Overview Reviews
Experience the magnificence of historic Salamanca at Hospes Palacio de San Esteban in the heart of the Old City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The hotel is housed in an immaculately restored convent built by Dominican Friars in the 16th century when the city was at the peak of its grandeur. Within its thick stone walls, sumptuous amenities offer a romantic oasis of tranquility mere steps from Salamanca’s most remarkable monuments. At Hospes Palacio de San Esteban, history infuses every nook. In the restaurant, El Monje, located in the convent’s original kitchen, you can dine on fresh local delicacies, like chorizo sausage made from acorn-fed ham, Then relax with a steam in the Turkish bath or sip cocktails on the terrace overlooking the Old City’s splendid cathedrals and the Dominican Garden. Fetching details accent the hotel’s 51 externally facing rooms, from the exposed dark-wood ceiling beams to lights emphasizing the golden warmth of the stone quarried from nearby Villamayor.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: Liked everything about this Hotel! The staff were friendly and very helpful from the moment we arrived.
Cons: A little disappointing that the restaurant was fully booked for lunch and Dinner on the day we arrived.
10,0 Excellent
Pros: A true 5* experience, and half the price of a lesser 4* in central Madrid. Great value, as everything was so good, especially the welcome by the staff. Dining room in basement is sheer class.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hotel in a terrific location. Just a stone’s throw from the Cathedral and other major sites. A short walk to Plaza Mayor etc. Very professional staff, on site parking and a beautiful restaurant, El Monje.
Cons: The Bar doesn’t open until the same time as the restaurant! We came back after a long day walking the sights and looking forward to a relaxing drink for an hour or so before preparing for dinner. Sadly this was not possible which when compared with other similar quality hotels we have stayed with seems quite bizarre. This is especially the case as there is no quality bar close by the Hotel.

Cons: Everything was broken
10,0 Excellent
Pros: The location of this hotel is fantastic - it's less than 5 minutes' walk up to the Plaza Mayor and the other sights of the old part of the city. The hotel is a gorgeous old building that has been sympathetically restored and is extremely comfortable. For us driving, a great bonus was having a pull-in bay right outside the hotel and valet parking. Our room was very comfortable and well appointed with a super-king bed and breakfast was a choice of Spanish pastries/cakes, cold hams/cheeses, fruit and cereals as well as cooked to order hot menu choices - we both had a delicious scrambled egg and morcillo (spicy black pudding) dish. What makes the hotel however is the service. The staff are superb - they are friendly, knowledgeable, super-efficient but also unobtrusive
Cons: There honestly weren't any down points in our one night stay - the only disappointment was that we overslept and so missed our booked in spa appointment but that's our own fault! The hotel offered to rebook right away but unfortunately we had to leave to catch a ferry at Bilbao.

10,0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was beyond what we expected- such a great deal for an incredible experience!
7,9 Good
Pros: This was our second visit and we introduced friends to this beautiful castle. The setting is fab and the food was good at breakfast and in the restaurant was excellent. Staff were very welcoming and efficient although ‘unable’ to change rooms for us. would visit again as long as reassurance was given that issues stated below were addressed in advance.
Cons: We were very disappointed with our rooms on this visit ( unlike last time when the room was beautiful) our rooms were subterranean next to the swimming pool, and therefore dark, a bit claustrophobic and much smaller than previously for very similar costs. Felt very much that we were given these rooms as we were only staying for one night. The pool was very nice but so many flies and a decaying smell coming from the undergrowth meant that we didn’t stay there for long.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: We have stayed here before. Always excellent, which is why we return
Cons: Nothing
7,0 Good
Pros: The history / architecture of the place was the attraction. Good bathroom. Dinner was also good.
Cons: Our car SATNAV found it impossible to locate. Written instructions with the confirmation would have been useful. The air conditioning in our room was ineffective. Black stone stairs leading to the bathroom on a separate level are not ideal at night, unless you leave lights on.

Pros: I was greeted bye Giuseppe. He was very kind and helpful; he showed me around the hostel and circled places of interest on my map. The rooms and beds were clean and comfortable for a night's rest. I stayed in a room with 3 other female travelers. The shared bathroom was on the small side but very clean. Overall, the room and building felt secure. The location is extremely close to city center. Walking distance to everything.
Cons: The window in the room did open towards the road which was noisy even at night, but nothing ear plugs can't fix, or for your roommate who snores. The other females had the windows closed for the night which did make for a warm night's sleep. For the price and last minute booking, I'm pleased. I know there are other rooms that have windows that are not facing the street.

Pros: Ibis hotels market themselves as no-frills accommodations offering comfort and efficiency for a reasonable price, and this one fits the bill. The location is good: across from an attractive park where locals unwind in the evening and within easy walking distance of the historic center of the city. Breakfast facilities can be crowded but were otherwise quite satisfactory. They have a limited number of parking places in the basement, on a first-come, first-get basis.

Pros: Superb decor and staff. Great position to explore
Cons: Pool size but thats being picky
7,5 Good
Pros: Nice location and easy to park the car
Cons: For being a 5 stars hotel it was quite outdated, some of the things in our room were broken, like the top of the toilet, a bulb lamp in the room and the beds were a bit uncomfortable. These are things you could expect from a 3 stars hotel but not for 5. The staff was very helpful and friendly but they should definitely downgrade the stars or fix the hotel a bit.

Pros: Comfortable stay and good breakfast
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, huge suite terrific value
Cons: No tea/ coffee facilities in room. People may be put off by lavish over the top classic furnishings.
8,8 Excellent
Pros: friendly staff clean with spacious rooms and good facilities Nice decor in classic style
6,0 Good
Pros: The location was ideal . The recommendations given by the person at reception was excellent .
9,0 Excellent
Pros: This is a very comfortable and luxurious hotel in a good location for exploring Salamanca. It is a really restful place to sleep, and the valet parking meant that we could forget our car for 4 days, which was a real treat. The staff are very efficient, and everything works well (perhaps a little extra charm on the front desk would be nice). We enjoyed the stay, and were sad to leave town.
Cons: Although the view from the breakfast room is great - you can look out over the city, the breakfast itself lets the hotel down. We opted for a breakfastless deal, then decided to try it on day 2. You can get a better breakfast a bar almost anywhere in Salamanca for half the price, so we breakfasted in a bar the other days. The coffee machines need to be thrown in a skip, as one was not working, and the other produced a warm beverage tasting slightly of chocolate, but not at all of coffee. The one plus about the breakfast was the very charming staff, who saw our horror at how disgusting the coffee was, and made us a better one somewhere out back. We were rather disappointed in all the breakfast products, they really didn't seem to be of a high quality, which you'd put up with in a 2- star, but is not acceptable in a hotel like this. Can I suggest the manager actually drinks a cup of their disgusting coffee? Mind you, he'd be a braver man than me- I couldn't finish mine.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: The beauty of the building, the proximity to the old town and our student daughter living in Salamanca. Exquisite furnishings in room, bath, hotel.
Cons: The electronic keycards provided for entering the room stopped functioning after about 36 hours. We got new ones 1 or 2 times each during our 4 night stay. No big problem, but perhaps fixable?
8,0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was beautiful and the room was large and clean. The king-size bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was clean, large and very nice - a lot of marble and glass and double sinks. The location was perfect - walking distance to everything (Plaza Mayor and all the sights) yet away from the hustle bustle. Was also walking distance to the train station. Parking at the hotel was very convenient. Lastly, there was a free computer available for guests in the lobby.
Cons: My brother-in-law was given a hard time about ordering just a coffee when he got up in the morning. He did not want to spend for the buffet breakfast since we were going out later.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The hotel location was terrific. not on top of the noise but right near everything.
7,0 Good
Pros: This hotel is convenient for walking from the Renfe train station (about ten minutes by foot) and for exploring in Salamanca. It is right on the edge of the old town. We really appreciated the complimentary use of the computer for internet access. Very nicely appointed decor.
Cons: There were no English language tv channels!!!!! And this is categorized as a five star hotel!???? We understand that every language cannot be represented in a tv menu, but surely this hotel accomodates many international guests and should realize that English is a major language in the world.
8,0 Excellent
Pros: Concierges were excellent; taking all problems from parking/stopping/dealing with luggage in very busy area for traffic. This is very important when, like us, we are driving in an unfamiliar and busy city.
Cons: Breakfast area and staff awareness could be improved, but not a major problem
7,2 Good

9,6 Excellent
Pros: Good location, modern rooms and large bathrooms. Check in and check out was efficient.
Cons: Breakfast was a complete free-for-all. Very disorganized. Food was good, not really hot. With that many people eating at once there should be more than one coffeemaker.
9,6 Excellent
Pros: Sparklingly clean; Everything in the room was in very good working condition; Silent.
Cons: Could offer a few more extras; Parking isn't free (12€/day); Not having a (filled) minibar, a bank card was asked for during check in.

Pros: the hotel was slightly on the outskirts. We walked to the centre of town, about 30 minutes or less as we usually like to get the exercise. There was a nearby grocery store. Parking was available. Good experience here.
Cons: No, a lovely room in a very agreeable hotel.
6,0 Good
Pros: It does what it says on the tin. Great for a North/South stopover - but don't eat the food!- a bit of a schlep into town if you want to see sights -but don't go for the food! - excellent secure parking -but I'd avoid the restaurant if I were you! You get the picture - a really good bargain hotel, well run and appointed - cannot fault - but with a rubbish catering operation!
7,7 Good
Pros: Ideal stopover on journey from Algarve to Santander. Comfortable room and good breakfast, reasonably priced. Short taxi ride to centre of town. Small car park at front of hotel and underground garage available free of charge.
6,3 Good
Pros: We found the facilities in the hotel very good. The water pressure in the showers , in particular, was excellent.
Cons: Unfortunately sound insulation in the hotel is not very good, but that is a feature of the construction and lack of carpeting in the lobbies.
5,3 Okay
Pros: The size of the brandy after dinner
6,7 Good
Pros: I stay regularly at Coco en route to and from Santander. I find the hotel very conveniently located and well priced with a closed car park which is excellent for my needs. When I eat there, I find the set dinner a ceptable for the price.
Cons: I do not have any complaints, except on my last visit in room 127, there was only towels for one person although the room was let to two persons.
6,0 Good
Pros: Staff was very kind. The roofed garage plenty of room and free of charge. You can reach center of Salamanca (wihch is at least 2 km away) by bus (bus stop at 500 mt).
Cons: Hotel recently changed its name from Salamanca Stil to Recoletos Coco, without any notice. This caused some confusion and problem to reach it.

Pros:
Cons: The area around, the noise in the bedroom and the room temperature was too high.

Pros: We asked housekeeping staff if we could swap soft pillows for firm pillows and thankfully it was no problem and the pillows were brilliant.
Cons: At check in we would have appreciated knowing about the bus that goes to the historic centre. We walked!!This information should be given . Also would have appreciated knowing there was a shopping mall close by and the opening hours. We discovered these details ourselves after 2 days .
9,1 Excellent
Pros: have more staff that speak English if they expect more travelers. Not all of us speak Spanish.
