Best Antigua hotels near La Merced Church
Since its genesis, Casa Santo Domingo was the bastion of one of the grandest convents of America: the one that sheltered the followers of the order of Santo Domingo de Guzmn. It is an important part of the beautiful colonial reliquary that preserves in its bowels the treasures from the baroque period of ancestral America. Each corner of this house, each stone, each image and each piece that composes this Hotel Museum becomes a lost page in time, which one by one is joined forming a beautiful chapter of the grand book of our history. This innovative Hotel-Museum offers 130 rooms each with unique and special characteristics. The decoration includes works of art from renowned Guatemalan fine art artists and handmade textiles with traditional-contemporary designs. Offering the finest, we provide TV LCD with cable, telephone with voicemail, minibar, safety deposit box, iron and ironing board, hair dryer, magnification lighted vanity mirror, hypo-allergenic pillows (on request), bathrobes, twice-daily housekeeping service, chimney, high velocity internet, terrace, balcony, tub, jacuzzi or sauna (depending on selected room type). In our main restaurant "Refectorio del Prior" we prepare recipes under the concept of fusion cuisine, mixing ingredients from different countries and regions. We serve breakfast, lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch.

Pros: The art collection , the museums, nice garden views, the breakfast, the bar (very delicious cocktails) and the pool.
Cons: The bedroom had nothing special, I expected a little bit more details. They charge extra everything, even the overpriced water bottles. Also there was a wedding party really loud going on at the hotel. We couldn’t spleep for after 12:00 am, we chose that hotel for it’s excellent reputation, but honestly I’ve experienced much much better lodging for the same price rate. I wouldn’t recomen it for staying the night, but I definitely would recomen it for a day pass or a drink at the bar.

Pros: Hotel seems beautiful on the website.
Cons: Rude checkin staff, rude restaurant staff, dirty pool, dirty bathroom, high creditcard block as jf they don’t trust you, water in the room for 5 USD. The things above would not be much of a problem, but the staff just made it an unpleasant and unwelcoming stay. They have some sort of arrogance over themselves since they are a five star hotel, but the level of service was the worst we have ever encountered at a hotel ever. Do not spend your money here, trust us.

Pros: Bed super comfortable and good facilities
Cons: My room didn’t have shampoo, conditioner only body lotion, we asked for one queen bed and they give me a double bedroom with no chance to change I hope they could give me at least a late check out but they didn’t...

Pros: Heated pool, great facilities, very helpful staff
Cons: They keep macaws in small cages, and I'm not sure how healthy these macaws are. Macaws live up to 70-90 years, and have to suffer in captivity for the amusement of tourists. Please move them to a rehabilitation center such as ARCAS, and please donate to that center to make their life better.

Pros: Location is great, neither close or far away from the city center, great attention from personnel. Newly remodeled rooms are a plus.
Cons: Even they have shuttle and free valet parking. The parking is very far away and limited at the front of the hotel (for check in)

The beds were comfortable and the hotel was not too loud even when there was a wedding going on. The room had a dog bed and bowls.
Cons: We stayed in a handicapped room. We noticed that the bathroom was not very handicapped accessible. There is no emergency phone in bathroom, the shower head clipped in very high up on the wall, and the sink is too high for someone in a chair to comfortably reach. Besides these things we thought the room was great.

Cons: Attention to detail by staff was poor and not what I'd expect from a top hotel. I booked a massage for my wife, a day before. Pros: Casa Encantada is a true gem - and I highly recommend it when visiting Antigua. Immediately upon entering the secured courtyard, you are transported to another place and a genteel era. The staff were AMAZING (Melvin at the front desk was EVERYTHING a concierge should be and more!!) My daughter and I had breakfast on the rooftop terrace each morning (wonderful views of the volcano and the mountainside) for about $15 USD for both of us, including coffee. Try the "Chapin" breakfast - it's "typical Guatemalan" and delicious!

La Casa de Los Leones. Today Hotel Posada de Don Rodrigo conserves its ambiance that characterizes a colonial and antique home in Guatemala. Restored between 1968 and 1971 by Don Carlos Dorin and Isabel de Dorin, La Casa de Los Leones was integrated with two additional colonial homes to become what we see today as Hotel Posada de Don Rodrigo. Considered one of the most beautiful colonial homes in Antigua, its colonial design and ambiance, will take you back in time. Authentic printings, baroque carvings, ashed fireplaces, silent ceilings and furniture carved by genuine craftsmen of Antigua, are just some of the surprises which await you at Hotel Posada de Don Rodrigo.

Pros: The location is great!! Just a little over a block to the main plaza. My room #116 was far enough from the street to be quiet after about 6:00, but it was next to the hotel restaurant so it was a little noisy in the morning with the breakfast crowd. Pros: Loved the historical authenticity of the place, the use of all natural materials and the low tech craftsmanship that has gone into the rooms. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Gardens glorious.
Cons:

Pros: Staff couldn't do enough, food was excellent, super stay.
Cons:
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The location is great!! Just a little over a block to the main plaza. My room #116 was far enough from the street to be quiet after about 6:00, but it was next to the hotel restaurant so it was a little noisy in the morning with the breakfast crowd. Large, comfortable room with a private courtyard. Great staff!! Very helpful.
Cons: WiFi not real fast, but strong enough. Mattress was FIRM. At times, my Spanish was not good enough and their English not good enough,...not really their fault. Air was pretty smoky for my entire stay, everyone had a little cough.

Pros: Great location and atmosphere
Cons: Nothing that comes to mind
10,0 Excellent
Pros: i like the place, the gardens, all the attention given, and the view of my room, we are close of any other areas and restaurants. the hotel is open 24hrs. so we can return late and night without problem
Cons: no comments
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The good service and amability in general of the staff
Cons:

Pros: Wonderful atmosphere. We were there for Guatemala’s Independence Day, & the parade went right past our window! It was so memorable. Quite a nice slice of Guatemala’s “front window” on Antigua!
Cons:
With a stay at El Convento Boutique Hotel in Antigua Guatemala, you'll be within a 5-minute walk of La Merced Church and Las Capuchinas Convent. Featured amenities include express check-in, express check-out, and complimentary newspapers in the lobby. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available on request), and free self parking is available onsite.

Pros: Architecture, service, quality of the breakfast, location
Cons: TV quality could be better, very poor signal Only 2 sun beds by the pool, not really a must Although you have many waiters in the morning, seems like they're all overwhelmed when too many tables to serve. A bit of coaching could help them being more efficient

Pros: It was very good, but it took them 45 minutes to serve it! Too long!
Cons: Hotel was not as clean as I expected. I think they’re lacking personnel.

Pros: location, nice common areas
Cons: Room had no windows, wood flooring made a lot of noise when stepping on it

Pros: Breakfast was one of the best I’ve had.
Cons: The pictures show that they have a terrace; which was one of the main reasons to choose this hotel. But the terrace is closed ( not sure if permanently) and doesn’t mention anywhere here. Everything else was amazing.

Pros: Great stay! Very good value for money! Simple breakfast and it would be nice to have a kettle for tea/coffee in the room, but thats just a small thing. I was staying in the suite and that has a little terrace which is great to get some morning sun with view of the volcano! The bed was massive and comfy, the television has Netflix and the wifi was decent. I liked the decoration and the design of the room too! It was beautiful! And the location is perfect! Go for coffee around the corner at Fernando's! Best coffee in Antigua:)

Pros:
Cons: We were very disappointed about this hotel. We came for two nights and one day after a roadtrip in Guatemala to rest and have some sleep. We thought, because of the standing of this hotel, we will not have any problems and be able to enjoy our stay. Unfortunately, without telling us anything, the hotel accepted our reservation in the same time than a wedding the day we were here. They did not informed us at all about this otherwise we will have changed the reservation. All day, all the hotel was reasoning with the loud music of the wedding so it was impossible to rest, sleep, read a book... We paid 150$ the night to have a premium service that we did not have. We asked for a gesture from the hotel. They accepted, against their will, to give us back 7$... It is unacceptable from our point of view.
7,5 Good
Pros: The food was excellent, the bed incredible, and the facilities beautiful! Seriously, very good food.
Cons: Our only problem was that they could not initially find our registration, however, this was remedied with a room upgrade!

Cons: The breakfast is bad quality, there is not orange juice or milk for the cofee. It is neccesary to disturb the receptionist to open the main door. In front of our room there was a living room where another guest sit and talk, that generated so much noise when you are trying to sleep.
