Baby sitting service outsourced was fantastic, our sitter was a preschool teacher.
The Concierge service was second to none and nothing was ever a problem, even though we called them 15 times on the first evening.
Located right on the Bund (my room didn't have a Bund view) and was a 50m walk to the waters edge, and on one of the biggest shopping streets in China (East Nanjing Road).

Cons: The food in the Chinese restaurant on eight floor is too expensive, and no value for money. The decoration in the main lobby should be updated and upgraded to meet the level of a 5-star hotel. Soft decorations should be considered in the lobby.

Cons: The facility is older even after the renovation. The switches are so over-used that one is hard to read what the switch is for. The shower room insulation is old so that water leaks to the toilet area whenver the shower is used.

I walked to the incredible mega skyscraper, the Shanghai Tower, the iconic Shanghai World Financial Centre, the unmistakeable Jin Mao Tower and of course, the one and only Oriental Pearl TV Tower. All on your doorstep. All these observation decks, though in close proximity, are worth visiting! The hop-on/hop-off bus companies all have stops nearly, the Super Brand Mall is just down the street. I had a spectacular view of the Huangpu River and it was truly breath taking. The floor to ceiling glass wall makes it possible to observe the nightly display of lights from everywhere in the room. The room was spacious, ultramodern yet warm, with a stunning bathroom that had both a shower and a huge bath. The towels and bedding was of a superior quality and the bed was perfect! I asked for a firmer pillow and got one immediately, with someone following up on whether I was happy. It is worth getting a room with access to the Executive Lounge on the 28th floor. Not only are the views spectacular, but breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, happy hour and dinner exceeded my expectations (I did not do all on the same day). I had forgotten an important medication and I do think the person who assisted me could have been more helpful. The rest of the staff were great! The pool and spa also get 5 stars! A visit to the pool is a must! I travel extensively and this was one of my best experiences!

The executive lounge access is also definitely value for money. The reception staff were also kind enough to extend our checkout by an hour on request.

Cons: Complimentary WIFI is a bit irritating in the it required constant re-logging on even inside the 24 hour day - none of the various location logins remembers you.
The spa is mediocre with relatively poor service and the pool is far from the expected comfortable resort hangout but rather like a small town community pool where you are given a gross looking community bathing cap before entering the water.
While I realize that I'm in a foreign country the overall level of English speaking (understanding) in public areas is below expectations for this class of international hotel.

Cons: The criticism that we have is that the Club or Executive Lounge is poorly managed. When nearly everyone has to ask for knives and forks and spoons, Butter, there is no milk in the coffee machine or in the milk unit for cereals etc it is a sad reflection. I think I would recommend to stay at the Central Hotel or Sofitel.

Cons: The A/C in our room didn't work. We notified reception and they sent an engineer to fix it and it worked for 36 or so hours after that and then blew warm air again. The reception staff said all the rooms A/C are bad and there was no point in moving us to another room. She said it's because the A/C units are old and the outside air is too warm to cool.

Pros: When we arrived we had our room upgraded and the view of the city was fantastic. I also loved the pool with the city view. Especially at night. The location is perfect. The hotel is right outside a metro station and you are only 1 or 2 stops from some of the major tourist attractions. The staff however is the best part of staying here, they are very polite, friendly and helpful. Also very generous with what they give you. And they speak good English in the lobby. I’d definitely stay here again if I came back to China and would highly recommend others to stay here too.

Pros: My husband and I stayed at the Renaissance Yuyuan during the Wuhan Coronavirus epidemic. Despite the difficult situation, the staff at the hotel from room service to reception and restaurant staff were all friendly and helpful. We felt very safe and secure staying here and will be recommending it to our friends/family. The hotel is located directly across the street from exit 3 of the metro line 10 Yuyuan stop and just round the corner from the Yuyuan shops.

Pros: The hotel is located just adjacent to the Yu Garden, ah historic and picturesque neighborhood the recalls the Shanghai of yesteryear. It is fascinating to walk through the little lanes and see the ancient buildings. The Yu Garden is a real gem as well.
The hotel is located just above the Yu Garden subway station and could not be more convenient for getting around the city.
The hotel is clean and modern. The staff was wonderful. The executive lounge had great food and a terrific view. Our room was large and comfortable.

Pros: When we arrived we had our room upgraded and the view of the city was fantastic. I also loved the pool with the city view. Especially at night. The location is perfect. The hotel is right outside a metro station and you are only 1 or 2 stops from some of the major tourist attractions. The staff however is the best part of staying here, they are very polite, friendly and helpful. Also very generous with what they give you. And they speak good English in the lobby. I’d definitely stay here again if I came back to China and would highly recommend others to stay here too.

Cons: It appears that more female staff are recently hired, which is great. More materials need to be provided to them to help them know what tourists generally ask about.
One thing I noticed about mainland Chinese is that that they do not give details but only a generalized answers. The more experienced staff are okay. But the newer staff should be told to be more specific because world travelers are not stupid. The details are what tourists want.
Also, give the young female staff encouragements rather than criticisms. And have the experienced staff, who seems to be mostly males, to give the female staff a chance to help tourists - so don't take over but assist on the side.

Pros: My husband and I stayed at the Renaissance Yuyuan during the Wuhan Coronavirus epidemic. Despite the difficult situation, the staff at the hotel from room service to reception and restaurant staff were all friendly and helpful. We felt very safe and secure staying here and will be recommending it to our friends/family. The hotel is located directly across the street from exit 3 of the metro line 10 Yuyuan stop and just round the corner from the Yuyuan shops.

Pros: The hotel is located just adjacent to the Yu Garden, ah historic and picturesque neighborhood the recalls the Shanghai of yesteryear. It is fascinating to walk through the little lanes and see the ancient buildings. The Yu Garden is a real gem as well.
The hotel is located just above the Yu Garden subway station and could not be more convenient for getting around the city.
The hotel is clean and modern. The staff was wonderful. The executive lounge had great food and a terrific view. Our room was large and comfortable.
All in all this is my favorite hotel in Shanghai.
Cons: The mattress in our room needed to be replaced--it was a bit lumpy.

Pros: Very spacious room, huge comfy bed & free standing bath. Great view of the city. The rooftop bar was excellent and the location was good for sightseeing. Room was surprisingly quiet for location- and I am a light sleeper. Would definately stay here again.
Cons: The 3rd floor restaurant was tired looking, and the food was ok but nothing special. I regretted it almost the minute I sat down and saw the tattered menu. The breakfast was over priced for what was served.

Pros: I love the location it is the center of all the places we wanted to go and 2 short blocks away from the subway which is very easy to walk with 3 kids in tow. We also found a tiny restaurant that provides good Chinese food for the times we wanted to stay in and eat. The free breakfast is excellent. Large varieties of food to choose from. Even my children were happily eating their breakfast choices. I love the midnight snack even if its just 2-3 dishes and tea. It was a nice way to end the night in the hotel without going out since it was winter when we went. The bathroom is very neat and the scent of the soaps are the best!

Cons: The only drawback is they didn't have a wide ramp for the luggages and the only ramp going up to the main lobby is steep..so you need to carry your luggages...few steps but i don't recommend for Senior Citizens who have difficulty in walking. I saw a Senior who had to be carried at the back by her son since there was no wheelchair ramp. And also morning breakfast there were a lot of people so the staff would come up to us and ask us to eat quickly so others can eat which I find rude. But they did not tell the Caucasian looking guests to leave. other than these 2 everything else in the hotel is perfect.

Pros: For a little over $100 per night this hotel is very nice. I'm surprised there's an even more upscale sister hotel Grand Central next door! The rooms are quite spacious and clean. The location is excellent, 3 blocks from the Metro 2 stop and right behind the famous walking street.
Cons: The staff is not the most friendly and they were doing construction in a room close by which caused quite a bit of noise early in the morning and the water in our room was shut off for half a day. With that in mind we should have gotten a price reduction on the room for the inconvenience.

Pros: The location is good and the room is spacious.
Cons: We were not used to the room warmer and could not reduce the room temperature as it is centrally controlled. We felt comfortable only when the staff turned off the warmer. I believe guests who like warm rooms would like it.

Pros: The location was superb. There are many restaurants and shops around the area. Just 5 minutes walk to the nearest metro station. We loved the breakfast buffet - although it was nothing out of the ordinary. The front desk helped us get a van when we were going to the airport. Overall, it was a good experience.

Cons: Gym is a bit spartan and the sauna only opens at 11, too late to use after a morning workout. But this is small stuff.

Cons: Myself and family were sick for the whole period of being there in this hotel. We used to keep windows open in order to get fresh air but unfortunately, in the last day of our stay I realized the reason behind our sickness. The hotel is not at all maintaining the AC units filters. We found that at the back of our bedrooms windows, there are almost 3 AC units (Compressors) and all exhaust with dust which is stucked on filters is entering into our apartment in which we kept being sick for the whole period of time. The room number was 1101 and I assume all apartments have AC units (Compressor) at the back of bedrooms windows. I really don't know how this hotel is considered as a 4 star hotel. The real rating of this hotel could maximum be 1 to 2 stars and this only because of the location and facilities.

Cons: You get a "discount" if you provide a good rating on website (needs to be done while the front desk witnesses it). Beware of fake reviews. Some room are cleaner / dirtier than others (ie: mold on bathroom caulking, dust bunnies, ..)

Cons: I could not get the internet to work on my lap top. Like all 5 star hotels the mini bar is expensive, but just go to Lawson across the street for a cheap drink.

Cons: The air-con in the room was not working and I had to request to be transferred to another room. The reception staff were not friendly during check-in but were kind to accomodate the room change request.
