Travelers from South Africa, Botswana, Eritrea, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Zimbabwe are not allowed to enter Romania. Entry restrictions do not apply to Romanian citizens and residents, EU and Schengen citizens, Family members of an EU and Schengen citizen and Essential travel.

COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Visitors from South Africa are not required to present a negative COVID-19 PCR test or antigen result upon entering Romania.

Details and exceptions
Travelers from South Africa, Botswana, Eritrea, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, or Zimbabwe must undergo a COVID-19 test on arrival in Romania.
Quarantine requirements

Visitors from South Africa will need to quarantine for 14 days upon entering Romania.

Details and exceptions
Travelers that have been in South Africa, Botswana, Eritrea, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia or Zimbabwe during the 14 days prior to their arrival must quarantine for 14 days on arrival in Romania. Travelers must also undergo a test on arrival and on the 8th day after their arrival. Travelers that receive a negative result may end their quarantine.

Health Pass For Indoor Activities

Travelers are required to have European Union Digital COVID Certificate or Romanian-issued “Digital Green Certificate/Green Pass” to access many public locations and to participate in certain activities such as indoor or outdoor seated dining at restaurants, access to shopping malls, museums, exhibitions, cultural sites, non-essential stores, swimming pools, gyms, and other venues. <p>The Green Pass is not required for locations that provide essential services, such as food stores, pharmacies with direct access, or religious services.</p>

COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Travellers returning from Romania must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) test taken 72 hours before departure to South Africa.

Details and exceptions
traveler with no proof of a negative COVID-19 test result will be required to do an antigen test on arrival at his or her own cost and if positive for COVID-19, he or she will be required to isolate at their own cost, for a period of 10 days.
Children under the age of 5 are exempt from presenting a COVID-19 test.
Quarantine requirements

Visitors returning from Romania are not required to quarantine upon entering South Africa.

Details and exceptions
Travelers who display any COVID-19–related symptoms must be tested on arrival. In the event that the result of the COVID-19 test is positive, they will be required to quarantine for 10 days. The cost of testing and quarantine will be on the travelers' expense.
