COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Visitors from South Africa must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) test taken 72 hours before departing to Rwanda.

Details and exceptions
Travelers must bring a negative PCR test and will be tested again on arrival. Travelers and airline crew must have a medical certificate with a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test result issued within 120 hours before their departure. Only RT-PCR tests will be accepted, and the certificate must be clearly marked as such.
Quarantine requirements

Visitors from South Africa will need to quarantine for 7 days upon entering Rwanda.

Details and exceptions
On arrival, they will have to take a second test and enter quarantine at a designated hotel for 24 hours while awaiting its results. Designated hotels can be found in the Government of Rwanda guidance.. The test will cost USD 50. Travelers may leave the quarantine once receiving a negative testing result. If the results are positive, they will be required to enter a government treatment facility.
After 7 days of quarantine, travelers can get a test. If the test is negative, travelers do not need to quarantine further.

COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Travellers returning from Rwanda must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) test taken 72 hours before departure to South Africa.

Details and exceptions
traveler with no proof of a negative COVID-19 test result will be required to do an antigen test on arrival at his or her own cost and if positive for COVID-19, he or she will be required to isolate at their own cost, for a period of 10 days.
Children under the age of 5 are exempt from presenting a COVID-19 test.
Quarantine requirements

Visitors returning from Rwanda are not required to quarantine upon entering South Africa.

Details and exceptions
Travelers who display any COVID-19–related symptoms must be tested on arrival. In the event that the result of the COVID-19 test is positive, they will be required to quarantine for 10 days. The cost of testing and quarantine will be on the travelers' expense.
