Bad. They ended charging me for insurance that I rejected. After claiming it and providing evidence of coverage ACE declined to reimburse the charges.

The experience felt like dealing with a fly-by-night company. I have rented cars all over the United States and around the world (Europe, Southeast Asia, Middle East) and the pickup at Ace was the most difficult. The burden of proof of insurance was on me, which caused a major delay. I have full coverage but they wouldn’t take my word for it, I had to PROVE it. Otherwise you’re forced to pay hundreds of dollars for their insurance. I had to contact my insurance company on a Saturday morning to get a certificate emailed to me. Also, the $9.95 charge per day for an EZ-Pass transponder is over the top, total price gouging of a captive market. I’m gritting my teeth at what the total toll and transponder charge will be, which you don’t receive for some time. I will expect a full breakdown of all fees but am not confident it will be clear and concise. I left feeling like the NJ/NY area is one big ripoff. I would not rent with this company again.

Good experience. The location is definitely in a "downtown" location near the Brooklyn Bridge, which made getting to the location and returning the car a challenge, but they company was easy to work with. I was upgraded, which was a nice surprise and perk. I recommend them!

The counter agent at Ace Rent a Car misled me into paying for unnecessary insurance. I had already purchased full collision protection through KAYAK for $80 total. Upon pickup, the agent aggressively insisted that my policy was invalid and instructed me to cancel it, promising a full refund, while forcing me to take their in-house coverage at $50/day ($200 total). I was coerced into paying $200 under false pretenses. I demand a full refund for this forced upsell.

No sooner than we drove off the lot we had to turn back around because we saw the light on the dashboard showing that one of the tires was nearly flat. We turned back around and when I went back in and told them that one of the tires was flat, there was no apology, no “I’m so sorry for the inconvenience”. The employee said nothing, she just went outside and got another car for us.

Long wait times at counter, not enough employees, and arcane process. Needing to show a full declarations page as proof of insurance, is crazy obsessive, and intentionally difficult.
