Pros: I told them I am severely asthmatic. When I walked into the room I immediately smelled musty old rug that was cleaned at least dozens of times and exhausted its useful life a long time ago. I went back to the front desk and told them needed a different room for medical reasons and willing to pay more. The front desk person and the day manager told me that they did not have availability without any serious they said no without any consideration and force me to sleep in this room where I ended up wheezing all night. They also lied to me that all the rooms were renovated at the same time and were the same. And it turns out that there were at least a few rooms available.

Cons: Bedroom was irritating. Numerous lightbulbs flickered. There was a sewer smell in the room when we arrived. There was air leakage at our window which caused cold draughts all night and meant we heard everything going on in the service yard below which disturbed my sleep. The heating/ air system was poor and the room was either too stiff or cold and I had to keep getting up to change the controls. Hotel was very quiet too, why they gave us this room was strange or thoughtless.

Pros: From the minute I walked into the hotel I felt very welcomed. The staff were attentive and perfectly freindly and professional. I travel alot internationally and truthfully feel that this was one of the best hotel experiences I've had in my life. Being that I do travel alot, it means the world when you can sleep peacefully in extreme comfort. From arrival to departure the George was a wonderful experience. I highly recommend it and will return there when in Edinburgh. A gentleman named " Willy" was a gem, very helpful. Thank You.

Pros: The reception area is lovely and the staff were absolutely first class. They are, without doubt, the best thing about this hotel. Friendly, helpful, courteous. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The location is amazing. We sampled the food and cocktails in the bar. Really good.
Cons: Once you get past reception (and the key public areas) the property feels a little tired. One of the lifts was always out of action. The room was nice (I had booked a superior) but the bathroom was very small and tired with marks on the walls and the extractor fan was full of dust. I think for such a central location (and price) I would be getting something a little more luxurious for my money. I had booked this as a treat for my mum’s 70th birthday and was a little disappointed.

Pros: The whole hotel experience at the George Hotel was completely faultless. The staff were incredibly helpful and welcoming. The rooms were spotless, warm and very comfortable. The breakfasts were delicious. The flight was cancelled on our return and had to stay at the George Hotel an extra night, the staff welcomed us back with mulled wine! Excellent stay, thank you.

Cons: We paid £300 a night, for this I would have expected a more Superior room and facilities. Breakfast was an additional £25 per person( was not worth the £50 we paid after paying £300 per night). No mini bar in the room, no vanity station ( this made getting hair and makeup done a challenge). Back of the hotel hotel view! We did use the pool and spa facilities but was disappointed when no flip flops were offered, or robes.

Cons: Did not like having to climb into the bath to take a shower. (Possibility for accidents, especially in older people.) The temperature and flow regulators for the shower wre not user-friendly and the water pressure and flow could have been better. Also, I would have preferred a water-tight shower enclosure. I would consider this to be standard for this grade of hotel.

Cons: Aircon in room was below thermostat and reverted to cold in the absence of manual override. Bathroom window was covered with finger graffiti which showed up on use so clearly had not been cleaned in a while. Breakfast buffet was fine but could have used some daily variety. Total inefficiency with room charging. Tried to charge over the pre-booked rate by some £45 per night.

Cons: Two things 1. The parking is actually in Edinburgh Waverley Train Station which is a bit of a walk if you have heavy luggage. This should have been clearly mentioned. Also, the hotel validation of the overnight parking took off just 3 GBP of the total parking fee. Could have been better. 2. The lounge staff weren’t exactly cheerful around 10:30 PM. I can understand it’s late but it costs nothing to wear a smile while handing over the drink the customer paid for. A bit weird point since the reception and restaurant staff were amazing, as I would expect from Hilton.

Cons: For the money we paid to stay here I expected a bit more, it was basic nothing special about the room, we have stayed in a premier in and the room we stayed in was just like one of theirs, the shower had lots of mould all around the bottom where it’s sealed and all up the wall, and at least two of the floor tiles where loose they moved when you stood on them and you could see one of them was lifted before you even stood on it, definitely needs fixing. It’s a good idea to bring all your own body wash and things like that you get tiny bottles of shampoo etc and it really is only enough for two showers, no slippers or dressing gowns, you should have slippers at least as the bathroom is tiled and cold on your feet

Cons: The room was incredibly hot. It wasn’t hot outside but yet it was a sweltering heat inside. They had already provided 2 small table fans to the room which were needed on at all times. They were very noisy to sleep with but it was either that or melt. Was very uncomfortable.

Cons: Breakfast was a strange thing. Some of the staff were nice, some looked like they were fed up with the guests (which they probably were). The worst thing was that from 10-15 min before breakfast was over they wouldn't restock anything. So you could come for breakfast at 10.20 and not find any more fruit salad, bread, or fried eggs. Pros: The Ben Doran was the first place we stayed after flying into Edinburgh from the west coast of the USA. We had a very long flight, and to make matters worse, we arrived at 7:00 a.m. UK time, without sleep and my wife having been severely airsick the entire trip. We arrived at the Ben Doran at 10:00 a.m., and asked if we could check in early.
Due to the fact my wife was sick, the staff allowed us into our room early (even though check-in wasn't until 3:00 p.m. This allowed my wife to sleep and recover, which saved the first few days of our trip. The location is great (a short bus ride from the royal mile). I am very appreciative of the great professional staff in accommodating me and my sick wife!

Cons: It said it had onsite parking but it was first come, first served and cars were blocked in. No concessions were made for vegetarian breakfast. It said to tell them the evening before about dietary needs. We told them we were vegetarian, we just couldn’t eat the bacon, black pudding etc, there was no alternative. The bread was stale and no choice with toast ie brown or white, it just arrived.

He should have taken the initiative rather than put it back on me. I had a full schedule and didn’t feel like they were interested.

It’s a pretty basic thing to have in a room so it should flipping work or be quickly tested at room changeover. I at least expected the receptionist (the checking out receptionist - different to the one who tried to help with the WiFi - to seem to give 2 hoots but nope, she wasn’t bothered at all. Also WiFi was awful. Didn’t work, the receptionist tried to get another strain of the WiFi to work but it was just as rubbish. At least that first receptionist tried to do something. Chair had barely any leather left. Room felt really dated.

Cons: Bedroom needs updating , bashed about furniture etc, ( this was a classic room) very load people in next room on both nights, so came home tired, breakfast was a buffet the hot food was cold, disappointing
