Don’t get a vehicle bigger than what is needed. Streets can be narrow, heavy traffic and parking garages are tight. Finally felt comfortable in our diesel van after 2000 miles.

If you are arriving on a domestic flight, the hire car desks can be found in the Arrival Hall for Terminals 2 and 3.
  • As a tourist in Sydney, there’s no reason to be stuck relying on public transportation, if you rent a car the whole region becomes your oyster. For instance, Manly Beach, Blue Mountains National Park, and Royal National Park are just some of the famed locales surrounding Sydney that are easily accessible by car.
  • Travelers new to Australia should watch out for Transit Lanes. Transit Lanes, often designated as T2 or T3, are Australia’s equivalent to a carpool lane, meaning that you must have either 2 or 3 people in your car to use the lane. Transit Lanes are mostly seen on highways, and families should be sure to take advantage of them.
  • Sydney’s morning rush hour normally ranges from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. while the evening rush hour can start as early as 2:30 p.m. and will often last all the way till 7:00 p.m. The extended evening rush hour is due in part to the fact that many of Sydney’s roads are running at capacity. Avis tried adding a $500 one-way drop off fee that was not in the original estimate. It took several attempts to get it resolved. Had to talk to several agents and phone calls to help center. Truly a bait and switch on Avis’s part with lots off “we’re not able to take the charge off” and “we can’t override the system” conversations.

The booking was not with Budget, but with a dodgy company called QEEQ who gave me the wrong collection address, and didn’t warn me of the opening hours at the true collection point. The result was that I wasn’t able to collect the car, and they still charged me. I am disputing the charge now through my bank. I will be very reluctant to use Kayak again, given the appalling companies with which you deal.

Service was great in terms of quality if car and staff helping , but not enough communication/direction in regards to drop off and locations. Disappointing that the pending transaction is seperate to the final cost . I’ve had $1600 leave my account for a 3 day car hire and waiting on the pending $855 to be returned .

While this company claims to be at the Sydney International Airport, they are not actually at the airport, they're off site & have no rental desk, representative or courtesy phone at airport. While booking, this company's location is represented as "Sydney International Airport" with an address following it. It turns out if you search the address, that address is not at Sydney International Airport, despite claiming that it is. Instead, when you arrive and are told by all the other car rental places that they are off site and you have to call them, you have to use your own phone (an international call if you not from AUS) to request a shuttle be dispatched. After calling for a shuttle, the company sent ours to the wrong terminal even though we had provided our flight info when we booked the car rental. After waiting nearly 40 mins with an exhausted two year old & having to make a second international phone call to ask what was going on, the company blamed us for their mistake & insisted that we gave them the wrong terminal information (in reality they never asked what terminal we were at and assumed we were at the international terminal). They then insisted that I was supposed to call 24 hours ahead of time to schedule the shuttle (the instructions provided by them, in contrast, state nothing of the sort, only "For detailed pick-up instructions, please call [...] at least 24 hours before your pick-up time. Please go to: Priority Pickup Area / Rideshare Area. A shuttle will take you to the rental counter."). They disliked that I refused to accept responsibility for their mistake, that I pointed out that their instructions said nothing about being required to book a shuttle in advance while quoting what it actually said, and that in the process of disputing their accusations and complaining about the disaster that is their pickup process I swore on the phone. Their response was to threaten to not give us the car we had pre-paid for. The shuttle driver was appalled by how we had been treated and told us to ask to speak to a manager and report the behavior. At the off site location, the company representative insisted that he was the manager of the company and there was no one else in the company I could speak to in order to file a complaint and then claimed that I had broken a law, so he was within his right to not rent me the car I had already paid for. When I pressed them about what law I had broken, he then claimed it was actually an internal company policy that, as best he could describe to me, no one could ever actually know about or have been able to read ahead of time (& he couldn't produce it for me either). Finally another employee attempted to smooth things over by suggesting that it was a misunderstanding caused by poor communication by the third party booking service used (also not my problem and a reflection of their arrangement with these companies), and they finally gave us the car we had reserved and paid for. This was by far the least professional rental car company I've ever used and can not believe they treat their customers this way.

customer service person was in training so it took a lot longer, would have been better for a senior person to work with him to get it done faster. Manager was a bit blunt and rude, as a one-way fee was added at the counter and not when we made the reservation, which is why we chose dollar instead of another company. we probably would've went with another company closer if they would've just been up front with the fees. The manger just said "well you can take it or not take the car". a bit rude.

Car smelled of cigarette. I was told that there was airport transfer to the car park, but there wasn't, so I had to pay 2x Uber of about $30 each out of my own pocket. I paid $800 bond deposit that should have been refunded within two weeks of car return, it is now over three weeks and I'm still waiting, with no help from QEEQ and no response from the car supplier.
