Madagascar Travel Restrictions

Unvaccinated visitors from South Africa will not be allowed to enter Madagascar.
Vaccinated visitors from South Africa need to provide a negative COVID-19 test result and quarantine to enter Madagascar.

For restrictions that apply to vaccinated visitors, please check the official guidelines from Madagascar for the types of accepted and permitted COVID-19 vaccinations, requirements on proof of vaccination certificates, vaccination validity period, and persons and/or groups that may be exempt from vaccination restrictions.


Madagascar entry details and exceptions

Travelers are required to fill out the Boarding Form and must meet the below travel conditions to enter Madagascar:

1. Presentation of a negative result of an RT-PCR test performed 72 hours before boarding

2. Presentation of a Letter of Commitment to stay in self-isolation until the test result is obtained

4. Presentation of 2 nights hotel booking certification and proof of payment of a hotel room for at least 1 night for self-isolation. See list of accredited hotels HERE.

5. Proof of Airport-to-hotel transport that is organised by the accommodating hotel and is payable by the traveller.

4. The completion of a travel tracking form after the self-isolation period.

COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Visitors from South Africa must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) test taken 72 hours before departing to Madagascar.

Details and exceptions
Travelers are subject to another COVID-19 PCR test at their own expense upon arrival at the airport. The mandatory PCR test (25 euros) would be included in the air fare.
Quarantine requirements

Visitors from South Africa will need to quarantine for 2 days upon entering Madagascar.

Details and exceptions
Travelers are required to quarantine at their own expense until the test results are available, which takes 1 to 2 days. If the test is negative, the traveler is free to move around. In the event of a positive result, they will be quarantined for another 14 days.

COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Travellers returning from Madagascar must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) test taken 72 hours before departure to South Africa.

Details and exceptions
traveler with no proof of a negative COVID-19 test result will be required to do an antigen test on arrival at his or her own cost and if positive for COVID-19, he or she will be required to isolate at their own cost, for a period of 10 days.
Children under the age of 5 are exempt from presenting a COVID-19 test.
Quarantine requirements

Visitors returning from Madagascar are not required to quarantine upon entering South Africa.

Details and exceptions
Travelers who display any COVID-19–related symptoms must be tested on arrival. In the event that the result of the COVID-19 test is positive, they will be required to quarantine for 10 days. The cost of testing and quarantine will be on the travelers' expense.
