Pros: We were met with a warm welcome by Jackie who took us to our room and explained everything that we needed to know about our stay. As we'd gone for the races at Carmel she advised us to order a taxi as soon as possible, which we really appreciated. The breakfast was lovely and everything was locally produced, there was such a great selection to choose from. We had a perfect stay there and couldn't fault anything. Highly recommend and we will be returning next year.
Cons: Couldn't find fault with anything.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: This is a fabulous place to stay, the location is central and has free parking. Our room was huge with a spa bath and walk-in shower, tea and coffee plus bottles of wine for £15.00 if you are so inclined. The breakfast was substantial and tasty, using lots of local produce. The host was really welcoming and very happy to recommend places to visit, eat etc. There is some ongoing refurbishment but we did not experience any noise and were not disturbed at all. on our last day we had a little tour of the suites which are on the lower ground floor and these are really special. One has a double spa bath and a little sauna room. The three rooms on the lower ground are also interconnecting, so if you were staying as a big group they would be perfect.
Cons: Liked everything
10,0 Excellent

10,0 Excellent
Pros: It was a really cozy and pretty house and I could feel everthing I anticipated from British family-run B&B. It was like visiting my mother's house: always super cleanly maintained, touched with necessary but carefully chosen items such as curtains, pretty dishes and tea sets, chairs and cushions. Bathroom was also very modern and the room has everthing that is necessary to travelers. And the breakfast was great. Hot English breakfast with tea and fruits and cereals, all were prepared and provided with care. I could feel the owners' delicate touch in every corner of the room and the house.

Pros: They were very accomodating with arrival time. The place was peaceful and relaxed. Great place to get a good night's sleep before our charity swim in the lakes.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The location was great as it was easy to get to other places from it. Jenny and Stuart were very friendly and have absolute attention to detail. Breakfast was lovely and you can choose what you want the night before. There is a pub just behind the B&B serving great food in the evening too. I had a side entrance straight to my room and a balcony/terrace to sit on in the evening which was lovely and private. I like baths too after walking and Jenny had also provided foam bath and a bath robe. The place is also a greyhound rescue centre and I hardly ever heard the dogs.
Cons: You have to cross over a dual carriageway to turn into Witherslack from the right. However, after a couple of days I found a tunnel which went under the carriageway which made life a lot easier.

Pros: Stunning views and everything good quality and can tell thought and care given to every choice from the yogurt at breakfast to the shampoo and conditioner
Cons: The booking.com website only allowed us to pick a check in time after 4 but the owner thankfully mailed to advise we could check in earlier
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The fantastic view, the Bose in the room and the flame effect fire. Plenty of wardrobe space and a good shower. Delicious flapjacks and proper milk for a cuppa. All the little extras supplied like reading material and solitaire.
Cons: It would be a good idea to leave condiments in the suites as on the 2nd morning we didn't get any. Would prefer to see serving staff with their hair tied up out of the way especially when it is very long. Individual sugar cubes in cellophane wrapping not good for the environment. Not keen on having to choose breakfast and state a time the day before and last serving 9am just a little bit too early, not relaxing.

Bedroom door very thin! Also cold shower in morning. When mentioned as we were leaving and settling bill we were offered room key back to have shower... £182 a night! This was supposed to be a romantic treat.
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The decor was bright and relaxing. The breakfast menu was varied and cooked fresh to order.
Cons: The wash basin in our small double room was in the bed room not the bath room. Instead of small UHT milk packs they supplied fresh milk for the room which soured over night due to the heat.

Cons: A very noisy bar below the room, however the ear plugs provided proved useful. A warm room where we had to have the windows open. Unfortunately this was directly above the alley way where noisy smokers gathered therefore the noise and worse, the smoke invaded our space.

Pros: Nice location could be a fantastic venue just needs further upgrading.
Cons: The rooms and the whole venue need further improving updating which I appreciate is a costly exercise however the cost of the room due to the need of the upgrades is not good value
9,5 Excellent
Pros: The service was very good and the staff working there were very helpful and fond of their bosses the owners which is a very good sign i feel that the place is run well. The breakfast was excellent as was the restaurant and the bar was well stocked with a good selection of wine and gin ! We were given a complementary glass of Prosecco as it was our wedding anniversary which was a sweet touch
Cons: we could not have the room we wanted as someone had damaged it and it could not be repaired in time. We were given a lovely room in the annex and we were happy with it .I think the owner would have been better to advise us beforehand as in our case it was a special request for old time sake but overall it did not in any way diminish our enjoyment of our stay.

Pros: Restaurant
Cons: TV not working
7,0 Good
Pros: Very helpful staff, stopped serving food and the staff went out of their way to get us food and make sure we had everything we needed.
3,3 Mediocre
Pros: Not a lot really. Hotel trying very hard to be something they will never be. The only thing I could be positive about was a comfy bed.
Cons: Very dull rooms. Room in need of a new flooring in the bathroom area. Rooms very dull. Television in room was so small and very old remote did not work. Bathroom light glass shade missing, this could be seen as dangerous be some people. Cups in the room had not been cleaned since the last time they where used. Breakfast terrible, the service at breakfast was very poor. Took our order and then brought one breakfast completely wrong we ordered one English breakfast and one vegie breakfast, got two English breakfasts.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Bed was super comfy, room had a bath, staff were really polite.
Cons: There was a big crack in the bathroom door and it was very hot- air conditioning would've been great (didn't want to open the window as it was very close to the road).
9,5 Excellent
Pros: Location was excellent. Only a two minute walk to station. Rooms was ideal and plenty of space . Restaurant was excellent and a good meal to choose from . Breakfast was excellent.
Cons: Think the only thing we were disappointed with was that we had been out all day and had just got off a train and arrived back at hotel at 10.15pm on probably the hottest day of the year to find that the bar was closed. We wanted a cold drink and couldn’t get one...
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was ok - another piece of bacon would have been welcome - a bit pricey for what it was.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff are very pleasant Breakfast was cooked really well no grease Very clean
Cons: We stayed in room 20 it was a good size but a little tired ie chair was a bit threadbare and couple of tiles missing in bathroom
9,3 Excellent
Pros: The only downside was the dormer window in our bedroom did not close and the noise from the traffic and seagulls made it impossible to get a good nights sleep We wouldn't stay in room 22 again
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Our room provided everything we required for our stay, first impressions of the room was great, it was tidy, presentable n welcoming. The bed was very comfortable and the general facilities tea coffee and television were more than adequate for our needs. Thanks
Cons: Only the road noise at night, some seem to think it's good to use as a race track. Which is beyond the control of The County Hotel.

Pros: Beautiful Hotel in excellent location. Food was exceptional. Pleasant and courteous staff
Cons: Room 31 located above kitchen area, very noisy, wakened up at 6.30am by noise and bins being emptied. Bed and pillows too firm for my liking. put in this room as we had dog with us. Noise from kitchen all day till 9.45pm

9,5 Excellent
Pros: Evening meal at the hotel reasonably priced, I really enjoyed each course. Highlight would be the scallop starter
Cons: Slight stain on wall behind tea/coffee facilities
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff Clean Good food Beautiful setting Lovely Spa facilities
Cons: Television in our room had no signal. WiFi was slow. Our room key was difficult to use and cumbersome when compared with a key-card. Door closers on the room doors would be a good addition, when leaving with all our hands full we let the door go and it SLAMMED! behind us.
5,5 Okay
Pros: The staff were friendly and the appearance of the hotel was great. The location had good links to other areas of the Lake District and it was easy to find. There was a pleasant gym within the facility.
Cons: The property was not advertised correctly. On the booking.com listing of the property, the room was listed as having a sofa and the pictures shown were of the Bridal suite and not of the standard double that we had booked. The facilities included a pool, which the hotel did not have. The wifi was really poor and the room we were given was small and outdated. It was listed as a "garden view" but we overlooked the bins and the staff break out area. The staff threw glass bottles into the bins at all hours of the day and were talking and shouting very loudly within that area. We also found a massive spider with about 30 of its babies in a web in our room. The spa was very overcrowded when we went and there was no loungers to sit on while we waiting for a turn in the 3 people plunge pools that are available.

8,8 Excellent
Pros: Comfy room. Excellent staff. Lovely location.
Cons: There needed to be a door to separate the bathroom from the bedroom. Quite embarrasing using toilet facilities.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: It had the charm that we expected of a country inn. The room was comfortable and very clean. The staff were friendly and helpful and dinner was excellent.
Cons: Perhaps because the plumbing was as old as the inn and the weather was hot, the water had to run for some time before we could get even cool water. Also, access to the car park was through the lounge which in the morning, when we wanted to pack the car, meant that it was an awkward set of stairs and corridors that had to be navigated. This was really only an issue because we had some heavy luggage.
5,0 Okay
Pros: the breakfast was good
Cons: the bedroom had no door between it and the bathroom so no privacy when you were in the toilet
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Dog friendly and a good base to visit the Lake District
Cons: Just alot of stairs for our elderly dog
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Lovely location. Staff very friendly. A good place to take your dog. Very comfortable bed We had a lovely 2 day break. We were well looked after by the staff here. 2 very good meals. Breakfast good. Felt at home. Thoroughly recommend The Derby Arms
Cons: The door to our room stuck on the carpet so it made it difficult to close the door. Bathroom not thoroughly clean. Would have liked a shower.
3,3 Mediocre
Pros: Checking out
Cons: The bar was in need of a deep clean. Badly stained cushion covers on seats. Dust and dirt around edges of bar area. Various awards for food on display but we found it very average and pricey for bar meals. Bedroom was clean but the carpet is in desperate need of replacing and has awful looking large stains on it. Only one window could be opened as other one was jammed with paint. Couldn’t keep window open in any case as room was directly above outside smoking areas. Bed was hard and uncomfortable and then add in guests from hell in others rooms shouting above screaming kids and constant slamming of doors as they ran in and out of rooms and this stay was an absolute nightmare. We were booked in for 2 nights but left after one sleepless night. Best thing about the Derby was definitely the staff who were very pleasant and friendly.
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The food in the restaurant was excellent, staff were very friendly and welcoming. Location was quiet.
Cons: The water in the shower was too cold and there was no cold running water from the tap in the bathroom. Pillows were too soft but apart from that well recommended especially if you have a dog as they are very dog friendly.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Good food and quiet. On the motorway, but 100m away, so quiet. Good food and beer, lovely people.
Cons: A view on the map shows you, that you have to have a car. The shower (type rainfall is not my thing)
7,0 Good
Pros: Food was amazing. Bed was very comfortable. Enjoyed continental breakfast was great. Dog friendly.
Cons: Only hot water coming out the sink taps. The shower was cold and wouldnt warm up no matter how long it was running. Carpets could do with a clean in the room.
6,8 Good
Pros: A clean and comfortable room with a huge en suite bathroom. Friendly and pleasant staff and excellent beer.
6,7 Good
Pros: Staff could not be more obliging-Room kept clean and beds made up every-day-Food of the highest order with a varied menu .
5,0 Okay
Pros: The staff were very helpful and welcoming. The area was attractive and was close to the motorway . It provided acess to the southern lakes 20mins and the northern lakes 40mins.Internet access was good I would stay there again.
Cons: There were a number of minor and expected problems. The room had a musty smell as did the corridor. The sink in the en suite was cracked but it was perfectly usable and the owner said she was going to address the issue. The main problem was the fact that the Derby Arms is a very popular pub and eating place in the area.Noise levals were high a problem made more difficult by having to have the windows open due to the musty smell and the humidity in the room.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: All the staff were friendly, very helpful and attentive to our requirements including finding storage inside for 3 bikes. All rooms in the hotel decorated tastefully in very comfortable surroundings. Bedroom and en suite bathroom very good. The hotel provided excellent meals with an exciting menu.
6,7 Good
Pros: We really liked our room -a big and comfortable bed (enough space for 2adults and a moving around baby:-))) lovely, clean bathroom, decor. Staff were really friendly and helpful and they gave us a warm welcome even though we arrived after 23:00. Breakfast was nicely presented and tasted good.
Cons: We could hear a big bang every time someone was trying to shut the door between a little hall leading to the toilets and the pub. It was quite annoying especially in the late evening. When we mentioned it to the hotel staff they promised to rectify the problem.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff, clean room, good food. Continental breakfast excellent. Good value for money
Cons:
6,0 Good
Pros: Bed huge and extremely comfortable which I find to be rare when staying away.
Cons: Had booked a room which was advertised as having a roll top bath which sounded lovely but on arrival there was no bath, roll top or otherwise (also no door to separate bathroom). Also some confusion as to cost of room as we had got a price of £65 online but on settling the bill was asked for £85 - not sure how this happened. Food interesting - portions way too big and most dishes seemed to consist of the same ingredients which was rather odd.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: We felt very welcome, the staff were great, they could not do enough for us, the room was very nice and homely
Cons: None!!
3,6 Mediocre
Pros: The only good thing about the derby arms the rooms had been recently refurbished so they were clean and modern the food was quite good and plentyfull
Cons: The bar and dinning room were seriously in need of refurbishment their was an old musty smell in parts of the hotel

Located in the Lake District, there are plenty of scenic walking and cycling routes in the surrounding area.
7,5 Good
Pros: Beautiful location; delightfully quirky old inn; comfortable room. Quite good kitchen; very good beer.
Cons: A not-always-successful bodge to keep the shower-head from sliding down; TV remote missing (proprietor apologised, saying it had been stolen the previous weekend). Unfortunately, the dominant memory of our stay was the first morning, when we came down to breakfast at 9, as agreed, to find the whole restaurant and bar area locked, no-one else on the premises and our only way out via a grotty emergency exit. It transpired that there was a resident member of staff, and the proprietor had phoned him to wake him, but that he had then fallen asleep again. They made it up to us with a free dinner and drinks that night; but the memory is hard to shift.
7,0 Good
Pros: Staff very friendly. Food was very good
Cons: Mattress was due for renewal
5,5 Okay
Pros: Staff were lovely. Standard pub fair (don't know where some of the photos are from it's not posh food), steak pie was good.
Cons: The room needed updating and there had obviously been a leak at some point as there was a large brown stain on the ceiling. However the most in need of redoing was the bed. Very creaky! Could feel every spring. Well past it's time leading to a very uncomfortable night. Was glad we were only staying 1 night. Wouldn't go back mainly for this reason.
7,5 Good
Pros: Very clean, all staff pleasant and helpful
Cons: Bed sagged in the middle. Vegetarian breakfast too great for me. Noisy toilet cistern
4,5 Okay
Pros: The meal was okay and the staff were helpful and friendly.
Cons: The Breakfast did not start until 8.30! We had to be away before that! The room was small with not enough space for a cupboard or wardrobe and no chair or table, and not very clean.
9,3 Excellent
Pros: Nice and quiet location and a good base for travelling around the central lakes, staff great, had a really relaxing time.
8,0 Excellent
