Pros: The drop off procedure was easy.
Cons: I was not informed of the mandatory $220 insurance fee.
Pros: We cancelled the rental car. They wants $284.00 US for Insurance and a $4,500.00 deposit. It is not on Cancun Airport property a 15 min cab ride.
Cons: They wanted an $8000 usd deposit because i didn't want to buy their additional insurance. I ended up purchasing an insurance from them that was more than the cost of the entire rent.
Cons: They did not have a shuttle at the airport and we could not reach anyone at the phone
Pros: Cheap but didn’t end up getting the car. It took 2 hours from my day to try and get this rental and they weren’t able to get me the vehicle. They didn’t have the vehicle I reserved.
Cons: Don’t book here. Pay more somewhere else where the process will be smooth.
Pros: Drop off was fast and easy
Cons: The process of picking up the car took a very long time (about an hour) and we were charged an extra $110 from what we were guaranteed. The cancun location did not accept the insurance that was sold to us but when we called kayak, they refunded that
Cons: Complete scam! -10 min outside the airport (shuttle pickup of slow if even available) -Gave me car in less then empty tank although paperwork stated 3/4 of a tank (scam #1) -Required additional insurance coverage (additional $23/day) because we didn’t have a sealed envelope certified by the Mexican government that we had enough funds ($6000 USD) to cover damages to the vehicle (scam #2) -Upon return on the vehicle the attendant pulled off hubcap to reveal “rim damage”. They insisted I had to replace rim and tire, conveniently additional insurance they force me into did not cover such damage.(Scam #3) -They are saying they will keep my security deposit (scam #4) Overall terrible experience!
Pros: Unfriendly staff who charged twice as much for a small uncomfortable car.
Pros: The pickup and drop off were easy enough
Cons: Fees and taxes/mandatory insurance not disclosed properly
Pros: The outside staff was competent.
Cons: Everything could have been better. It took 45 minutes for the shuttle to pick us up at the airport. It took 2 hours to check out the car, with no one in line. We had all sorts of insurance charges added. The minivans we reserved were not both at the site. The vans were very old, poorly maintained both physically and mechanically, and should have been junked years ago. We had to exchange one minivan the next day due to weird engine noise. One minivan was missing a rear wiper blade. The A/C broke down. The vans had less than 1/8 tank of gas when we picked them up. The driver side window did not work properly. The other minivan's locking mechanism did not work properly. The maintenance required light came on half-way through our trip in one mini-van. We thought we were renting from a reputable company - Economy, but it turned out to be a sham. Don't use this rental agency!!!!!
Pros: The cars were clean and the check-out process was streamlined.
Cons: We were taken to the a spot that had a different name from the one listed on Kayak. They had our reservation, but we were instantly very suspicious. Check-out took 2.5 hours. They did not have the car we rented and we had to wait. The car that arrived was old, about 100,000km in mileage. We were not allowed to rent the car without buying insurance, which is apparently required by law in Mexico (a fact not disclosed by Kayak). We were given a car that made an audible knocking sound and had to be returned the next morning for another. The new car had over 160,000km in mileage. The remote button to open the car did not work, so we had to set off the alarm every time we unlocked it. The driver's side window would not always go up and we eventually stopped using it for fear that it would not close. The A/C stopped working on the final day of our rental. We had to negotiate that if our car broke down (a real concern given the age, mileage and mechanical issues with the car), the company would pay to have it towed rather than doing so on our dime as the car company insisted at first.
Pros: Nice people and fast service.
Cons: They forced me to purchase a $250 full-coverage insurance, which was not expected and not clearly stated when I made the reservation. This meant a 50% increase on our rental budget. This needs to be made clear during the online reservation and not as a surprise when you are all ready to go on site.
Cons: The right reservation and a bullshit run around ending up with the rental company telling us they could drive us back to the airport after arriving in cancun, never rent with america xar rentals or economy while their trust me I go here a lot and have rented cars from other spots.
Cons: The agency's website absolutely must make clear that foreign car insurance (whether through private auto insurance or major credit card) is only valid and recognized if you have a hard copy of an original letter stating the policy coverage. I didn't, and the car rental agency forced me to buy theirs
Pros: Price I guess? Although I'm not sure if after insurance it was really any better than anywhere else.
Cons: Staff asked for tips at pickup and dropoff, which I had never seen before when renting a car. Not sure if it's different at Hertz, etc. but it was annoying when in most other places you just rent a car and that's it.
Place is a rip off
Cons: They forced me to purchase insurance that was almost double in price to my actual car rental cost - $195 for the car and $320 for insurance that I did not want or need. I tried showing them proof that I have full coverage through my US insurance as well as my credit card. Even had my credit card email me/them a letter of proof - still they would not budge. Never using them ever again. Stay away
Why still working with them ?
Pros: Car was basic
Cons: They force us to get their insurance with was about 600$CAD . It cost me 920$CAD instead of 320$CAD . What a shame !! I am more than upset and won’t book with them again neither KAYAK
Price was too good to be true
Pros: I booked a rental at the Cancun airport thru Economy (actually called America there which was confusing) because the price was much lower than other companies. I prepaid to get a special rate but was then charged an additional $250 and charged an additional $388 deposit. I argued but it didn't matter. In the end I got my deposit back but I would've rented with a more reputable company had I known that the rate was not really what was advertised.
Cons: they did not honor the reservation
Do not use
Pros: Car was OK.
Cons: Ripoff - price quotes on internet was not price received- insisted that I obtain a bank letter in order to forgo insurance, otherwise I would have a hold on my card equal to the value of the car. Ended up paying far more than I was quoted. Location was far away from the Cancun airport, long delay for shuttle to get it, and they did not have my car available because my flight was delayed and so they gave it away to someone else. Huge line to check out cars- not prepared for crowds. Tank was 3/8 empty when I got the car- come on! I expect a refund- this was terrible.
Worst car rental company ever
Cons: This is a fraudulent company which will find a way to charge you extra fees, insurance or some other scheme. Avoid at all costs.
Poor service in Cancun location
Pros: The guy who handled to car return was good. The shuttle driver got us to the airport in good time.
Cons: First, they operated under “America Car Rental” in Cancun, instead of “Economy” as booked on Kayak. This caused confusion in determining which shuttle to take from the airport. At the rental office, hard sell to buy insurance even though VISA covers CDW/LDW. I needed to get a letter from Citi (excellent Citi CSR emailed me a copy) to prove I have coverage. Most rental agencies know major cards have this coverage and they made it extra difficult to make you buy their insurance. Finally they made me buy “mandatory PAI” insurance that doubled my prepaid rate. They also put $8k deposits on my cc. This ordeal cost me and my tired family over two hours. I’ve rented from Thrifty, Avis and Fox in Mexico and never had this poor an experience.
Cons: Pick up to far away
Cons: They wanted to change me 3 times more of what I already paid online. I decided not to take the car. It’s some sort of scam of that car company. Never again! I want my money back
DO NOT RENT WITH THEM
Pros: Absolutely nothing.
Cons: First of all, you will spend a little while searching for the rental company. Economy car rental subcontract for their Cancun location and the service is provided by a company called "America car rental" which is never specified at any point in the booking. Now where it gets worse. As we got there, they told us they did not have any reservation for us. They were very rude, absolutely not helpful (they wouldn’t even let me use their phone to call economy car rental offices). I tried calling them from my cellphone at least a dozen times and never got an answer. The only thing I was offered to "resolve" this issue is to create a new booking with them directly for 3 times the rate we had paid online. We refused as we said we had been charged for the car already. He said that it was impossible we had been charged already (my credit card statement says otherwise) and that we should have never booked online anyway as you "get no guarantee". Needless to say we walked away...without a car. We’ve been told later on by other people that they had the exact same problem we did. I opened a claim with Kayak to which I haven’t had a reply yet. I would give zero star if I could. This is how bad it was. I’ve been using Kayak many many times and never had any similar problem. I think they should remove this company from their website as it will end up reflecting bad on them. If you want someone worthy to give your business to, go to Hertz right next door. We went there, explained what had happened and were able to get a car last minute for a rate very close to what we had paid online months ago for this booking.
I got scammed
Cons: I was charged for the reservation and when I showed up for it, there was no reservation in the system.
Never got the car!!! But the credit card still got charged!!!
Cons: After declining the insurance online (because we already had our own), we got to the car rental and they tried to sell us an insurance at 450USD on-site. They only accepted to waive the insurance if we could provide a "letter" from our providers. We got to our hotel, called Mastercard, they sent us their standard letter, we got it printed and we returned the following day. This time, they told us we also needed a liability insurance for at least $3M... but they could sell us one for 318USD. So we refused. We asked to cancel the reservation entirely, but they also refused. The customer service (at the booth and on the phone) was both abyssmal and useless. By the way, we found out that when you rent from Economy car-rental, the service on site is provided by America car-rental (a TOTALLY different company...). As such, when you have an issue on the ground, they bounce you back to Economy (which is circular!) and/or to Kayak (who is not involved in the transaction at all) whenever convenient. Like kids playing "hot potato"! Finally, the email receipt we got for the initial transaction clearly stated it was in $CDN and they dinged our credit card with the same amount but in $USD (so about 40% more at the moment). We have not yet been able to get this issue addressed either! I have rented cars countless times and never seen anything like this!
Cons: The car I originally signed up for I couldn’t get due their not being enough of those cars. I got a crappy dodge attitude brakes and shocks were blown and bunch of ants inside the car. I wasn’t able to switch the car till 2-3 days later due to their not being other cars in the level rental I got
extremely bad experience, we did use this service at all
Pros: Nothing, extremely bad service & experience, this company shouldn't be on Kayak or on any Internet site.
Cons: I did my reservation online which I thought it was a good deal. And I did not choose assurance as optional as always I did in other countries, and nothing mentioned about assurance is mandatory during the reservation or even on the confirmation letter. When we arrived at the airport, they can't find our reservation at first, so they had no suttle ready for us, we had to stand outside and wait for about 20 minutes with whole our luggages and old parents, and 8-month baby... then they drave us to a "remote area", I don't how to describe, but when they turned off from the main street another 10 or 15 minutes drive without any presidential or business building, only tracks passed by. Then you suddenly found their "office" was there. They told us to buy premium assurance which is $40-$50 a day, and no other choice, for our 7 days that will be $350 extra plus tax. We told them we don't need it we all have assurance coverage with our credit card, they said we can't use it because we did not bring a certificate letter, and we have to buy their assurance, it is mandatory. we didn't see any police or statements like this during our reservation, it was a complete trap. They do not open their counter like other competitors together at the airport for a reason. And basic on their location, the family like us with old person and baby have no choice have to pay $$$$$$$$$$$. My husband and I were really disappointed and helpless, it was 6 pm after 4 hours flight, baby was too tired started to crying, so we asked if they could offer a discount cause it is extra hidden price and a huge amount. They refused to do anything. So we asked to cancel the rental, they said they can't do that because they are not Economy, their name is America car rental, we paid our money to Economy so we have to ask the money back from them, not their business. Then my husband had to leave us in the office, himself to take a taxi to a small plaza which 15 minutes back to the main street, to re-rent another car from another local company, which only asked $130 for whole 7 days everything was included. Finally, we got our hotel at 9 pm, baby got bad cold immediately, we were really exhausted on our first day and no time to connect to the Economy anymore, so we did not use our reservation at all and $80 from that was a total waste.
watch for insurance
Pros: The airport meet and pick up was great. The port drop off was good too.
Cons: At pick up we had reserved a Chevy Tahoe. We got a dodge journey, which is hardly similar. Then they pushed the insurance so hard I had to call my credit card company to get a letter sent verifying I had coverage, then they still authorized $15,000.00 (yes, fifteen thousand USD) on my card. The counter man in Cozumel, and lady in Playa del Carmen could not have been less friendly.
