Cons: It is a little hard to set the room temperature if you are used to seeing degrees in F, not C, but the staff is willing to help. The coffee machine in the room is very high quality but not easy to use if you are not used to it. Again, the staff is more than willing to help.

Cons: Given that we paid £460 for one night's stay (excluding breakfast), it just wasn't up to par. For similar money you could stay somewhere like the Savoy. I genuinely had expected much better based on the price alone. They didn't have an all-night menu although they did manage to rustle up some burnt toasties for us (which they charged us for). I'm usually very happy the places I stay and certainly not a serial complainer but this was just too much money for the standard provided.

Cons: This was an overpriced, poor quality, little stuffy room sold to me at £97 as a superior room with separate entrance. The Wi-Fi identified as HASHBROWNS did not exist, another name did exist and when I point this out by text the answer was a nonsensical “use lower case” rather than a password for the Wi-Fi signal that did show on two devices. The TV did not have a proper outside aerial but a portable one that needs to be powered up. The small safe was there on the floor not easy to use and not at waist level as is normal. The room was very hot with virtually no ventilation, only a small window to open, so I could not sleep with pyjamas or duvet cover. There was no fridge as claimed, lucky that I did not need one. There was one of those bottle chiller boxes which was not turned on. Last week I stayed in 3 other great centrally located places in Bath, Stow on the Wold, Cambridge with nice large bright airy cool rooms two at £80 ( one with a lovely breakfast ) and one at £90 but that was a modern hotel with a super large perfect modern room with great fitting and a fabulous bed. I became curious about my booking so whilst staying at the Lakeside Guest house I did some experimental searches for bookings right through to October. For every date and for every room there was a line written in RED that stated.... “Last room available” ...oh really There must be nicer and better value places to stay in Oxford.

The hotel also gave my mother & her guest two free drinks & a free breakfast as I had let them know it was her 50th birthday!

Pros: Great location only a short drive from town centre & also only 25min drive from Bicester shopping village. The staff were very friendly. The rooms have all amenities required, toiletries, robes & slippers, a dressing table with mirror, full length mirror plus iron & ironing board in the room. There is access to a spa, basic but fit for purpose. Lovely maintained property, very clean, modern & tidy. The hotel also gave my mother & her guest two free drinks & a free breakfast as I had let them know it was her 50th birthday!
Cons: We requested one room with twin beds but were given a large double. Also the heating in one of the rooms was not working but the hotel provided a stand alone heater. There was also building work in the hotel which started at 9am, which although not to early, is not conducive to a nice lay in on your birthday!

Staff were trying to be helpful but as far as I am concerned I hated my stay here!! Also the rooms had no phone signal (and I'm on network 3, which ussually picks up everywhere in the UK) and the room phone was not working!

Cons: Not sure it represents good value. It was very expensive even for a city centre hotel. Car parking was extremely pricey even though there’s a car park further down the road and I’m not sure the hotel valet was the best choice. I was told that 24hr parking was £35 in the local car park and they only charged £45. If I stay again I would investigate the local parking even the park and ride didn’t seem to far away.

Cons: We were in a room with heavy scaffolding blocking the entire two windows. Men were talking, yelling & working/pounding in front of the two windows every morning. They totally ignored us who needed sleeping in the room. There were no privacy nor courtesy. We were not informed or asked if it's Ok for the reception to assign such a downgraded room (the windows were blocked by scaffolding entirely)to us at check in either. The service and facilities were at most a one star hotel this time. I stayed in this hotel for about 5 times in the last two years because we were visiting our daughter who was studying at Worcestor college(one block away). They've been always about a three stars hotel standard. But this time was the worst. We will not use this hotel any more. It's totally not worth the price & the poor facility.

Cons: Having been there before we expressly asked for an executive ground floor room overlooking the garden; this was confirmed via telephone on booking. When we arrived these rooms were no longer available which caused initial distress (my wife is not good on her feet; the stay was a birthday treat for me, and having stayed before we knew the choice of rooms we would be happy with).The management, however, were very helpful and considerate in resolving the upset, and by adjusting room allocation we were able to have a room we had wanted when we initially booked. Our 3 night stay was then most enjoyable and we will stay there again when next visiting Oxford.

Cons: Our only observation was that having a room near reception, some nights could be noisy as people returned from a night out or checked in late, but this wasn't every night, and was something we noticed was in the background rather than something that annoyed us. Cons: We stayed for two nights. There were flies in the room and no matter how many we swatted more appeared. Despite putting the card on the door to make up the room it was not serviced. No towels, no tissues and no tea. Cons: The building didn't make the most of its heritage. It is a gorgeous building that had been decorated in a modern way that tried badly to reflect the original structure. So although well decorated, it could have had a lot more 'Central Oxford' character.

Unfortunately our room was also next to the lift mechanics and every time the lift was used, it rumbled through the room. It wasn’t clear when booking that rooms on the third floor are accessed by stairs from the second floor, could be a problem for a less able person.

Cons: Air conditioning didn't work so the room was hot and stuffy. They had placed a plug in electric fan in the room so they were obviously previously aware it wasn't working. The fan was noisy which made it difficult to sleep. Also the staff in the breakfast room were nice but was not impressed by the quality of the actual cooking.

BUT staff ignored us after 2pm. Had to go up later and ask for key. Others waiting - same thing. Could have called out even. Very noisy. On side street but still people talking loudly outside, (not YHA fault) but some ignorant person banging door next to us 5 times in about 5 minutes after 11pm. Need to put soft door closes on. Need cloth or something for bathroom floor. Shower curtain blows out and water goes onto floor. Shower floor also sloped out. Found a roll of blue paper and used this to wipe floor. Basic cleaning ok. Moved beds and not been cleaned for a while, but most people don't move beds. (Had 2 singles, so pushed together).

As it was an old house you could hear people in other rooms or on the stairs. Very disappointed for the price and did not include breakfast. Only the cleanliness was good.

Cons: The room was uncomfortably hot, we were on the top floor and whilst going up the stairs you can literally feel the heat change. Even with open windows and the fan turned on it was very warm. The shower began to fill up quite quickly and almost flooded within a few minutes. I would have preferred to have another bedside table on the other side of the bed and more plugs are needed.

This is not really a hotel as such, just a desk in a tiny alcove where a person handed you a key and took it back when you left.
