T here was six of us that booked The Midland. Great looking hotel (but never judge a book by its cover)… We had the spa planned on Boxing Day and we’re told on the day early morning that the spa was closing at 16:30pm. We booked this hotel and spa months in advance and at no point we’re we told the spa would close early. Then we were told it’s fairly quiet you can use it before check-in as check in was at 16:00. We then got to the hotel early to be told we can’t use the spa till the next day!!! We then booked it for 10am. We spoke to reception and they said they couldn’t do much regarding the spa but gave us a late check out instead. The rooms are ‘luxury looking’ but not cleaned to the standard expected. We found chocolate bar wrapper and a ladies fake nail in our room. Clearly not cleaned to a high standard. Our shower was great until you start to realise it’s got a blockage and starts to flood. We rang to book our breakfast and we’re told we don’t need to book it “just turn up”. So we “turned up”. Upon arrival to the restaurant I asked how the breakfast works as I just wanted a glass of orange juice. We were informed, “nothing to worry about as it’s included in your booking.” I had a glass of orange juice however when I got to checking out I was being charged full price £12.50, for orange juice. I then had to speak to reception again whom wiped that off my bill. A nice experience but shocking communication! I’d like to say you get what you pay for but in this case u dont.
Pros. The Midland Hotel is an impressive building in an excellent location. I found the staff invariably professional, courteous and attentive at all times, no matter what their area of expertise. My room was large, sumptuous and beautifully quiet. Ample desk and coffee table space with several arm chairs, and a dressing area, beyond which was the spacious en-suite bathroom. Plenty of available electrical outlets, good sized TV, mini fridge, tea/coffee facilities and sparkly glassware rounded off the in-room facilities very nicely. Room service food was priced fairly and arrived promptly and piping hot.
Cons. There could have been better / more lighting in the dressing area in order to take advantage of the full length mirrors. And the air-conditioning controls were a bit fiddly to adjust - a remote control might have been a better option.
Pros. Fantastic hotel, couldn’t fault it!
Pros. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Our teenage son didn't want to join us for breakfast one morning, I therefore asked the breakfast staff If I could take some croissants up to the room for him, of which they were more than happy for us to do.
Pros. The spa, the room, the really comfy bed!
Cons. Nothing :)
Pros. Friendly professional staff and very comfortable beds.
Pros. A superb building. The room had lovely furniture. We really enjoyed our stay.
