Cons:First, I couldn't get the car I reserved, the employee did not care and they over charged me for the car as I had booked a premium car and did not get it. Second, once we found the car, when we opened the doors, all we could smell was cigarettes, and there were ashes, food crumbs, dirt and greasy door handles. Filthy car, we pulled out our own cleaning supplies to clean it. Third, we complained to one of the employees, and they acted like they did not understand English. I will never use them again.Reviewed Nov 8 2020

Pros:Vehicle had plenty of room. Easy pick up and drop off. Price was good.Cons:Interior smelled bad, when we could crack open the windows it would be fine. They told us they do NOT recognize the extra insurance I purchased while making my reservation. That made my trip a bit uneasy because I was Worried about not being covered properly even though I purchased extra insurance through Kayak site. Front tire low, kept getting warning signal and oil check light would come on. They also said we had to provide a receipt from where we last filled the tank and it had to be within 10 miles of drop off.........that was new never heard that before.Reviewed Oct 9 2018

Thrifty's business practices are highly unethicalPros:Nothing.Cons:I had a reservation for a rental pickup at the Salt Lake City airport, with a confirmation email which quoted $625 in total for a 5 day rental. When we arrived at the car rental desk, they were able to immediately pull up my name and reservation, but with a revised quote in excess of $2,500 for the same time period. I thought it had to be a reserve for insurance or something but it was the correct quote provided by the system. The agent failed to point out that this was more than 400% in excess of my confirmation email and behaved very sheepishly when I asked about it. Thank God i did not sign anything before i asked for clarification. He stated it was based on market demand on a holiday weekend and I was there before noon and should come back 1 1/2 hours later and see what revised quote the system would provide then. I was not impressed with that response.      I asked to see the manager. He was very defensive and after looking into the system stated the high rate was justified under the terms and conditions regardless of my confirmation because I was there more than 30 minutes before my pickup time. I found this pretty funny as my wife had already rented a 7 seater backup vehicle from another carrier when they quoted this sky high rate for less than $400. Incredulous, I asked the agent what his monthly car payment was and if they thought $600+/day was a reasonable rate for anyone to pay for renting a car. The manager (wearing a Hertz shirt) berated me for making this comment. Thankfully, I was able to get a print out of the current screen quote (still $2,400+) before he demanded I leave the desk, as he was very concerned about other customers hearing what had just transpired.   Another interesting fact - I was there with other family members renting separate vehicles. My cousin who had already picked up his Hertz vehicle was able to get a quote for a backup vehicle (minivan) for me from Hertz for $670 while I was talking with the Thrifty/Hertz manager at the Thrifty desk. Needless to say, the market rate argument is completely bogus and a less diligent customer may have signed the statement without checking it carefully and have been swindled. It is highway robbery and would make an interesting side story on major news networks I would imagine, regardless of the wording in the fine print of the T&Cs. Unsurprisingly, I am extremely dissatisfied and disgusted with both Thrifty and Hertz, which I considered a reputable rental car company prior to this incident. Mostly I'm shocked as this seems to be a standard business practice and there was zero accountability from either the agent or the manager on the ground in SLC. Shameful. All should be extremely vigilant before they sign anything with either carrier, as well.Reviewed Jul 6 2016

Pros:The pick up at the SLC airport was horrible as I had to wait in line for over an hour to pick up the car. There was only 1 staff member for Thrifty and on 1 staff member for Dollar which made the entire process VERY slow. On the other hand the drop off at LAX was VERY easy/excellent, and a service representative came right over and checked me and the car out.Cons:There could have been more service representatives at the rental counter to make it so that so many people did not have to wait over an hour to pick up their car. Everyone was complaining regarding the lack of service representatives at the rental counter.Reviewed Mar 26 2021

Pros:The staff was friendly, the new terminal in SLC is gorgeous, but as a caution there seems to be no carts anywhere. Keep your eye open as they are clearly a commodity! Car was nice, albeit not what I booked, and very clean. Check out/in was super speedy.Cons:Very long lines and wait as Dollar and Thrifty counters were handled by the same desk, and classic bait and switch on the car booked and what we received. I know that it's not guaranteed, but I wouldn't even put the two cars in the same class. I was told I could upgrade for "not much more per day" but it was nearly double which is pretty laughable.Reviewed Nov 9 2020

Pros:The staff was not there even though I gave our flight arrival time and the business hours said they would be there till 1 am. We arrived at 11pm. We ended up renting from another company.Cons:It could have been better if the business was own for the hours it says they are. If your arrival time does not fit in their hours of business, the online program needs to not let you put that time in.Reviewed Apr 15 2020

Cons:Waited over 30 minutes for car. Bait and switched me to an upgrade. I realized when I got to the Thrifty parking garage that they didn’t have a mid size SUV anyway, so upgrade ($140) should have been on Thrifty. Buyer beware-not what I would call good business practice.Reviewed Mar 2 2021
