Pros: It is a spacious, purpose-build, traditional guest house. It’s location half way up the hill gave us a fantastic view of the sea. Bird watching at the property and the owners’ knowledge was a bonus. The delicious breakfasts were artistically presented each morning. Our charming hosts were very helpful booking us restaurant tables and the local safari.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing place, amazing hosts - our stay at Aqua Marina Guest House was just incredible! Alida & Noel are both very caring, open minded, funny hosts who - from the very first moment - made our stay feel like we would be visiting old friends. Bedroom and bathromm both don't lack anything you might need during your stay. And if so, be sure Alida would have a solution straight away. In addition to that, the view from our room/balcony and the breakfast room onto the bay was really fascinating. Could sit there for hours, especially in those months when whales are around! But then you would miss out beautiful Mossel Bay, which you can reach by foot no matter what time it is. The whole area from the accommodation down to the city centre / harbour is comletely safe and quiet, so actually there's no need to take your car out of the carport (right next to the entry door) at all. Oh, and did I already mention the breakfast? So lovely, so delicious! Dankie vir alles, Alida & Noel!

10,0 Excellent
Pros: We hoped to see whales and there were so many!
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The view was incredible, amazing sea views make this guest house stand out. Outstanding hospitality.
Cons: Rather noisy very early in the morning because of the close proximity of the kitchen and breakfast preparations. I am not an early riser and this woke me up both mornings.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location overlooking the beach. Pretty garden and our bird watching friends enjoyed all the bird feeders which made for excellent photography. Loved the coastal walk from the lighthouse where we spotted a pod of dolphins.
Cons: Not having stayed in a guest house before we were woken up early on the first morning by the sound of chopping which must have been the food preparation for other guests' earlier breakfast. As all guests had breakfast in the lounge of the apartment where we were staying it was a bit disconcerting when they walked out onto the balcony and past our rooms and we were still in bed.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing

Protea Hotel by Marriott Mossel Bay - Mossel Bay - Building
7
8,8 Excellent (647 reviews)
R1 694+
Overview Reviews
The luxurious 38-roomed Protea Hotel Mossel Bay is a graceful landmark, built in 1846, overlooking Santos Bay and the harbor. 20 min drive to the airport and halfway between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. Nestling on the Mossel Bay shoreline with the majestic Outeniqua mountains as a backdrop, the Protea Hotel Mossel Bay is singled out from other establishments. The stone walls and Mediterranean-style out-buildings belie the fact that the main building is one of the oldest in Mossel Bay and forms part of the Dias Museum Complex. Previously The Old Post Office Tree Manor Hotel, the Protea Hotel Mossel Bay, situated off Santos beach, could best be described as a hotel complex. It comprises of a breakfast patio with sea view, the Cafe Gannet Seafood Restaurant - "Mossel Bay's Seafood House", overlooking the Bay and Outeniqua Mountains and the Inverroche Gin School at the Café Gannet. The Blue Oyster cocktail bar, adjacent to the pool, overlooks Santos Bay.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Lovely modern bright 2 level suites, spotlessly clean. Very pleasant courtyard, bar and pool with beach views. Staff very pleasant and extremely helpful. I left a shirt in the room they contacted me and have arranged to forward to me, brilliant service
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hotel. Very friendly staff. Excellent location in the heart of Mosselbay and just a 15 minutes walk to the nearest beach. Room is comfortable and clean. Big bathroom with rainshower and bath. Just a little smell coming (I guess) from the drain in the shower which I forgot to mention while checking out. Good breakfast buffet with freshly fried or boiled eggs. Also the restaurant Café Gannet is quite good.
Cons: Nothing
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Booked this hotel for 1 night during the Garden Route we did. Nice touch to put up our names at the reception to welcome us. Also nice that they washer the windows of our car!! Good beds and room.
Cons: The shower cabin was a bit small. Good enough for 1 night though.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Modern, very clean rooms. Nice restaurant on site. Beautiful location--wished I could have stayed longer to enjoy it more. Pool area looked nice but didn't have a chance to try it out. Nice toiletries in the bathrooms (especially the body lotion!).
Cons: Took a little while to check in. There was some sort of mix-up with the reservation due to the third-party site (getaroom.com) that booked the stay. I felt hotel staff wasn't as courteous/friendly as they could have been during this time, but it was fine in the end.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We were there on our honeymoon and they made us feel so special, from the moment we arrived having our names printed out on a photo to the room and service was amazing!
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Very tidy and modern rooms. The food in the restaurant was delicious (both breakfast and dinner). I can really recommand a gin pairing in the gin school in the same building!
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Nice location
Cons: The room is small, even the entire hotel is not big as well. So it is just on the average. Nothing to expect.

Pros: Good view over the bay The hotel laid on a shuttle to a restaurant that worked well
Cons: Not the hotel's fault but- On a VERY steep hill which means not easy to walk anywhere.
8,5 Excellent
Pros: The room had a wonderful view of the Bay. Although the Bar t Nique was a bit away from the downtown, there was a shuttle bus available to take residents to any of the downtown restaurants, bars, etc. An outstanding feature.

Pros: Nice, elegant guest house with comfortable bed. Excellent breakfast with an unforgettable view to the ocean. We arrived after 6pm and the hotel offered a free shuttle to drive us to some selected restaurants.

Cons: Liked everything. Great breakfast, great room - great staff!
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Rooms were clean and comfortable
Cons: Not all super sport channels.limitef television channels
5,8 Okay
Pros: The view from our room was excellent, the Lady who greeted us was very nice too - she also made us a take away breakfast the night before as we were leaving early
Cons: This isn't a £105 a night hotel, compared to many we stayed in across SA and the Garden route, it was somewhat basic in both decor and comforts. The room was drab, the fridge noisy, the furniture a bit cheap looking, just a bit jaded I feel. We were also the only people staying in the hotel, we were left alone (there were no staff n the premises after 8pm), not really an ideal situation. It's also a way up the hill from the town and waterfront too

Pros: It was very good. There is nothing you need to add to make it better
Cons: We needed a small bar fridge to keep our own food items cold. The two dogs barked loudly a few times. Perhaps they should be kept separate from where the visitors walk around.
7,1 Good
Pros: It was an ok accommodation for the one night we stayed.
Cons: It was not far from the bay but we had to drive to get food. We arrived in the evening and there was no food options nearby for delivery. Every option required us to drive to pick up or to go there. Our room had no bathroom door.

4,6 Okay
Cons: The first room had dampness/mold on the ceiling...we asked for a different room only to discover that the curtains were covered in dampness/mold from behind. The photos are misleading.
6,3 Good
Pros: Good view
Cons: The curtains were dirty / mold on them General cleanliness was good but a bad smell from mold and bathroom as well
5,0 Okay
Pros: The breakfast was good
Cons: The cleaning service was non existent. Room was only clean at 16:40 PM after it was requested (twice) I do and see they are busy upgrading the property. then it is no excuse for poor service
4,6 Okay
Pros: The location gets a 10 out of 10 and thats all, the Hotel is in bad need of paint, repairs and it is filthy
Cons: Even the insides of the lifts were dirty, very dirty
4,6 Okay
Pros: The view and the breakfast were the only good things you can say about this hotel.
Cons: It was dirty inside and the entrance outside had a dirty rag in front of the door, there was filthy water running from the air conditioner onto the balcony which made it treacherous, the drain on the balcony was disgusting and who knows what would be growing in there! The bedding was awful see photos. The TV had one channel and when I asked reception about it he said there are nine more channels but they’re all Indian as the owner and most of the guests are usually Indian! I will be writing to the hotel grading council to complain.
5,0 Okay
Pros: Location was stunning but you must expect the roar of the ocean if you stay on the ocean.
Cons: Rooms look cold and uninviting. Two single beds pushed together. TV did not work. Towels worn and stained. Shower needs proper cleaning and mould scum removed.
1,0 Poor
Pros: The rooms are a good size and the view from the room is beautiful
Cons: The breakfast was a disaster, no coffee machine working, toasters broken, table cloths dirty, the spread was limited and what was available wasn't of good quality. The Hotel is advertised as 4 star but really don't know how this could be their rating. It does not compare well even with a 1 star hotel. There is no room service, could not assist with a pamphlet of the Spa services, the telephone in the room does not work so you cant let them know about the things wrong unless you walk to the reception. They did not even provide extra toilet paper, we had to go and ask for that. We were really very disappointed and felt done in! Very high price to pay for nothing.

Pros: We stayed at 94 on Rodger for two nights & it was perfect! We had room 1, it has beautiful big bath, the bed is super comfortable & it was the best cooked breakfast we’ve had yet!! The house is beautifully designed & quality furnishings & very stylish. The staff were really accommodating and eager to help with everything. We’d highly recommend staying here & would definitely return!

Pros: Pulling up to the guesthouse we didn’t think much of it as it looks a little run down from outside. We were on our way through to Capetown from Knysna and wanted to spend the night to cut the driving distance and now certainly regret we didn’t spend more time in Mossel bay and at this guesthouse. Truly amazing place and with the nicest host we’ve met so far! Can highly recommend spending some time here!
