Breakfasts were wonderful with really lovely sausages and bacon and home made yoghurt which was a real treat each morning. The Pier is very centrally located and easy for visiting the naval dockyard and other attractions. We will certainly come back again to The Pier.
Cons: Nothing needs improving. It is all lovely.

9,5 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were attending an event in the area and Danny's local knowledge was very useful in getting to the event on time and without stress. Many thanks Danny. The room was very large and clean. The breakfast was top notch. Location was convenient for restaurants and nightlife.
Cons: Nothing that would not make me want to stay again. If I were to be very critical, the property is of a certain age. This is shown in the photos on the website and nothing is hidden, but our normal preference is for somewhere more modern. This property has changed my mind on that.

Pros: Breakfast was excellent and it was delivered in the room.
Cons: It was a pleasant stay. Quiet location, close to beach and the main street with all the shops and restaurants. Very nice staff and really good breakfast. Room could do with being refurbished for a cleaner look.
6,3 Good
Pros: Staff lovely though and put some nice chocolates on your bed as we where celebrating. Nice lights above the bed.
Cons: Described as a luxury room but very old fashioned and badly in need of redecorating plus modernisation .The bathroom doors yellow colour with ageing. The floor very strange metal and uncomfortable if you where in bare feet. Felt £140 was not a fair price.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Location for the beach is perfect, less than five minutes walking. Good breakfast, free parking by the door. We had a standard room, good value for money.
Cons: The mattress in our room was too soft. Noisy floor up, you can heard when people are walking upstairs, but the worst part was when a lady was shouting in the middle of the night....a couple of times.

Cons: No facilities to eat a meal on site in the evenings
5,8 Okay
Pros: The bed was comfortable This hotel claims five stars and boasts that in is a winner of Four in a bed, on this experience I fail to see how it has done either there was long blond hairs in the drawers at the side, the bath had dropped down somehow causing the shower screen to have a gap, this flooded the bathroom when a shower was taken , asked at the reception for more towels as if had to use them to mop up the flood , was given the towel but the scruffily dressed person behind the reception didn’t ask how or why there was water on it be floor Decorating equipment left on stairs and in the shabby bar area from where you can see a back garden that is overgrown and looks a mess , I stayed at a boutique hotel in Torquay two days before, this garden had been looked after and had seating lights and ornaments in it , this what I would expect not scruffy overgrown hedges or blown flooring in the bar for that matter. The staff gave the impression that they didn’t care or didn’t want to be there which is a shame as they could have made the experience of staying there a lot better

Pros: Good value for money, easy check in, clean and comfortable. Close to local amenities, we checked in after our day trip to the Isle of Whyte and were pleased with speedy check in. Good breakfast included, followed by a full day at the Historic Docklands ten minutes away. Would stay again. Thank you.
Cons: No toiletries in the rooms, other than hand wash pump. A shower cap was available from the desk but when your just about to shower and realise this with children in tow it’s an inconvenience to go and fetch one.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We were looking for a location that made it easy to travel to and then around Portsmouth.this met that and exceeded with a large well presented room and facilities. Breakfast was typical fare but on par with expectations.
Cons: Fire alarm at 3am was not fun but that was only negative.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Rooms very modern and clean
Cons: Breakfast nasty apart from coffee and croissants
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Clean and staff helpful
Cons: Nothing !
7,5 Good
Pros: Location good for event we were attending. Easy to get to town centre and Quay using car. Breakfast good and staff helpful.
Cons: Although 3 guests only 2 sets of towels were left in room. However, issue immediatly solved when asked for another set.
7,0 Good
Pros: The room was of the hotels hotel's usual high standard when we settled in. Breakfast was good, but crowded and a little chaotic at 8.00 am.
Cons: We arrived late off the ferry as it had been delayed. There was no one manning the desk so I had to wait to check in, eventually calling hello into the back office till someone came out. We were given keys to a room some distance away from reception which was ok, but when we arrived we found it had not been cleaned by the housekeeping staff, but left in a state by the previous occupants. I rang reception who quickly gave us the room opposite but late at night when you have been travelling for most of the day, you don't want to be standing around with your bags in the corridor.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Good location and easy from Portsmouth. Nice sized comfortable room, excellent breakfast and friendly staff.
Cons: Couldn't get on with air con and shower had little power and tended to soak the bathroom floor.
7,0 Good
Pros: Room was clean, tidy and generally nice. Good location for local attractions. Outside the grounds was not exactly anything to write home about - Petrol station, major roads, industrial estate & I think there was a small shopping centre.
Cons: A little over priced. I have stayed in better hotels for less money. Grounds were 'ok', if only a little unkempt. Breakfast was pretty much box standard & certainly nothing exceptional. Evening meals were WAAAAAAAAY overpriced, and that is mainly what let it down as the meals were not of a very high standard
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Both breakfast and the location were very good.
Cons: Cigarette butts littered internal courtyard.
6,3 Good
Pros: Location
Cons: Sausages were not nice

4,3 Okay
Pros: Breakfast was good, but not exceptional, the area was a bit run down with a fair amount of shabby individuals wandering around in hoodies and in the nearby park when we were walking back from their recommended Gastro Pub which was fifteen minutes walk away from the establishment.
Cons: The furniture and fittings were not in the "Boutique" league apart from the lounge area. The bathroom was small and cramped and the shower not clean. the room was ordinary and had minimal storage space, basically one small rickety free standing wardrobe and two bedside tables. The Electricity failed in our room in the morning as we were preparing to leave and when I reported it was told " oh it is a technical problem I can't deal with it" so nothing was done, and no offer of any re embursement made. Shabby chic would better describe the establishment, we will not be using it again!
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Locality was fab
Cons: A fan would have made the room more comfortable due to getting sun all day in the room.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Really lovely little hotel, great location. Staff were super friendly and accommodating.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The property was clean and fresh. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The breakfast was delicious.
Cons: Fortunately we were able to park off-road for our two night stay but although street parking is free space was very limited.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: After a long flight from Australia and drive down from Heathrow, we were able to check in straight away (we were early).
Cons: The single room was smaller than I expected, but it had everything you would need.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: I like the interior of the hotel, rooms were very clean, tea making facilities, nice to see Loccitane toiletries! Our King’s size exec room was good size, tall ceiling, bright with 2 windows, very quiet. They have a good breakfast menu you can order from and that is great value so would recommend adding to your room booking.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast nice and beds were very comfortable Nice quiet hotel for relaxing
Cons: Size of bedroom 1 twin beds so so small And I think the price should include cereal or toast with a coffee As breakfast at £26 a couple a day is a bit steep
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The bed was very comfortable and parking was easy.
Cons: Breakfast was nice but limited and not worth the extra cost of £25 for the two of us
5,5 Okay
Pros: Good location for ferries. The cooked breakfast was very tasty. Pleasant staff.
Cons: When they said small room, they should put tiny! The bathroom was more like a closet, mouldy tiles, not fit for purpose. Described as a hotel with restaurant- More like a guest house with the restaurant in a pub 15 minutes walk away. £185 it was not value for money.
7,5 Good
Pros: Quiet
Cons: Room bit small

Overview Reviews
With a stay at The Royal Maritime Club in Portsmouth, you'll be in the historical district, a 3-minute walk from Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and 6 minutes by foot from Gunwharf Quays. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk, multilingual staff, and luggage storage.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff, hotel is in an excellent location for shopping at Gunwharf Quays - about a 10 minute walk away. Convenient stopover for the Ferry terminal - approximately a 10 - 15 minute drive away. Breakfast was included in the rate but due to an early departure we thought we'd be unable to partake. Not so - the staff organised 'breakfast take-away bags' for all of our party (consisted of sandwiches, fruit, chocolate, crisps and bottled water) which we all enjoyed on the ferry! Great customer service :)
Cons: Parking at the hotel is limited - but again the staff are really helpful in sorting/finding a space
8,8 Excellent
Pros: clean, Good service, nice breakfast, good location
Cons: Old fashioned...
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The staff moved us when I explained about the noisy room, the West Wing was much quieter. The breakfast had a good choice.
Cons: We had a really noisy generator outside our room which made sleep difficult. The breakfast was just ok. A lot of restrictions on the pool which weren't advertised so we didn't use.

8,3 Excellent
Pros: Staff excellent with good restaurant.
Cons: Very noisy overnight with outside extractor fans cannonball night and room very hot.
6,8 Good
Pros: The room is very small. There is a musty smell as you enter it. Could do with some upgrading. Great choice for breakfast and the staff were friendly and helpful.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: The location was brilliant being only a few minutes walk to the seafront and major shopping and restaurant mall. There was a car park across the road as well. The staff at the front desk were polite and friendly. The room as a nice size and comfortable with all the usual hotel room things I also really liked all the maritime memorabilia that was on display throughout the hotel
Cons: My only real issue was that the 1st night I had someone playing their TV too loud in the next room, so perhaps the walls are a bit thin? But that was all really.
9,4 Excellent
Pros: We had a room with a large double. There was also another room with 2 bunks - great for children. Located a couple of hundred metres from the entrance to the Historical Dockyard (Allow 2-3 days to see everything!). Great food in Horatios restaurant. Nice staff
Cons: Room slightly dated but clean and tidy.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Location excellent and loved the decor of reception and library areas.
Cons: Corridors rather drab

It's all your need - a clean comfy room and bed and a good english or other type of breakfast and great location for touring around the Island. Wouldn't hesitate to return. Great value for money. 10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very welcoming, friendly staff. Lovely stay.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Great location
5,5 Okay
Pros: The location is what makes this hotel. You walk out of the hotel and the harbour is very close. Parking in the underground car park is free for 24 hours and then only £2 for subsequent 24 hours. Everything is close by and within walking distance.
Cons: Unfortunately, our room backed onto the Casino, which was very noisy and even at midnight there was shouting and even a fight so we had to close the bedroom window, which masked most of the noise. Subsequently, the room was very hot and the aircon was not effective at all. At 1am it was still 25 degrees in the room - we found that the aircon was simply re-circulating hot air. It was a hot day, but not excessively so. We had previously stayed at the Premier Inn at Fareham for 2 nights (which was half the price) and the aircon was excellent there. At 1am we simply couldn't stand it any longer, so went to reception. They dealt with it very well and we were allocated the only other vacant room (luckily they had a cancellation). This was a double bed (as opposed to the twin we had booked) and the bed was very uncomfortable. The room was still hot, but we were advised to open a window and not put on the aircon (AKA heating!). Apparently, they are changing the mattresses from the top floor down, and we were on the ground level.
7,5 Good
Pros: Central location, 5 mins walking distance to restaurants, shops and the museums. Bar staff very friendly.
Cons: The range of food offered at breakfast was good but not great quality and the actual breakfast area was very small. It was always busy and had to constantly negotiate around other people. Towels in the bedroom were tiny!
5,5 Okay
Pros: Good choice of breakfast, rooms clean, friendly helpful staff.
Cons: bed was uncomfortable, could have done with a chair in the room.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: My mate john and I stayed here for 4 days and We can honestly say it was fantastic the service and facilities was beyond expectations The room (no 2) was on the 1st floor and was accessible by a flight of stairs that were nicely decorated and well lit The room itself was again well decorated and had tea & coffee facilities along with a tv,shower, toilet and very comfortable twin beds The reception staff were just brilliant and any requests for information were greeted with politeness and a smile so a big thank you to Paulina,Alina and Kasia The food was excellent and again the bar staff of Charlie & Maggie were exceptional in portraying a great image of the establishment If I ever return to Portsmouth in the future I will be staying at the Duke of Buckingham and I definitely recommend it to others Jim & John
Cons: Nothing as it was just excellent
5,5 Okay
Pros: Comfy but tiny bed
Cons: You could not swing a kitten in the room, it was so small
8,3 Excellent
Pros: We took breakfast at a café opposite, and we had a very good meal in the restaurant downstairs: a great pub food experience.
6,8 Good
Pros: It was close to the sea front and amenities and the traffic was reasonably quiet on a main street. A good pub was adjacent to it doing excellent meals. The receptionists were very helpful and couldn't be falted.
Cons: The room was too small for 2 single beds. The wardrobe was too small and not located in a convenient place. A bigger wardrobe could have been fitted in a different location in the room enabling another bedside table to be fitted. The bathroom was tiny as was the shower cubicle in which you could barely move. Also problems with dirty water seeping back into the shower cubicle, if the sink plug was removed too allow water to exit it. ie back pressure forced dirty water back through the shower plug hole
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Location and easy parking. Good price.
Cons: Shared toilet.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: It was extremely clean and comfortable with very friendly staff
Cons: It was all great
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Good staff
Cons: Everything great
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Great value for money and location. It’s close to a few pubs and old Portsmouth. I liked the fact we could see the Spinnaker tower from our window. The cleaning was very good and we were given fresh towels without asking for them.
Cons: The mattress was not comfortable and the room needed more space on the side of the bed closest to the ensuite. The door to the en-suite banged into the bed. For a stay of 4 nights I expect there to be more than one miniature shampoo and shower gel (one of each for 5 days for 2 people...)
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Good location. Within walking distance of everything we’d come to see.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: The Location was fantastic. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The kettle in my room leaked so I went to reception to ask for another but they were closed when I went down. When I did speak to them later that evening they were very quick to bring a new kettle straight to our room. The room was clean and tidy.
Cons: I booked through booking.com which didn't make the room choice very clear. It was only on my confirmation email that when I paid for the room that I read that It had a shared bathroom. This in itself was not an issue but I wish it was shown more clearly as I would have been unlikely to choose it. The shared bathroom was very small with a small shower and was shared between 2 - 3 rooms, which made it an issue on sunday morning when myself and my partner struggled to have showers before checking out at 10am. My partner didn't manage to get into the bathroom before we had to check out so was uncomfortable all day.

5,8 Okay
Pros: Breakfast was good! Staff helpful.
Cons: Rooms were very hot. No a/c and no ventilation. Windows were tied to prevent opening more than a few inches. No extra sheet for hot night, only thick duvee. Also we had to carry our heavy suitcases three flights of stairs. We are seniors with bad knees. No ventilation or a/c made it very uncomfortable.

Pros: All the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was very good and the lady taking our order was lovely
7,5 Good
Pros: Position was great, hotel lovely majority of staff lovely too
Cons: Dining areas could be cleaner. Breakfast was confusing when ordering very english breafast depending on which staff were on depended if you got toast on breakfast. Lady Loz that served us at breakfast knew our friend wanted gluten free bread and always said they never had it then the morning they did have some she never offered it until she came past with some for someone else and said look whats come in today now youre going home! Which we werent but felt like it was rubbing her nose in it because she never offered it to our friend but to another lady, bad manners!! Also very noisy with boy racers
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very friendly and helpful The room was clean Fantastic view Food was very good
6,8 Good
Pros: The Ryde Castle was a good quality 3* Inn. The rooms are well appointed and of note, the bathrooms are very well finished and the staff keep the rooms very clean.
Cons: The biggest problem with this Inn was the weekend staff. Please be in no doubt that they were friendly and welcoming but it did feel as though the inn was run for them and not the customer; most irritating was the fact that on all 3 nights Residents could not purchase a drink after 2300hrs, but the staff apparently kept on drinking. Breakfast at the weekend was mediocre and took forever to arrive, the staff left tables uncleared and the dinning room was filthy. We witnessed a staff member clean around cutlery, spraying said cutlery with cleaning product, rather than lift them form the table, and just sweeping the debris onto the floor - I wouldn't want to eat with that cutlery! Monday was a stark change; perhaps the weekend manager and staff need further training.
8,0 Excellent

Cons: Staff didn't ask if everything was ok with our stay. If she had asked I would have complained about the steps up to the bathroom which were dangerous at night. Also there was very little room between the end of the bed and the wall so we found it difficult to move around the room.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Buffet breakfast was good, and is better for my dietary needs. Good location, near to seafront and Southsea shops, and with easy bus access to Gunwharf Quays and Historic Dockyard.

Cons: Lift not working
6,8 Good
Pros: The location, the staff, the beautiful building, even though old and undergoing refurbishing, it had lovely features
Cons: The lift was not working and we had to climb stairs to the second floor. ( because of high ceilings ,equivalent to about 4 floors) Had we known this we would have cancelled because we both have health issues. They had to carry our luggage up and down for us. The last thing my physio had said to me before I left home was “ NO STAIRS” .
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The new refurbished rooms made all the difference
Cons: N/A
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The buffet style breakfast offered a good choice and was refreshed constantly. Good Location with nice view. Cold water provided on each floor. I hope they recycle the plastic cups.
Cons: The room was a bit small and you had to walk sideways at the bottom of the bed to avoid bumping into the TV. The lift was out of action during our stay. No need to constantly change the white linen tablecloths when a brush off of crumbs would suffice - not good for the environment. A poor selection of bread - basic white and brown. no options for alternative milk such as dairy free.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: breakfast was excellent, the bar also. nice cocktails served. lift was broke down on my arrival and as i could not do all the stairs i was upgraded and put at a lower floor. thanks for that to duty manager that day. (Jacen?) bus stop outside to get into town in ten minutes. very handy
Cons: nothing
