9,0 Excellent
Pros: I loved the set up of the room, the classical music on arrival, and the aroma (bergamot) in the room. Space and comfort was perfect after a long drive.
Cons: I could hear the guest in the next room (thin walls) and layout for using coffee/kettle could be better placed, plus the lamps in the lounge area of the room were not working for some reason.

Cons: Disappointed that I was there for only 1 night!

Pros: Classy decor, clean throughout. Location is great in central manchester. Rooms are well equipped, we had cheapest room but it still had a bathroom bigger than most hotel rooms in manchester! Coffee maker, bug tv, comfy bed. Hotel gas a rooftop bar with table service which was excellent. Staff are bang in form!
Cons: Oh hotel gotham... those drinks prices! Its expensive! Two cocktails and a bowl of crisps came to over thirty pounds! They were lovely, but you would expect them to be for that price!!

Pros: One of the best hotels I've had the pleasure of staying in. And I've stayed in a LOT of hotels.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: What an absolutely fabulous themed hotel.I loved all the little additions to authenticate its namesake. I loved the newspapers pointing out the rooms. I liked the security aspects of swiping the keys to allow you to your room. The guys on consierge were so helpful and attention to detail was superb. They parked our car for us and when we got back to the hotel after shopping all day they had already put our suitcases into our car. Absolutely brilliant customer care. The girls on the reception were smilling and helpful and even though we were in a quewe they still acknowledged us. We spent a few hours in the bar upstairs and again the staff were exceptional .I have stayed in some pretty amazing hotels all around the world but this is definatly one of my favourites. The only negative I have is that our room was very small and the bed was pushed up against the wall but I was told that it was the last room in the hotel that I could book and was told that it was a small room. Overall a brilliant stay . Well done . Kind Regards Elaine Charles
Cons: Alarger room would have been preferable.

Pros: Fantastic location with great facilities. Room was large with a super comfortable bed.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: One of the best hotels I've stayed in for a quite some time, from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. Who ever carries out the "staff training" has done an excellent job. We 1,000% be back.
Cons: It took me so long to stay for the first time as I've always stayed in a few different locations, I'll check out this hotel as a priority from now on. If I were to list a complaint it would be a blatant lie, cracking hotel.

Pros: Everything. The room was fully equipped and very spacious! Our favourite features were the multiple TV’s & 2 toilets. (Stayed in many places without multiple).
Cons: Honestly, there wasn’t anything we disliked. The price was a little steep & each morning we woke up with awful back pain with the mattress being a little on the tough side. (But not the end of the world).

Cons: We booked a suit got there realized it was small, stayed 2 nights and took an extra room.Day 3 we booked a two bedroom suit which really isn't it's just them bringing two rooms together. We were shown a suit with a balcony & since my artist is super claustrophobic and has a lot of luggage we agreed to that.Upon going to pay they claimed someone booked that particular room for 2 nights and we booked it right with them less than an hr ago for 3 nights. These super racist hotel people just because the person was black almost even lied they never showed us the room.We left the hotel and booked a huge 3 bedroom penthouse suit somewhere else.Mind u we had no issues we these people we just decided to leave after realizing it was more of a racist thing, I forgot to mention their services suck, they barely help with anything like umbrellas and opening doors smh we never even had a conversation with any one except the manager the day we left but go this email today claiming we were rude to their guests.

Pros: The room was lovely, clean and comfortable, very stylish, on arrival and departure the staff were very pleasant. The restaurant was lovely food. Great location
Cons: When I booked this room it said (possible noise from bar) so that is what I expected, until I got back into my room and the DJ music from underneath was so loud and full of base that I may aswel have been in the bar myself. Don't be fooled this is a noise you are not getting away from until 2am. The specification should be more clear when people are booking. Staff at midnight were not helpful at all!

Pros: This hotel is the closest to the Town Hall/Albert Square. Getting there from the train station cannot be easier; the tram stops right in the corner, a few steps away. It is close to everything in downtown Manchester. Very comfortable beds. Very large bathroom. There were many airline employees all the time, so I guess they know it is comfortable and very convenient.
Cons: Room was odd shape without good views, but it was not bad.

Pros: My stay was for 4 nights, Beds were super comfortable, staff was superb and rooms were spacious.
9,7 Excellent
Pros: The location can't be beat-. Close to shipping, bars and the Christmas markets. Could not have been happier with my choice. As a major plus, the staff was amazingly helpful.
7,1 Good
Pros: The decor in the main reception areas was pleasant
Cons: The rooms are basic and the shower/ bathroom was poor. The shower strength was one of the worst I’ve ever known in a hotel
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, convenient for metro stop in St Peter's Square. Stark modern decor in public rooms and bedrooms. Comfortable bed. Breakfast standard business-hotel type. Slightly impersonal feel
Cons: More chopped fresh fruit for breakfast
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great central location. This was our base for a Christmas shopping trip and the hotel is very close to the shops and the fabulous Christmas Markets. The room was comfortable and spacious with everything that you would expect from a 4 star hotel. The icing on the cake was the staff and the food. All of the staff that we came into contact with were extremely helpful, friendly and efficient. There was a warmth and a genuine desire to please. In particular, Anna on reception and Head Chef, Anthony, who went the extra mile to turn an enjoyable stay into a truly memorable one. Nothing was too much trouble for them. And the food was amazing! My wife and I both have food allergies which were catered for with flare and imagination. Chef prepared separate breakfasts for us and the evening meals were outstanding. Chef prepared a special surprise dessert which was just awesome! We will definitely be back whenever we visit Manchester in the future (we are already trying to think of a reason to spend time in Manchester again)
Cons: As is common in many hotel rooms, the lighting is inadequate in the bedrooms.

8,8 Excellent
Pros: We stayed at ABode for one night in one of the Winston Suite. The location is very central - about 3 minutes' walk from Piccadilly Station and the same again from Piccadilly Gardens. The area has been considerably gentrified in recent years and is a safe place to walk around even late at night. I don't know what ABode was before it was a hotel, but it's a lovely old building with gorgeous old tiles, wood panelling, hardwood floors and vintage posters everywhere. The bathroom was large and well appointed (lovely toiletries!), and the huge bed was very comfortable. The staff were very helpful and professional. A very good Manchester city centre hotel.
Cons: The suite we were in was on the 5th floor at the front of the building, but the street noise carried a long way. Parking is at a nearby car park - unavoidable, but no discount was offered.
6,3 Good
Pros: Staff friendly Nice to have a bath & shower Clean & Comfortable bed Adequate hangers for clothing, but nowhere to put case Tea & Coffee making facilities good
Cons: For what we paid a very small room Finish of décor was poor Sink in bathroom drained water very slowly Aircon switched itself off after about 30 seconds so room was stifling No fridge
10,0 Excellent
Pros: I loved the look and feel of the room - very chic and trendy. The room was very large and the high ceilings help make it feel open and welcoming!
Cons: The only issue was the lack of outlets in the bathroom. I would love to dry my hair in the bathroom and not the bedroom, but all in all I think that is normal in UK Hotels.

Pros: The receptionist - and size is the room
Cons: The bar staff’s attitude, and some of the waiting staff - they clearly are unhappy at their workplace
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were very friendly and helpful. Great Location
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Great location. Very clean. Got upgraded to junior suite which was a lovely bonus. Some quirky touches in room
Cons: Second time we’ve stayed here. Room alternated between being very cold (radiator didn’t work) during the day to bring too hot and stuffy at night (windows wouldn’t open ) . Air con got very noisy during the night so had to switch off Breakfast was a complete shambles. Staff were miserable to the point of being rude . Other guests who came in after us were served their food well before us. Food was ok but it took ten minutes for toast to arrive (despite having asked 3 times) by which point I’d almost finished my eggs. When it did arrive we were given two tiny pieces of toast, whereas every other couple had 4 slices. Daren’t even ask for a top up of coffee. There were 4 staff serving but the place was utter chaos. Thankfully we had a room rate with inclusive breakfast - breakfast was £15 pp otherwise and would not have been worth £30 to us . We travel a lot each week on business and this is the worst breakfast experience we’ve had - ironically this was a leisure trip ! A let down to what was otherwise a lovely stay!
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Room, decor, location excellent
Cons: Breakfast service poor and very slow.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Really great location. Loved the fact that there was a bar and a restaurant onsite. Staff were faultless, so lovely and so easy going - especially Josh, the host in the restaurant. He was great and definitely made our dining experience better. Rooms we're nice a spacious too - better than what I expected, then again, I didn't know what to expect because my partner made the booking. Overall, would deffos recommend to others / stay again :)
Cons: servers at breakfast were a little grumpy :/ but hey - it was early I guess.
5,0 Okay
Pros: Nice hotel good location. Nice staff.
Cons: The room required decorating. Ripped wall paper, large cobweb on lighting (I have a photo) bathroom was in need of a higher standard to decoration as poorly done in places, paint and shower sealant. Old air con unit and yellow coloured lights. No wardrobe and shelving I need if replacement. No room to pass the bed, difficult to get to shower. The noise of banging in the early hours 3am-4am and later was annoying. This sounded like stairs traffic and workmen not guests. Nice comfy bed and bedding, clean and nice new curtains. I would not recommend for £160 per night without breakfast.
7,1 Good
Pros: The location of the property was great, very central and the rooms were nice and clean, the staff on reception were helpful and check in and out was quick and hassle free
Cons: The breakfast was really nice but I feel as though there was more thought put into the presentation of the breakfast, we had breakfast both mornings and both mornings we had to ask for more orange juice and both breakfast came with at least 1 item missing, the staff were pleasant but there could have been a better service, the buffet area was bare most times.

Overview Reviews
With its clock tower and striking Victorian architecture, The Principal Manchester is an unmistakable landmark in the city's skyline. A magnificent, terracotta Grade II listed building, the hotel has a history dating back to 1890, when it first opened as The Refuge Assurance Company headquarters. Opposite Oxford Road Station and just a 10-minute walk from Manchester Piccadilly, The Principal Manchester is perfectly placed for business travel and weekend getaways, and is close to many of the city’s attractions.

Pros: Lovely building in a good location
Cons: Fire alarm at 3am, squeaky floorboards in room above kept us awake most of the night - no double glazing. Lots of noise from Oxford Road into the early hours. No parking on site. Lukewarm breakfast buffet despite being first in dining room waiting for food to come out of kitchen.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly welcoming staff. Loved the fact I got proper milk with my in room complimentary tea making facilities.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The building was beautiful, the decor was brilliant, staff helpful and pleasant.
Cons: Nothing
7,9 Good
Pros: The hotel is beautiful, from the lobby through to the bar and winter garden/den. It used to be an old assurance building and it makes a change from the run of the mill standard hotel rooms you can expect from the big chains
Cons: The air conditioning wasn’t working in the room, and because of the size of the room it was very cold. When reception were notified they did provide a heater. The shower tap also fell off, and the water was lukewarm in the morning. To be fair to the hotel when I told them this in the morning on checkout that did take some money from the total bill.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Our travel plans changed last minute, the hotel was extremely helpful & upgraded our room for one night as we’d paid for two. The reception staff were incredibly friendly and the decor around the hotel is outstanding.

Pros: Shower
Cons: No air con
7,0 Good
Pros: Fast, tasty room service. Staff were professional.
Cons: Radiators in room were on, on hottest day of the year the staff could have done more to turn it off. Construction happening outside room from early morning so could not open window either, no transfer offered. The room was nowhere near a 'deluxe' room.
5,0 Okay
Cons: The fire alarm went on twice at mid-night and there was no clear explanation at all. I had to ask when I checked out to find out what happened last night and the receptionist told me it was gas leaking and there was no sincere apologies for that when she told me what happened. I was expecting a relaxing night instead I didn’t sleep well at all.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Our stay was fab. Staff couldn't have been more helpful. Decor was gorgeous. Breakfast was great with plenty of selection, we ate in the garden room which was a lovely touch. I usually stay in another reputable chain however that has now changed. I will return to the Principal.

Pros: Room lovely and spacious. Nice products. Friendly, helpful staff. Beautiful building. Delicious breakfast.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely fell in love with this hotel from the moment we stepped through the doors. We were given a lovely quiet room where we barely heard anything from outside.
9,7 Excellent
Pros: This is a stunning building where most of the original features have been retained. The bar and restaurant is funky and modern yet in the most incongruous Victorian environment. Room was very high ceilinged and immaculately furnished and comedy and clean.
Cons: Downsides were no air con a bit cold and the place is a rabbit warren (though they do give you a map)
