Pros: Everything, truly terrific
Cons: Nothing all wonderful
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Very special place and highly recommended. We look forward to our next visit. The food and service was mostly exceptional albeit with one lapse where we were waiting between starters and main course due to a mislaid order. Otherwise the staff were very helpful and pleasant at all times.
Cons: The ambience, location, charm and of course the excellent gardens being the main attraction.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: This is a fabulous property in the winelands of the Cape. The owners have created a thoughtful, engaging property that enables visitors to choose different experiences - wine tasting with tasty platters, casual dining, up market dining, sumptuous accommodation and quiet gardens - all beautiful.
Cons: Nothing needs to be changed - all delightful and carefully managed.
La Fontaine Guest House - Franschhoek - Building

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely amazing experience. Staff is incredibly friendly and the rooms are excellant. Couldn't fault a single thing! It's also extremely close to the centre of town.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: I loved Carlof's hospitality the first night - very welcoming, made us lovely sandwiches. Very attentive. The decor in this place is truly amazing. And the bathrooms were wonderful. All finishes and creature comforts are great. Breakfasts were delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful. Wifi was great. When they made a mess of our pizzas (see complaint below), they took the entire meal and drinks off our bill - a more than decent response! The decor is probably the best feature overall. Very tasteful and creative. As well as the location. It was very easy to walk everywhere, as they're a block behind the main road.
Cons: The pizzas they prepared the one night for guests who didn't want to eat out were really terrible. Not in keeping with the rest of the quality of the stay. The idea was a nice gesture, but the execution was really bad. To their credit, they took everything off our bill (including the drinks we'd had) so no complaints there - very magnanimous response! The mens' guest loo was often dirty (urine spillage, and unflushed), which is not something they can control for completely, but would suggest regular checks on the state of guest loos by the staff to maintain the cleanliness. Also, for some reason, not one toilet in the entire establishment had a seat and lid that would actually stay in place. They were clearly either poorly installed, or poorly designed, but they were shifting all the damn time. Quite off-putting. The bedrooms are a little small (at least ours was) in comparison to the fantastic bathrooms - almost like in building the place, they sacrificed bedroom space for bathroom space. At breakfast, some of the staff members really struggled to understand English, so it was a little awkward trying to get a simple order across sometimes. Lastly, the room replenishment left a little to be desired - particularly the bar fridge. Pringles, wine and chocolates were consumed, and they would be randomly replenished, so we'd have to specifically ask.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic guest house. Staff was super helpful, beds was amazing, walking distance to restaurants, great breakfast. We had a great time. Thank you very much. We will definitely be back!
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The staff are brilliant and the location is convenient, a short walking distance from the main street. I really liked the design of the hotel - its fun and unique. Drinks at the fireplace in the evening was a highlight. There are also several pools and so it isn't crowded. They also offer free bicycles (but we didn't have time to try them. ) Great local coffee is provided in the rooms. The breakfast was lovely, and the staff made a special effort to prepare an extra early morning breakfast for us before we had to leave for the airport. There is a nice gentleman who stays up at reception at night so you feel safe when you arrive home late at night.
Cons: We could sometimes hear our neighbours/their television. The bathroom design is very modern with no shower door, but it resulted in the floor getting quite wet which is little annoying when using the bathroom. These were just small things and didn't impact the enjoyment of our stay.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely staff, fresh interior design, bedding.
Cons: Next time we will stay in an outside room as we were woken each morning by activity downstairs such as the front doorbell and staff getting breakfast ready.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Our stay exceeded expectations in every way. From the warm welcome we received from Kim, the quality of our boutique accommodation , the service from Andrew and the helpfulness of Cecilia and Christopher. Breakfast was plentiful (fruit, cereal and pastries buffet) as well as freshly cooked options. La Fontaine is a quality venue, very well located, close to the main street but in quiet surroundings.
Cons: Nothing.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The people
Cons: TV too difficult to operate. Also choice of channels limited.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was just perfect! Will definitely recommend in a heart beat!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was fantastic Wood burning stove added lovely atmosphere and warmth
Cons: King size bed too too big
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Warm and friendly staff
Cons: Lots of noise from children running in the upstairs corridor - we had to ask them to be quiet Bedroom door does not seal properly, so we had the bright light from the corridor shining into the room the whole night Bathroom got soaked, because there is no shower door - nice design idea, but messy outcome

9,3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful small luxury boutique style hotel in a great position on Franshhoek’s Main Street. Great breakfasts, loads of choice, beautifully presented. Loved the free bar, premium wines, spirits and soft drinks available in the lounge and in your room. Sweet treats delivered to your room with turndown service, freshly cooked Creme Brûlée’s, Chocolate Mousse and hand made chocolates. Staff amazing so friendly and helpful, in house driver available for local journeys to restaurants etc. Huge spacious bedroom with comfortable seating area for relaxing. If we return to Franschhoek would definitely stay here again.
Cons: Booked a pool suite, but couldn’t use the pool due to the fact it was permanently in the shade from surrounding bushes, also noise from the adjacent lounge. Paid significantly more for this room in hindsight a mistake would book a first floor room next time.

8,0 Excellent
Pros: The location is excellent and all the facilities are very clean and comfortable.
Cons: We were coming to the hotel straight from getting engaged and I had informed the hotel of such when making the booking weeks before. This is where I was let down. They didn’t even raise an eyebrow to us when we arrived. I had had to choose from a number of 5 star hotels in the area and I now regret that I chose this one. I definitely didn’t expect anything too special, even just a “congratulations” from the staff would have been better than what we got. When I finally reminded the one staff member of our occasion, she just said “I know”. Had there been a quick welcome drink on arrival or small congratulatory note in our room on our arrival and I would probably be writing a completely different review. Our room was also the least private of all rooms and it made us feel like we were on show for other guests to walk past and stare at. Again, I didn’t expect an upgrade, but maybe just an extra layer of care. When we asked to go wine tasting, the car was late to fetch us. Then again we were left waiting to return home for over 30mins at the wine tasting. I am left very disappointed as this was supposed to be a special treat for my fiancé and it left her feeling like we were an afterthought.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great room and peaceful
Cons: You need to book restaurants well in advance
10,0 Excellent
Cons: I just loved how gorgeous our room was, the artworks around the property is just awesome. The food at Protégé restaurant was just Devine... We didn’t get to experience La Petit Colombe but La Colombe is one of my favoutites so I guess it goes without saying, simply sublime. The service was also impeccable, I give them 10/10, worth another visit soon.

8,0 Excellent
Pros: nice setting, really good, comfortable, elegent, breakfast top
Cons: we booked here to visit the restaurant la petite Colombe, or le Protege, they confirmed a table in the Dining Room. So we were happy. However, after arrival, the Dining Room is a different restaurant in the Leeu estate (we were not aware) so we had no table during our stay in la petite Colombe or le Protege, because both were fully booked all the time. In The Dining Room, we were the only guest at the time. We asked the chef to prepare some sort of surprise menu, which he did. The diner itself was very good by the way.
8,0 Excellent

Pros: Very nice staff. Spacious rooms. Lovely garden. You do not get complimentary water but complimentary 1 bottle of wine when you check in!
Cons: A little bit too close to the main road. No heaters in the room so difficult to stay in the room if you visit during winter

Pros: Breakfast on the terrace was very relaxing, overlooking the beautiful gardens.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: the peace and traquillity
Cons: nothing
7,0 Good
Cons: The so called hike through the vineyards was really poorly maintained and not maintained at all in places. A real pity as it must have been really good in it heyday. As it was cold when we arrived the heating could have being switched on before our arrival (underfloor heating takes time to warm up) so that the room was warm on arrival, however, by the 2nd day the room had warmed up.
5,0 Okay
Pros: The garden. Staff was nice.
Cons: The breakfast quality (bread, jam, coffee...) was disappointing. Not many fresh products. The decoration was too "kitsch". The noise of the nearby road.

Cons: breakfast is served from 08:30 in the morning only, this is too late in the morning.

The hotel prides itself on its charming ambience, gracious style and attentive service. This 4-star property has a rich history, with one section dating back to the 1880s. The town itself takes its name from the French Huguenots who settled in the area in the early 1680s after fleeing from their home country. Our convenient location is a superb base from which to explore Franschhoek's culinary establishments, art galleries, cheese factories and some 25 world-famous wine estates. The hotel boasts a renowned restaurant, conference facilities, luxury accommodations and a sparkling swimming pool. Outdoor activities such as horse-riding, golf, backpacking and trout-fishing can also be arranged.

Pros: Excellent location, modern clean rooms with views to the Valley of Franschoek
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hotel. An absolute gem in Franschoek. We had a lovely room upstairs over the pool area. Quiet, great restaurant, friendly staff and we would gladly return.
6,3 Good
Pros: The Protea Hotel is in an excellent location with wonderful staff at reception. The venue is beautiful and the hotel is well decorated and rooms spacious, unfortunately the restaurant staff let down the rest of the team. The wifi is good and the hotel will arrange a shuttle to and from the airport for you at a charge.
Cons: The breakfast was disappointing because the staff were so unfriendly and at times hostile. The service was bad. I had to ask numerous times for a cup of coffee and for someone to take my egg order. Every day the breakfast was the same - I would have like some variety as we stayed for 3 nights. The waitress sometimes served my colleagues at my table and ignored me. On arrival I had to ask the cleaning lady to come and clean again as the toilet was still soiled from the visitor before me.

Pros: Friendly staff on arrival with welcome drink and slick check in process. Breakfast was great Beautiful surroundings
Cons: Parking location and distance from accommodation not great for unpacking of bags. Bar and communal area quite cold with insufficient fire place seating and warmth on a very cold wet weekend. Fireplace more aesthetic than functional. Outside chalets not equipped for rainy days with no mats at doors resulting in wet carpets indoors. Bed throw was dirty.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The room was amazing. Was warm too. Wish I would have stayed longer.
Cons: The service at breakfast. It was a festival and therefore they should have anticipated and managed the numbers of their staff. The food seemed to have been cooked in a rush and was mostly salty than tasty.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was amazing & in fact all the food we ordered was really good! The staff are super friendly & helpful & knowledgeable. The view from the room outstanding & the gardens beautiful. The rooms well kitted out with attention to detail.
Cons: Would have liked to walk around the property more but very limiting .The adjacent road very noisy from 7am which was a bit disappointing in such a setting.

Pros: The property used to be one of the best around Franschhoek but everything is old now. They need to revamp the place.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable, clean and even though room next to main road was quiet at night.

Cons: Everything was great
6,3 Good
Pros: Fruit in room
Cons: Too much noise from air conditioners. No hot water in shower. Hot food at buffet cold. Charged for drinks we did not have.
5,8 Okay
Cons: Really really disappointing service. I ordered a simple room service order at 3pm - by 4pm it hadn’t arrived. I phoned room service (on a crackly line, more on that) to follow up - was told they would follow up with the kitchen. By 4.45 it still hadn’t arrived. I phoned again to follow up - they told me the order hadn’t been placed! As ‘the team were changing shifts’ Eventually it arrived at 5.30pm, no mention of an apology. Simple things don’t work: The phone then broke - I had to use my mobile to dial the front desk + the aircon didn’t work. Two stars at best. ( I did tell the manager on duty when I checked out - she didn’t charge me for the meal. I specifically said I was happy to pay, I just wanted to understand what happened - she confirmed my email address and told me she would look into it an email me. I’m still waiting. But pretty consistent with my entire experience with the staff at this establishment.)
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Brilliant hotel but I won’t stay there again!
Cons: I’ve stayed there over 10 times now and for the last 3 visits I had to complain about noise by the hotel. We come to relax and enjoy some personal time!! Not what what I expected!

The property is clean and well managed by Crystell and her team . What to do, when We checked out, We had to pay about 200 Euro more. We felt us cheated! Have not so fare had time to contact Booking.com about it!
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely breakfast . Room had a great balcony with a stunning view. Staff were very helpful
Cons: We have stayed in the centre of town before and prefer it as the walk back is uphill. We did use Uber so not really a problem.

Pros: This is truly a home away from home. Loved everything. We were about a 15min walk from the main street. My husband & I stayed here for a weekend to try the wine tram and it worked out perfectly. There's spots for parking and the room that we stayed in the house was lovely. The breakfast we AMAZING!!! You really feel like each guests actually means something there, always greeted with a warm & genuine smile. Loved all the trees and flowers around which gives a very private feel. Quiet at night and there's tea and biscuits available in the room too. It was an all around happy place to stay...mmm and those breakfasts!!! So delicious! P.S My name is actually Kelly but this was booked under our travel agency called Unashamed Travel.

Pros: Easy check-in and greeted by the owner. Beautiful property with pool, surrounded by olive groves, dog friendly with plenty of areas for walks. Great accommodation with comfortable bed, hot shower and sufficient heating in cold weather. Selection of cold/hot breakfast. We were happy with our choice.
Cons: n/a
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Location Quiet, agri atmosphere Nature and beauty Beautiful buildings, pool - one could have an amazing time there and in the surrounds Clean, crisp Great breakfast selection and wonderful coffee Efforts on the part of staff and manager Efficient check-in and shown how everything works Lovely towels and bedlinen Signage to where we needed to go and check in etc good Safe and secure Sensor light coming on at night when we got back in the dark so that was amazing Ample and secure parking next to the cottage where we stayed Family and dog friendly Ample lotions, shampoo, shower gel Face tissues, make-up remover pads and ear buds - enough but I would have liked them to be presented in a little container rather than lying on the washing counter Enough tea, coffee, milk containers, sugar etc but again it is not covered and the tea bags were tagless so I did not know what tea I was preparing Great fresh fruit and cold breakfast selection - hot selection too although we had to pull the availability (or not) and selection out of the serving staff. Loved the gowns Uncomplicated reservations, payment, booking in and out Lovely decor in the cottage
Cons: Had to call reception because the gate would not open and no answer on the remote call-pad (we accepted the apology) No Wifi in the cottage although it is an important consideration when I book a place. This was quite disappointing - I had to go out to the main house where the router was to get Wifi reception; as soon as I got in the room again the Wifi reception disappeared. Globe in my bedside lamp did not work Cover of a wall mounted light fitting missing / broken - leaves the impression than maintenance is somehow not good Bad plumbing in the shower meant the water did not run away Dark room esp at the wash basin, so difficult to use the mirror in the morning - loose standing lamps would be helpful We were cold so took a duvet off the single extra bed - extra bedding would be great No little snack like a rusk or a biscuit in the room Cold slasto floor - nice in summer but cold in winter so I would suggest putting little mats at the bedsides so you do not have to step on a cold floor Remind people to bring slippers in winter / when it's cold It would be nice if guests are welcomed at breakfast and explain how breakfast works- I had to go into the kitchen to ask for coffee and music also only came on once we nearly finished breakfast - great music - just needs to be turned on Please when you welcome guests to breakfast and serve the hot drinks tell them about the hot breakfast options. We had to ask whether there were a warm breakfast options and what they were. My husband asked whether there were fried eggs with tomato and mushrooms for him and I asked for scrambled eggs with tomato and mushrooms. He got his eggs as requested but only with tomato and I received an OMELETTE with mushrooms, tomato and bacon! I am vegetarian and wanted scrambled eggs and certainly no bacon. It did look delicious though and my husband had some of the omelette. I settled for the fruit only.
7,5 Good
Pros: Perfectly located near all the wineries, friendly host and beautiful gardens.
Cons: The room was quite basic. In need of winter bedding/blankets.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The host was warm and friendly and the the main standout was the amazing shower we had in our room.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was excellent and the location for us was ideal. The only comment we have is when we were returning to the farm in the dark, we missed the turn right (coming from the town) and had to double back, but wasnt an issue.
6,3 Good
Cons: I did not like the fact that they close the gates at 11pm, and if you want to get in later you have to wake the maintenance staff. Also, we were woken up at 5am by the alarm when another couple was trying to leave. They need to come up with another security method, when I am on holiday I don't want to time watch.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: This accommodation option is located approx 3.5km out of Franschhoek on the main road. There are various units available for rent - we had one of the downstairs studio suites. The room was nicely supplied with a lot of heating options (good given the cold front that went through when we were there), limited DSTV, Wifi, and a kettle (unfortunately with only one tea-bag, given). Breakfast the following morning greatly exceeded our expectations, with a selection of breads and muffins, a wonderful fruit salad, yoghurt, cereals, and then a choice of 4 hot options.
Cons: Some coffee in the room would have been nice.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The location and accommodation was perfect for our overnight stay in Franschhoek.

Pros: The breakfeast simply awesome...

Pros: Great location right in town, just a 3 minute walk to the wine tram. Facilities were comfortable and the staff was polite and helpful. Would book again.
Cons: Be advised if you intend to cook any of your own food that there is no stove or oven. There is a microwave and water kettle though.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything we needed. Good bed. Big windows. Nice garden
Cons: Everything a bit old
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Great central location within walking distance of many restaurants and shops. The rooms were super clean and the beds were comfortable. The manager who checked us in was friendly and helpful.
Cons: Overall everything was good. The only thing that could be bothersome is a bit of noise from people walking past the rooms to the bathroom at night, due the wooden floors and the fact that it’s an old building. Walls between rooms are quite thick though so you can’t hear the people next door, which is nice.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The Franschhoek Travellers Lodge is an island of affordability in an ocean of overpriced accommodation. There are a wide variety of rooms to choose from, depending on how deep your pockets are and wether or not you’re fussy about sharing ablution facilities. I stayed in a neat and clean double room with an ensuite bathroom. Although my stay was short, I enjoyed the quiet in my room (despite the proximity to the school) and the cleanliness. The free WiFi was a bonus and worked perfectly everywhere I wandered about the property. The Lodge is just a couple roads up from the main road so it’s close to anywhere you’d need to get to, but not too close that you’re swallowed up by the chaos of other tourists moving about. Then there is the owner, Errol, a friendly man with many interesting stories to share. He and his team were really helpful, especially with ordering an airport shuttle. Overall, an excellent spot that I’d be happy to visit again.
