Houston hotels near Houston Public Library

Cons: Reading online that this hotel had a remodel in 2011, I wasn't expecting it to be perfect and pristine, but it was even less than I expected. The carpets coming off the elevator to our floor were stained and looked dirty. Entering the room, everything looked ok, but there was a definite smell to the room. Not overpowering, but not good either. Kind of musty/humid/moldy smelling. The tv was on a dresser not facing the bed, or any of the chairs in the room, so I'm not sure how one is supposed to view it. We were there for one night before our appointment at the MDAnderson Cancer Center, and though we will be making many trips there over the next few years, I'm not sure we will stay at this hotel again. For the price ($156 after taxes), I was expecting better.

Cons: Paint on walls were bubbled and messy. Cords carelessly stretched around the room looking disorganized. Bathroom needed refinishing, caulk was black and just seemed dirty.

Cons: No minibar,, no vending machines ,no smoking- but no balconies !!!! I expected a high class, luxury hotel..... I found myself regretting the choice immediately upon arrival in the room... No minibar, (then why did they take a 400 dollar deposit from my card without mentioning it, in addition to my paying the 600 up front for the two days I was staying there.??????!!?..... Which will take a week to be put back on my card...... No soda or vending machines, closest 24 hr place to get snacks is 3 miles away.... They charged me over 60 dollars in overnight parking fees without ever asking me whet make or model or license plate number... I didn't even have a car with me on this trip- staff were condescending and rude about my attempting to address these and other issues..... Don't stay here Houston is big no shortage of alternatives that are not a waste if minry

Cons: The valet was decent. It's about $34 a night after tax for one car, but it is downtown Houston. They are very quick about getting your car ready for you when you call for it. At night we called valet for a cab and went down 10 minutes later and they said it had not arrived yet. My group waited 10 more minutes inside the garage before the valet guy told us to stand on the street and try to get one. What is the point of calling ahead for a cab if they wanted us to go flag one down ourselves. There is no on site self parking, but there is a small private owned parking lot connected to the right of the hotel which is $10/ a day where my friend left his car. Check your bill before you leave!! I was charged an extra $20 dollars for "long distance calls." I didn't realize it was considered long distance to call valet down stairs... They were happy to take it off, but I'm glad I checked it.

Cons: Management was very unprofessional and rude de when handling services charges and fees.

Cons: Manager was hot/cold. Our expedia reservation was ow to co.e thru so we went for dinner. We asked if they would honor the rate for a second room and the manager said sure and then proceeded to put tax on top of the all inclusive rate I asked him to match. It was only $22 but still it was not what the rate was. At this point the manager intisted on staring me down to get me to praise and agree with him that he was doing me a major favor. Are we iin 3rd grade and he is my teacher? Really? I should have walked out but we were exhausted from Bush was travel as I was just returning on a pit stop from ASIA. We checked out the next morning from this under co struction hotel and stayed at Marriot the balance of the week for business. Guess customer first is something of a scarce commodity here at the top level mtg. Underlings were actually fabulous surprisingly. Bottom line - overpriced for what you get compared to elsewhere.

Cons: Everything had a tagged-on extra charge to it, including delivery charges for room service. What is the alternative - pick up from kitchen? Breakfast costs $30, which makes no sense for a continental buffet in a hotel.

Cons: The agency ( Kayak ) didnot my reservation to the hotel i was stuck for 4 hours with no solution , later on I got email with refund.

Cons: There was no ramp for my rolling luggage between the parking garage and the hotel elevator. This, however, was a minor inconvenience.

Cons: DO NOT USE VALET- They will damage your car for $32 per night and then give you the run around for MONTHS, never to repair your vehicle. Townepark is responsible, but you trust the hotel to hire a professional parking company right? No one knows their head from their butt at this company-- no one ever knew who was in charge or who to ask between the manager at Weston to the manager at Townepark, to the claims adjuster who just refused to cover any part of the damage whatsoever, but was quick to call me personally and tell me why she didn't agree with my email when I complained. Very, very irritating-- the least they could do was refund the parking cost, but even that was too much to ask. I will NOT be parking there ever again, but I will also not be staying at the Westin ever again. Prior to this, I stayed there at least twice per year for business. The quality of the rooms is hit or miss-- the décor is ugly for the price and expectations of the Westin, EVERYTHING is overpriced. There is no bell service unless you want to wait with your bags in the middle of the lobby for an hour. Elevators are painfully slow, and shut on my stroller twice without a safety release. I was injured on one occasion. Why don't the doors bounce back when they hit someone? I just refuse to ever go here again. It was such a horrible experience from start to finish.

Cons: I was placed in a room next to construction. I was unaware I would be put in this room where I would be listening to construction work while I'm trying to relax in the room. The hotel knew of this and should have let this room out as a last place option with full disclosure to the guest and probably at a reduced rate. I know there were other rooms available since I was offered another room, but by that time I was leaving for the rest of the work day, so it would have been pointless to change rooms, not to mention very inconvenient.

Cons: Perhaps if we stay there in the future, we can give an honest review

Cons: Bedding was dirty, stained. Room was littered in dust around windows. The towels had an unpleasant smell of mildew. Room service for breakfast was incredibly expensive for quality received. Overall unhappy with stay.

Cons: You should make I clear that the room service charge is 24%. That is incredible and gouging. Our order did not come and when it did come was not what we ordered. I am under the impression that this hotel is understaffed and depends on uninformed people who come only one time to visit the Galleria Mall. Also, there are two Westins at the Galleria and that is not made clear in your offer. We went to the wrong one and wasted precious time. Not a good experience.

Cons: Fire alarm kept going off Saturday night. Security said that a guest was taking a shower and opened the bathroom door and the steam set off the alarm. That doesn't make any sense since people open steamy bathroom doors all the time to cool down after a hot shower. It was a very stressful, terrifying, sleepless night. Never again!
