Pros: The staff is absolutely amazing. They are incredibly helpful, really nice, smiling, willing to help at any time and with anything. I got the room way before check-in time. I arrived early in the morning to the hotel (7.30am) and was just planning to leave my suitcase there and go for a walk until 3pm where check-in is expected, however they told me I can immediately use a room, there is a ready one and no need for me to wait. This was amazing. The hotel is really nice an classy, very hip! There is a scent inside, not sure what it is, but its nice.

Pros: As other people have said, it is the staff at this hotel that were really great and I have told people about it that I would not normally tell or make comment to. If all hotels used this one as an example of how to deal with customers from the point you enter it, travelling would be a lot more pleasant. It is the little things that they do so well and always cheerfully, they respond, they are good at what they do from the restaurant to the bar to reception and the doorman and porter. I dont know how they do it, but they need to keep the secret and keep it going!!

Cons: The room size is very small ( easy category) after opening up my 2 luggage’s in my room, my hubby and myself have to “tip toe” around the room to move about. It’s no wonder we were asked if we like to upgrade to bigger room at euro12.50 a night on the first day of check-in. When we decided to upgrade to a bigger room, its not available , or told to pack our things to leave in the front office until the next room is freed-up, very inconvenient. So traveller, make your room choices wisely.

Cons: When I arrived I didn’t have the exact card used for the booking and I was told I couldn’t check in without it so I had to refund the original card and pay myself. I travel a lot for work and I rarely have the card used for the booking and this has never ever been a problem. I was offering a separate card for incidentals. This was a bad first impression of your hotel and it showed an unwillingness to be pragmatic or flexible.

Cons: It was extremely hot in the room and we couldn’t cool it down. So we left the windows open. That‘s why the noise was annoying through the night. But in general it was very good.

Cons: We booked and paid for a Superior Room. On arrival we were offered the only double room that was available. It was a small interior room on the 5th floor and with zero view, no day light or aspect. We could not possibly stays 3 nights in such a room. We had no choice but to pay 50 Euros per night extra to upgrade to a so called better room on 7th floor which had more space, better bathroom but no storage. Will not be staying in the hotel again.

Cons: I was shocked that my 2 hardboiled eggs and yogurt (in room breakfast) was $30. My husband got fruit and Muesli and it was an additional $30. $60 for a small breakfast!!! Apparently if you order anything they charge you for a full buffet. Had I know that, I would have just gone downstairs to the buffet. The laundry service was also ridiculously priced. My husband washed 4 pairs of boxers and three pairs of socks and it was $60. Shame on us for not planning better, but shame on them for price gouging.

Cons: Only two things didn’t make me very happy: First, it is a non smoking hotel and if you wanna have a smoke, they don’t have a designated area for it, you have to stand outside in the cold and next to a very-crowded- bus stop. Second was I have asked if they could offer me, even if for an extra fee, a water boiler so I could make my own tea up in the room and it was said water boilers are only available for guests staying in a superior blablabla room?

Pros: The location is nice, also the decorum in the room is very cute and inventive, the green light in the bathroom that has a movement sensor is a cool idea. The breakfast was very good.
Cons: The smell of some chemicals was both in the main hall and in the rooms constantly, caused allergy during the visit. Saw some mold in the bathroom and also there was some dust on the radiator. The beds were uncomfortable and the soundproof of the doors was very poor.

Cons: 2 luggage racks would have been helpful... 2 people with 1 suitcase each.... not uncommon I think in a double room... Bathroom new, shower narrow (bathtub size?), only an overhead rain shower which was inconvenient if you didn’t want wash your hair, and with the handheld head water splashes outside cubicle. Asking clients to reuse towels is great, but need to provide more hooks to hang them as well as other clothes... Hotel does not supply irons to the rooms and if you aren’t carrying an iron, you are obliged to use an expensive ironing service.

Also try to avoid room 601 as it is next to room service and they make a lot of noise. I've been coming to this hotel for several years, but you can tell that maintenance is not their focus (stains on sofas, scratches on floor, black seams in shower...)

Several times at night and very early mornings we heard loud , extended noise, as if someone would move the furniture. It is still a mistery where this noise came from, very unlikely that the hotel guests made it. I would be curious to find out.

Cons: The top annoying aspects of our stay at Gran Versalles: the very poor soundproofing of the room - I could literally hear everything from the neighbor room, morning or evening, and I woke up several times during the night. Secondarily, the old and shriveled wallpaper on the corners of the room, it looked quite 20 years ago; the bathroom ventilator that didn't work in all the 4 days we stayed there (thus each shower came with a thick fog all around); the used and partially dismantled furniture in the room. We put our trust in the good reviews that we've seen listed for this hotel, before booking, so I'm thinking that others had a much better stay than us. Maybe we've just been the guest of the worst room in this hotel, I don't know. What's certain is that we won't stay there and we won't recommend it to any of our friends and colleagues travelling to Madrid.

Pros: The location is fantastic, but since I already know Madrid I knew this going it. It's about a block and a half from the Plaza Espana metro and it's very accessible to pretty much everything. I also liked that they had a free mini bar though there were just a couple of Pepsi's, bottles of waters, a couple of juice boxes, and an alcohol free beer. It was still a nice bonus. Another surprise was how big the bathroom was, nearly as big as the bedroom and there is a remote control for the bed that elivates it. The room was also really clean.

Cons: I was disappointed actually, despite of all the things I said prior. It's listed as a 4 star hotel so I had high expectations and it didn't meet them. The room was an interior room so there was no view, fair enough though, I guess they can't all be. There was only shampoo/ body gel in the shower, I'd fully expected if not tiny bottles of each, then dispensers for all three. Also the decor was quite outdated looking, not old fashioned in a tasteful way, but outdated. Like it was still stuck in the 80's. One other point, I was really excited about the spa, but that was the most disappointing part. No seperate changing rooms, 1/2 the jets didn't work and the jacuzzi was tepid, also the sauna was broken.

Cons: I would prefer a more varied menu in the hotel for the evening. Maybe some more comfortable seating for at night would be good. Also the airconditioning needs to be a little more efficient rooms very warm at night. But overall excellent.

Cons: My room was very outdated and smelly, also could hear what everybody was doing in their rooms on my floor. The minibar/fridge was also broken. Inefficient receptionists; I had to wait 15 minutes for my simple checkin because there was only one agent and that one guest in front of me got all sightseeing and tours explained while I only wanted to get my room and go.

Cons: It was 49 euros a night to sleep in a room with 9 other people right on the street that was full of people until 4 am. There was a chewed up piece of gum stuck to my bed frame. Barely slept at all for 49 euros.

Cons: Cleaning lady was aggressive and loud. I was still packing and she got in my space and ripped all my bedding off. Not sure why that couldn't have waited like 5-10 minutes for me to finish up. Also, she was making gross hacking sounds. Additionally, there are lockers in the room and someone's alarm started going off at 4am- but they were out partying so they obviously couldn't turn it off. I asked the head person to unlock the locker just to turn the alarm off but he claimed he didn't have a key.... and also refused to move the lockers... so basically he let the alarm keep going off in our room.

Cons: The room Air conditioning was almost non existent. It was very warm in Madrid when we stayed. I need to be under the covers when I sleep. The pillows were the worst I have ever encountered! They were long and thin so they offered no head support. If you folded them in half it was worse because it became very firm and uncomfortable like sleeping on a bath towel that was rolled up and then folded in half. I need absolute darkness to sleep. The light illuminating from the TV literally lit the room up. It wasn't until our last night that I figured to cover the TV with blankets. The walls and ceilings seem thin because I heard banging and conversations going on in other rooms, both above and on the side of me. You could even hear the people across the hall. The complimentary breakfast buffet also was not worth even going to. Everything was not only substandard and cheap, but while we were there the hotel was at capacity, so the buffet area was extremely loud, and everyone was grabbing food as fast as they could. We ate breakfast outside each day after that. Bottom line...Spend a few extra bucks for a more comfortable hotel, with a better breakfast!
