Staines-upon-Thames car hire

It’s advisable to approach car hire in Staines upon Thames in the same way you would in a large urban city if you intend to spend the bulk of your visit in the vicinity of the town centre. You’ll appreciate a more compact car that you can easily manoeuvre in the traffic, like a city car or a saloon that’s on the smaller side. Exploring southwards into Surrey yields quieter roads with more free-flowing traffic, so you can hire something more spacious, like a saloon or an MPV with plenty of room and visibility.

The speed limit in built up areas in Staines is 30mph, with 40mph allowed on the larger roads. However, make sure to watch out for speed limits signs, as many sections of these roads have 30mph zones, like the section between Cadbury Road and Windmill Road, and as you approach the Sunbury Cross roundabout. On some of the dual carriageways through the town the speed limit rises to 50mph, but once again watch out for traffic calming signs that reduce the limit to 40mph, especially between Fairways and Cadbury Road.

For parking closest to the centre of town choose the Elmsleigh Shopping Centre car park. You’ll only pay around £1 per hour for up to 4h. Two Rivers South car park is a 7-minute walk from the centre, and costs roughly the same. The nearest free parking is at The Causeway Sainsbury’s, from where you can take public transport as it’s about a 20-minute walk into town.
