Belize entry details and exceptions

Most travelers can enter Belize, but there are restrictions. Travelers are recommended to have travel insurance with COVID-19 coverage before traveling to Belize.

To visit Belize for Business or Tourism, you require a visa.

A paper or embassy visa is the only type of visa available for visitors. Typically the visa is a stamp or sticker added to your passport. You must submit your application through the consulate or local visa center. Visit the government website for details.

This does not apply if you hold a multiple entry visa for the United States or Canada, a valid multiple-entry Schengen visa, or a Permanent Residence Card from the United States or Canada.

COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Visitors from South Africa must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) or Antigen (quick-test) test taken 96 for RT-PCR (NAAT) and 48 Antigen (quick-test) hours before departing to Belize.

Details and exceptions
Travelers under the age of 5 are exempted from this requirement.
Travelers who arrive without a negative COVID-19 test result are required to take a COVID-19 test on arrival at their own expense. Travelers entering Belize through the Northern and Western borders will be required to take a rapid COVID-19 test at their own expense. External COVID-19 PCR or rapid tests will not be accepted. This requirement does not apply to travelers under the age of 5.
Quarantine requirements

Visitors from South Africa are not required to quarantine after entering Belize.

Details and exceptions
All travelers arriving without a negative COVID-19 test result are required to take a test on arrival. Travelers who test positive must quarantine for 14 days at their own expense.

Travelers are required to have proof of booking at a Gold Standard Certified Hotel or accommodation. This requirement does not apply to foreign homeowners, long stay non-nationals, VFR (visiting friends and relatives) and Belizean citizens and permanent residents.

COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Travellers returning from Belize must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) test taken 72 hours before departure to South Africa.

Details and exceptions
traveler with no proof of a negative COVID-19 test result will be required to do an antigen test on arrival at his or her own cost and if positive for COVID-19, he or she will be required to isolate at their own cost, for a period of 10 days.
Children under the age of 5 are exempt from presenting a COVID-19 test.
Quarantine requirements

Visitors returning from Belize are not required to quarantine upon entering South Africa.

Details and exceptions
Travelers who display any COVID-19–related symptoms must be tested on arrival. In the event that the result of the COVID-19 test is positive, they will be required to quarantine for 10 days. The cost of testing and quarantine will be on the travelers' expense.
