Most travelers can enter Panama, but there are restrictions. Travelers are recommended to have health insurance with COVID-19 coverage before arrival in Panama. Temperature screening is required for all travellers on arrival in Panama.

COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Unvaccinated visitors from South Africa must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) or Antigen (quick-test) test taken 72 hours before departing to Panama.

Fully vaccinated visitors with approved vaccination certificates do not need to present a negative COVID-19 test.

Details and exceptions

Unvaccinated travelers must have a negative COVID-19 PCR or antigen test result. Travelers arriving without a negative test or without a valid negative test must also take a COVID-19 test at the airport on arrival, at their own cost. IATA Travel Pass is not a valid proof of testing or vaccination.

Travelers may be selected for a random COVID-19 rapid test on arrival in Panama.

Quarantine requirements

Unvaccinated visitors from South Africa will need to quarantine for 3 days upon entering Panama.

Fully vaccinated visitors with approved vaccination certificates do not need to quarantine.

Details and exceptions

Unvaccinated travelers and those not fully vaccinated who have been in United States, Azerbaijan, Costa Rica, Cuba, Estonia, Fiji, Georgia, Greece, Guatemala, Israel, Malaysia, Mongolia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, South Africa, Tunisia, or United Kingdom in the past 15 days before arrival must quarantine for 72 hours on arrival in Panama and take the COVID-19 test at the end of it. Travelers who test negative can leave the quarantine. Travelers who test positive must quarantine for 14 days at a Hotel Hospital at their own expense. Panamanian citizens and residents can quarantine at home.

Travelers who are fully vaccinated with the last dose received at least 14 days before traveling to Panama are exempted from this requirement.

All travelers are required to complete an Electronic Affidavit (sworn statement) before boarding their flight to Panama. After filling up the document, travelers will receive a QR code that must be shown on their smartphones.

COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Travellers returning from Panama must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) test taken 72 hours before departure to South Africa.

Details and exceptions

traveler with no proof of a negative COVID-19 test result will be required to do an antigen test on arrival at his or her own cost and if positive for COVID-19, he or she will be required to isolate at their own cost, for a period of 10 days.

Children under the age of 5 are exempt from presenting a COVID-19 test.

Quarantine requirements

Visitors returning from Panama are not required to quarantine upon entering South Africa.

Fully vaccinated visitors with approved vaccination certificates do not need to quarantine.

Travelers who display any COVID-19–related symptoms must be tested on arrival. In the event that the result of the COVID-19 test is positive, they will be required to quarantine for 10 days. The cost of testing and quarantine will be on the travelers' expense.
