Pros: The location and setting of the hotel are lovely: you are right in the medieval city, steps from the beautiful Basilica of Saint-Nazaire. The friendly and attentive staff contributed to an overall feeling of luxury. The grounds are beautiful and the views sublime. We stayed as a couple, and found the hotel, restaurant, and city really quite romantic.

Pros: The whole castle is recreated with medieval ornaments. The staff drove us from the car park to the hotel due to the steep road. Our superior bedroom was connected directly to a garden. The service was excellent and retailer. I recommend the free guided visit with the knight around la Cité.

Pros: A beautiful hotel set within the city walls. What an experience. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a suite so our room was massive with a view over the square. Charlotte’s service at the front desk was fantastic. Nothing was too difficult and she made us feel like royalty. The bar outside is rock star with awesome views and a special ambience.

Pros: The location is excellent.
Cons: The restaurant is a Michelin star restaurant. In our opinion it doesn't deserve this award. The room is the same room used for breakfast and lunch. Also the food was very average and certainly not, in our opinion, Michelin star standard. When you arrive there is a rail with hangers on it that would be used at a school hall event to hang coats, that sets the tone. The hotel was lovely and would have exceeded expectations if advertised as a four star with a good restaurant but it disappointed for the reasons stated above.

We stayed as a couple, and found the hotel, restaurant, and city really quite romantic.
Cons: The rooms are a bit dated: carpets and marble are stained in places, and paint is cracking. The WiFi was also a bit weaker than I would have expected, and could not quite support seamless video streaming. But some of these little issues are to be expected in a hotel as old as this one.

Car has to be at least 200+ yards from the hotel--no private auto access--they use a small van to take you to the hotel.
The room we were in was quite small--the closet door backed up to another needed door--constant banging.
Chair for the desk had arms--could not go under the desk--another small room issue
Partial glass separator for shower in the bath does a lousy job of keeping water in the tub
Needs more electrical outlets--especially around the desk area

Cons: The staff knew very little English and not all of them knew how to communicate. The tables in breakfast were very close to each other and the space was not comfortable to move freely. You had to wait a lot in order for the eggs to get boiled as they are offered raw and the space for the boiling was only 4 eggs (minimum 10 minutes in line for the eggs)

Pros: Beautiful historic 5 star hotel in a class above the rest. Breakfast was very good with large continental selection and the lady that runs this area is lovely. Suite was grand, nice little personal touches like custom made chocolate on bed, lovely card, postcard. Bathrobes and slippers. Grand library, waiting room, drawing room and bar areas. The knight guide offered by the hotel was fantastic and enjoyable. They helped express post my passport that I left behind. We had just finished holidaying in London and Paris and this was our favourite part of our holiday. Will definitely be back.

The hotel is a charming Country house style with beautiful garden. Breakfast is fresh and tasty. My bedroom was amazing! Big and super comfortable. I’d love to stay again and definitely recommend it.

Understand the reason, but the room got extremely hot with a family of four sleeping and no windows, only a door which could be opened (safety issue if opened overnight). Nice room, just too hot to sleep comfortably.

Pros: This is a very inexpensive option with free parking and just a short walk from the city walls. You get what you pay for, so although it’s not luxurious, it is comfortable, clean and has better facilities than expected. From the outside it looks a little like a uni halls of residence and it’s very basic, but still very good. Friendly and very helpful staff. Room for 6 (we were a party of 4) was clean, spacious and comfortable. Beds very comfortable and bedding clean. It was February but very warm inside. Apartment had lots of facilities including a coffee machine and dishwasher. (Bring your own paper filters for the coffee machine)

Pros: The view of the Citadelle from our room was great. The bed was comfortable and the room warm. The swimming pool is nice and heated and it has a incredible view of the Citadelle, especially after sunset. The location is great, just a few minutes walk across the river to reach the Citadelle. The price paid for that type of hotel was really cheap.

Pros: We were comfortable and within the area we wanted to explore. Restaurants were a five minute walk. It was a nice stay. Checkin and out was smooth. The only time we saw any staff other than front desk, was when we asked for the soap dispenser to be filled. No one had checked. There were checkout procedures which included sweeping and doing the studio apartment’s dishes. We swept but alas, no dustpan. The view out our window was awesome and front desk was super helpful. Loved the setup.

Cons: Kitchen equipment was disappointing. 1 pan, 1 small frying pan. Would not be enough for 2 or more persons staying in this room. Freezing compartment in the fridge had no door anymore to close it from rest of fridge: as result ice cream melted in that compartment. Cleaning liquid not provided, had to be bought. Watercooker provided on request, but no electric sockets in the cooking area, had to put the watercooker on the floor to plug it in a socket.

Pros: I had an accident and had to reschedule my stay for one day later. I called the hotel and staff was very friendly and rescheduled my stay with no problem for free. When we arrived to the place staff was very lovely and checked us in with no problems and gave us some tips about how to get to the castle etc.

Cons: The in-room facilities are separate plastic pre-formed "pods", both the shower cubicle and the toilet cubicle which had no lift-up seat on the WC and the washhand basin was in one corner of the room itself. There was only one towel per person - a bath towel but no hand towels. The toilet paper was of the very thin "eco" type which required more sheets to be used due to their absorbancy ☹ The breakfast was adequate but the breakfast area was like a fast-food restaurant.
