R2 607+
Overview Reviews
Located in Portsmouth, Ale House Inn is within a 5-minute walk of Portsmouth Brewery and Strawbery Banke Museum. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The location was perfect. The hotel was very wonderful with nice and warm decoration. It takes only 10 mins walk to downtown. The staff was very polite and kind. I would love to stay at Ale House Inn again for my next visit.
Cons: Nothing
10,0 Excellent
Pros: I loved everything about this inn. Craig, the proprietor, could not have been nicer or more accommodating. He clearly loves Portsmouth and made great recommendations. The rooms are immaculate, beds super comfortable. You can walk anywhere. We easily walked to restaurants and shops, and Strawberry Banke Museum was an easy three minute walk, which was perfect because we were there for the Candlelight Stroll at the museum, which I highly recommend.
Cons: I can't think of a thing.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Friendly... and great location
Cons: We were fine with the accommodations.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Ale house is in a historic building...for a beer freak like me, that was awesome! I loved the exposed brick. It is also located near all the restaurants and shopping and is on the water. Craig, the host, is friendly and helpful. Oh, and they have nitro brewed coffee...cold/hot, and regular/decaf...for once I didn’t have to leave the hotel to find better coffee! We had the Best View (room 10 - king).
Cons: Some little things need fixing (like new floor installation in the bathroom, but they didn’t shave the bottom of the door to accomodate, so it sticks). Really not a deal breaker though.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We always stay here when in Portsmouth. Quaint but modern facilities, super friendly staff, and the perfect location to park the car and wander. What a pleasant surprise to find hot and cold coffee on tap on our last trip!
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean room and friendly staff, close to downtown.
Cons: If you park in the church lot across the street beware of where you are actually parking. Went inside to check in and by the time I came back outside I had a 40.00 parking ticket for non payment in the complimentary lot during available hours according to the staff and website.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The location - it was walking distance to everywhere, The room - with ipad, super clean, excellent wifi, Josiah at the front desk - who not only provided information for Portsmouth, but even gave me a list of places to see and do for a city i was visiting next, truly exceptional. And the free nitro cold/hot brew coffee and snacks at the lounge, impressive.
Cons: There was nothing that i didn't like
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was excellent! Our host was super friendly ! Will definitely be back!
Cons: The only thing I would say is our tv was out dated
2,0 Mediocre
Cons: After having booked our trip in early September we arrived to check in on November 2nd to be told they had booked our room with some one else for the weekend. Even though they could see that we had booked the room and they received the confirmation number in September. They neglected to ever enter into their system and booked the room for another customer. We were offered nothing even though we had done everything right on our end and had traveled over 3 hours to spend our 10th anniversary at their establishment. We were simply told sorry and left to find a hotel room somewhere else last minute.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Good climate controls, iPad in room preloaded with local restaurant info, very friendly staff.

Pros: Very nice view and the staff was great!
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Location is awesome...Loved our Oceanview suite with balcony! Everything was spotless and staff was extremely nice and helpful.
Cons: The beds were a little hard but I would definitely return as everything else was excellent!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great location on the beach Main Street incredible view 13 minute ride to Salisbury
7,9 Good
Pros: We were able to make same day reservations, which was quite nice. The clerk checking us in knew who we were before we even said our names, so that was unexpected and a sweet touch. When we needed help with the code getting into our room, the help was immediate.
Cons: As a West Coast person, I expect lodging on the beach to be "on the beach," not across a street, a parking lot, another street, and a sidewalk. Still, we could see and hear (when the traffic stopped) the ocean. Ocean sight and sound might have been better if we had been on an upper floor.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Right at the beach with nice ocean view
9,0 Excellent
Pros: the view of the ocean, balcony
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Nice property, but beds & pillows very uncomfortable. Mattress was too soft and sagged in middle.
Cons: Bed uncomfortable & no ice or cold drink machine.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Loved it there! View was amazing, room was clean! Beds need upgrade--saw that in the reviews before though so I was prepared...but w the view and how amazing the room was itself, that made up for it. We stayed in the dead of Winter and it was super affordable and still beautiful--w a view of the waves crashing!
Cons: Beds need new mattresses.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Very large rooms
Cons: The bed were more like a fold out couch.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Beach view

Pros: Even though I had booked the room and had the confirmation # the hotel did not have a room for me.
Cons: Even though I had booked the room and had the confirmation # the hotel did not have a room for me.
4,2 Okay
Cons: We were given a corner room which we were very happy with as it is usually a more quiet location building wise. Couldn't have been more wrong... Either an HVAC or some type of fan was located in the wall, behind a locked door, at the foot of our bed. It was EXTREMELY noisy. After several hours of trying to sleep, I called the front desk to request a room change. Yes, it was that noisy. No one answered at the desk after two attempts. I got dressed and went down to the lobby. No one could be found ! (It was 1am at that point). We ended up turning the heat down to its lowest setting and although we were freezing, it was somewhat more quiet. Not pleased at all.
6,0 Good
Pros: There was a good functional kitchenette and water pressure and temperature in the shower was very good. Good available breakfasts. Location was very good. Staff was friendly. WIFI connection worked well. TV placement mid-room on a swivel was good.
Cons: HVAC ducts and vents needed cleaning, they produced a musty smell and looked dirty. Ventilation overall did not seem to be effective. Bed was very hard. Room was quite worn and in need of refreshing. I I told management who said they'd take action.

Pros: Nice breakfast and it was clean.
Cons: When making the reservation I chose the 1 room option but the room we got was a studio. It was a nice room but not what I had selected. I didn't want to complain so didn't ask for another room.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: It was very well maintained and clean, the location was very comfortable and also close to shops for quick shopping, it is very secure which is a biggie for me. Have to have your room key to get into the main building and then into your room as well.
Cons: I really couldn’t complain

8,0 Excellent
Pros: I liked the location very much and the staff was extremely competent and helpful. The room was comfortable, bathroom was very nice and the common rooms were comfy and inviting. Lots of free parking!
Cons: I was pretty disappointed with the unvarying breakfast choices. The same thing every day which wouldn't be a bad thing if the choices were more interesting. i don't know who came up with the 3 featured items they offer but they are each of them quite weird and not very impressive. And, if you are staying multiple nights, they get very old very fast. It was a serious weak component in the hotel's presentation, in my opinion.

Cons: Water temperature in shower could have been better. Warm shower didn’t last long. The temperature went to cold before I could even wash shampoo out.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: Location was great! Easy walking to everything we wanted to go to.
Cons: Our room was apparently right above the event space, which on the first night we stayed had a wedding. The DJ at the event had the music so loud, that the bass was very intense in our room. We went down to tell the front staff and she just said “yeah sometimes the DJ’s mess with the sound system” and that was that. The music blared until 11. Said same staff woman was not all that pleasant. No greetings really when we walked in, it almost seemed like we were annoying her.

Cons: My wife wasn't impressed with the comfort of the bed
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The Old Salt has great food and they will deliver to the room. Cute place that is decorated really nice for Fall. The continental breakfast was really nice with many choices.
Cons: We arrived on a Thursday night and everything was fine until Sunday. Sunday morning we came back from brunch to wood boards, rolls of fabric and various other items lining the hallway. We had to step over and around the items to get into our room. We layed down to rest and there was noise. We left and came back to noise and items still lined the hallway. We found out they were building a haunted house that goes into the upstairs. My husband went to get ice and a man was startled and said "I didn't know anyone was staying up here". Monday evening was more of the same. When we returned from dinner a man was building something in front of our door and had to move so we could enter our room. The furniture that was usually placed throughout the hall as seating areas was placed around our door. Upon checking out on Tuesday morning we expressed our frustrations to the desk clerk who laughed it off and said "It only happens once a year." Such a cute place and The Old Salt has really good food.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Old time charm! Very nice staff! Nice continental breakfast! Very clean!
Cons: The bathroom was a little small and tub outdated. Nothing they can do about the size as it is an old Inn and it's part of the charm. But a new tub and definitely a new shower head would be good for room 47.

Pros: You do not need to leave the hotel. The restraunt and pub are terrific. Sunday brunch the best I have ever seen.
Cons: Second visit and just love this place. The staff is very nice and the food is the best. We will be back again soon.

Pros: Convenient location
Cons: Valet could have locked my car to secure my belongings. I was handed my keys and pointed in the direction of my car when I had to retrieve an item. This was when I found it unlocked. Staff was courteous and apologetic. Additionally, we were locked out of our hotel room when returning from breakfast. Had to go back to lobby to have them recode the room key. This was a minor annoyance that went without an explanation.

Pros: The location is great in the heart of Downtown Portsmouth.
Cons: The bed and bedding were a little dated and not super comfortable. I had an allergic reaction to the towels, whatever chemicals they use to clean then. I requested a room with a tub and that was not fulfilled.

Pros: I loved how clean everything was. I enjoyed their hot tub. The location was absolutely perfect -- right downtown, with access to practically everything Portsmouth has to offer within walking distance.
Cons: The price to store our vehicle (valet price) was outrageously high. We did use the service, I just didn't realize (or wasn't informed) the price was going to be $28 for a 24 hour period! We drank two bottled waters stored in the room was $6 total for the two.

Pros: Terrific Hotel. Great room.
Cons: Parking was either across the street for $20 or $25 for valet Parking.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff Great breakfast included with room Comfortable bed
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Close to historic area, upscale.
Cons: For the very low price, dealt with two queens vs King bed
7,0 Good
Pros: Wonderful people and very nice facilities. The area is beautiful.
Cons: The only negative thing I could say was that the website did not indicate that the pool wouldn’t be working. We booked this place in part for the pool because my nephew was traveling with us.
1,0 Poor
Pros: The hotel was fine if it had a pool like the website shows it does
Cons: I was specifically looking for a hotel with a pool so I filtered my search that way. Not only did the Sheraton come up in the results but I checked the site and it listed a pool under amenities and showed a picture of it. When my wife tried to use the pool, she was told the pool was no longer in use and was drained. This is nothing short of false advertising and I'm extremely unhappy.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Great room, nice restaurant.
Cons: The location was in an area where everything had pay parking including the hotel.
7,9 Good
Pros: Bed was comfortable, staff was helpful, location was great.
Cons: very noisy outside our room, the ice machine was literally across the hall. Not commensurate to the price for the room. Lighting in room wasn't very good in the evening due to its odd shape on a corner of the building. also requested in notes on the online booking that Champaign be awaiting in our room after dinner that never arrived, I proposed to my fiance this weekend.

Cons: No coffee bar

Pros: Great location, close to downtown Portsmouth (less than one mile) but secluded location surrounded by trees. You can choose to use the shuttle into town or drive. Complimentary hot breakfast, nice pool, clean and spacious room. We will stay here again!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was excellent. The cookies at three reception were the best.
Cons: Nothing
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean. We got the queen with extra room-nice.
Cons: Notified the day we arrived that the next day @10 am they had to change light in bathroom-they were all working. hmmm? We left before they came.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: New, clean and tidy.
Cons: Room coffee was a disaster. Get rid of it. Food is just OK.
7,5 Good
Pros: King bedroom suite was very comfortable. And looked well kept.
Cons: Indoor pool wasn't heated and was small. Posted sign said 15 people max. No hot tub at the facility. Outdoor fire pits, two of them, were "out of order".
4,8 Okay
Cons: Bed was uncomfortable, pet rates were absolutely unreasonable. We will avoid staying at Hilton
6,0 Good
Pros: The hotel offered a free bus transit into the town center. It arrived on time and the drivers were courteous.
Cons: Our room was in the family pet wing. I suffered from allergies our entire stay. The room had a stale pet odor. Unfortunately, the entire hotel was booked and we couldn’t switch rooms. It would be helpful for the site to offer a choice of pet/dander free options. Now I know to request such a room. The hotel was understaffed. Upon our return at 4:00 the room had not been cleaned or bed made. We had to find an attendant and ask her to make up our room. The front desk told me that some rooms weren’t done until 6:00. That seems unreasonable for a Hilton hotel at the rates we paid. Breakfast although abundant was powdered eggs, mushy corned beef hash, and rubbery hard boiled eggs. Yuk!
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Shuttle driver to and from the hotel and downtown Portsmouth was great. Recommended where to get the best seafood and dropped us at the door
4,6 Okay
Pros: The staff was friendly but not very knowledgeable.
Cons: We were so disappointed in this hotel. Our room was filthy. So expensive and not worth the money
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Full kitchen (oven, range, full fridge, dishwasher) - located near everything but in a quiet location - shuttle bus rides (mall, grocery store, C&J Trailways Bus Terminal) - allows large dogs - separate bedroom/living room - more spacious than expected
Cons: Would suggest checking dishes before use and bringing dish soap/sponge as any dishwasher will not scrape off burnt on food. Not many low sodium breakfast options except oatmeal or fruit. Scrambled eggs way too salty. Family enjoyed everything else.
5,0 Okay
Pros: Location close to downtown Portsmouth.
Cons: The bathroom had an unpleasant odor. The shower controls were broken, leading to very poor water pressure.
5,0 Okay
Pros: The king bed was comfortable and the breakfast was good
Cons: We specifically booked a suite with a pullout couch for our son. We were there for a wedding and got back to the room late and just wanted to go to sleep. We pulled out the bed from the couch and there was no bedding on it. And none to be found in the room. We also found beer bottle caps in the master bedroom near the nightstand. Definitely not what I would expect after spending $315 for the night!

Pros: cleanliness, friendly staff, easy to get to, quiet.

Pros: Good breakfast, nice staff
Cons: On our last day, we did not receive clean towels or make our bed or replenish shampoo.

Cons: bathrooms are a bit small.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Cleanliness
7,1 Good
Cons: The fact that no one in the surrounding hotel rooms knows how to be quiet. The people above us were stomping around all night. The people across from us decided to go in and out of their room every 5 seconds in the morning. You can hear every little thing. We got stuck in a room that was towards the front parking lot. Sunday morning there were people beeping at 8am. Monday morning someone in a diesel part directly outside of our window let their truck run for at least 20 minutes at 730am which was super loud and then our entire room smelt like diesel fuel. I get were not the only people here but if people could have some decency that would be amazing. Also the pillows are not comfortable.

The OC Studio Suites - Hampton Beach - Bedroom

2,0 Mediocre
Pros: Can’t say anything good about the place. It smelled so bad that even my 5 year old son couldn’t tolerate it. We almost left. There was hair all over the sheets, stains on the rug, the air conditioning didn’t work, broken (and filthy) pull out couch, there is no overnight staff on site after 6pm
Cons: I was told that the hotel was ON the strip, yet it was a mile and a half. You could walk, but then you’d regret it. So in order to get to the strip and see the fireworks, restaurants or beach, you have to drive down to the strip (with tons of traffic) and PAY to park there. Defeats the purpose of the “convenient” hotel. Also, if you stay one night, check-in is after 3:00 in the afternoon, and you have to be out by 11:00. What a joke. Waste of time and money. I can’t emphasize how bad it smelled. Even the hallways

Pros: In a quiet area at the north end of the beach. Off-road assigned parking in a covered spot. The room was very clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Cons: We were in the back building, so their was no view. Our parking space was hard to get in and out of, but I do have a large 4-door Jeep, and it wasn't impossible. Neighbors were talking very loud one night between 2-3AM, we simply shut the sliding door on the balcony and that quieted it down enough to get to sleep.

Pros: Nothing
Cons: VERY NOISY Paper thin walls could hear every body in parking lot every car that went by this property in the street any one in the hallway and not just in front of the room. Very small rooms.
5,4 Okay
Pros: That it had pool n hot tub... but couldn’t use them because they closed the area early...
Cons: That they closed the pool area way to early n the breakfast wasn’t anything to write home about... our room was under construction n they Never clean it n rented it out to us... there was so much dust in the room I had n allergic reaction n got sick n because I didn’t notice how bad it was because it was dark when we checked in... by morning you could see the dust....n I complained to the front n the refund my money.....
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything is pretty much standard like any other motel/hotel chains but one extraordinary thing is there is a makeup remover packet! That comes in handy for most women travelers!!!
Cons: the door could have better privacy (there is little gap between the door and the floor)
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Cleanliness of the room. The room was properly configured.
Cons: Looked from the street that it could use a renovation. The parking was a little tight.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: It was very nice. Small pool but very clean. Breakfast was good.Room was clean and beds comfy. Easy to get to and from the beach.
6,0 Good
Pros: No problems, quiet despite being on a main street.
Cons: no
4,8 Okay
Pros: The location was good to visit my son. However they do have a difficult driveway and parking lot.
Cons: Smells! This place has bad smells that they try to cover up with carpet cleaner and other "air fresheners" the combination is like a perfumed hog farm!
6,0 Good
Pros: The bed was comfortable and it was clean. The staff was pleasant.
Cons: I had to wait to fall asleep with a pillow over my head. The people in the next room were talking until about midnight and I could hear them and I was unable to fall asleep. Note: they were talking in normal voice. This was offseason. I think it would be dreadful in season with a full house. The outside street noise came in through the window even being on the second floor. The soap in the bathroom was like cardboard and did not lather. The room was very small.
9,7 Excellent
Pros: The room and bathroom were newly redone and very clean. Pool and hot tub area were also very clean/. Freshly baked cookies in the lobby and coffee available 24 hours. This hotel was wonderful
Cons: For me, proximity to the beach is very important. That can't be changed, but is the only thing that would have made the stay better.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: This is our second time staying here. Updated and clean. Friendly staff. Close to Hampton Beach and many other things to do.
Cons: They were busy with it being Memorial weekend. They did not have enough parking.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: comfortable and clean. the staff was great
Cons: the rooms are all non-smoking. our room smelled like smoke. the staff gave us an odor neutralizing spray and was very apologetic. once the air conditioner was on and we sprayed the room several times, the smell dissipated to minimal.
