Airport hertz customer service guy was terrible. Inconsiderate and dismissive. Mesa customer service guy was great. I will not rent from hertz again.

We had problems with our car the first day. My husband called Hertz numerous times to get another car, and although an agent responded to ask what the issue was, no help was offered. We finally limped to three Hertz locations the next morning of our vacation, and on the third an agent agreed to exchange our car for another. We were thankful the first car was driveable (but not safe) and we could go to another location ourselves. It took time from our vacation, Hertz did NOTHING to come and help us, and had it been an emergency where we needed a ride immediately, I don't know that HERTZ would have been there for us. Very disappointing.

Car rented at Hertz Mesa Gateway Airport in Mesa, Arizona. When car picked up tire had a leak, spent money to fill tire at air pump. Spent 2.5 hours on phone trying to reach a person at Roadside Assistance who then told me to take car to tire repair shot for repair. I refused because I did not want to spend 2.5 hours at tire shop and lose more vacation time. Strong armed Roadside Assistance into sending mobile tire repair to my Air BnB. Sat at Air BnB for 1.5 hours for repair. Next day tire PSI down to 7 -- repair did not work. Spent more money at air pump to fill tire so it was driveable. Spent another 2 hours on phone trying to speak to someone at Roadside Assistance. Once reached the representative was not able to help. Told to drive to Sky Harbor Airport (closest airport) to exchange vehicle for new rental. Upon arrival was told I would be given FREE upgrade, no charges. No charges for gas used on old rental . New rental would go out with full tank but marked as going out empty so could return empty. NO FUEL charges I was told. No charge to drop off at Sky Harbor instead of Mesa Gateway -- due to my troubles. Vehicle returned on time to Sky Harbor Have since received two additional charges on my credit card in amounts of $30 and $53. NO EXPLANATIONS AS TO WHY THOSE ADDITIONAL CHARGES AFTER I WAS TOLD NO ADDITIONAL FEES -- ALL WOULD BE WAIVED AS A RESULT OF MY TROUBLES. Will never trust Hertz or Kayak to provide me a quality product.

Though Hertz's staff was pleasant, vehicle was unclean, soiled & had used tissue inside. Additionally 3 warning lights on instrument panel began to light up during my rental: TIRE pressure, Radiator & Wrench icon indicating maintenance needed! Unfavorable experience especially as a HERTZ GOLD MEMBER!

Hertz used to be the class of car rental companies. Our car was filthy when we got it. Hadn't been washed, trash cleaned out, vacuumed. With Covid you think you would go overboard in cleanliness. We threw out trash, 3 water bottles, etc......before we could pack. Last time I'll use Hertz.

the Guy at the counter checking in was very good, I hate I didn't get his name, but I was very pleased, he was very good, Even when I came out to get my assign car it was not there, the guy sitting out side help good experience I only use to rend from another rental, but switch to Hertz, all along I was renting from Hertz only to find out on this last trip I was only renting as a guest. but have sign up

Check in person was super nice. I upgraded to a another car. That worked well. Only 20 dollars a day. So 40 total. And paid gas. Prepay. By o understood that the increase was only 78 more than the 106 I already paid. But then the total was another 146. So I’m still confused how it was so much more. I now wish I had not upgraded and not paid the gas. I feel it’s a real bad value

Pick up was excellent however the drop off direction could be better in Las Vegas. I had a run around to find the right spot to drop off the car keys.

Car was rented from Dollar, an apparent Hertz subsidiary. Upon arrival at the Skyharbor Airport we found a sign at Dollar RAC directing us to the Thrift desk. There was minimal acitivity at other counters. There were over 100 of us waiting at the Thrifty desk. Three windows were open. As I had a prepaid, non-refundable reservation I was stuck. Standing in line I could hear numerous customers arguing on the phone over the wait and cancellation of reservations. After 2 hrs I got to the clerk who was pretty calm and cheerful dispite the workload. He tried to work in upsales on insurance, gas and a larger vehicle even though my answers were short and similar to "I just want the keys". Price of the upgrade during the conversation dropped three times from $226 to $144, This was on top of the pre paid rate of $377. Not once was there an apology for the wait or an explanation. This is the third time since COVID that I've had a similar experience at Sky Harbor Airport. This hasn't just been with Dollar/Thrifty/Hertz. Seems everyone goes for the lowest rate, thus getting stuck in the longest lines. Bottom line, don't expect to get off the plane, quickly pick up your car then head to golf course or company meeting. Chances you will be late.

The panel below the driver's side door fell off when getting into the car and had the be reattached (with difficulty). It stayed on for the remainder of the trip but a portion of the rubber liner on the driver's door was loose and flapped in the wind. Also, turns out that the tank was less than fell (slightly more than 7/8th) but we didn't realize until filling at the end of the trip when we saw that the gas indicator went completely past full.
