Pros: Everything, located right beside the metro (which is very clean, efficient and safe in Rio), many restaurants, bus stops etc. Everywhere in Rio can be reached reasonably quickly from here. The staff were fantastically kind and professional. The hotel was spotless clean and had two lovely bars, the roof bar is highly recommended for nice views. I will return to Rio in future and I will absolutely stay here.

Cons: The walls are a bit thin here so you can here a lot of stuff going on in the hallways. To be honest this seems like a Brazilian thing rather than just this hotel. I’ve stayed in a few places across Brazil with thin walls. I barely noticed but my girlfriend did notice. She’s a very light sleeper but it didn’t actually affect her sleep (we were too tired from exploring Rio!).

Cons: There was some difference in the price of two different reservations. No apparent reason to charge different cost and I couldn’t get my voucher to check why. Just keep this on mind since costumers need to have the information at the moment of check out to avoid this kind of inconvenient with recepcionist at the front desk. In addition, check in and check out take too much time and big lines are formed, it can be improved.

Cons: I think the staff could be more helpful. They seemed so stressed because the hotel was fully booked. I arrived at 11 pm and requested a late. Check out for the following day (I would of course pay extra) they refused because they were fully booked which I understand of course. My flight was at 9 pm, so I asked an extra hour to check out... They were very clear in saying I had to check out at 12 o'clock. I really understand the situation, but I think they could have handled that better. Another point to improve is the breakfast. It was good, but there could be more options.

Cons: I stayed for 4 nights. The check in process itself was very long and I wasn't acknowledged at all initially. My first room was by the elevator and had construction outside therefore noisy and I asked if I could move rooms which they did, but I felt like I was being a nuisance to them. English wasn't great so communication was hard and the photos on the booking were misleading as they are of one of the few refurbished rooms which I didn't have (my room was very dated). On the last night we asked reception to help us book a dinner reservation which should have been quick, but this took around 10-15 minutes.

Cons: the hotel is old and tired and feels like a 1950's Hollywood hotel from a movie. The food choices at breakfast were limited and didn't change much over the week we were there. The fire exit stair case was poorly lit and often partly blocked my a trolly. It doesn't feel like a 4 Star hotel - 3 stars at most.

Cons: The staff does not speak English, so it was a bit difficult to communicate. They should at least learn the very useful terms in order to understand each other ! But, the staff was very kind, helpful and they have always the smile :)

Pros: I very much enjoyed my 10-day stay at Ibis Botafogo. The location of the hotel is its big advantage (close to the underground station where from you could either go to the business centre of Rio (a switch to a tram is possible, later on) or towards more touristic areas like Copacabana / Ipanema. The breakfast buffet is rich to choose from (it stays the same every day, but that's not a problem at all). I also enjoyed lunches there twice - good ones (on Friday there was a possibility to select whatever one liked from a very broad range of local dishes - big plus). The prices were very competitive in comparison to various places in Rio city centre / Botafogo itself. I also appreciate the helpful staff at the reception and the bar/lunch room. The great majority spoke English very well (few did not, but it was still much, much better than nearly elsewhere in Rio). The room was fine, clean, bed comfortable, there was a place to work. The air condition was effective, what was a big plus since if someone opens windows (I did it) you immediately got the horn symphony from outside (that's how motorcyclists fight for their lives in the busy streets).

Cons: THe room was very dirty. Behind the minibar was full of dust from the past 2 years. The room had no window to the street. There was a window t a small airchannel. But that was where all the airconditions were installed. So when other people turned on their aircondition, there was so much noise in the room that it was impossible to sleep. This was communicated to the staff several times. Everytime they said that they would let the manager get in touch with me in order to try to find a solution. I was there 3 days without finding a solution. I could not get my money back, because the booking was made through booking.com.

Pros: My boyfriend and I stayed here for 8 days and it was perfect for a trip in Brazil! We were close to Christ the Redeemer, Sugarloaf Mountain, and a lot of local shopping downtown. Pros: Very fresh clean place with a feeling of being inside a palace and your own house at the same time, if your house is exclusively decorated with a touch of what you could call spiritual decoration that is, with a lovely little garden including a pool, many small areas where you could go and just be for yourself and the sounds of brazilian nature right outside your window. Only got the chance to meet Sven, the french guy who was in charge at the moment and he was very helpful and spoke fluent english which was a plus for me. Walking distance up to the cristo monument with a nice little hike on the road for about 1 and a half hour in slow pace or busses if you prefer that. Thanks for the stay!

Cons: The early check in that we arranged and paid extra for was not arranged meaning we had to wait for 30 minutes and then stay in a non-cleaned room because we just wanted to sleep after a long flight. Our room was then not cleaned throughout the next 48 hours (the bed was made once but no cleaning had occurred). The room did not look like any of the pictures on the website. Much smaller and lacking in comfort and facilities. The WiFi was also very temperamental making things difficult. There was mould on the wall, plaster coming off, the air conditioning unit hanging off the wall etc. Generally very run down.

Cons: The wifi in my room did not work well most of the time and towards the end of my stay there was nog English speaking staff which made it difficult to get the wifi fixed and to check out.

Pros: My boyfriend and I stayed here for 8 days and it was perfect for a trip in Brazil! We were close to Christ the Redeemer, Sugarloaf Mountain, and a lot of local shopping downtown. The staff here were super friendly, helpful, and diligent about making our experience great and comfortable. We would definitely stay here again!

Pros: Very fresh clean place with a feeling of being inside a palace and your own house at the same time, if your house is exclusively decorated with a touch of what you could call spiritual decoration that is, with a lovely little garden including a pool, many small areas where you could go and just be for yourself and the sounds of brazilian nature right outside your window. Only got the chance to meet Sven, the french guy who was in charge at the moment and he was very helpful and spoke fluent english which was a plus for me. Walking distance up to the cristo monument with a nice little hike on the road for about 1 and a half hour in slow pace or busses if you prefer that. Thanks for the stay!

Pros: I have booked the hotel and when booking a credit card was required. However when I checked in was not paid. When going to the room I realised there was o place for my 3 years old daughter sleep and I called the reception saying that I ve booked for 2 adults and 1 child and they said it doesn't make difference because child doesn't pay. I asked why I need mark that room would be for 2 adults and 1 child of would make any difference. Thay then said to complaint with booking.com ... after a few minutes they came with a cot dirty and goof for new born babies not for a 3 years old girl. Definitely she is bigger than the cot. Staff was helpful when I needed milk for my daughter. After a long day traveling in 3 different flights I was expecting a cleaner hotel to take a shower and rest. Just chose this one for the location but will never come back.

Cons: The air-conditioning in our room was off but somehow there was a fan turned on inside the box, that could not be turned off and constantly blew wind with a loud sound. The windows opened up to a deck/roof that was very dirty and dark. Open plugs and unfixed holes in the wall are easy to fix but aren't.
