Hotel Museo Spa Casa Santo Domingo - Antigua - Bedroom
1
9,3 Excellent (1 469 reviews)
R3 213+
Overview Reviews
Since its genesis, Casa Santo Domingo was the bastion of one of the grandest convents of America: the one that sheltered the followers of the order of Santo Domingo de Guzmn. It is an important part of the beautiful colonial reliquary that preserves in its bowels the treasures from the baroque period of ancestral America. Each corner of this house, each stone, each image and each piece that composes this Hotel Museum becomes a lost page in time, which one by one is joined forming a beautiful chapter of the grand book of our history. This innovative Hotel-Museum offers 130 rooms each with unique and special characteristics. The decoration includes works of art from renowned Guatemalan fine art artists and handmade textiles with traditional-contemporary designs. Offering the finest, we provide TV LCD with cable, telephone with voicemail, minibar, safety deposit box, iron and ironing board, hair dryer, magnification lighted vanity mirror, hypo-allergenic pillows (on request), bathrobes, twice-daily housekeeping service, chimney, high velocity internet, terrace, balcony, tub, jacuzzi or sauna (depending on selected room type). In our main restaurant "Refectorio del Prior" we prepare recipes under the concept of fusion cuisine, mixing ingredients from different countries and regions. We serve breakfast, lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch.
6,5 Good
Pros: Nice rooms. Pretty grounds.
Cons: Eerie music playing. Have to pay for wifi
10,0 Excellent
Pros: It is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. The pool was heated and very large. The food was great and the staff was lovely.
5,8 Okay
Pros: Location was good. The ruins and museums were lovely.
Cons: I stayed at 4 hotels in Guatemala and this is the only one that did not provide purified water for use. To make matters worse they mislead by putting 2 bottles in the bathroom with small type saying it can be purchased with funds going to charity. Service was very spotty. For the room rates, the service was sub-par. - We requested soft feather pillows that in-room brochure were available. They brought poly pillows and then brought more hard feather pillows so we never got what was advertised. - We requested to have our luggage brought to storage so we could get away quickly after breakfast. They did not do it. - Beds were really hard. They said they would put cushioning on bed but they never did. - They have a lot of maintenance staff and they were making noise in the morning and talking loudly often.
10,0 Excellent

10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff, the facilities, the location, all the details in the room
Cons: Can't think of anything
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Loads ... great location and facility
Cons: We had paid in advance but at check out the lady was asking for us to pay again until we let her know
8,2 Excellent
Pros: The location, the ambience, the rooms and the food were all great. We were all comfortable and enjoyed the stay, the only complaint (if a true complaint at all) is the service speed. We would sometimes order drinks and would not get it till 15 - 20 minutes afterwards. After that, we would rarely see the waiter.
Cons: Service speed needs a boost. While not horrible to ruin our experience, it could've made it so much better and pleasant.
8,5 Excellent
Pros: Bed super comfortable and good facilities
Cons: My room didn’t have shampoo, conditioner only body lotion, we asked for one queen bed and they give me a double bedroom with no chance to change I hope they could give me at least a late check out but they didn’t...
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast is superb!!! This is one of my reasons to choose this Hotel!! All the personal are very, very kind!
Cons: Everything was OK !
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Location is great, neither close or far away from the city center, great attention from personnel. Newly remodeled rooms are a plus.
Cons: Even they have shuttle and free valet parking. The parking is very far away and limited at the front of the hotel (for check in)
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful gardens, an amazing pool, comfortable rooms! The Porta is more like a resort than a hotel!
Cons: We were disappointed to find that our room didn't have air conditioning while other rooms did. Other than that, we loved everything!
8,8 Excellent
Pros: I stayed here with my family and a small 10 pound dog. We enjoyed being able to eat our meals out by the pool even with the dog. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The beds were comfortable and the hotel was not too loud even when there was a wedding going on. The room had a dog bed and bowls.
Cons: We stayed in a handicapped room. We noticed that the bathroom was not very handicapped accessible. There is no emergency phone in bathroom, the shower head clipped in very high up on the wall, and the sink is too high for someone in a chair to comfortably reach. Besides these things we thought the room was great.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Location in beautiful Antigua was perfect. The service was superb.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Central location walk-able to everything. It really was a 4 star hotel with every amenity one could want. The staff was outstanding. The grounds were beautiful and well kept. The food was excellent and reasonable. Lovely surrounding for breakfast with a delicious and varied breakfast buffet.

9,6 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very polite always trying to help and support the guests. The property was beautiful, the internal patios, the lush vegetation, the upper terrace, the traditional colonial decoration and fountain made it very special. Breakfast was very good. The afternoon coffee, tea, juices, and chocolate cake were a nice touch. This hotel is centrally located, so it is close to everything.
Cons: Two suggestions: Have an extra plastic liner for the bathroom curtain to avoid water spills. There was some dust under the beds it can really bother an allergic person.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: So charming and so close to Parque Central, with excellent staff and a nice breakfast and fresh aguas naturales and coffee available in the afternoon.
Cons: All was lovely except - you truly can hear everything from nearby rooms so don’t have an expectation of privacy of anything above a whisper. Bring ear plugs if you don’t want to listen to your neighbor’s tv selections.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hotel, nicely decorated. Great location
Cons: Rooms are slightly small and breakfast is average
10,0 Excellent
Pros: It’s location is super, middle of town. The room let you feel very spoiled. The skylight in the bathroom is special. All the open areas are designed and placed with amazing furniture and stuff. Breakfast is excellent.
Cons: The proximity of the rooms to the inner court where people having breakfast or sitting at night make a lot of noise.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: The location is superb, the staff were really nice, the breakfast was great but the best thing was the beauty of this place and the rooftop morning view !
Cons: I actually been in 2 different rooms the big room was really nice but the small one was too small, I got a corner room with no space to open a suitcase.
9,4 Excellent
Pros: I like the vintage style and the good service offered.
Cons: It was too hot inside the room, so, it would be perfect if the rooms had an A/C or a fan.

Cons: NA
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful garden, breakfast included was very good. Room design and comfort level was very good. Quiet neighborhood! Didn’t use the tv at all but it was an old box tv. They had board games for us and brought candles and wine glasses when we bought one of the bottles of wine they sell at the desk.
Cons: I thought the breakfast was included but ended up paying a bit extra at checkout. Still worth it but not as outstanding of a value for price. Not in the hustle and bustle of downtown if that’s important to you.

Cons: Breakfast was included which was great but there wasn't a huge selection. It was fine though. There wasn't any AC (just a fan) so it was a bit stuffy a couple nights.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Casa Encantada is a true gem - and I highly recommend it when visiting Antigua. Immediately upon entering the secured courtyard, you are transported to another place and a genteel era. The staff were AMAZING (Melvin at the front desk was EVERYTHING a concierge should be and more!!) My daughter and I had breakfast on the rooftop terrace each morning (wonderful views of the volcano and the mountainside) for about $15 USD for both of us, including coffee. Try the "Chapin" breakfast - it's "typical Guatemalan" and delicious!
Cons: The rooms in the back of the hotel are MUCH quieter than in the front. We stayed in room #10 on the second floor.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. They left fresh bottles of water in the room every day. There was also excellent toiletries available in the bathroom: shaving cream, razors, toothbrushes etc. The breakfast is included and it was delicious - served in the rooftop restaurant which is beautiful - Great service by Augustina. The hotel is small and quaint but we could use the Porta Hotel pool just down the road, we didn’t realise this when booking - it is also a lovely hotel with nice food and staff. To sum up, Casa Encantada is a beautiful hotel, well decorated in a great location - 5 minute walk from Parque Central. Also - Antigua is an unbelievable place, could stay forever.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Very charming. Small and personal. Helpful staff. Comfortable 4 poster bed with lovely linens, nice bathroom toiletries. Fridge in room. Wonderful breakfast on the roof. Added bonus is being able to use the pool/grounds and gym at the hotel across the street.

Pros: The entire hotel feels so calm and peaceful. All staff were polite and knowledgeable of the location. The only mix up was on my end. I did not realize that the hotel is located inside a very very nice gated community and that you need a code to enter which resulted in me having to make calls and look like I had no idea what was going on. They give you the code in a verification email. El centro is within walking distance of the hotel. the staff will arrange a taxi at your request. I also took a Tuk Tuk one evening.

6,7 Good
Pros: Staff really helpful. Good breakfast. Clean and confortable room.
Cons: Price is too high compared to the offered services. The hotel is located in a private neighbourhood that is quite isolated from the very city center. We thought it was a real ancient colonial palace and we felt it was a kind a modern house with a sense of antiquity due to the furnitures and the pictures. The religious pictures wherever are not really inspiring.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The rooms were very comfortable and the establishment charming. The staff were always smiling and seeking to serve.
Cons: All was quite good but the breakfast was mediocre. With a bit of training and dedication it could be wonderful!

La Casa de Los Leones. Today Hotel Posada de Don Rodrigo conserves its ambiance that characterizes a colonial and antique home in Guatemala. Restored between 1968 and 1971 by Don Carlos Dorin and Isabel de Dorin, La Casa de Los Leones was integrated with two additional colonial homes to become what we see today as Hotel Posada de Don Rodrigo. Considered one of the most beautiful colonial homes in Antigua, its colonial design and ambiance, will take you back in time. Authentic printings, baroque carvings, ashed fireplaces, silent ceilings and furniture carved by genuine craftsmen of Antigua, are just some of the surprises which await you at Hotel Posada de Don Rodrigo.

Pros: Loved the historical authenticity of the place, the use of all natural materials and the low tech craftsmanship that has gone into the rooms. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Gardens glorious.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Staff couldn't do enough, food was excellent, super stay.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: The location is great!! Just a little over a block to the main plaza. My room #116 was far enough from the street to be quiet after about 6:00, but it was next to the hotel restaurant so it was a little noisy in the morning with the breakfast crowd. Large, comfortable room with a private courtyard. Great staff!! Very helpful.
Cons: WiFi not real fast, but strong enough. Mattress was FIRM. At times, my Spanish was not good enough and their English not good enough,...not really their fault. Air was pretty smoky for my entire stay, everyone had a little cough.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Great location and atmosphere
Cons: Nothing that comes to mind
10,0 Excellent
Pros: i like the place, the gardens, all the attention given, and the view of my room, we are close of any other areas and restaurants. the hotel is open 24hrs. so we can return late and night without problem
Cons: no comments

Pros: Wonderful atmosphere. We were there for Guatemala’s Independence Day, & the parade went right past our window! It was so memorable. Quite a nice slice of Guatemala’s “front window” on Antigua!

Pros: We had stayed here in the past, perhaps 7 years previously. It has not changed. Large comfortable rooms and most importantly incredible, friendly and helpful staff who go beyond what is expected. Breakfast was tipico - and delicious: eggs to order.
Cons: The only "negative" would be the in-line parking, which in reality was not a bother. Nothing to do to change that....
9,6 Excellent
Pros: In the old City Center but very quiet and secluded. Room 9 is beautiful, quiet and very comfortable. The courtyard is full with flowers and very nicely decorated. Staff is very friendly and helpful. For us the perfect place to stay in Antigua and we will certainly come back.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Truly beautiful and dreamlike. The staff is so incredibly warm and welcoming; we arrived to the hotel at 7:30 exhausted after a long flight and they very generously allowed us to check in early so we could sleep in the morning. Breakfast every morning was tasty and substantial, and again the staff was so pleasant and nice.
Cons: Some minor concerns about street sound were hardly noticeable or even significant.
9,2 Excellent
Pros: Super friendly and helpful staff
Cons: Staffing level was minimal - have to ring the doorbell to get in
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The staff and service were impeccable. The gardens were beautiful and a lovely spot just 'to be'. The room was lovely and spotless. The bed was huge and so comfortable. The shower was amazing with fabulous pressure.
Cons: Only a couple of minor things. Poor Wi-Fi reception in room 9 Ficus and no hot water for the bath.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is a gem in Antigua. Rooms are big and comfortable. And the garden is so beautiful and romantic. If you decide to stay here just try to get a room that is not facing the street , otherwise it’s a little paradise in Antigua
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful inside gardens / rooms, great value and location close to the main square But the highlight was Andrea, the receptionist, who couldn’t have been more charming and helpful
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The grounds and rooms
Cons: Needs air or fan

Cons: Breakfast could start a little earlier. Most tours depart at 8am, so it would be nice that breakfast starts around 7
7,1 Good
Pros: Central location, clean hotel, breakfast included, and good price.
Cons: Breakfast was okay with not many drink options. The bathroom had dead bugs (ants) on the sink and floor. When coming in at night we had to knock for a while until someone came out to open. The parking was 6 blocks away.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: The service and breakfasts were well done. The room was always kept extremely clean.
Cons: Thin walls and doors. Not the best place for privacy.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable, homely! Such a lovely old building so close to the centre of the city. We arrived Late at night & there was a bar a few doors down. A great place to stay. Lovely old beams, a nice breakfast.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: It’s a very nice hotel, right in the centre of Antigua, very clean and comfortable. Staff very friendly and welcoming, spoke good English.
Cons: Breakfast very poor.
9,0 Excellent
Pros: Great stay! Very good value for money! Simple breakfast and it would be nice to have a kettle for tea/coffee in the room, but thats just a small thing. I was staying in the suite and that has a little terrace which is great to get some morning sun with view of the volcano! The bed was massive and comfy, the television has Netflix and the wifi was decent. I liked the decoration and the design of the room too! It was beautiful! And the location is perfect! Go for coffee around the corner at Fernando's! Best coffee in Antigua:)
Cons: Kettle for coffee/tea in the room would be nice but not having it, did not influence my stay in any way!
5,8 Okay
Pros: the place itself was nice and the staff too.
Cons: breakfast is the same every day, did not like that. we had a room that was next to a property that had dogs barking all night, we could not sleep, we asked to be switiched to another room and they comply.

7,1 Good
Pros: The patio is really beautiful. The location is good.
Cons: The rooms could have been bigger and brighter. The bathroom is very small too.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Loved the soaking tub, all the plants and flowers, location
Cons: It was a bit too dark in the room even with all the lights on
5,8 Okay
Pros: The location of the hotel is very good, three blocks away from the main square and the hotel staff is very nice and helpfull.
Cons: When we read the reviews the other guests were commenting that it is a quiet little hotel nice to stay that is why we have chosen it...that it is close to the main square and is quite. The location itself is quit, the problem is that the walls between the rooms are as if made from paper so we literally have been part of neighbouring rooms. We have heard every single world, conversation as if seated with them. So even though that the hotel is nice and with friendly staff I would not come back as we did not sleep well. Better say we did not sleep nearly at all.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Atmospheric, good sized rooms, excellent staff.
Cons: I payed waaaaaaaaaay more via booking.com than I would of...….. HAD I just rocked up in person. Yeah, don't book online! I wish I headed warnings by other reviewers!
10,0 Excellent
Pros: beautiful place, friendly staff, a lot of places to visit nearby, get special discounts and coupons at certain restaurants and stores and places.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: The service and the breakfast on the roofs
Cons: Great place, professional staff, position amazing. Really we couldn't ask for better. Hugely raccomanded.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Very good location to all key locations (e.i., markets, town gate, shopping and restaurants) Super Nice and professional staff.
Cons: None ( but would recommend to host to make access to roof longer than 10 pm for best viewing of stars/ town view at night)
6,7 Good
Pros: Great people working there, very friendly
Cons: Accommodation extremely basic, plumbing not good, shower more of a trickle, breakfast restrictive. First toilet broken!!
8,3 Excellent
Pros: The location is the best of the this hotel, it close to any on Antigua city. The hotel is small but enough, the room is big.
Cons: The breakfast is bad quality, there is not orange juice or milk for the cofee. It is neccesary to disturb the receptionist to open the main door. In front of our room there was a living room where another guest sit and talk, that generated so much noise when you are trying to sleep.
