Corncroft Guest House - Witney - Building

9,5 Excellent (800 reviews)
R1 534+
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything, friendly, helpful, clean and comfortable, excellent breakfast, restaurant are is really lovely. We would most definitely recommend the Corncroft and we look forward stopping again.
Cons: There is nothing we didn't like at all.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was fabulous. Hosts were very welcoming.
Cons: There was an empty water bottle between the bed and bedside table.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Really helpful and friendly owner. Great breakfast!
7,0 Good
Pros: Room was slightly cramped, but clean. Staff were welcoming and helpful.
Cons: Free parking was listed, which turned out to be free on-street parking, but only for 2 hours between 8 am - 6pm. So arriving in the early afternoon, meant that the car had to be moved after 2 hours a couple of times, while out and about. Car parks in Witney do offer free parking but maximum 12 hours, so again not what was expected. We had assumed Free Parking meant on the premises. Breakfast was extremely plentiful, but it would have been less wasteful to have known what was available to choose from, rather than having a large plateful of everything on offer, when asking for Full English. A minor if picky point, as it was well cooked and presented but far more than we wanted. When we came to leave, no-one was around, so it seemed odd to be merely leaving the key and disappearing with no communication. Old-fashioned maybe, but would have been nice to say goodbye.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Richard was very welcoming and couldnt do enough for you.
Cons: Nothing all was brilliant
10,0 Excellent
Pros: I have stayed at this property several times. It is very clean and very comfortable. The breakfast is fabulous

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Staff,coffee, lovely room
Cons: The shower pressure wasn't great
6,0 Good
Cons: I booked a comfy double as I was advised this was only one of 2 rooms available at the property, this was booked after considering reviews on Tripadvisor & your site. On check-in we were advised that we had been upgraded, a little strange being that the property was full! The lady took full payment & then showed us to our room which at first sight looked ok, I’m guessing that as this room was at the top of the property & up several very steep flights of stairs the persons who had booked this room had complained & been swapped with is. As we did not return to the room until later that evening it was to late then to find anyone to ask to move back to our original booking. At no point did any member of the staffing team as us if we were ok or happy with our stay. The room itself was very dark with minimal lighting, making it difficult to get ready in the morning. The mirror on the dresser had seen better days & there were no plugs in front of the larger mirror, so also impossible to use this did hair, makeup etc. A huge beam running across the floor in front of the bathroom & bed made it difficult to manoeuvre around the room & was quite dangerous. Although I understood all rooms to have been renovated this didn’t appear to be the case for this room, the bathroom was nice but again you couldn’t use the mirror if a shorter person due to the shelf stuck across it!! We missed breakfast on Saturday morning & although we were advised prior to our stay that the kitchen was being refurbished & breakfast would remain unaffected. Again this was ok, although serving watered down juice for breakfast & being told it comes from the tap is poor & an even poorer excuse, for £110 per night I expect fresh juice & locally sourced products, the poached egg & avocado was nice. Would we stay again, no there are to many other great options Burford!!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful character property lovely rooms and very very friendly staff
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and comfortable. Lovely rooms, with that little bit of extra luxury. Will definitely visit again.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Nice and friendly comfortable bed and good breakfast
Cons: Nothing
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Great location clean and tidy rooms friendly staff - lovely stay
Cons: Decorating at the time of our visit so wet paint with no signs evening dining closed - breakfast whilst what we had was lovely some things they ran out of and other options weren’t kept topped up such as the fruit! They could also do with regulating the heat in the communal areas as it was either very hot or very cold! The rooms were ok as you can manage this yourselves
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Probably one of the best rooms we’ve stayed in a pub, room was decorated beautifully and very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and attentive.
Cons: We loved the room and wasn’t expecting it to be peaceful as most pub rooms have a certain level of noise (which is fine). Our room overlooked the high street, we noticed the secondary glazing wasn’t intact so the sound of traffic passing throughout the night actually sounded like it was in the room with us so we had disturbed sleep unfortunately. We also thought room was expensive, we have paid similar prices for rooms in luxury hotels.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was everything we wanted! Central, clean, beautifully refurbished, and really friendly staff. The bar and restaurant were both great and the food was gorgeous. Absolutely perfect. I couldn’t have asked for any more.
Cons: If you are slightly older be careful where your room is. Steps to first floor are fine but second floor is quite hard with luggage.
7,1 Good
Pros: Nice location and restaurant lovely staff and dog friendly
Cons: Kept banging my head as the door ways were so small (I’m not tall) noisy shower very poor water pressure in taps and shower

8,0 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast and helpful staff. The location is also good. Comfortable bed. One of the electrical outlets in the bedroom included USB charger sockets which is useful. Didn't try the restaurant in the evening so can't comment on that.
Cons: The car park is a bit of a walk, but that's the problem with the whole of Burford - parking is a problem! The staff are happy to help with bags though. Although the bedroom and bathroom were spacious, the sink in the bathroom was tiny.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely hotel with an excellent location. Good food, friendly professional staff.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Brilliant location, just off the main street.Nice open fires and free newspapers in the bar.
Cons: One rasher of bacon on a full english breakfast seemed a bit mean.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Dinner was amazing. Room was nice.
Cons: 1) The room we stayed in has an issue with the toilet flush which meant it woke me up as it was stuck open trickling water into the cistern. 2) other guests continually left the door open to the street outside our room which meant the hallway/room was cold. Could the owners put a closer on that door?

4,0 Okay
Pros: Breakfast was good. Manager was understanding of our frustration.
Cons: Room was very tired, damaged and not looked after. Was nothing like the photos online. I paid for a superior room and there was nothing superior about the room.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: We all had a lovely time at Blue Boar and would go again. There was one particular member of staff who stood out for excellent personalised service and who was so kind to an old lady who appeared to be confused about bus times and was wandering in and around the property. The member of staff (and I really wish I picked up her name) made sure that the old lady got safely on the bus. She wasn't a paying guest but was shown the same respect as everyone else. The food was lovely, the rooms were comfortable....and clean. The rooms we had in the main Hotel were great but a lot of stairs so not ideal for those with disabilities. It may be worth checking the room locations if you have a disability or are particularly unfit when you book That said, we had a wonderful family time in Witney with excellent food in the evening (the gentleman who cooked the pizzas from scratch then cooked them in a pizza oven worked like a Trojan all Saturday night) and for a town centre located property was a great find.
Cons: Cost of the wine. We made the mistake of looking up to see if we could get a wine we ordered in a Supermarket as we enjoyed it. It was just shy of £8.00 in Sainsbury's but cost £29.00 each at dinner which was a shocker and whilst we expect a mark up, we felt a little bit cheated by the cost and I know they would have bought the wine for less than £8.00.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Basic but clean, warm and comfy.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was excellent, and in general the quality of food was superb. I was surprised with the size of the room, which was larger than usual for the UK. Staff were very friendly & courteous.
Cons: A little more wardrobe space would be nice although I used the chest of drawers to the full extent. It would have been nice with a desk & chair to catch up on emails or work on a laptop.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic location in the centre of town. Clean and modern with a nice bar.
Cons: The keycard for the late night door didn't work so we were lucky to find a member of staff to let us in.
6,0 Good
Pros: Breakfast was very nice, good shower
Cons: The room was very basic, not really worth the money I paid.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Staff very friendly, great location value for money. Breakfast is lovely but could you make you portion beans a proper mans portion thanks.

Pros: Lovely room and good breakfast. Staff all very friendly. Had a comfortable nights sleep
Cons: It was a shame the restaurant has closed due to unforeseen circumstances as we would have liked to eaten there
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent staff who run the bull !!!
9,4 Excellent
Pros: The room, the quiet, the comfortable bed, the excellent breakfast (even though I only ate it once), the accommodating staff (thank you for my early morning latte on the patio).
Cons: Turning off the patio lights around 11 p.m. (midnight?)..... I couldn't have my late night read outside.... a small thing, but important for me. It would have been good to have a facecloth included with the room's linens.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location. Extra large room. Staff excellent.
Cons: Buffet cooked breakfast. Food was cold and overcooked.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was very good with lots of choice.
Cons: Actimel at breakfast was a week out of date!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Our second stay at the Bull with our dog...we all love it!
Cons: Nothing!
6,0 Good
Pros: This is a classic period property, with creaky floorboards, winding staircases and a cosy feel, especially in the upstairs lounge area. It is close to all the main amenities in Burford as it is located on the busy high street. The cereal options at the breakfast buffet are excellent, covering all manner of nuts, seeds, and fruits.
Cons: The restaurant at the Bull is closed until further notice, something which is not advertised on the booking.com listing. It is, however, mentioned in a confirmation email after booking. This isn't a huge problem as there are plenty of excellent alternatives, but some might prefer to eat at a hotel they are staying at. The cooked breakfast is served buffet style and many of the items soon dried out in the hot plate area, meaning that although tasty, it was not as tasty as if it had been cooked to order. Room wise, some of the fittings (light switches, the kettle) though functional were rather basic, and the shower temperature was very difficult to control. Searching online reveals that the hotel is currently up for sale, and I wonder if this has influenced some of the day to day operating decisions.

Pros: QUAINT
Cons: THE BATHROOM RADIATOR WAS STAINED WITH URINE AND HAD STARTED TO RUST ROOM COULD HAVE HAD A THOROUGH DUST
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Croissants brilliant. Bed very comfortable. Food excellent and loved the open fire .
Cons: Nothing
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hotel. Lovely room. Great staff. Fantastic live music at dinner. Great breakfast. We loved it!
Cons: Food at dinner slightly disappointing (both had Mac 'n cheese). Portions enormous and needed salad/veg or something.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and helpful staff, very accommodating, especially as we took our dog with us. Food was great, breakfast especially with a wide choice. Location was perfect, nice and quiet and near to local attractions and countryside. Bar and restaurant were relaxing places to drink and eat, with open fires and a good atmosphere.
Cons: Room was a bit small for a 'superior' room but met our needs, especially as we had a door to a small private courtyard which would be nice in the summer. Price was a bit steep for winter but the location probably dictates this as it's not any more expensive than other comparable places in the Cotswolds.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was lovely the staff were really friendly and helpful . The room was nice and cosy , clean and had everything there if needed .
Cons: There wasn’t anything what so ever I didn’t like
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Location.
6,7 Good
Pros: The lovely village location and splendid grounds, the roaring fires and tasteful country house feel.
Cons: The restaurant was a little disorganised. Four people took our orders and served us and the co-ordination was lacking and the service was therefore slow. Why not allocate given tables to specific waiting staff?
5,3 Okay
Pros: The hotel grounds and local area
Cons: The fact they have a two tier system where guests staying at the Old Swan get dining reservation preferences and their own roped off lounge area that the Minster guests cannot use
4,3 Okay
Pros: Character hotel.
Cons: Standard room very small, we stayed in the barn conversion annexe, room was very small with single glazed window which was very noisy. It felt as if we were staying in a beach hut. There was a noise in the pipes which kept us awake most of the night. Also we had to travel to a nearby pub as the restaurant(which is another pub a minute) away was full, priority to guests with bb and e meal.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed for 2 nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The first room was extremely hot, we spoke to reception who offered us another room without hesitation. The restaurant is excellent both for breakfast & dinner. After eating there the first night we definitely wanted to on our second night but forgot to book. So after a day out and about came back to hear it was fully booked being Saturday. However the staff were brilliant and said they would manage to squeeze us in and we weren't disappointed, the steak was perfect along with everything else! Staff very friendly and helpful. Lovely grounds and setting. Will definitely go back.
4,0 Okay
Pros: I liked the helpful staff in the restaurant who worked extremely hard on the sturday evening of our stay.
Cons: I stayed in room 121 which was awful and i have complained personally to Diane Cornish the sales manager and i have yet to have the courtesy of a reply to my comments.
3,2 Mediocre
Pros: Setting and location excellent. Public rooms nice
Cons: Scandinavian type rooms (118) were very very small. Little wardrobe and storage space. Walls were paper thin. We could hear neighbours even when they were whispering and using bathroom! Flight path from nearby RAF base. No double galzing. It was clear the accommodation was geared to single people on conferences/workshops. Massive disappointmant!
7,2 Good
Pros: Lovely setting, staff very friendly. Lovely meal.
Cons: There were no biscuits on the hospitality tray.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Location Staff and service
Cons:
7,2 Good
Pros: The reception and cleaning staff were extremely friendly and welcoming The setting is delightful and the food in the restaurant was very good.
Cons: Our bath room was very cold - no apparent heating and interesting though the high ceilings are, there was a draught. This did not spoil our stay but if the weather had been colder it might have done.
6,4 Good
Pros: lovely location, good restaurant
Cons:

Pros: We only stayed for one night but it was great to get there and park at the hotel, book in dump our bags in the room and have a couple of drinks in the bar. We had a complimentary bottle of wine and fruit basket in our room, we chose to eat in the bar, we could have eaten in the restaurant, the food was gorgeous and the staff very friendly. it really is a beautiful old hotel a good breakfast in the morning. I probably would not have chosen the four poster room if another had been available, just because of the extra expense but on the other hand we do like a room within the hotel rather than in the courtyard of a hotel
Cons: nothing to fault

Pros: The staff were friendly when we arrived. The bed was super comfortable.
Cons: The property itself was okay but our room was screaming for a make over. It looked clean but it’s always hard to tell in a room that needs drastically renovated. The bathroom wasn’t as clean. Glad I brought my flip flops down so I could wear them in the shower. Our room was also freezing. I had to sleep with a jumper on the whole night.

Pros: All with that exception of food and drink prices
Cons: Price of meals and drinks

Pros: Plenty of space in room. Good sized TV. Friendly and helpful staff.
Cons: Evening menu does not change often enough. Replenishment of hot breakfast items was not good because they put the "fresh" ones on top of the "old" ones.
