I really liked La Latina, and Las Letras areas. As for activities, they offered a few fun things, especially for younger people, in the hostel – – walking tours, and a pub crawl at night. While kind of cheesy, I did take advantage of the hop on/hop off bus tour (29€) and it helped me get my bearings around the city, then decide where I really wanted to visit with more time One thing I would recommend to hostels in general, is to have more hooks, and perhaps a shower grab bar in the bathroom, as getting in and out of the shower was tricky.

This NH hotel is in Chamberí, just North of the more touristy and active (loud) Centro area. The Metro and bus transportation system is exceptionally good, clean and safe, so most points of interest are 15-20 minutes away.

I would book hotel which they have front desk people. Don’t book Apartment or Airbnb unless you plan to cook a lot. Hotel is much better choice as you can also leave luggages if you get there early or want to stroll the city after you check out and before your next transit. Anything you need, they have front desk people that can answer/assist quickly.

Best (quieter) neighborhoods: Chamberi, Salamanca, Retiro. Don't get a car, as subways and buses are amazingly good, clean, on-time and cheap (get the 10-trip MetroBus pass, not the tourist one).
