8,5 Excellent
Pros: Excellent service--definitely well attended and pampered. Beds are comfortable and maid service spot on. The location of the hotel makes it peaceful, good views, and quiet. But it requires driving around to the beach, any activities, and food is extremely limited in options/budget choices for miles.
Cons: There are two parts of the resort, a distance apart on a hill. While they are great about providing shuttles, it does really make a difference. The Summit: where the kids club room is located, so it was important for us to be here. But the pool is smaller, and the spa/restaurant are a distance away. The Meadows: feels a bit swankier, the main lobby of the hotel where to get beach equipment and movies. So staying here might be more central/convenient. NIcer pool and longer food service for pool.

Beach Terrace Inn - Carlsbad - Building
4
9,2 Excellent (426 reviews)
R4 532+
Overview Reviews
Beach Terrace Inn is in the heart of Carlsbad but on a quiet street that suites the hotel’s Zen, surfer-like ambiance. Nestled between costly beach cottages, the hotel maintains an upscale resort aesthetic without feeling stuffy. Kids enjoying the beach, lounging older couples, and young couples hitting the Southern California waves all can be found here. However, the atmosphere is suited best for couples seeking a relaxing holiday. Located right on the beach in the heart of Carlsbad, The Beach Terrace Inn is in a pristine location. There are plenty of shops, restaurants, and entertainment within walking distance, but the commuter rail line that connects to San Diego's Gas Lamp Quarter is two blocks away. The main local attraction is Legoland California, just ten minutes from the hotel. Several great beaches, golf courses, and lagoon are fairly close, but downtown San Diego is a 40-minute drive away. Aside from free parking and a private beach, amenities are scarce. There is an outdoor heated pool and whirlpool surrounded by a deck with plush lounge seating. The WiFi is free, as is the continental breakfast. Beach chairs and umbrellas are also available to guests free of charge. When it comes to the rooms, the main draw is that some rooms feature ocean views situated right over the sand and offer private balconies. All of the rooms are large and feature conveniences such as custom pillows, flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, mini-fridges, and wet bars. Business travelers enjoy the full work desks in every room. The toiletries come in bulk sizes which is uncommon for boutique hotels. Beach Terrace Inn offers the ultimate escape on a private stretch of beach. Travelers looking for a beach escape will find a haven at the hotel.
6,8 Good
Pros: Staff was very friendly and helpfully
Cons: Took a while to check in as they seemed to be short staffed at the front. Attendant was very nice, just a bit overwhelmed with number of guest. Room was not as luxurious as expected but bathroom was nice.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything!!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: I have stayed at the Beach Terrace Inn several times and have always been happy with the staff and service. The rooms are large and well appointed. The location is great as it is on the beach with most rooms having full, unobstructed views of the beach and Pacific Ocean. It is also only a block away from very nice restaurants and shops. No street noise, just the sound of the surf.
5,1 Okay
Pros: The view was picturesque . Shannon the at the front desk carries this place, she should go into hotel management.
Cons: Seriously outdated rooms, tripped several times on the uneven flooring in room 26. The carpet felt like it had been laid over another carpet that had been folded over in different areas. Bedding was not what I expected for the money that they charged for an exclusive room. Maid service needs basic bed making 101, how to tuck in the bottom sheet so patrons feet are not touching the mattress pad. Pool was cloudy, ran out of towels. All round we were not impressed with anything the Beach Terrace Inn had to offer. CHEAP.
9,7 Excellent
Pros: I liked: Friendly, helpful staff Location on the beach Large attractive room with king bed Pool & beach facing room view Large fancy bathroom Room fridge Wine glasses and corkscrew provided Very close parking Continental breakfast buffet and ample seating Beach equipment loan
Cons: I didn't like: Area traffic Steep, narrow stairways High price (well, it was right on the beach!)
9,1 Excellent
Pros: Loved being right on the icean and watching sunsets and hearing surf right out of our room. Appreciated continental breakfast. Lovely accomodations. Might be a little difficult for handicapped person to get around, however.
Cons: The Internet service kept booting me off. My husband could not talk on his iphone (sprint) unless he went out in front of the hotel. I guess Carlsbad limits cell towers.

8,0 Excellent
Pros: My sister recommended this hotel and we were pleased. Room was great; the bathroom is probably one of the bigger one I've seen (you can get out from the shower without almost touching the toilet). Having a functional kitchen is a plus. Continental breakfast is offered which is nice, so I don't have to make an extra stop to feed the kids in the morning. Staff we dealt with are nice and courteous. Our destination is LEGOLAND which is very close by. It is also close by stores like Costco and Target.
Cons: Breakfast hour is from 7 - 9, which works for business travel but for family vacation, the hours are too early and I feel rushed to get out of bed and downstairs to grab a bite. This may just be me, but there is no dimmer light in the bedroom side - there are only two very bright one on the nightstand, and you cannot turn on the bathroom light (where the counter is) without the light shining to the beds and disturb whoever is sleeping there. Walls are definitely thin, the room above us was probably doing DDR the whole time we were there and the room next to our bedroom was listening to music all night long. =\
8,5 Excellent
Pros: Good location, the staff is friendly, and the rooms are spacious and clean. The free breakfast was very good.
Cons: Since there isn’t a full service restaurant, there aren’t any restaurants close by (if you are new to the area). It’s really just located around other hotels. There are no facilities for charging an electric vehicle. There is an outdoor outlet, but it’s located right next to a handicapped parking space. That’s a deal-breaker for us, so we won’t stay there again. There are hotels nearby that do have those stations so they really need to upgrade.
8,0 Excellent
Cons: Families with screaming kids at breakfast. Did not matter if it was 6am or 8am. Should have adult only seating area at breakfast.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We spent one night here after a visit to Legoland. Room was clean. Staff was friendly. Everything was newer. The kids loved it. We were very happy and will definitely stay here again.
Cons: There were a few ants in the kitchen the following morning. It happens. Notified the front desk upon checkout.
8,2 Excellent
Pros: Location, value, friendly staff
Cons: Automatic lights that can't be turned off. Woke me and my kids up repeatedly. Called down to the front desk and they said they could send an engineer up, but my kids were already asleep in the living room. Other than this, great hotel.

6,0 Good
Pros: Great location. Nice staff.
Cons: Very noisy because with multiple events with loud music.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Georgeous, tranquil spot that makes you feel like you are truly on vacation.
Cons: I wish the check-in time had been earlier and the check-out time had been later. There's not a whole lot you can take advantage of (pool, spa, gym, tennis, bike rides, bars, etc) between the hours of 4pm and 11am if you are only staying one night.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice hotel in an ideal location. You can park your car and forget about it (or not bring one). The beach is across the street and the village (Old Del Mar) has everything you need for a long weekend stay.
Cons: The lobby and rooms are nice but the property overall feels like it could use a freshening - it's a bit dated. Small quibble though because this really is a terrific place to stay. I'll be back for sure.

5,7 Okay
Pros: The people were wonderful. Really not worth the money - I've stayed at much nicer hotels for less.
Cons: Just not my cup of tea. I was there for a conference and the conference was held at the hotel - so it was convenient - I will probably stay offsite next year for less money.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Love this place... Property grounds are impeccable! Rooms are clean and updated. Always a great time!
4,3 Okay
Cons: The pool was way too overcrowded. I think they sell membership to to the pool to the community making it unusable to the hotel guests. There were so many people you could hardly move in it and the water was so cloudy I couldnt even see my feet. Will never go back to this hotel.
7,7 Good
Pros: Loved the setting and the grounds. The room size was huge with a separate bath tub from the shower stall which was really nice. Love the out door patio and the staff was very friendly.
Cons: The room smelled very musty and was freezing, probably to hide the smell. I never could get the room warm enough for my wife and I but fortunately, it was a VERY WARM weekend and we left the french doors open the whole time to get that desired warmth into the room. We were an older room of theirs so I'm not sure if this is the reason for the musty smell but it was pretty strong for our stay there. Had I been there more than one night, I definitely would have requested another room.
9,7 Excellent
Pros: I liked that the resort has a welcoming feel and that most all of the rooms (besides the villas) were surrounded by the amenities.
Cons: 1. The prices in the Marketplace. $16 for a water noodle, when they sell them for $7 right down the street! That would be hard especially for people who are having to buy for more than one kid. 2. Our bed. It was not very comfortable
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great resort and facility. Wonderful staff.
6,2 Good
Pros: Location
Cons: A lot of deferred maintenance, paint and baseboards worn out.
9,1 Excellent
Cons: They didn't have my reservation and asked me to send an email to confirm that I had a reservation
9,7 Excellent
Pros: Restaurant had great good and the views were beautiful.
Cons: Updated room decor.
7,1 Good
Cons: We were looking for a quiet getaway; this was not it. There were families with kids above and next to our room and we got pretty bad sleep. Slamming doors, loud TV's, running and on and on - quite late and then early in the morning. I asked for a quiet room and got nothing but noise.
7,6 Good
Pros: The room and pool area was nice. Blue fire grill was fabulous!
Cons: Front desk staff was unhelpful on multiple occasions. The day spa is mediocre at best and is long overdue for renovations! Indoor facility grout is disgusting and the indoor hot tubs are falling apart!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: everything
Cons: The bathroom was too small for the room

4,8 Okay
Pros: Clean rooms
Cons: This place is simply a fancy motel charging hotel prices. Service was no different from a motel. Resort fee was a joke.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: We LOVED our one-night stay at the Lakehouse! From the moment we arrived to the moment we left - everything was perfect. We booked it last minute as a fun little getaway during the holidays. We got a pretty good deal since we stayed the night before New Year's Eve (12/30). The hotel texted us to let us know our room was ready and we were able to check in around 1 PM. We had a ground floor pool view room. Every room has a balcony with bright yellow adirondack chairs and it was really nice sitting outside our room, with a cup of coffee and my book. They had quiet reggae music playing at the pool and I really enjoyed it! The room was IMMACULATE. Everything felt new and crisp and clean. I loved the color scheme and layout too. The room was really spacious and just overall lovely. It was just 2 of us for one night but I did notice that there were a TON of outlets throughout the room. Nice touch in this day and age when we all have so many electronics to charge :) The pools were both heated and almost warm enough for me to swim in (On December 30, mind you). We loved the jacuzzis though! I wish we'd been there on a Friday when they serve Sangria at the pool! (oh well, we'll just have to go back). In the evening they have fire pits around the pools that they light and it was really pretty and romantic. The grounds were really peaceful and tranquil. And even though the hotel was probably at low to moderate capacity - it feels like the type of place that even when it's full, it doesn't feel crowded. I noticed that another couple was checked into the room next to us, and there were people above them, but I never heard anyone at all when we were in our room. They serve free coffee in the morning at their little cafe and it was better than that your standard free hotel coffee. We walked by the lake, but didn't participate in any of the many lake activities. I also went for a run in the neighborhood in the morning and it's a really cute little community. We had a great time at the Lakehouse and kept saying we really wanted to bring friends back!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Super helpful and friendly staff, nice facilities, pools were awesome for relaxing during the day.
Cons: The check-in time of four and check-out time of eleven is a little tight, but we requested a later check out (noon) and that made it closer to what we are used to at other hotels. They offered to let us use the pool after checking out so that was really nice of them.
9,7 Excellent
Pros: The s'more kit upon check in, super friendly and helpful staff. Very nice room, comfortable and well maintained.
Cons: We were in town for a soccer tournament and the weather was in 60s so we would have liked to enjoy the pool and lake activities.
8,5 Excellent
Cons: Tons of bugs. Couldn't use the beautiful balcony.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: I loved the room and the fact that it was right by the lake. It had a great view.
Cons: The only thing I didn't like was that hardly and water came out from the shower or the sink but besides that everything else was great!
8,0 Excellent
Pros: The Lakehouse has a lot of potential and gets a lot of things right, but it lets the little details get in the way of really hitting the mark. Pros: - Comfortable beds - Full showers - Beautiful pools - Friendly staff - Free Wi-Fi - Free parking - Mini fridge - Activities for kids
Cons: Cons: - Noise - Bugs - Outside light - No safe in room - No plugs at computer desk - Wi-Fi drops and is unreliable Most rooms are motel-style and open directly to the outside, which can be noisy and makes it much easier for bugs to end up in the room (especially with the rooms being so close to the lake). We had mosquitos and silverfish in our room two or three days in a row.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything - it was very unassuming and we were more than surprised.

6,5 Good
Pros: Location. Large rooms. Nice amenities.
Cons: Cockroaches in bathrooms by pool area. Should provide easier access to beach towels.
8,5 Excellent
Cons: The property overall is quite noisy from the inside guest traffic not outside street traffic. Whenever closeby guests move around, take showers or walk outside the rooms, we heard pretty much everything. It seems the property us quite old and does not have guest noise cancellation of any form. Thank you.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Can't beat the location.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: The location across the street from the beach, near Carlsbad Village, and Legoland was great. Nice size rooms. The Rec room, in-room DVD players, and DVD library are great for families. Free parking, wifi, and breakfast.
Cons: Tub and shower tile a little dated. The beds and bedding were not as comfortable as other hotels.

When you stay at Les Artistes Inn in Del Mar, you'll be near the beach, within a 5-minute drive of Del Mar Beach and Del Mar Fairgrounds. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
8,5 Excellent
Pros: We loved the location as our east coast friends were visiting and rented a home right down the street, a bit closer to the ocean. That being said, we were only in our room a short time each day. We woke up, hung out with them, then came back to sleep. Comfortable beds and I was really happy to find the room had air conditioning! A heat wave in October in Del Mar, unheard of...til now!! Coffee available in the a.m. and a nice shared patio to relax and drink it.
Cons: Our room was pretty cramped but I appreciated the kingsize bed! Once we put our suitcases on the only chair in the room and the bench against the wall, there was no where to sit. Again, it worked for us since we weren't in the room very much. Also, it's very nice that there are so many sitting areas to choose from outside of the guest rooms. With great ambience as well...artwork, garden fountain, plants.
2,0 Mediocre
Cons: THE STAFF WERE THE MOST UNPROFESSIONAL I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED. I WAS ASSAULTED BY A STAFF MEMBER BEFORE I EVER CHECKED IN WHICH I FORTUNATELY RECORDED ON MY PHONE. POLICE HAD TO BE CALLED. I LEFT THIS HOTEL AND HAD TO CUT MY VISIT SHORT BECAUSE OF THIS EXPERIENCE. IT IS THE STRANGEST AND MOST DANGEROUS PLACE I HAVE EVER BOOKED TO STAY. I WOULD NOT - LET ME REPEAT - I WOULD NOT STAY AT THIS ESTABLISHMENT AT ANY TIME.

Pros: The room, the breakfast, the staff.
Cons: card key didn't work at the two back doors.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great customer service from beginning to end. We booked several rooms along with a conference room and the staff were all helpful to us. Complimentary breakfast was good and had variety. Bed was comfortable and amenities were plenty. Several fast food places right next door. Would definitely stay again.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Staff that checks us in and out were just dolls. Really sweet. Very receptive to my children. Rooms were extremely clean. Breakfast was great. Always replenished. Omelets cereal waffles fresh fruit potatoes toast muffins not from the supermarket. Cookies juices milk coffee hot chocolate chicjen sausage bagels lots of different spreads for the breads and waffles. Oatmeal cottage cheese. And it was a Monday! Weekdays at most hotels serve basic pastry utems cereal and toast. They save the restaurant style for weekends only. It was quiet on my 2nd floor. The small room they have filled with grocery items was convenient. They offer free newspapers a treasure box for kids to Rumsfeld through. A treat for the children. The eating area is very nice. Not a bunch of wooden tables. Nice cushioned seats. Exercise room was clean and well lit. Parking was easy to access.
Cons: Pool seems small pool area as well. 4pm check in. I usually go to hotels that are 1-3pm check in. Check out is noon. So, that's not giving me s full 24hr stay. A 20hr stay.
7,1 Good
Cons: Jacuzzi was cloudy with a beautiful green fungus color.
5,7 Okay
Pros: Clean room, we'll lit, quite location. The housekeepers/laundry staff were working hard, definitely making the place clean.
Cons: Parking is horrible for anything larger than a compact car. Not the easiest place to park a full size chevy suv. The beds....well at least they were clean. Comfort was non existing. I've had better sleep after a pot of coffee, but what was even worse than the bed was the response I received from the staff at the front desk when I brought it up. It was almost as if a requirement to work the front desk was to have a "I'm better than you" attitude. Very dry and callous demeanor.

Pros: Great location and good breakfast
8,0 Excellent
Pros: LOCATION
Cons: Lighting, low quality coffee maker and coffee.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: You are literally right across the street from a great beach! We could walk down and swim and play for a few hours, go back and do other things, then head down again if we wanted! Amazing views! We saw dolphins (or porpoises?) while eating breakfast!
Cons: This is not a big deal . . . they only had pre-packaged breakfast foods, but that was because they were remodeling their kitchen and they posted a notice about it, so by the time someone else goes, the breakfast will probably be even better than it was!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The service was great! The rooms were clean and quiet. The free breakfast was good and the view from the breakfast room was fantastic. They also had a balcony to sit and eat also which had an awesome view of the ocean.
4,0 Okay
Pros: The location was very nice and the hotel was ok. the staff was good. The breakfast was good
Cons: Saturday night was terrible. Other guests were loud and obnoxious from 2200 to 0300 hrs. We called down to the office 2 times and other guests hollered down to the party in the courtyard to go somewhere else but the party continued. We got not refund
10,0 Excellent
Pros: I really liked everything about this hotel. Location, cleanliness and size of the room. The amenities and the proximity to restaurants and the beach.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: We loved everything the moment we walked in! Thank you for making our mini moon perfect, Cape Rey!
6,0 Good
Cons: Food was awful, I would have expected better especially considering the simplicity of my order and the cost. I ordered a cheeseburger which was burned and the worst quality. The pizza I ordered tasted like cardboard. When I was checking out I waited about 5 minutes for the front desk agent to come back, she came up from the hallway with a cup of coffee in hand and didn't even apologize for the wait.

Pros: Cape Rey was a lovely place to stay and I wouldn't mind coming back for a longer stay. Only had the chance to spend a beautiful weekend there, can't imagine how amazing it'd be in the summer. Staff was very helpful, approachable and kind.

Pros: Comfortable beds, large rooms, good breakfast (room service), Starbucks coffee pods in the room, very friendly and accommodating staff.
Cons: Parking layout, room service got the room number wrong, would be nice if the provide additional free water bottles for the room.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Very kid-friendly and the proximity to Legoland was nice. The staff were generally pretty helpful. The gym had a good selection of equipment.
Cons: For the price, the room that we had was sub-par. The wallpaper in the bathroom was peeling and the shower was pretty run-down. Although some of the gym equipment had televisions built in, there was limited volume despite the supplying of headphones. Couldn't really hear anything while running on the treadmill.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Room was spacious and clean, shower was great, location was great.
Cons: I was woken up by housekeeping in the morning on the day I checked out- I would have liked to sleep in! And I don't like the hidden "resort fee".
