Latvia entry details and exceptions

All travelers, except for the nationals of the Republic of Latvia or permanent residents of the European Union with a residence permit in Latvia, who stayed for the last 10 days in South Africa, Lesotho, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Namibia, Eswatini and Malawi are prohibited from entering Latvia.

Travelers arriving in Latvia are required to fill out Covidpass 48 hours prior to arrival in Latvia.

COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Visitors from South Africa must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) test taken 72 hours before departing to Latvia.

Details and exceptions
As of 2 December 2021, all travelers, including those who have an interoperable vaccination or recovery certificate must undergo a free-of-charge COVID-19 testing in the territory of Riga International Airport.
Permitted travelers from South Africa, Lesotho, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Namibia, Eswatini and Malawi are required to present an RT-PCR test performed not earlier than 72 hours prior to entering Latvia. These travelers are also required to present another test on the eighth day after entering Latvia.
Children under the age of 12, individuals with compelling reasons or pressing grounds and those who cross the border on a daily basis for work or education from Latvia to other EU countries are exempt from presenting a COVID-19 test.
Quarantine requirements

Visitors from South Africa will need to quarantine for 10 days upon entering Latvia.

Details and exceptions
Travelers arriving from high-risk countries are required to isolate in a quarantine accommodation for 10 days.
Children who are 0-12 years old are exempt from quarantine requirement.

Travellers returning from Latvia must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) test taken 72 hours before departure to South Africa.

Details and exceptions
traveler with no proof of a negative COVID-19 test result will be required to do an antigen test on arrival at his or her own cost and if positive for COVID-19, he or she will be required to isolate at their own cost, for a period of 10 days.
Children under the age of 5 are exempt from presenting a COVID-19 test.
Quarantine requirements

Visitors returning from Latvia are not required to quarantine upon entering South Africa.

Details and exceptions
Travelers who display any COVID-19–related symptoms must be tested on arrival. In the event that the result of the COVID-19 test is positive, they will be required to quarantine for 10 days. The cost of testing and quarantine will be on the travelers' expense.
