The hotel is visually extremely interesting with the art work etc. Almost like visiting a really cool museum :-) Staff was very friendly and professional...... The room also was wonderful, the mattresses and bedding were beyond comfortable, which was appreciated after a long difficult day of travel when we arrived. Cons: Whilst the public areas are historic, cooly decorated and quite grand, the hotel public areas are very dark and has hardly any windows. It makes it somewhat gloomy. Public areas are so much nicer than the rooms. They've done up the bathrooms and the beds are comfortable, but the decor lacks finesse and there's a distinct lack of luxury for the money. I booked an Exec King Suite and there was no sitting / sofa area - just two beds. It did not meet "suite" expectations.

Pros: Everything was indefinably perfect. This was my first experience with a four star hotel, and I walked in with high expectations. They met and exceeded every single one. The environment is luxurious, the staff is very friendly and very accommodating. We were given a ride to our concert venue free of charge, and when no drivers were available to pick us up, the concierge did so himself (Daniel's a great guy). The cocktails in the lobby bar were unique and tasty. The store across from the lobby bar (an art book store) stocks some great additions to any coffee table. And our purchase was transported up to our room with a little note from the concierge: "Enjoy your staycation." We had only told him once that we weren't from out of town, but he remembered. We felt like royalty from check-in to check-out. I highly highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Dallas.

Since we had never been there, he gave us a quick tour of the room and told us all about the hotel. You can tell they are very proud of the hotel, and they should be. It is gorgeous!
I have stayed at The W in downtown Dallas, and got the worst service there. The Joule is so much better in every aspect, and it doesn't cost as much.

Pros: The minute you pull up the The Joule you know this is something different. The lobby is unique and modern without being cold and industrial. At check in we were handed a glass of sparkling wine. The staff was excellent. The were very professional yet extremely friendly. Not once did I get the pretentious feeling that I sometimes get from 4 star hotels. Every staff person I came in contact with went out of their way to be helpful and made me feel like a valued guest. The room was very comfortable and the design modern. I could tell that a lot of thought went into the design; picking the fabrics, fixtures, colors, etc.
I would here again in a heartbeat.

Cons: The entire staff seemed put off by answering any basic question of ours, they weren’t knowledgeable about the simplest of things like what time check out was even!! We were put on hold so they could check... meanwhile i could hear the other line going off in the background. They just wanted to switch over to a more important guest. The spa flat out lied to us about their availability. When we tried to push our checkout time by 30 minutes after enduring all of this so that we could go to a neighboring spa it simply couldn’t be done. The shower was broken, my fiancé fixed it, the mirror in the bathroom was broken, my fiancé attempted to fix it but then said “honestly i should Be paid for fixing all of these issues”. We asked for a dog bed. They offered it at check in but they were reluctant to send one up in the ten minutes it took us to change our mind about wanting one. It was disgusting Don’t ask for the dog bed. They apparently offer free car service in 5 miles. Don’t even bother. They won’t answer the phones to call you one. We had such high hopes for this place as we visit the spa and CBD often. This was our first and LAST stay at the joule. You’ve lost two customers that used to sing your praises.

Pros: We had a fabulous girls only weekend and this hotel was a fantastic choice. We would stay here again in a heartbeat, even though it's a little on the pricier end for the value. We chose it for the location closest to our venue, but it exceeded our expectations in many ways. The spaces are beautiful and the rooms were cozy, but with very thin walls. The valet guys were on spot too! I loved that it wasn't right smack in the middle of downtown, but close and convenient.

Pros: We had a fabulous girls only weekend and this hotel was a fantastic choice. We would stay here again in a heartbeat, even though it's a little on the pricier end for the value. We chose it for the location closest to our venue, but it exceeded our expectations in many ways. The spaces are beautiful and the rooms were cozy, but with very thin walls. The valet guys were on spot too! I loved that it wasn't right smack in the middle of downtown, but close and convenient.

Pros: Location was great and it had a cool vibe, the style was top notch and the room was very cool looking.
Cons: The sliding bathroom door wouldn't stay closed, the walls are super thin so you hear EVERYTHING happening in the neighboring rooms. Every time the floor above you uses the bathroom you hear it because the sewage pipes are literally in your room.

Cons: Paper thin walls - can hear noise from above, both sides of the rooms, and especially the hallway!!! I can hear clearly worded conversations from the hallway. The door to the bathroom is barn-door style, so it doesn't shut securely, doesn't lock, leaves a small gap, and can hear everything going on in there (not too awesome for friends or acquaintances who want to share a room but have loud bathroom manners).

Cons: There was some kind of renovation going on so the air in the hallway was full of dust and debris littered the floors. I was surprised that a room costing this much did not include some kind of coffee or water in the lobby. The entire thing was rather stark, not offering much "hominess." The location was good for my transportation needs, but there were a lot of vagrant type people all around the DART transfer station.

Cons: Our room was not ready at check in. We were on a floor full of OU College kids. After the first night, we asked when the noise would cease and staff just said it was TXOU weekend. The following night they pulled the fire alarm. Staff couldn't control.

Cons: Definitely not a 4 star hotel. 2 star at best. Location in downtown was surrounded by homeless people. We had a balcony room that was infested with crickets. We moved rooms after 1 night, but it took 4 attempts to find a room without crickets in it. Apparently crickets are a issue as they migrate through the state, but the balcony door wouldn't close properly so they got into the room and my case. There was tissue stuffed into a hole in the non moving balcony door. Could hear homeless people shouting outside all night. Air con was noisy. The sockets in the room were hanging off the walls. Wallpaper was peeling off the wall. Back of bathroom door splashed in white paint. Corridors to rooms were dirty, food left outside rooms for hours. Elevators were dirty with cracked tiles. Bar area had empty boxes stacked on it. Drapes around bar area covered in stains. Only 3 of the six beers on tap were working. The restaurant had no atmosphere, food was terrible. I had a hair on the lettuce in my burger. We were booked in for 4 nights, but left after 2 night. Staff were very understanding, but we couldn't wait to get away.

Cons: parking was in a grungy garage. The garage was protected by security gate but it was a tight squeeze and dark. I hadn't anticipated the $18/day parking fee. The hotel shuttle was in an unmarked van and we waited 45 min and 3 phone calls to finally get our ride. The driver picked up others who hadn't called for the shuttle and left us waiting. We were exhausted or we would have walked the 6 blocks. If there was a marking on the vehicle designating it was the hotel shuttle, we could have flagged him down.
