Perfect staycation
The service was amazing. Everyone was so polite, helpful and attentive. The room was one of the best rooms we have stayed in, so spacious and clean. The bed and pillows were so comfortable.
There was nothing that we didn't like.
Very good facilities, location and...
Facilities and friendly staff
All good
One perfect night with toddler

Every touch of luxury and...
Beautifully furnished room with ultra comfortable bed. Marble bathroom with super large jacuzzi bath and top quality complimentary toiletries. Happy, hospitable staff who went way beyond expectation to make our stay exceptional. Special thank you to Yudith and her team in the Club lounge, and Lolita for super surprise treat - I'm very grateful :-)
Superb
Comfortable beds, all amenities. Bathtub and the shower are amazing. Size of the rooms are great and beautiful. Breaksfast has a wide range of varities for all tastes.
First room I got, was strongly smelling cigarette, even though the hotel has a policy of non-smoking. Transfered me to another room, but wasnt the same room as I had before, was a smaller one. Still, the room was clean and amazing.
After staying in Kempinski hotels...
The breakfast met the expectation of a hotel of this level, however still space for improvement ( NEI means “ Never ending improvement”
Check in time was nearly 25 min, breakfast waiting time nearly 25 min to get a seat. The problem was not seats are missing , preparation / exchanging time was too long from the waiters
Superb
Everything was perfect
jacuzzi was working not really good
Old hotel
Wi-fi
Very dirty room, I’m mean mold and other issue. Breakfast is very bad for 5 star hotel. Staff also not so helpful and involved. I think this hotel required total retrofit some time ago.
If you visit Shanghai, Kempinski...
The comfort of the stay from every furnitures, pilows, mattress, food quality, staff politeness and services is top notch quality. I love how clean it was in the room and all around the hotel including the fitness room
Exceptional
The location was very good the staff were lovely very helpful and the food was exquisite at breakfast and afternoon tea was very special will definitely stay here again. Judith was very helpful, we met her in the executive lounge. I needed someone to recommend me a salon and she contacted someone found the address for me so I could go. She also helped us have an easy checkout. Thank you so much
Exceptional
German style Food and Chinese food. Good location. The staff is considerate, especially the manage.
Superb
view location
Great value hotel near Pudong...
Good location at the Pudong riverside, can jogging, cycling and enjoy river view. Quite and peaceful during weekend but maybe hectic during weekdays as it is surrounded by many office buildings. Easy to find food in the surrounding, can go to shopping mall and many restaurant nearby. Sauna facility is excellent, but swimming pool had excesive chlorine.
Breakfast too average for five star hotel standard, its more like 4 star hotel. RMB 208 is really overpriced.
Nice river view
Free parking and terrific location
There’s only instant coffee. Expectations for a premium five star hotel are equipped with espresso machine.
Exceptional
All is perfect: Bed, breakfast, pillows, work room!
We spent 4 days in...
The hotel was great. excellent breakfast. Exceptional help from the business area, Judith, went out of her way to help us out with getting tickets to Disney Shanghai. Thank you Judith.
Nothing against the hotel, but we had a lot of problems with the health checks on entering establishments in Shanghai. People need to have Alipay there for everything.
Nice river view and comfortable...
The hotel is located by Huangpu River and my room on 21F has an amazing river view. The room is spacious and facilities are good. The swimming pool is located on the top floor with a crystal roof so sunlight can drop in. The breakfast is nice. It is about 10 minutes walk to Lujiazui subway station. There are enough bottle water supply in the room.

很不错
Good location in IfC.
Everything was good but the hygiene was not the Kampinski style. There were lashes on the bathtub and the carpet was not clean.
All types of travelers will...
Excellent service, staff, friendliness. Location is not far from IFC Mall w/Apple Store which is helpful. Kempinski is a fine hotel that I enjoy.
Some miss communication with the concierge and a taxi destination.
Expected something better.
Location is perfect in Pudong area. 15 mins walk to Shanghai Tower, 5 mins walk to the Oriental Perl, 10 mins walk to LuJiaZui subway station. HuangPu river just 2 mins behind the hotel.
1) Old hotel (but clean), old fashioned without its own design (design more like average business hotel) and a bit dark in decor. Very soon will need to be renewed. The staff try to maintain it well, to repair, but time makes its work:) 2) Breakfast...... Too poor, cheap-looking, with no choice, and everyday all the same. No words at all. 3) Crowds of people. Impossible to swim in the pool. Have to get up very early in the morning (at 6) to go there:) There are so many people, that sometimes You need to let 2-3 lifts go before You can fit in one. And every day a line of people standing before breakfast. Also need to come early at 7, or wait till 10 before closing.
Very good
breakfast, room
swimmingpool
- checkin went smoothly, even with partner's expired visa, they were very accommodating - very spacious bathroom, huge bath tub - river view at night is spectacular - great view from the gym and pool as well - generally attentive staff, I forgot my umbrella in the cab once, and the bus boy chased after me to give it back -location is nice for a stroll around the pearl tower
- generally the hotel looks older than expected - Western breakfast options were underwhelming - checkout was extremely messy, nobody picked up my five calls to help me carry the massive suitcases I had. When I went to the front desk, I was only told that I had nobody was available, so I had to figure it out myself. - room was smaller than expected - lots of noisy kids in the pool and gym (there should be some restrictions)
great views, but not great...

Room size was amazing. Bed, sheets, pillows very comfortable. Bathtube has a great size. Service in general from all staff was wonderful, kind and prompt to help at all times. It was an excellent stay.
Spanish restaurant was closed. Prices of room service/minibar are quite too expensive.
great view
Employee English was limited. Although website said open, Roof top Bar and western restaurant were closed for the entire duration of my stay. there was little compensation or empathy for situation.
Location was good and facility was clean. Staff are professional and helpful.
Have tried the breakfast and the Chinese restaurant on Level 2 (Suntime Century Restaurant). Have to say the quality of food has great room for improvement, especially considering its value and location.
the room is vert spacious and clean red lady was a surprise bed is huge and comfy
checkout peak time, only two staff. took too long. coffee was bad. instant coffee in room, coffee at buffet tastes bad and was under equipped swiming pool is not clean. water is almost muddy.
Beautiful hotel, executive room was the best we had ever experienced; well worth the extra cost considering the variety of evening food and drinks, and the quality afternoon tea which are all included in the price of the room.
Pool area is looking a little tired.
Breakfast
Facilities maintenance in the room is low. Master light switcher was not working and generally there was a problem as we could not switch off the light in the room . So should call reception and technician to fix. Not very convenient at midnight

The location of the hotel could not be more perfect! I walked to the incredible mega skyscraper, the Shanghai Tower, the iconic Shanghai World Financial Centre, the unmistakeable Jin Mao Tower and of course, the one and only Oriental Pearl TV Tower. All on your doorstep. All these observation decks, though in close proximity, are worth visiting! The hop-on/hop-off bus companies all have stops nearly, the Super Brand Mall is just down the street. I had a spectacular view of the Huangpu River and it was truly breath taking. The floor to ceiling glass wall makes it possible to observe the nightly display of lights from everywhere in the room. The room was spacious, ultramodern yet warm, with a stunning bathroom that had both a shower and a huge bath. The towels and bedding was of a superior quality and the bed was perfect! I asked for a firmer pillow and got one immediately, with someone following up on whether I was happy. It is worth getting a room with access to the Executive Lounge on the 28th floor. Not only are the views spectacular, but breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, happy hour and dinner exceeded my expectations (I did not do all on the same day). I had forgotten an important medication and I do think the person who assisted me could have been more helpful. The rest of the staff were great! The pool and spa also get 5 stars! A visit to the pool is a must! I travel extensively and this was one of my best experiences!
The hotel lobby can become very full - to the point of it being overwhelming. You also had to queue for a while to see one of the guest relations persons.
Everything! The staff and the level of service was excellent. I must particularly mention Jocelyn at the executive lounge who was extremely helpful and caring. The executive lounge access is also definitely value for money. The reception staff were also kind enough to extend our checkout by an hour on request.
Location was fabulous and the pool floor was spectacular.
Only thought the tea in the lobby lounge was too expensive.
Everything! Breakfast and dinner in executive lounge were amazing
Nothing
Excellent location, clean hotel, good stuff
Nothing all was satisfied
Location, friendly staff, special welcome gift for kids
We required a river-view room, but we only able to "view" it from 45 degree as river on the right side. The huge LED logo is just in front of our window - which makes us hard to sleep.
good location, very comfortable bath, wide room
hotel stuff's english skills. cleaning staff was sometimes very rude, and she or he opend my makeup bag without my permission when she or he make our room up and left it open... I don't know why, but I was very uncomfortable. The reason why I chose this hotel, is I can't speak Chinese, but I was sometimes very troubled with language problem.
Staff broke my luggage put as they speak very poor english, nobody had anything to explane. Shame for such a big and normally great Hotel chain as Kempinski
even Kempinski can not get communication system working wich puts you in contact with the outside china world
Amazing customer service, food and drinks were great, great food facilities. For any inqueries we had during our stay, the staff helped us with everything
Nothing bad about our stay
The location is just perfect! Foods, sight-seeing, jogging, business, etc are all around the area within walking distance. Nearest subway station Green Line (2) Lujiazui Station - approx 3-5 mins walk. Got a very warm welcome from bell boy, very courteous for asking to carry the luggage for and they all have a great smile. Special thanks to Lady in Red (Ms Bella) for assisting me upon check-in when I have some doubt towards my room that has been arranged by receptionist. Another thanks to a concierge (I’m sorry that I couldn’t make it to ask for your name) a boy with black-orange collar uniform. Handling my luggage storage and also helping with calling a taxi for me to my next destination. Has been assisted by him on Dec 24, 2019 (13:40). Hope that this credit will goes them after the review has been read by the superior level management. I can really feel their hard work and hospitality.
The room was a little bit too old with the price that I have paid for, believe that I could find another new and wonderful hotel as well. When checked-in into the room, my first expression is “hmmm..... so old..” is this worst for me to paid for the price? Room is quite dusty, facilities are old. Firstly, I was thinking like, am I has been arranged into a room that no body stay for about a year? The turn down service served by water bottle that available in side the room. According to my experiences traveling here and there, usually for the turn down service in 5 stars hotel will prepare some little dessert or drinks which will make the guest feel comfortable before sleep. But for this 5 stars hotel is just taking a water bottle that provided in the room originally and place it on your bedside table with an empty glass. (For me, I would say. I don’t need this service as I think I can do it myself for this). Overall, I don’t think I will be back anymore, but I really appreciated for the staff service. Appreciated very much. Thank you very much. Xie Xie Ni.
It’s at a nice location and near by metro
The food specially the dinner
Actually it’s started with a disappointment and ends up with a great satisfaction- thank you for making my second last night in Shanghai to a remarkable memory
Good View / Good Breakfast and that's all .......
Room need to renovate / old furnishing / - We have to carry our luggage ourselves on the check in date.
location!
Great position and great room
More plugins need in room, especially near the beds
We have stayed at executive floor which has marvelous breakfast with amazing view. Also rooms are increadible.
After checked out, we intended to use executive floor for an afternoon tea, however staff said that "We are unable to use after checked-out. You may be kind for your guest who have stayed 5 nights in executive rooms !!!!! TOO BAD
Location
Nothing really
Every thing
Nothing
I found an excellent Black Friday Sale deal, and I also arrived on the Kempinski's Christmas season opening. They had a fine celebration in their foyer with singers, a school chorus, plus Santa was there with treats. The mulled wine, cotton candy, and a lot of other feel-goods made it a special occasion. Mark, the General Manager, is very personable and helped everyone feel welcome. All the staff were great. Lolita helped welcome me to my room and introduced the floor 28 executive lounge that I had access to, which is well worth the expense as the service, plus food and beverages, are very fine. I relaxed in the lovely swimming pool and jacuzzi to help work off the calories. My room, the lounge, and the pool all shared excellent views of Shanghai. The Elements 1st floor breakfast was also quite nice. Overall, it was definitely a hotel to recommend, and the Bund location is perfect to access many leisure, shopping, dining, or other activities such as the nearby ferry for 2 RMB. My timing was lucky and good.
All A'OK.
Great for value :)
But the river view wasn’t what I had expected.
Room curtain could not close completely
Room has a beautiful river view, friendly staff
Perfect location at the Bund
shure location one of the big advantage for near city center
Breakfast wery poor also restourant not confortable
The young man, who handled my check in at the front desk, was very helpful and professional indeed. He impressed me very much by finding me a city map in Chinese after he knew that it was my first time to Lujiazui and stay in Grand Kempinski Hotel, Shanghai. He also upgraded my room to the executive floor. His hospitality and initiative had promoted a good image of the hotel. There was also a waiter working at the lounge who ushered us to a table with good view of the Lujiazui city when there were not many patrons during the happy hours. All these staffs of Kempinski had earned my confidence in staying with Kempinski Hotels in future. Although I had not tried other hotel facilities such as the indoor swimming pool, I would again stay in Grand Kempinski Hotel Shanghai soon in December 2019. I also marked Kempinski hotels as my residence in Sichuan and Bangkok in 2020. Credit should go to good performance of the frontline staffs and the management of Grand Kempinski Hotel Shanghai. Good.
Great location for working in Financial district. The rooms have great views, staff were friendly and helpful, especially in the restaurant where they prepared fresh vegetarian food for my colleague and I even though it wasn't on the menu.
The room could have been slightly cleaner, but that's being very picky.
The room was great with a breath taking view of the bund!! Only this is a great money value for the hotel! Whom rooms are great and spacious! All amenities were great as well
Stuff was a bit impersonal and no great English level
The hotel is in Pudong district, 10 mins walk to Pearl TV tower and metro subway station, and Daxing Shopping Centre. It's a 5 star hotel, grand reception area just like other 5 star hotels in China. We stayed here for 5 nights. Upon check-in, the counter staff explained to us that we can upgrade to club level in the higher levels, with an extra charge which was about 35% more than what we already paid, and that will include the breakfast, we were happy to take it. The room was on level 29, and it is very spacious, and the bathroom is very nice, and the water flow in the shower is great. The club lounge area on level 28 is very beautiful with great views over Huangpu River. The breakfast was good but a bit ordinary. The service from the club level was very ordinary and plain, nothing special, and the only highlight from the services was from a staff named Yudith, she came to say hello one morning during our breakfast, had a small chat, that's the only personal services we received during our 5 nights stay.
We have been traveling around the world and had been many 5 star hotels, this is the only hotel that doesn't provide 5 star hotel services, bluntly, not even 2 star services. The staff here are very plain, no enthusiastic, nor have any initiative for the services. During the 5 days stay, we come and go, not once the door staff greeted us, nor smiled at us. The concierge staff (often 3 - 4 staff behind the desk) were just busy head down, and doing their own things. The staff outside the door will look at us and look away, no smile, no hello, absolutely nothing. We didn't feel like welcomed in this hotel nor we felt that home coming feeling, instead, we felt like we were just numbers. It seems no one really cares in this hotel. You will get better service in the shopping department store nearby, as the staff will smile at you and say hello when you walk in. There are plenty 5 star hotels in Shanghai, but if you are looking for good, personal services, unfortunately, not from this hotel. We will not come back to this hotel in our next visit to Shanghai, unfortunately. What a shame.
Comfort and excellent amenities

Great location
Room and furniture a bit tired
super location and helpful staffs, especially with collection of delivery packages. the view from hotel room is quite nice too.
The hotel just right across my client office, location is fantastic. The decoration the touch, scent of hotel are fabulous. Worth for the price we paid.
Nothing much on bad side, the staff are great. May be on the price that go up and down like rollercoaster today very cheap and tomorrow price can go crazy and back to normal again.
Great Views. Nice room. Friendly staff. Excellent Mediterranean Restaurant
Location is ok.
Health is very poor.
Great location and great views. The Havana bar was very good.
Bathroom shower smelt a bit musty and the carpet was not very clean
Absolutely perfect and strong view on the bund
Great staff, very nice location. The room is comfortable. The whole staying experience is super…
Clean :)
Excellent location and very nice staff
Food is expensive and breakfast can be approved; but generally was good
Very spacious and comfortable guest room. Friendly staff and very efficient service.
Roomy, and like the view.
Facilities are good
A very high deposit, and comparatively expensive. And staff could improve English
I had to give the staff excellent marks. They were fantastic and extremely helpful.
Location, well maintained building
Laundry price was expensive
Reception was great . And easy to check in. Restaurants staff could be trained more in general .
The location is great . Near metro
A lady at the executive lounge named Judith Pinera Marquez has to be mentioned because she really represent the outstanding standards of the Kempinski brand as for the one where I have been in Istanbul and as for that in Moscow. Without her passionate strong commitment the Kempinski in Shanghai would have been a very poor experience. The level of fluency in English is very poor, the level of accuracy is average and the difference is really done by staff people as her. For the rest the Kempinski is not recognizable as for those I have personally visited where the service is impeccable.
Could be true that is a non smoking hotel if there would be a serious limitations on rules. For a person like me that is strongly affected by asma the hotel smells strongly of cigarettes consumed in the hotel rooms and can be detected once you step in the hotel corridors, evidently is a policy of the hotel to close both eyes and just pretend that smoking is not allowed by the message left in any room to refrain from doing so. The reality is not that. My pillows heavily smelled of smoke and tobacco but at the end you get tired of complaining and you just go with it knowing that in a next trip Kempinski could not be a real choice.
Location and friendly staff.
Room smelled like old smoke. Several treadmills in the gym out of order.
The hotel is great with all facility.
Not near the subway other is excelent. The internet some time not response.
Enjoyed organizing the missing suitcase from the airport
Delicious breakfast, clean room and staff are very friendly.
flawless !
Super comfy bed, friendly staffs and awesome view at the bar/the room.
Take quite a while for staffs to pick up phone calls from the room which was a bit annoying...
Food from the restaurant
The staff; especially the bell boy.. Not helpful. Only help the Caucasian Not suitable for Chinese customer. Lift very dark ascompare to the lighting outside Room is very old. Seem like an old hotel
River view
None
comfortable
seems no coffee in the room.
The hotel fulfilled all requests that we made with the booking and the location of this hotel is amazing. It's about 5 minutes walk away from the metro with the pearl tower opposite the station. The hotel is surrounded by plenty of international restaurant/cafes such as Tim Hortons, Starbucks, Red lobster with massive shopping mall being close by for all your designer shopping needs. The views from the room were something that could rival a New York hotel . The top floor pool blew us away as it overlooks the bund during the day and the light show during the night .
For an international hotel chain the staff seem to have only have basic English, I understand that a lot of the guests will be from mainland China but it becomes a small bit frustrating when you have to use a translation app to try and get your questions across. We also noted that there was an unpleasent smell coming up through the drains in the bathroom which we flagged with reception. Even after house keeping cleaning the room the smell was still present. Staff seem to take to their phones during quiet times or talk and joke with each other which fine in private but both times I came across this was during check in and when I had to wait 15 minutes to check out when there was someone on their phone that could tend to guests
Very good location and accessible to the heart of city center. Good river view and beautiful walking way along the river
Location is good and central, the views are fantastic. Front desk staff very helpful and polite. Thanks for the kinder welcome box. Marco the Chef at the Italian restaurant is great.
The Kempinski Brand could do with investing in this hotel. It is not of the same standard and quality as the Muscat or St Moritz hotel. The carpets everywhere need replacing looking stained, old and smelly. The pool and pool area needs to be cleaned properly as green algae is present everywhere and water is cloudy. The breakfast although plentiful and great for for Asian tastes could improve with a good fruit selection other than watermelon and tinned pineapple. It is very limited for non meat or dairy eaters, Vegans. Its not hard to improve this place it just needs some effort and thought. If other locations get it right why cant this one?
Location, big rooms, services, breakfast
Great location, staff and room.
Great service - I especially liked how they made our room ready for the night with extra water, little rugs and slippers in front of our bed. The view from the pool in the 30th floor is amazing! Breakfast was super - all the western breakfast you can imagine plus many asian choices, I highly recommend.
Great location, the decor and ambience is excellent. Room is clean and comfortable as I would expect for a 5-star hotel. However I’ve stayed at other 5-star hotels around this area, so by comparison I would say I get better service from staff at other hotels, and I like the room size I get at other hotels more. Don’t get me wrong, this hotel is by all means a good 5-star hotel, just you get a lot of very good hotels for comparison around this area.
Nothing.
Great location. Easy walk to river and Oriental Pearl
Staff rather impersonal and in 1 case quite surly
Unfortunately not a lot of the stuff speak English
Good location. Good environment in general
Some facilities are rather old. No international plugs. rooms are not exactly soundproof
Breakfast excellent, Turkish assistant manager helpful Some of the Chinese staff no so helpful
Room was tired , I thought from pictures hotel more modern also It would of been nice if there was an outdoor pool area
Amazing Room and efficient Check-In process!
Nice view
All the facilities are too old
The view + amenities + location even though not next to the bund but location not bad next to shopping all and tc tower
Breakfast made for Chinese people. If you want to wast western food not too many options
Breakfast
I wish I engaged the breakfast buffet option when I booked with you.
BEWARE!!!
Everything started so negative, that it was difficult to appreciate anything.
CAN YOU BELIEVE that first they confirmed reservation of all three rooms. At last moment they surprised us by cancelling it. I SHALL NEVER STAY AT KEMPINSKI IN MY LIFE.
Good but could be better
Good breakfast variety. Reliable internet. Bathroom amenities (soap etc) have improved since last year.
Maintenance crew noisy in middle of the night. Wake-up call was an hour late one morning. Showers a bit leaky into the bathroom.
A fairly genuine five star hotel with well appointed rooms including the "standard" amenities, restaurants and facilities. Location in the heart of Pudong's business area suited my needs well.
Complimentary WIFI is a bit irritating in the it required constant re-logging on even inside the 24 hour day - none of the various location logins remembers you. The spa is mediocre with relatively poor service and the pool is far from the expected comfortable resort hangout but rather like a small town community pool where you are given a gross looking community bathing cap before entering the water. While I realize that I'm in a foreign country the overall level of English speaking (understanding) in public areas is below expectations for this class of international hotel. A $ 133.00 charge for a 3 hour late checkout.
Great location.
When we arrive our room was not ready and the front desk did a double take on our reservation itinerary.
A stay at Grand Kempinski Hotel Shanghai places you in the heart of Shanghai, within a 15-minute walk of Oriental Pearl Tower and Jin Mao Tower. Featured amenities include complimentary wired Internet access, a business center, and limo/town car service. Free self parking is available onsite.
