com's"...whatever that meant. As if he was treating us 3rd class as we had not booked it directly with them. After a few minutes, he finally found our reservation. Again, very unpleasant.

Also i wish the website had mentioned the $50 a day for parking[we were in town for 24 hours.] This might have been the going rate for Fisherman's Wharf but this would've made the difference between this place and a place nearly $40-60 cheaper: longer walk to piers but saving $40-50/night is a big difference. Might not have been the hotel's fault maybe the booking site should've mentioned this, but still this is important information. Other complaint, probably more universal: really going to charge $14 to use hotel WiFi in one's room?! In 2015? First time rentimg hotel in San Francisco. Is this the norm? Free on lobby, though. Very not cool.

Also, the valet parking is $60/day. When we checked out, they asked how our stay was and I told them the mattresses were really uncomfortable and they just sort of ignored that. The lobby takes you to another place in time and everyone was very friendly. The room was clean and quaint. My colleague was staying at the much larger Hilton right across the street and loved the Serrano when he stopped by. It was a nice break from the usual and well worth it!

Cons: I booked via kayak and which routed me via priceline. I paid extra for a queen bed with a bayview on a premium floor. However when I got to the hotel they said there is no such combination only the king beds have that combination. They either had a city view on a premium floor or a bay view on a low floor - where you could not see the bay. After some negotiating I settled on a double bed on the 18th floor with a bayview. Be careful when booking thru third party sites, it seems the descriptions are misleading.

Pros: Beds were very comfortable and clean!! It was a very pleasant stay and I would highly recommend it! Danny the front desk man was great and so was Paul at the front bar area.
Cons: Nothing hotel wise. Only issue was a weirdness from the back bar area. Felt I was being monitored and made me feel uncomfortable.

Cons: For such an expensive stay, there were few amenities. Traveling with an infant, it was very inconvenient not to have a fridge or microwave in the room. We ended up ordering a bottle warmer from Amazon Now because there was no other way to warm his bottle. Also, the internet connectivity was poor. The parking fee was very high. .

Pros: The lobby was beautiful, the staff was very helpful & accommodating. Easy check in, ready available bell staff & quick valet service. Checking in & out was a freeze. Our room was quaint & adorable. Comfortable beds & clean. Walking distance to union square, shopping & restaurant & entertainment! We will be using this hotel as our future staple!

Pros: I have stayed at the Hotel Whitcomb several times. It is very centrally located and is an excellent value for the money. It is an older hotel, but the owners have upgraded those parts of the rooms and hotel with which the guest regularly interacts. The rooms are clean and spacious. The beds are comfortable. The staff is courteous and attentive. The BART station is very close and the cable car terminus is about six blocks down Market Street. Again, it is a good value for the dollar.

Pros: I loved the location of the hotel. We went to a concert at the Bill Graham Auditorium and we were less than a 5 minute walk away.
Cons: i didn't like the confusion of the check-out and how you needed a reciept for check out in order to get your car out of valet. It was a process that valet didn't tell us about and picking our car up was a long process.

No food - only Starbucks, no restaurant (it looks like it went out of business). Pros: The hotel was in a central location, close to everything and easy to get an Uber. The free high-speed internet was definitely a plus.
Cons: The bed was very uncomfortable and very disappointing. The hotel was situated in a sketchy party of town. I also saw some staff members get very impatient with someone whose English was clearly not their first language when asking for their last name a few times because they didn't initially understand the question.

Cons: The rooms are small, even the beds are small and short. I hope you like it close and cozy with your partner. Our room smelled really bad like urin, so we changed the room. But even the other room had a wiered smell. I don't know how to describe it. The bathroom is o.k. the tub was old and yellow but you saw it was cleaned up. What made me really angry was the parking situation! I paied 38 dollars plus tax per night. I mean you are in San Francisco where you can see broken windows in cars all over the place. It is not like you can have your car on the street or somewhere else. Especially cause Market Street is not a good area at all. You shouldn't go out there at night. So for me it was much saver to place the car at the hotel but it was to expensive!

Pros: I stayed at the hotel the night before and after my trip to Burning Man. It has a great location, just a block from where I caught the Burner Express. It's also right on the subway and streetcar lines, and within walking distance to a lot of shopping. The hotel itself looks like an elegant hotel that has seen better times. The lobby is highly decorated in an old style and is beautiful. The hotel is very large. It was quite a walk to my room. The room itself was fine, but nothing too special. There is a Starbucks and a nice restaurant attached to the hotel.
Cons: When I arrived the first day in middle of the afternoon, they were a little understaffed, and at one point there was a about a 5 minute span that no one was at the desk to check people in.

Cons: The Kayak lists parking as an amenity. This is false. Ended up leaving the hotel immediately after getting my room keys from a jerk at the front desk and learning I could not park anywhere. Even when I attempted to pay for their valet parking which cost over 50% of the value of the room, I was denied service due to the fact that I have a pet in the car (a pet that would have stayed in the car over night). I'm now going through hoops and loops to get a refund (surprise! So far no and later a weak maybe), since the booking was made based on false information on the Kayak listing. Can you guys help facilitate the refund?

Pros: + THE STAFF: Every single staff member we encountered went above and beyond their duties to be very friendly and extremely helpful! + THE BEDS!!!: Oh my gosh those beds and those pillows were heavenly! + THE HISTORY: I initially chose to stay here because of the hotel's great history, but I was thrilled to see that on the Mezzanine level they actually have a "Hall of History" with wonderful artifacts from the Whitcomb's heyday along with a couple of glass cabinets throughout the lobby area with even more old artifacts. There is also an art gallery dedicated to a couple of the local theaters/acts with pictures etc, that date from the early Jazz age to around WW2. The Hotel Whitcomb served as the City Hall after the 1906 earthquake while the original one was being rebuilt, and I read that there are still jail cells that in the basement that you can see if you ask, but unfortunately I didn't have time to do that this time but I'll be sure to ask next time because I will definitely be coming back

Pros: I liked that it was close to the muni which made travel easy. The rooms were nice enough and comfortable. It was a quiet hotel and historic restorations were nice.
Cons: I did not like the location being in the tenderloin for the price. A block in any direction would make ty out feel unsafe. Especially at night. There was construction immediately next door which no site listed and they started at 7am on a Saturday morning. The staff could have been more courteous and informative. The ac stopped working after the second night.

The only complaint is that there is almost no steer parking because of the location and hotel parking is valet for $43/day when we went. Bit pricey I think for a hotel guest to pay, but the valet staff was always helpful and available.

Cons: No sound proofing. So if you're next to neighbors who are just a bit louder than normal, you would hear them. The place looks out dated. There is no room service. Reception wasn't very approachable. Not very friendly.
