Bulgaria entry details and exceptions

Restrictions in going to Bulgaria depend on the color zone of the country where the travelers are arriving from.

Travelers arriving from GREEN COUNTRIES may opt to quarantine for 10 days in lieu of presenting a valid EU Digital COVID-19 Certificate (EU DCC) or any document containing the same data as EU DCC. The quarantine may be revoked by providing via e-mail a negative result of a PCR test for the detection of COVID-19 carried out within 24 hours of entry into the country or by a rapid antigen test.

Travelers arriving from ORANGE COUNTRIES are required to present a valid EU Digital COVID-19 Certificate (EU DCC) or any document containing the same data as EU DCC.

Travelers coming from the "RED COUNTRIES" are allowed to enter Bulgaria provided that they are Bulgarian citizens, long term residents or permanent residents of Bulgaria, EU/EEA and Swiss Confederation citizens and family members of EU/EEA and Swiss Confederation citizens.

Test type

Unvaccinated visitors from South Africa must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) test taken 72 hours before departing to Bulgaria.

Fully vaccinated visitors with approved vaccination certificates do not need to present a negative COVID-19 test.

Children up to the age of 12 are exempt from submitting COVID-19 documents.

Quarantine requirements

Unvaccinated visitors from South Africa will need to quarantine for 10 days upon entering Bulgaria.

Fully vaccinated visitors with approved vaccination certificates do not need to quarantine.

Travellers returning from Bulgaria must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) test taken 72 hours before departure to South Africa.

Details and exceptions

traveler with no proof of a negative COVID-19 test result will be required to do an antigen test on arrival at his or her own cost and if positive for COVID-19, he or she will be required to isolate at their own cost, for a period of 10 days.

Children under the age of 5 are exempt from presenting a COVID-19 test.

Visitors returning from Bulgaria are not required to quarantine upon entering South Africa.

Fully vaccinated visitors with approved vaccination certificates do not need to quarantine.

Travelers who display any COVID-19–related symptoms must be tested on arrival. In the event that the result of the COVID-19 test is positive, they will be required to quarantine for 10 days. The cost of testing and quarantine will be on the travelers' expense.
