Ghana entry details and exceptions

Travelers are allowed to enter Ghana. Land and sea borders remain closed until further notice.

Temperature screening is required for all passengers on arrival.

To visit Ghana for Business or Tourism, you require a visa. A paper or embassy visa is the only type of visa available for visitors. Typically the visa is a stamp or sticker added to your passport. You must submit your application through the consulate or local visa center.

COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Visitors from South Africa must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) test taken 72 hours before departing to Ghana.

Details and exceptions
Travelers must have a negative COVID-19 PCR test result. The test must be taken from a Trusted Travel accredited laboratory a maximum of 72 hours before departure. Travelers must validate their test results through the African Union Trusted Travel or the UNDP Global Haven systems. This requirement does not apply to travelers under the age of 5 and travelers who are departing and returning to Ghana for a maximum of 1 week. These travelers must take a test on arrival.
Travelers must take a COVID-19 antigen test at their own cost on arrival in Ghana. Payment should be made online before departure to Ghana. This requirement does not apply to travelers under the age of 5.
Quarantine requirements

Visitors from South Africa are not required to quarantine after entering Ghana.

Details and exceptions
Travelers who test positive for COVID-19 on arrival in Ghana must quarantine for 7 days at a designated health facility. Travelers are required to take a COVID-19 PCR test between days 2-3 of quarantine, with test results normally being ready for a maximum of 48 hours.

COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Travellers returning from Ghana must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) test taken 72 hours before departure to South Africa.

Details and exceptions
traveler with no proof of a negative COVID-19 test result will be required to do an antigen test on arrival at his or her own cost and if positive for COVID-19, he or she will be required to isolate at their own cost, for a period of 10 days.
Children under the age of 5 are exempt from presenting a COVID-19 test.
Quarantine requirements

Visitors returning from Ghana are not required to quarantine upon entering South Africa.

Details and exceptions
Travelers who display any COVID-19–related symptoms must be tested on arrival. In the event that the result of the COVID-19 test is positive, they will be required to quarantine for 10 days. The cost of testing and quarantine will be on the travelers' expense.
