Immaculate decor: very stylish. Exquisite views - I was surprised! Breakfast was great. Staff are cheery and enthusiastic. Lift is a blast from the past - modern fittings, but you can sense the history. There is valet parking provided - but why drive, when its a 2 minute walk to every train in Brisbane. There is charge points so close to the bed - ideal, as I left my charger at home. Soft, soft bed - not for everyone, but I loved it.

Cons: The location for me with a baby was a little hard but I didn’t have a car so was walking everywhere. You can walk around the cbd super easily! A little far to go to South Beach etc by foot with a little one. Otherwise perfect!

Cons: Just a few things don't work. The location is very close to the Brisbane Central Train Station - convenient, but at night you can hear the trains arriving. The Thompson Suite looks gorgeous, but it is an awkward layout. Curtains don't quite close, and the one behind the four poster bed is difficult to access. The bathroom gets much too wet when you use the shower. An open shower may be very fashionable. However, I'd consider improving the floor of the bathroom so it is less of a slipping hazard.

Pros: Thornbury One will definitely be my accommodation choice for all future stays in Brisbane. The proximity to the CBD (an easy 10-minute walk) is perfect, and Geof is welcoming, accommodating and an amazing breakfast chef. His main staff member, Rosie, is an asset with impeccable manners, and a lovely friendly demeanour. The experience of staying at Thornbury One is far superior to a soulless hotel, as you stay in a beautifully restored 1886 house, and have your needs personally catered for with a delicious breakfast, valet parking, and I’m sure anything else that you might need to ask Geof for. Highly recommended!

Pros: The room was beautifully designed. Colourful, textured and comfortable. The staff at reception were welcoming and attentive... and quite fabulous :) The nearby bar and cafe were so wonderful that I was able to get friends to visit me... for a drink, meal of coffee... rather than drive all over Brisbane and beyond to catchup with everyone.

Cons: One lift was permanently out of order during our entire stay! On the morning of check-out only one lift was operating so waited for a while before a staff member saved the situation by organgising us to go from Level 10 to Lobby by service lift - not a good impression at all! Only a few tissues remaining in the bathroom so these ran out quickly. On both Friday and Saturday evenings returning to the hotel we decided a few drinks in the Pav Bar before retiring to our room but apart from the same disgruntled barman serving us with our first drinks when returning from the courtyard to but a second drink, the bar was closed - it was just after 10.30pm. We noticed other guests were vocal about this situation as well - not what you would expect to be lacking in an hotel of this calibre!

Cons: None of this is Stanford plazas fault. The booking website didn’t mention anything about valet parking included so we paid for alternate parking. The website also mentioned a balcony with a view but there was no balcony. The rooms AC wasn’t very good, we set it at 16 degrees and the room never cooled. It was hot all day and night.

Cons: The shower over bath, could be a bit tricky for elderly people. Toilet dripping, closed door and it wasn't too bad. Staff offered to call plumber, but in the evening on a Sunday, I did say not to bother. They also offered a change of room, but again, because I had started to unpack etc. told them not to worry as I was only there for a short time, having to leave early next morning for airport.
