Pros: This is a nice, modern hotel with friendly staff and clean and tidy rooms. There are little things that make it special. They have a cold box in the room. 8,0 Excellent
Pros: Proximity to the airport.
Cons: Bar prices the same as Perth, Australia.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Proximity to airport terminal and railway. Clean and spacious rooms. Swimming pool.
10,0 Excellent
Cons: The draft beer options leave a lot to be desired
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean and u don’t get penalised for being a single traveller by being allocated a smaller room
Cons: It would be nice if there was assistance from the hotel to the terminal for disabled. It’s a long way even via the moving travelators. However these were out of order when I stayed which made things very difficult. There may be this service, however I didn’t ask and therefore underestimated how it would affect me.
6,8 Good
Pros: It has a 12m pool and an okay gym. It is the best located hotel because it's right in the airport walkways.
Cons: This hotel is starting to look past its best. The restaurant and bar were okay. The food wasn't up to the standard I'd expect for the prices. It was up to commercial catering standards but the kitchen is run by cooks.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful staff from concierge and reception. Quickest check in to a hotel I ever been to and baby cot as requested in the room when we arrived. Excellent service.
Cons: Seated at restaurant a little quicker.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location for an early flight
Cons: First room had no view/wall view even though we’d booked/paid for runway views...the staff soon moved us to a room with a great view!
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff , Great location
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Very very quiet room with huge bed and nice surroundings
Cons: All was good
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Brilliant stay however the only equlipse was the IRD burger which was underwhelming. Apart from that all was brilliant and staff as usual were superb... Thank you..
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Super room (standard twin), spacious plus very comfy bed and pillows. I slept very well, no noise at all so well insulated. Immaculate and beautifully designed. Easy to find and reach on foot via the undercover walkway.
Cons: Hotel quite expensive. Restaurant was a bit of a let down. Couldn’t understand waiters (I’m British!) though they were very polite. I asked what the salmon filet came with? Was told it was ‘lots of steamed vegetables’ actually it was very strange - hot salmon on a bed of lettuce with a few sauteed potatoes. Very average. Wine I selected by the glass Pino Grigio ( small) was an exorbitant £10 per glass. I sent it back as it was undrinkable in my opinion ( very very sweet, ugh pale yellow colour)!
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Staff are wonderfully welcoming - rooms are comfortable, clean and well-stocked with necessities.
Cons: Dinner menu is extremely limited and not good value for money.

Pros: Location the best, stayed here many times before and always my first choice hotel in Manchester. , decor nice, bed comfy and large newly refurbished lobby and restaurant since my last visit looked really good, gym is excellent probably one of the best hotel gyms I’ve used. Staff in all departments helpful
Cons: There should really be better refreshments in room. Coffee was poor, instant and only 2 sachets offered, no complimentary water, no biscuits. For a hotel of a fantastic standard in all other respects in room refreshments were disappointing. Nespresso machine would make the stay perfect
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Staff make a real effort
8,0 Excellent
Cons: My room needed refurbishment. Everything was a little old and tired.

Pros: The cleansers were super nice people Dear Madame. Because of your totally unacceptable behaviour, to our Guests and Staff, we will no longer be accepting any further bookings from you, and indeed you are not welcome at all in this Hotel . No further correspondence from yourself, will be responded to from Edwardian Hotels. Cons: We booked a suit got there realized it was small, stayed 2 nights and took an extra room.Day 3 we booked a two bedroom suit which really isn't it's just them bringing two rooms together. We were shown a suit with a balcony & since my artist is super claustrophobic and has a lot of luggage we agreed to that.Upon going to pay they claimed someone booked that particular room for 2 nights and we booked it right with them less than an hr ago for 3 nights. These super racist hotel people just because the person was black almost even lied they never showed us the room.We left the hotel and booked a huge 3 bedroom penthouse suit somewhere else.Mind u we had no issues we these people we just decided to leave after realizing it was more of a racist thing, I forgot to mention their services suck, they barely help with anything like umbrellas and opening doors smh we never even had a conversation with any one except the manager the day we left but go this email today claiming we were rude to their guests.

Cons: We were woken up at 8:30am both mornings by the sound of drilling which wasn’t ideal .
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Staff were friendly and incredibly helpful.
Cons: Spa was disappointing. Water in waterfall showers and jacuzzi was too hot (no one was able to enjoy the jacuzzi although staff said they thought it was the right temperature) and stream room was not working. So that only left a very cramped sauna and the pool.

Pros: Everything else ,great hosts , lovely and clean, parking and great breakfast
Cons: Bit of road noise
5,8 Okay
Pros: Clean enough and breakfasts were freshly cooked.
Cons: We were a bit surprised to find full payment taken several weeks in advance when it's advertised as no prepayment required. We were also a bit surprised to arrive, and immediately be asked what we wanted for breakfast the following morning - the lady checking us in seemed astonished that we might want to decide in the morning, at breakfast time, not the night before. (Clearly when they say 'made to order' they mean like a sofa, ordered for later delivery, not like any other hotel or B&B, or restaurant, or cafe ...) Apparently we'd been sent an email about our breakfast options, but having checked, it certainly never turned up. Interestingly, breakfast coffee was served in a cafetiere/French press, although this was clearly just being used as a jug - the lack of any grounds in the bottom was a giveaway - and the coffee had already been made. I assume that this wasn't a daft attempt to fool guests into thinking their coffee had been freshly plunged, but I did wonder why else they might have chosen to use cafetieres. The room was noisy - to be fair, that wasn't a surprise, as it does advertise its main road position - but we didn't sleep too badly considering the trucks going past to the nearby distribution centres. We were, however, woken somewhere between 0600 and 0630 on our last day, a Sunday, by noise travelling down from the room above - clearly the occupants there were heavy-footed enough to overcome any sound insulation there may be. Finally, we emailed to say we were likely to arrive and check in between 2100 and 2200, but that, because we had a long drive, we would let them know if there were any unexpected delays. The reply said "just please note that we close at 10pm therefore there will be no access to the property after this time." This felt extremely unfriendly, and when we ran into some unusually heavy traffic early on, it was very stressful to fear we might arrive to find the doors barred.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very friendly, kind and helpful. Everywhere was very clean and the bedding was really soft and smooth. It was a beautiful building, with a lovely bright open dining room.

Cons: The only improvement to be made would be the breakfast. We found the breakfast to be disappointing compared to other hotels we have used in this hotel chain. Pros: Location was good
Cons: Didn’t seem very clean, curtains were dirty and the bathroom seemed like it needed a good scrub. Not many toiletries and the painting needs touching up

Pros: This hotel is the closest to the Town Hall/Albert Square. Getting there from the train station cannot be easier; the tram stops right in the corner, a few steps away. It is close to everything in downtown Manchester. Very comfortable beds. Very large bathroom. There were many airline employees all the time, so I guess they know it is comfortable and very convenient.

Pros: Stayed a few times
Cons: Lift wasn’t working, and we was on 3rd floor Breakfast used to be great now it’s ok, took 20mins to arrive
6,3 Good
Pros: Staff friendly Nice to have a bath & shower Clean & Comfortable bed Adequate hangers for clothing, but nowhere to put case Tea & Coffee making facilities good
Cons: For what we paid a very small room Finish of décor was poor Sink in bathroom drained water very slowly Aircon switched itself off after about 30 seconds so room was stifling No fridge
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The room was nice size lovely and clean, the English breakfast I ordered wasn’t very good at all however the continental breakfast was really good which made up for it. The meal we had booked was really nice, enjoyed it.
Cons: The fact there was no window in the hotel room that you could open or even see through and the English breakfast wasn’t nice at all if I’m honest. Other than that everything was good overall and worth the money
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Lovely rooms and a great location
Cons: Always feel breakfast could be a little more generous for the price and the service is always very slow. Room service breakfast that was ordered was appallingly slow and as this was requested to make a special day start stress free it’s lateness created a lot of unneeded stress!

Pros: There was air conditioning which was great in the muggy weather. The hotel is in a great position. The bed was super comfortable and the shower was excellent! Staff members were very helpful regarding the lift issue.
Cons: The double room wasn't as big as the hotel's photos made it look...it was quite small. There was no fridge in the room. The lift was broken for the duration of our stay.

Cons: Slightly small room.

Pros: Spacious room Good breakfast Helpful staff
Cons: Room too hot and unable to open windows Bath plug broken too
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel smelt very nice
9,7 Excellent
Pros: The Midland Hotel is an impressive building in an excellent location. I found the staff invariably professional, courteous and attentive at all times, no matter what their area of expertise. My room was large, sumptuous and beautifully quiet. Ample desk and coffee table space with several arm chairs, and a dressing area, beyond which was the spacious en-suite bathroom. Plenty of available electrical outlets, good sized TV, mini fridge, tea/coffee facilities and sparkly glassware rounded off the in-room facilities very nicely. Room service food was priced fairly and arrived promptly and piping hot.
Cons: There could have been better / more lighting in the dressing area in order to take advantage of the full length mirrors. And the air-conditioning controls were a bit fiddly to adjust - a remote control might have been a better option.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely hotel & great location.
Cons: Nothing. Only thing that might have been better was a choice to order specific breakfast instead of having no option but to pay £20 for a buffet when might not be wanting much at that time of day.

Pros: I liked the décor of the room, the size and comfort of the bed. I liked the lounge area, and the furnishings. The bathroom was newly fitted. the room was very clean. The communal corridor was nicely decorated with lovely carpet

Overview Reviews
With its clock tower and striking Victorian architecture, The Principal Manchester is an unmistakable landmark in the city's skyline. A magnificent, terracotta Grade II listed building, the hotel has a history dating back to 1890, when it first opened as The Refuge Assurance Company headquarters. Opposite Oxford Road Station and just a 10-minute walk from Manchester Piccadilly, The Principal Manchester is perfectly placed for business travel and weekend getaways, and is close to many of the city’s attractions.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything it was amazing what a fantastic hotel
Cons: Nothing
6,3 Good
Pros: .Very good breakfast offering - staff pleasant and willing to help
Cons: Thought general cleanliness was short of what would be expected of a 5* hotel. Had to move room as leaking tap in bathroom and no air conditioning. Bar closed at 11pm!
9,3 Excellent
Pros: The hotel reception is fabulous, as you enter you will enjoy the design. The rooms have a very tall ceiling which is significantly appreciated by me. This is not common in the UK as buildings over all are not tall.
Cons: The rooms have a fan which works perfectly most of the time but I am not sure how it would work in a hot summer day as there is not any central air conditioning system.
6,3 Good
Pros: Good central location, stunning lobby and friendly staff. Nice looking rooms and architecture
Cons: Noise all night from screeching trains right next to the hotel. Hottest day of the year and our room didn’t have air con, just a fan that was blowing warm air, could only open the windows a few inches and had an unusually warm floor. Was unbearable so had to get a room change in the middle of the night. Changed into a room with air con which was better but still had the noise from the trains

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very good selection of items for breakfast and hot and fresh.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything, it is a lovely old building which has been sympathetically updated to a hotel. We were made to feel special from start to finish, we even got upgraded as we were celebrating a special occasion. It was the little things that counted such as the tuck box which was in the room and complimentary, the fresh milk in the fridge for your coffee and the turn down service on the night. We were even given a bottle of water when we left. Great location and very close to the theatre. I cannot recommend this hotel enough.
Cons: Nothing
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely fell in love with this hotel from the moment we stepped through the doors. We were given a lovely quiet room where we barely heard anything from outside.
5,8 Okay
Pros: The cleanliness of the hotel

Pros: Location was great for Piccadilly Station and heading out in the Northern Quarter
Cons: N/A
5,7 Okay
Pros: The double tree is a nice hotel at first glance. I found the staff at the front desk were not the most welcoming but that wasn't the biggest problem. The room was comfortable for the most part and me and my companion were looking foward to a nice stay.
Cons: The shower had two choices, freeze or burn. It was nearly impossible to get the shower at a normal temperature which was a huge issue. But we were only there for 2 nights so decided it would be better to give it another try than moving rooms. On our second night which was a Saturday we were awoken at 4 am by a group of drunk girls that were screaming down the hallway. I felt like I was transported to the worst spring break all inclusive. I called the reception 3 times and in all fairness they came up every time to get those stupid girls to shut up. Then their guy friends came from the party minutes later and started retaliating to help their skanky girlfriends. They were standing outside of our door yelling obscenities. I called again and eventually the noise stopped but at that point I had one more hour before having to get on a train to the airport so my entire night was ruined. While they were definitely responsive to the times I called they should have kicked these people out. What kind of reputation do you want to have? I know that on my next visit to Manchester staying at the double tree and staying at the hatters is pretty much the same. If you want to maintain an upscale reputation then be more selective about who you let stay in you hotel or at the very least have your front staff make the rules clear when these drunken idiots tumble in through the door of your hotel.
