Fully vaccinated visitors from South Africa can enter Ukraine without restrictions.

Ukraine entry details and exceptions

All foreign nationals and temporary residence permit holders in Ukraine, regardless of age, are required to have an insurance policy registered in the country. The insurance must cover COVID-19 treatment and it should be valid until the duration of their stay in the country. Ukrainian citizens or a person with a permanent residence permit may not provide an insurance policy.

All foreign citizens, holders of a temporary residence permit, stateless persons and children/teens who are 12-18 years old need to have one of the following documents when entering the country:

    Certificate of full vaccination with vaccines approved by WHO; or
    Negative PCR test taken 72 hours prior to schedule of departure; or
    Rapid Test with 72 hours validity before entering the country.

COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Unvaccinated visitors from South Africa must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) or Antigen (quick-test) test taken 72 hours before departing to Ukraine.

Fully vaccinated visitors with approved vaccination certificates do not need to present a negative COVID-19 test.

Details and exceptions

Children who are 12 years old and below are not required to present a negative RT-PCR test.

Quarantine requirements

Unvaccinated visitors from South Africa will need to quarantine for 10 days upon entering Ukraine.

Fully vaccinated visitors with approved vaccination certificates do not need to quarantine.

Unvaccinated citizens, including transit passengers arriving from Russia or India must undergo and complete a 14-day quarantine.

Unvaccinated citizens of Ukraine and foreign tourists over 18 years old must install Vdoma mobile app which monitors self-isolation. Self-isolation is not required if a negative PCR test or a rapid antigen test is presented within 72 hours of entry in the country.

Foreigners and stateless persons who enter Ukraine for the purpose of transit and have documents confirming their departure within 48 hours are exempt from self-isolation and, accordingly, installing the Vdoma application and undergoing testing in Ukraine.

COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Travellers returning from Ukraine must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) test taken 72 hours before departure to South Africa.

Details and exceptions

traveler with no proof of a negative COVID-19 test result will be required to do an antigen test on arrival at his or her own cost and if positive for COVID-19, he or she will be required to isolate at their own cost, for a period of 10 days.

Children under the age of 5 are exempt from presenting a COVID-19 test.

Quarantine requirements

Visitors returning from Ukraine are not required to quarantine upon entering South Africa.

Fully vaccinated visitors with approved vaccination certificates do not need to quarantine.

Details and exceptions

Travelers who display any COVID-19–related symptoms must be tested on arrival. In the event that the result of the COVID-19 test is positive, they will be required to quarantine for 10 days. The cost of testing and quarantine will be on the travelers' expense.
