St. Maarten entry details and exceptions

Travelers are allowed to enter Sint Maarten. Travelers are required to have health insurance coverage that is valid in St. Maarten. This does not apply to travelers in transit, residents, flight crews, AUC faculty and students, BES-ZVK medical referrals, and French nationals. The insurance purchasing process is an integrated step in the EHAS application. This requirement does not apply to transit passengers and French nationals residing in France or a French territory.

Travelers arriving at Princess Juliana International Airport are required to self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 for 5 days. Travelers will receive a daily email alert providing a link for submitting the required information online. Travelers will receive an automated daily email alert providing a link for submitting the required information online during the first 5 days of their stay. Travelers remaining for a shorter time on the island will have to submit the information for the time of their stay on the island.

COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Unvaccinated visitors from South Africa must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) test taken 72 hours before departing to St. Maarten.

Fully vaccinated visitors with approved vaccination certificates do not need to present a negative COVID-19 test.

Details and exceptions
Unvaccinated travelers arriving at Princess Juliana International Airport must have a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test obtained from a nasopharyngeal swab test result. The test must be taken a maximum of 72 hours before departure of the last leg of the flight to Sint Maarten. The test result has to be uploaded as part of the EHAS application procedure. This applies to travelers in transit. This testing requirement does not apply to travelers under the age of 5.
The test result should clearly specify the name of the laboratory, test subject name, test date, type of test administered, and how the test sample was obtained. The following will not be accepted are Saliva antigen test and pooling samples, Home COVID-19 collection test kits and Hand-written or e-mail statements from doctors.
Quarantine requirements

Visitors from South Africa are not required to quarantine after entering St. Maarten.

Details and exceptions
All incoming passengers arriving at Princess Juliana International Airport (Sint Maarten) are subjected to temperature checks and other screening protocols and may be subjected to mandatory testing at their own expense. If re-tested upon arrival, travelers will be expected to self-quarantine at their place of lodging or residence until the test results are known.

COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Travellers returning from St. Maarten must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) test taken 72 hours before departure to South Africa.

Details and exceptions
traveler with no proof of a negative COVID-19 test result will be required to do an antigen test on arrival at his or her own cost and if positive for COVID-19, he or she will be required to isolate at their own cost, for a period of 10 days.
Children under the age of 5 are exempt from presenting a COVID-19 test.
Quarantine requirements

Visitors returning from St. Maarten are not required to quarantine upon entering South Africa.

Details and exceptions
Travelers who display any COVID-19–related symptoms must be tested on arrival. In the event that the result of the COVID-19 test is positive, they will be required to quarantine for 10 days. The cost of testing and quarantine will be on the travelers' expense.
