Better signage when returning rental, it gets difficult to read when trying to drive and read with others trying to return and figure out what road and ramp to take to return garageReviewed Mar 19 2024

Our pickup experience was horrible!! At first, the man I spoke with was very nice and picking up the car was easy. I installed the car seat (ridiculous they charge for these, they are legally required for safety) and went to pick up my husband and son at our hotel. When we tried to get my son in the seat, we realized the straps would not tighten properly on the seat. The drivers seat was also too high to the ceiling for my torso height causing my view of the road to be blocked by the rear view mirror. We returned to the rental counter to get a new car seat and swap vehicles. It was 10:05 am or so at this point. We did not get on the road until 11:30AM due to so much back and forth trying to do a simple car seat and vehicle swap. We were repeatedly told to go to the wrong area for assistance, and had to drive through the Boston airport property each time to get there only to be told nobody could help us. It was extremely frustrating and delayed our trip by hours. Our poor toddler was stuck in his car seat for way more time than necessary as a result. Horrible experience.Reviewed Nov 15 2023

We rented a compact SUV to be picked up on Friday at 7PM. We arrived to the rental car center to find no lines at all other vendors and a line of what had to be 100 people waiting for cars at Thrifty. There was one poor employee that looked like he was going to cry. The line was long because they had no cars. We received no notification that there were no cars. We were driving at least two hours north to New Hampshire so we made a whole new reservation with Avis. I have been told I can submit that reservation to make up for the difference in price for the purchase at Thrifty. How is this ok when they were significantly overbooked and had no product?! Will never book this way again.Reviewed Nov 13 2023

Good experience. I had a minor problem (of my own making) and a gentleman named Oral at the dropoff customer service booth was outstanding and went the extra mile!! Hopefully this gets to his personnel file rating - he is a great face for Thrifty!!Reviewed Oct 9 2023

Pros:Nothing. They booked a cer for over 20 people in my flight and when we got to the pickup area there were no cars available.Cons:Know what is in inventory so you dont over sell and leave people stranded for hours at an airport.Reviewed Jun 1 2021

Pros:The car didn't break down.Cons:Adequate staff. The line was 2 hours long one person working while all the other rental companies had an average of 3 people working with no lines. The car provided was not as ordered , we ordered a fill size SUV and was given a 7 passenger kia with no room for luggage and could barely accommodate three car seats. After standing in line for 2 hours I took the car as we still had a 2-hour drive ahead of us. When I called 50 they were closed. I called them the next day and was put on hold for 1 hr and 15 min trying to get them to deliver me a different car. I never spoke to anyone and the call was dropped after waiting that long . We never got the car as ordered and they are still trying to charge me for the full size SUV. I will never rent from them again or Dollar.Reviewed May 31 2021

This size of vehicle is particularly well-suited for exploring popular tourist destinations like Fenway Park, the Freedom Trail, and Beacon Hill.
  • Bustling streets and heavy traffic are a staple of Boston life, especially during peak commute hours in the early weekday mornings and evenings. The city's historic layout, with narrow roads and complex intersections, often contributes to congestion. The numerous colleges and universities in the area can likewise contribute to increased traffic, especially during the academic year. Traveling outside rush hours whenever possible is key to minimizing unnecessary time spent behind the wheel. Visitors should also note that pedestrian foot traffic tends to be heavy year-round and at all hours, so it’s extra important for drivers in the area to be patient and attentive. It is also important to keep in mind that Boston has a number of one-way roads. Be sure to remain vigilant about signage in the area.
  • Boston offers a range of parking choices for visitors, though availability and pricing can vary depending on the area and time of day. Metered parking is available on city streets, with posted rates and time limits. There are also numerous parking garages and lots conveniently situated in popular neighborhoods that provide both hourly and daily parking options, such as the Boston Common Garage. If you are driving a Thrifty car rental and are unfamiliar with the area, be sure to pay close attention to the signs marking street parking and parking garages to avoid tickets and towing.
  • Those looking to rent Thrifty car rentals in Boston should consider enrolling in their rewards program, known as Blue Chip Rewards. It's a free program that allows members to earn points for every qualifying rental, which can then be redeemed for free rental days or other valuable travel rewards. As a Blue Chip member, you also get to enjoy expedited service at participating locations, allowing you to bypass the regular rental counter and get on the road faster.
