Pros: Nothing to fault this property it was 5* & better than home from home. Excellent breakfast, comfortable bed, friendly host. Perfect.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect stay - combination of idyllic English pub/restaurant with pristine accommodation. Great that a good continental breakfast is included in the £80. Probably not the ideal location if visiting Oxford over a few days as it is over on the Cotswold side of Oxfordshire.
Cons: Nothing - we have stayed before when visiting family in Witney.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent staff, very welcoming. Spotlessly clean, good-sized room with nice ensuite. Nice bar and very good breakfast. Very dog friendly. Nice rural location.
Cons: Room decor, though fresh and immaculate, was a little gloomy - variations of grey on all walls and doors etc., with limited light from smallish windows on the ground floor.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Large, bright, clean room - comfortable beds and bedding. Hospitable and welcoming evening staff. Excellent food for dinner and breakfast. Lovely pub area and restaurant with fireplace. Safe parking. Not noisy!
Cons: We had a great stay and there wasn't anything that we didn't like
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The accommodation was an oasis after a hectic international arrival & car rental drive from Heathrow in the dark & rain. The staff were so friendly & offered advice and wrote notes for the best villages etc in the area. Thoroughly recommend.
Cons: Nothing. Except the traffic around Oxford.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Big tv and spacious room
10,0 Excellent
Pros: from check in to check out the service was amazing, the staff care for your needs and go the extra mile to make sure the stay is perfect
Cons: nothing
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Pub is set in lovely countryside. Quiet and peaceful. The stone built accommodation block is separate to the pub set around a courtyard. Our ground floor room (9) was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Great meal in the pub. Not cheap but fantastic value and great service from the restaurant team. Breakfast was excellent...cooked to order and again great service.
Cons: Nothing really...no quibbles at all from either of us.

9,0 Excellent
Pros: Staff couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful. Never seen such a clean room and en-suite! Wonderful hotel. Would definitely stay again. Location was great for our visit to the Palace and for exploring Woodstock.
Cons: Slightly funny smell when entering the reception, possibly the age of the property? The rooms and elsewhere weren’t effected by it and were perfect.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: So comfortable, friendly staff, so relaxed after one night, and they accepted dogs for a small charge of £10
Cons: The fact I had to go home, would have loved to of stayed a few days
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous breakfast
Cons: Bar closes at 9pm not a huge selection of drinks
10,0 Excellent
Pros: This was the second time we have stayed at the Marlborough and it did not disappoint. The accommodation is very comfortable and clean and the staff very friendly and efficient. It is conveniently located for visiting Blenheim Palace. We would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone else and hope to stay there again in the future.
Cons: Nothing
6,0 Good
Pros: Plus: historic feel to the property; decent sized room (in our case); pleasant staff.
Cons: Really poor value. Two of our three rooms were each c. £200 per night and for this price I expect a warm room (radiator had been turned off - and when turned on it scarcely warmed up. We were given an electric heater but this is what happens in £80 b&bs, not £200 hotels). Bathroom really needs a refurb. Breakfast was good but again some of the items were really lowish b&b standard: orange juice from concentrate and cheap tea). If we’d paid (say) £100-£120 for the room we’d have been happier but at this price there are far better hotels in the area.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Excellent welcome - owners on hand and very accommodating. Breakfast was fantastic real value for money with top quality ingredients.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Nice traditional Inn, staff were extremely friendly. Breakfast consisited of nice wholesome ingredients and the location for Blenheim palace was perfect!
8,5 Excellent
Pros: The room was spacious and pleasant. The location was great and parking was easy.
Cons: The hosts were busy with paperwork and not very friendly. We were treated respectfully but not kindly.

Pros: Excellent
Cons: Light bulbs replaced and razor plug in bathroom made to work. Spiral staircase should be warned about in website
7,0 Good
Pros: Fluffy towels and a spacious bathroom.Best Full English breakfast we had anywhere in a long time and lovely orange juice and tea! Hairdryer, ironing board and iron all provided.decent size TV with good picture.
Cons: No tea making facilities in room. Room very hot but we just turned radiator down. Dripping cistern in toilet but we just closed the door. Didn't disturb our sleep. Scary step staircase but it is a very olde worlde Inn style pub with and above the pub. No noise heard though .
2,0 Mediocre
Pros: Blenheim palace is amazing with a great walk and the black prince was a friendly local pub!
Cons: What a beautiful location, we had a lovely walk around the palace however we believe that this establishment is taking visitors for granted. The room was tiny, they've clearly divided one decent room at some stage and created two very small rooms! The shower door wouldn't shut properly, we could hear the conversation from the room next door, there was a disturbing fluid stain on a decorative bed pillow, the bed was very uncomfortable and the food was poor especially the vegetarian breakfast. To summarise, we won't be coming back, we are now in an Oxford hotel and wished we had stayed here last night and just visited Woodstock for a few hours.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Brilliant stay at The Star. Lovely room, food and staff
Cons: Could not fault anything
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Very lively pub; comfy bed.
Cons: Staircase to room was difficult!
7,0 Good
Pros: Great Pub, good room
Cons: Only gripe was 2 poached eggs taking half an hour to come out when I was the first order at breakfast at 8am.
6,0 Good
Pros: Lovely building, very quirky even the 4” gap under the door of our room (1) made us laugh a little. Breakfast and all food excellent, staff very friendly
Cons: Unfortunately there were pubic hairs around the shower facility and the bar was very noisy of an evening. And I mean VERY noisy Could hear every word or noise from outside - our room was on the front so even though soundproofing was fitted to the windows we could still hear all the rowdy drunks and smokers shouting outside
The Blenheim Buttery - Woodstock - Bedroom
5
8,7 Excellent (626 reviews)
R1 682+
Overview Reviews
Located in Woodstock, The Blenheim Buttery is within a 15-minute drive of Blenheim Palace and University of Oxford.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: All excellent, although the option of more tea/coffee at breakfast would have been appreciated. I feel sure we had only to ask, but to be invited would have been good, or provision of pot/cafetiere appreciated. Otherwise very attentive staff & well served breakfast with good options Location excellent. Provision of tea/coffee making facilities in the room was excellent.
Cons: Room was excellent - the only suggestion (& I am being really picky here) would be to provide the possibility of watching the TV whilst sitting in the arm chairs rather than lying in/on bed. The restriction on parking was no real problem as it happened but some ability for residents to have parking available until departure would be a real bonus!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely character property. Extremely clean. Kind and helpful staff. Delicious breakfast. The best property we stayed in in the Cotswolds! :-)
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean comfy rooms great location in the centre of Woodstock friendly staff had everything we needed.
Cons: Sofa bed could have been more comfortable
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Pleasant modern room and plenty of extra pillows and blankets.
Cons: Would have liked more toast and bacon with the breakfast
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Nice room, warm and quiet. Great breakfast.
Cons: Bathroom was freezing though as it didn’t have any kind of radiator.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was very good, hotel quaint and quirky.
Cons: Black out curtains in bedroom needed. The place is very old and everything creaks but that adds to its charm.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Location, nice room, good en suite facilities, clean and comfortable.
Cons: Stairs to room at the top a bit tricky with a case (but these reflect the age and character of the building), would have liked a more extensive breakfast menu.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Great location to Blenheim Palace, walk of a few minutes. Cosy room, no real view from the window (overlooking back yard) but not a game changer . Very good breakfast.

Pros: Service
Cons: Our room was very dusty. It was not pointed out to us that we would not be in main building up very steep stairs.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: We had superior Rom parkinwhich was super. Food very good Great gin. Staff gave very good service but without being intrusive
Cons: Parking away from hotel Need another sitting room if more than two groups of people
7,9 Good
Pros: Excellent location to visit Blenheim Palace. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Woodstock has a very traditional feel of a typical market town.
Cons: The furniture in the room was all dark wood and appeared dated. Not a bad thing if you like this sort of style. I have to say it was very in keeping with our visit and did not have any influence on our comfort.

7,5 Good
Pros: The location was fantastic...right on the high street, lovely staff and a top quality breakfast included in the room price!
Cons: Bed was on wheels, the wheels weren't locked in so would occasionally slip and move around
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The staff were all very pleasant. The service was excellent. The rooms were very clean and comfortable
Cons: Although the location is very good, parking is a bit of a problem. The food was good but fairly expensive.
7,0 Good
Pros: Building was clean and the bed was comfortable. Staff were helpful. Nice size room. Good for transport. Warm and a nice atmosphere. Not busy and dinner was very good.
Cons: Front bedroom that I stayed in had the noise from people in the street and smoking while talking loudly. Also the bed was pushed up against the wall so yo could only get in the bed on one side. Breakfast was dry as the muffins where old and stale ad whole meal (wasn't given an option) which was disappointing.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Awesome bed, breakfast was superb and ideal location. The wild boar head in the bar was amazing too...
Cons: Pizza was sold out, must be good .

9,0 Excellent
Pros: Delicious breakfast
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hotel. Lovely room. Great staff. Fantastic live music at dinner. Great breakfast. We loved it!
Cons: Food at dinner slightly disappointing (both had Mac 'n cheese). Portions enormous and needed salad/veg or something.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Total peace and quiet
Cons: Electric car charging point in the Old Swan car park.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and helpful staff, very accommodating, especially as we took our dog with us. Food was great, breakfast especially with a wide choice. Location was perfect, nice and quiet and near to local attractions and countryside. Bar and restaurant were relaxing places to drink and eat, with open fires and a good atmosphere.
Cons: Room was a bit small for a 'superior' room but met our needs, especially as we had a door to a small private courtyard which would be nice in the summer. Price was a bit steep for winter but the location probably dictates this as it's not any more expensive than other comparable places in the Cotswolds.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful room with the comfiest bed. Food and drinks in the restaurant were very good. Location was great, around a 25 minute drive from Oxford in a charming and sleepy village.
Cons: If I was to be extremely picky it would have been nice to have a vegan option for dessert other than sorbet, but it was great that they had vegan alternatives at breakfast.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was lovely the staff were really friendly and helpful . The room was nice and cosy , clean and had everything there if needed .
Cons: There wasn’t anything what so ever I didn’t like
6,7 Good
Pros: The lovely village location and splendid grounds, the roaring fires and tasteful country house feel.
Cons: The restaurant was a little disorganised. Four people took our orders and served us and the co-ordination was lacking and the service was therefore slow. Why not allocate given tables to specific waiting staff?
5,3 Okay
Pros: The hotel grounds and local area
Cons: The fact they have a two tier system where guests staying at the Old Swan get dining reservation preferences and their own roped off lounge area that the Minster guests cannot use
4,3 Okay
Pros: Character hotel.
Cons: Standard room very small, we stayed in the barn conversion annexe, room was very small with single glazed window which was very noisy. It felt as if we were staying in a beach hut. There was a noise in the pipes which kept us awake most of the night. Also we had to travel to a nearby pub as the restaurant(which is another pub a minute) away was full, priority to guests with bb and e meal.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed for 2 nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The first room was extremely hot, we spoke to reception who offered us another room without hesitation. The restaurant is excellent both for breakfast & dinner. After eating there the first night we definitely wanted to on our second night but forgot to book. So after a day out and about came back to hear it was fully booked being Saturday. However the staff were brilliant and said they would manage to squeeze us in and we weren't disappointed, the steak was perfect along with everything else! Staff very friendly and helpful. Lovely grounds and setting. Will definitely go back.
4,0 Okay
Pros: I liked the helpful staff in the restaurant who worked extremely hard on the sturday evening of our stay.
Cons: I stayed in room 121 which was awful and i have complained personally to Diane Cornish the sales manager and i have yet to have the courtesy of a reply to my comments.
3,2 Mediocre
Pros: Setting and location excellent. Public rooms nice
Cons: Scandinavian type rooms (118) were very very small. Little wardrobe and storage space. Walls were paper thin. We could hear neighbours even when they were whispering and using bathroom! Flight path from nearby RAF base. No double galzing. It was clear the accommodation was geared to single people on conferences/workshops. Massive disappointmant!
7,2 Good
Pros: Lovely setting, staff very friendly. Lovely meal.
Cons: There were no biscuits on the hospitality tray.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Location Staff and service
Cons:
7,2 Good
Pros: The reception and cleaning staff were extremely friendly and welcoming The setting is delightful and the food in the restaurant was very good.
Cons: Our bath room was very cold - no apparent heating and interesting though the high ceilings are, there was a draught. This did not spoil our stay but if the weather had been colder it might have done.
6,4 Good
Pros: lovely location, good restaurant

Pros: The location was perfect for Blenheim Palace. The breakfast was delicious.
Cons: The staff seemed a little off. Not unpleasant but not at all welcoming or friendly. The room was freezing! we had to leave the heat up for 5 hours before the room was warm enough to sleep in. 5,3 Okay
Pros: enjoyed dinner and breakfast and friendlyness of the manager and staff - enjoyed the open fire place - hotel was easy to find
Cons: located a little too far out of Woodstock which meant we had to use the car to visit Windsor central as opposed to leaving the car and walking we didn't realise this at the time of booking - also free WIFI only worked in the bar area not in your room - no real problem but just a little inconvenient

8,0 Excellent
Pros: Big selection of good food on offer, both hot and cold. Enjoyed the full English breakfast very much. Our room was in the other building but that was not a problem when going down to breakfast. We were seated by the window and there was a good view of the main street in Woodstock.
Cons: We were advised to get down to breakfast before 9am because they would start to get very busy after that. We were there around 8.30am and the waitress told us she would be back to take our order for cooked breakfast. We waited and waited and waited, while others arrived later (some after 9am!) and were immediately serviced and received their cooked breakfast while we were still waiting to order, despite going up to a waiter and telling him that we required service. We eventually managed to get a waitress's attention and told her we wanted to order and she didn't seem to even be surprised that we hadn't yet got our cooked breakfast, let alone apologise for ignoring us! It was around 9.30am by the time we had finished breakfast and left the restaurant!

Pros: Very comfy bed and bedding, the room was very clean and spacious too. Breakfast was very good and served promptly, which was great because we had to leave early to attend an event.

Cons: Reception could have been better but ok.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: all food was excellent, location brilliant even in the wet weather. the staff made us feel at home as soon as we arrived until we left. loved the room with its floor that dipped just showing its history
Cons: Not much really, my only gripe was the height of the basins in the wc and shower room both being lower than I am used to and the height of the shelf above the basin, as I say a personal thing not really something to moan about
6,0 Good
Pros: Position of the Inn right on the river - excellent for walking ,unfortunately the Thames path was flooded when we were there but would be great! The room and facilities were fine Most staff were friendly and pleasant , menu and food were all fine
Cons: What spoilt our stay was the rather inadequate and unapologetic reaction to a simple complaint about large build up of black mould and gunk around the door and corners of the shower tray. Manager didn't want to come and see what I meant but did ask someone to deal with it. When we returned to our room that evening no cleaning had been done and 2 dirty mugs and spoons had appeared by the kettle. I took them down to get clean ones and mentioned the shower tray again and showed a photo. No apology for it not being sorted, no explanation- manager said I'll get it done tomorrow ( when we were leaving!) Therefore we decided not to eat there that evening and went to a beautiful pub 5 minutes down the road. Unfortunately this rather spoilt our weekend. I rarely complain and this could so easily have been sorted out and we would have left a good review.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Location spot on. Price was just right and the Breakfast was excellent. Staff were efficient and helpful.
Cons: A few bits and pieces in the bathroom and the bedroom needed slight attention. A tip - periodically try sitting on the loo seat and take a critical look around the room from ceiling down the walls to floor taking in wash basin and shower etc. Also do same in bedroom.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Great staff. Very friendly and helpful. Comfortable room with river view. Shower but no bath ( suits us) Breakfast cooked to order was excellent. We had 2 evening meals which were very good value.
Cons: Being picky I think the cereal selection a bit boring. I would have liked some home made myself. However the cooked breakfast and toast was excellent
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Great spot by the river fantastic view Good breakfast Stayed there a few years ago good then but it has now been refurbished and was just what we were looking for.
Cons: Only complaint about breakfast which was good value Tea should be in a teapot not water from a pump action that can not be the right temperature for tea.
6,0 Good
Pros: Plentiful hot water, comfortable bed, friendly staff
Cons: Room tired and shabby. Peeling plaster, scuffed walls and rotting window frame.

Pros: The location is excellent for visiting the town and surrounding areas. A short stroll takes you into the centre of Witney where you can enjoy good shopping, eating and drinking.
Cons: The bathroom was very clean but the shower was not powerful enough.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: I arrived on Christmas eve and left on Boxing Day. Many chain hotels would have given indifferent service on these days - but the Old Court, which is run by the individuals who own it - offered me great service and a warm, but not intrusive welcome. The room was cosy and the bed comfortable with good bedding. Everything worked well. Breakfast was freshly cooked and delicious - even on Christmas Day - and free parking was a reason for me to choose this hotel. I was given the key to the door - which allowed me to stay out late with friends. Brilliant for a Christmas break. Excellent value, well run and I recommend the Old Court Hotel.
Cons: Nothing. Good service and a real - helpful - welcome.

Pros: The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. The breakfast was good and the staff very attentive. Nothing was too much trouble.
Cons: I would have liked a larger hand basin, it was the size intended for a cloakroom and there was no mirror in the bathroom.
7,0 Good
Pros: Excellent breakfast. It is not often I have a perfectly cooked omelette in a hotel.

Pros: I didn't have breakfast as I was meeting friends elsewhere . Location is great, and it has parking. The room was at the back of the hotel, rather than overlooking the road, so it was quite quiet. It;'s more of a pub with rooms, but suited me fine
6,0 Good
Pros: Friendly, comfortable, clean and had character.
Cons: N/a
8,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was nicely decorated but still a traditional feel to it, friendly staff when we checked in and at the breakfast - both girls were on their own and busy but did a good job. Our room was nice, good facilities, tea making, bathroom a bit old fashioned but perfectly good. Very central to the town so perfect for what we wanted.
Cons: For our purposes, we were happy with what we had. We were pleased to get a parking space in the small parking behind the hotel so were lucky.
7,1 Good
Pros: Excellent location and excellent food
Cons: Door lock did not work from inside room and staff were indifferent
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Location was excellent, food was really good
Cons: Maybe a few more staff at busy times, and a choice of menu options eg chips instead of mash.
4,6 Okay
Cons: Light didn’t work over sink in bathroom, no hairdryer when arrived, rectified later, plug off wall by bedside. No ambience in restaurant. Bed hard and noisy.
7,0 Good
Pros: Could not fault the breakfast, excellent and staff were very helpful, cheerful and attentive.
Cons: The check in time was very inconvenient...4.30pm, especially when we had travelled for 2hours 30 mins. We needed to freshen up before we had to beat a deadline of 4.20 at Blenheim Palace for their Christmas Lights. Also Breakfast time could have been a little later.8.30 last serving. Even though we were advised of booking in time, we thought at least we could have gone into the premises for a coffee or drink or light bite, even if the rooms were not ready.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely fabulous romantic experience
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was amazing.
Cons: Got charged £10 for parking retrospectively on check out. Would have parked somewhere else if I’d known.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: good breakfast and service
Cons: restaurant lacked atmosphere
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Very comfy bed and bedding, the room was very clean and spacious too. Breakfast was very good and served promptly, which was great because we had to leave early to attend an event.
Cons: The bathrooms of two of the three rooms we had booked were absolutely freezing in the morning and we couldn't turn the heated towel rails on.
7,1 Good
Pros: Great location and reception we're very friendly
Cons: Bed was uncomfortable and very noisy pipes due to it being an old property.
7,5 Good
Pros: Location
Cons: Charging £10 to park my car
6,0 Good
Pros: Lovely room. Very comfortable and cosy with a good bed and plenty of hot water. Friendly Head lady on at breakfast. Plenty of gluten free options.
Cons: Very slow breakfast. Waited along time for the breakfast to arrive. Not very comfortable restaurant or bar area. No evening menu until the restaurant opened at 1900 and then very limited choice.
9,4 Excellent
Pros: The room was clean comfortable and surprisingly modern, refurbished sympathetically. The bed was very comfortable with quality linen. Very friendly welcome and old fashioned customer service standards

Pros: everything, staff very friendly. And clean.
3,0 Mediocre
