Pros: Great location.
Cons: Rooms quite basic.
7,0 Good
Pros: Enjoyed the bamboo trail and waterfall trail. Enjoyed the dinner with private chef. Room was kept immaculate by staff. Staff was very friendly.
Cons: No wi-fi in room. Had to go to kitchen area to use laptop to access internet. No coffee pods one morning. Didn't bother me but one guest wanted decaf and there were no decaf pods there. Breakfasts could have been more varied. It doesn't take much to cook a few eggs.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: This is a wonderful hotel. The view of the waterfalls is incredible, and we really enjoyed swimming in the pool beneath the falls one morning after a delicious breakfast. Beds and sheets are super comfy. Isolated from Hilo yet still a short drive away. Can fall asleep listening to the frogs and insects outside. Best hotel we stayed at in Hawaii. There's also a hotel cat named Alice who's pretty friendly.
Cons: There was an unexpected resort fee of $10 per person/per night.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: The Staff are very accommodating and friendly. the house is beautiful warm and welcoming vibe. The property is located on the waterfall which again has some lovley views and a hike to the bamboo gardens was also amazing. A beautiful place to stay if you dont mind the heat. I will be visiting again for sure.
Cons: Beautiful remote accomodation, however there is no aircon in the rooms, the ceiling fan was enough for me at night but not for my partner. The temperature in the room was uncomfortable, sticky and hot. You 100% need a hire car if you plan to stay here, dinner reservation need to he booked in advance and the nearest resturant to the hotel is a 30min drive into Hilo.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Nice to sit with view overlooking the falls in a secluded spot. Good brekky
Cons: Getting into the water down the bottom is a bit of a pain
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The proximity to the falls was amazing. The caretaker Laura was particularly friendly and helpful.

9,2 Excellent
Pros: This is an out of the ordinary place to stay, like stepping back in time into a home from the 40s... room was comfortable & we loved Maureen’s pancakes for breakfast... and two minute walk away from an amazing spot to swim with turtles. If you don’t like the sound of birds or frogs at night, or a pet friendly home, this is not the place for you. If you do, you will absolutely love Maureen’s place, her friendly cat, and the dogs come and say hi too - truly memorable.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Maureen and Dean are great hosts
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Maureen makes this place perfect. She is very hospitable, friendly and makes you wanna return back and visit her place again. Rooms are cute and clean. For breakfast we had fresh fruit and Maureen’s homemade pancakes. The bnb is situated a couple of min. from the beach area where we saw turtles everyday - all in all, a great experience!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Cute Hawaiian quilt bed making, lots of relaxing sofas, adorable cats and owner hospitality, many delicious restaurants nearby, The seaside is near,
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The location was amazing, across the road were the most beautiful lagoons. Maureen was such a lovely host and provided us with all we needed. The house itself is beautiful and it was such a magic place to stay
Cons: The bathroom was shared with the opposite room, but that wasn’t a problem as everything was very clean.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: This is the most beautiful Bed and Breakfast! It was easy to relax as soon as you stepped in the front door. A good night’s sleep was easy here.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was great: The house very clean, the room with plenty of space, bathroom, breakfast with other guests and Maureen for very interesting discussions, location (2 min walk from a wonderful beach (no sand but sea turtles and clear water! & 10 min from Hilo’s downtown). The place is very peaceful and you can hear birds singing all day long
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautifully secluded home with exotic garden. Easy access from frontal road with private free parking. Inside the tri level home I found the singular warm country atmosphere inviting and comfortable. Open spacious screened decking, cozy clean bathroom facilities, lotsa books, comfortable bedrooms. The kitchen-dining area remarkable with a garden view. The property is practically across the street from the sea!
Cons: Nothing not to like. The guest is welcomed and spoiled by Maureen.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Maureen! Perfect hostess, good breakfasts, loaded with information and advice. Architecture of house awesome. Lots of places to relax. Friendly ambience. Will return.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Maureen is an amazing host and made us fell like we arrived at our best friend's place and home very quickly. You can borrow anything from cooling bag to beach towels, snorkling equipment and much more. She is also the best guide you can wish for living on Big Island since the 1980s. From quiche, fresh fruits, (blueberry) pancakes to waffles - you can get anything for breakfast. Rooms and facilities are super comfortable and clean. The swimming area and lagoon are just over the street. Is definitely the best place to stay in Hilo! Stayed here almost a week as it is so much to explore in this area: Mauna Kea, waterfalls, Volcanoe park and many more. In January we were super lucky and had a lot of sunshine each day although it is said to be the rainy part of Hawaii as well as the much greener one.

6,7 Good
Pros: Location is convenient, quiet.
Cons: The room smelled and humid. No daily housekeeping which was not spelled out clearly in description. Only emptying trash. They do exchange towels if needed. Room is so basic, rudimentary.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Staff was as nice and helpful as possible.
Cons: We needed to stay elsewhere after the room were booked for 4 days. Online said absolutely no refunds/cancellations. At the site the sign said cancellation within 48 hrs. We immediately told staff we only needed the room one night. She said it would be up to management to say if we could get a credit back for at least 2 of the nights. No such credit ever happened.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Nice community spaces. Amid wonderful beach parks and good neighborhoods to walk. 2 mi to Old Hilo.
Cons: Our room was small and as a couple during a rainy visit we didn't have a chair in our room.
5,0 Okay
Cons: The towels were thin and the bedsheets were also so thin they could be seen through. The sheets were also pilling making them uncomfortable. Having to go to the office for coffee and ice was silly. Most places have these available in the rooms. I understood the extra late charge, but considering the flights come in at late hours, you should accommodate for late checkins.
7,0 Good
Pros: Liked our two-bedroom unit and the hot shower that never ran out even with four adults! Liked the bike rentals on premise and closeness to beach parks.
Cons: Bed could have been more comfortable for me but no one else in our family complained!
7,0 Good
Pros: Outside of downtown Hilo, closer to the beach parks with turtles. Bikes available for hire, communal laundry area and large outdoor (undercover) areas for group gatherings or just to eat outside. Very nice atmosphere in the outside communal areas. Lovely staff. Unit had fans and air-conditioning.
Cons: Some of the beds were quite short, which was a bit strange. There was no kettle in our unit, only a coffee machine.

Pros: The staff at the front desk was incredible. I loved the gardens as well. Very filling breakfast. The candy at check in was delicious.
Cons: The rooms we packed. So much in a small area. I did not like how early the pool and seating area closed. It would’ve been nice to be able to sit outside and enjoy the environment in the evening. Why close the vending machine so early? No midnight s

Pros: The TV and Kitchen
Cons: Poor air conditioner needs to moved closer to the bed
10,0 Excellent
Pros: I liked basically everything. I highly recommend this place!! The manager Alan is super kind and thoughtful, gave us recommendations about neighbouring restaurants, beaches. He picked a papaya from the cottages garden for us, which was sweet and delicious. The next day he picked us another one and offered that we pick any fruit from the property. There was an orange tree, coconut palms and a papaya tree. He let us sit at his own porch where we enjoyed our breakfasts. The garden and the surroundings are lush and tropical. We rented bikes at the neighbouring place called Arnetts lodge and biked into Hilo. Mosquito nets on windows, clean interior, modern bathroom, full-body and smaller mirror, key-less entry (4-digit code), ceiling fan. Bed is not wider than 150-160 cm. Yellow tropical birds flying around. Blue-green small lizards - super cute. Breakfast included, what was offered to us: local fruit (papaya orange banana), breakfast muffins incl eggs and some sort of meat (maybe bacon) (frozen, to microwave), bread, margarine, strawberry jam, eggs.
Cons: Porch belonging to our room had a single plastic chair. ( I was able to sit there and place my drink and camera on the porch railing /fence).
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great location - easy walk to the beach. The facilities were perfect for our group. Staff is wonderful, friendly and helpful.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Basic breakfast materials were provided which we supplemented...but for a quick grab and go, there was plenty. Having a kitchen area is awesome.
Cons: Love this location. Great facility - had to find any fault.
5,0 Okay
Pros: This was a repeat visit: we stayed there seven years ago and remembered the host, Alan, very fondly. The location is very nice, close to a small beach with views across Hilo Bay to the port.
Cons: The breakfast was really, really disappointing. Last time, Alan cooked us some fried rice and there was plenty of fresh food. This time, there was the barest minimum: the cheapest white bread, the cheapest jam, and some raw eggs. Instead of butter, some kind of spread; the cutlery mismatched and rusty, the cooking oil of the cheapest variety. The milk for the coffee was off (my wife ruined her coffee by putting that milk in without smelling it first). Luckily, we had bought some dried aki the day before, which I chopped up and fried with eggs. Oh well. On a different note, the no-slip mat in the shower looked disgusting.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Me and my wife we love this place. It’s made us feel like home not a hotel. The owner was very nice he had fruits for us in the kitchen. At night we sleep very peaceful cause all the birds and animals sound. I would love to come back here again. Highly recommended to stay here, if you want to feel like living on the island.
6,0 Good
Pros: A short distance to Hilo township by car and a short walk to shoreline.
Cons: Some more crockery in the kitchen and a little more choice for breakfast would have been better. Cereal had run out one morning.

3,3 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing it's the first time we checked out early. We should stay for 3nights, but we left after 1night. The place is falling apart, it's dirty and noisy. You can hear everything over the paper walls even the live concert of coqui frogs. You have to run the water for 5minutes before you get hot water (very ecological). We asked for refund for the rest of the nights but they refused.
Cons: The place is really old(they don't care about the house at all). It's really dirty, the cleaning lady did what she could, but it's the old dirt which can't be cleaned.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The no frills, relaxed environment.

Pros: 10 minutes walk from town, relaxed ambient, hippy-like environment is great with meeting interesting people and getting suggestions on places to visit. Serves interesting continental breakfast items. Surrounded by flowering ginger plants.

8,2 Excellent
Pros: Location Price Check in was fast Check out was fast Hot water is very hot. Room was spacious.
Cons: Spotty almost non-existent Wi-Fi connection First room we checked into had not been cleaned, we had to go back to the front to let them know they had checked us into a room that had not been cleaned. Asked that the person who parked so close to my in-laws come down to move their car, person wasn't a registered guest, front desk did nothing, ignored us until we walked away. Parking spaces were too small. If you are not at your hotel by 5 p.m all the parking spots will be taken by other people, even if they aren't registered at the hotel, they don't check, so you will be stuck parking on the side of the street. Not enough outlets to plug in our phones. Other outlet in bathroom was loose and couldn't hold the cord for charge.
3,7 Mediocre
Cons: Well, it is old and dirty, mold every where. I did not get what I booked for. The worst is the coqui frogs killing me. I have to cancelled my second day booking and move to next door. After moving to next door, Ninalao hotel I can really tell the different. Overall, I definitely felt I was over charged for the stay in Uncle Billy. No more there.
4,5 Okay
Pros: Beds were comfortable. Good location.
Cons: The place was outdated and dirty. The bathroom looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months. We spent over a $100 for the night and the place was old and dirty. For this cost I would expect a more updated and certainly clean hotel room. The breakfast had muffins, toast and coffee. Not really much of a breakfast. The attached store offered few options for food as they were out of quite a few things. The frogs are a serious concern even with ear plugs.
4,0 Okay
Pros: Close to the airport, right on the bay, nice staff (average).
Cons: Such a dirty place! Couldn't believe the condition of the bathroom - mold everywhere, nasty stains on the walls, etc. The carpet throughout was probably never shampooed once in the 30+ years this place has been in operation. Being in this hotel was like being in a time machine set for 1979. Several parts of the lounge have been shut down completely. The view from the room was a disgrace. The people who work there are nice enough, but certainly not too busy to add a coat of paint or change the lobby flower arrangements (neither of which have been given consideration for a very long time). The room was terribly overpriced, and from the photos I had expected more. I'm so glad we only booked for one night!

Pros: Location
Cons: Old, stinky, falling apart...literally. would not recommend to anyone.

Pros: Was very pleased with my stay. Location is steps to Hilo Bay, next to the Queen Lili'uokalani garden right on Banyan Dr. Gregg at the desk was very pleasant and helpful. Slightly older facility, and the tree frogs do quiet down after midnight. Good value.

Pros: Big room with cute garden in back, big fridge & close to venue
Cons: Bath tub & counters in room were very slippery, most likely from shared cleaning/polish rag. Tub was so slippery I couldn't stand & fell entering, hurt my elbow, knee, foot & head while at international sports tournament. Manager came up (9:15pm) & after an hour told me there was nothing he could do, then offered me a different room(10:20pm), but refused to assist me in moving to other room even though injuries were too bad to do it alone since there was no bellman & he was only person on property. He informed me no one could fix it until Monday (Sat night was reservation) & to go to desk to fill out report in morning. In morning when I stopped by desk to fill out paper work after checking into another room at Naniloa hotel next door to take shower & rest, the Pagoda front desk phone was ringing non-stop with calls about water heater not working. They were responded to with a rude "I'll get to it when I can!" in a way that showed very little concern for the guests' needs for morning showers. I the main reason I got this room was to shower & sleep between a late night & early morning games, I was unable to do both because of pain, loud neighbors, huge bugs & lost hour to have managed do nothing.

Pros: Maureen and Dean are great hosts

Pros: Maureen makes this place perfect. She is very hospitable, friendly and makes you wanna return back and visit her place again. Rooms are cute and clean. For breakfast we had fresh fruit and Maureen’s homemade pancakes. The bnb is situated a couple of min. from the beach area where we saw turtles everyday - all in all, a great experience!

Cons: An absolute dump! I actually like to refer to this place as the dump of all dumps. Room had ants in it, about 5 diff kinds of hair around the bathroom sink and what looked like vomit on the bed skirt. A shocking display of ignorance by this hotel.
